I have come across Amanda Lovelace's work on social media for years, but I thought I might be too old for it. However, since I am in my poetry era, I decided to give it a try. *break your glass slippers* is the first book in the *you are your own fairy tale* series, which is a retelling of Cinderella.

From the start, Lovelace makes her message clear that all girls are beautiful and worthy of love. The collection demonstrates female empowerment through these retellings. The writing's direction is evident, but that is okay. These words are an excellent reminder at any stage of life. As a struggling teenager, I would have treasured this. The obvious is not always apparent to an adolescent mind.

Being a completist, I wanted to finish the series quickly, so I moved on to *shine your icy crown* and *unlock your storybook heart*. While they repeat many of the same messages, I appreciated the different ways of conveying them. I am sure that people need to hear things more than once or even from different perspectives.

Overall, I adore the self-love and empowerment that is emphasized throughout the series. I urge young women to read it and remind themselves of their worth.

***AUDIO BOOK VERSION***
Break Your Glass Slippers is the second of Amanda Lovelaces books I've had the pleasure and opportunity to listen to on audio and again I wasn't disappointed. Each poem is read with poise and tenderness and has the power to ponder over so many things. This book touches mostly on definitions of families, women, body shaming, love, acceptance of oneself and others, loneliness and being alone, feelings, women rivaling other women instead of uplifting each other, and treating yourself with more kindness and love. The emotion reaches through as you listen and touches your heart and soul. I highly recommend these books on audio and to listen to them at a quiet time when alone.

Amanda Lovelace continues to be the voice of a generation. Her poetry is beautiful, sad, thought provoking and deeply personal. It's like she's speaking into your soul and makes you feel like you wrote the poem. It's beautiful writing and I will continue to read and collect her books.

I liked this book more than "Unlock your storybook heart" (I'm sorry I read these in disorder), but I still gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars for the same reasons.
If you want to read these books, I really encourage you to buy the physical copy so that you can appreciate the whole aesthetic of it.
Thanks to the publisher, Amanda, and Netgalley for gifting me the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book has a lot of strong, encouraging poems. It didn't hit my buttons, but I could see myself being taken with it at one point in my life for sure. I really liked the format and the Fairy Godmother interjections.

The author has narrated the book herself and is nicely paced. The speed at the default pace is nice and don't feel I have to speed it up.

Break your glass slippers by Amanda Lovelace is a complete rewrite of the classic Cinderella story. However, in her version, Cinderella discovers the magic of self love and the wonderful life she can create with her own hands without worrying about validation from some prince. Not quite the poetry and prose fans are used to, but inspiring for women regardless of age.

Being a retelling of Cinderella with the theme of self-love, this collection is both innovative and empowering. The diverse range of emotions and situations discussed means there is something for everyone in the collection It was fantastic having the author also be the narrator was fantastic. Realistically, who knows the emotions and the way the story is supposed to be told better than the author. I highly recommend getting this audio copy.

As with Lovelace's other titles, I absolutely loved this. She has quickly become one of my favourite poets. I find myself re-reading her books, which means something as I am not one to re-watch movies or re-read books, ever. Her poems make one stop, pause, and take in a poem for the second time. They are highly empowering and encouraging for all women. This is a great read whether you are in place where you specifically need to hear this message of empowerment, or just a reminder. This book is a reminder that you are the main character of your story, and the prince is just a sidenote in it.

I enjoyed how Lovelace herself narrated the audiobook. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title, and plan to purchase a print copy for myself and my classroom.

When it comes to poetry, I really do dislike reviewing it, it's subjective to what the poet is wanting convey. And I really dislike rating it for the very same reasons.

That being said, Amanda Lovelace is a contemporary poet that I connect with through her words and the themes she conveys through them.

Her themes are always heavy hitting with trauma, sexual assault, abuse, feminism, and mental health, just to name a few. Many of which I've gone through personally, or live.with daily. I understand.

Having listened to her collection via audio, with Lovelace herself narrating, it gave a whole different experience than just reading her words on paper. I can tell she's grown since the last collection I read, She's Some Kind of Magic, and I love that she reimagined Cinderella within her poetic tales. I can certainly see the similarities.

I'm not sure how to feel about this book. The author is speaking about things very profound... That most women have felt...

I felt like I was trying so hard, and yet was missing something... Maybe this sort of poetry is not for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this poetry collection! On audio, all of the stories tried together beautifully, and I loved the narrative structure. I have booted this poet and author in the past and this collection is no exception. I like how it touched on familial relationships as well as struggling with weight. It covered deep topics while remaining accessible.

I really enjoyed this collection I honestly think I could have used these when I was much younger not to say they don't have merit as an adult. This one is about seeing your self worth even if you lost it for a while
