So much truth in so few words! Buy it for your champion, cheerleader sister who was in the trenches with you and held your hand through it. All of Amanda Lovelace's writing is filled with truth and insight. Shine Your Icy Crown is no different!

I love Amanda Lovelace's poetry! This is the second in the series and shows a lot of growth and empowerment. The audiobook was great, I loved the little extra chimes that it had and the narrator was really good.

I have come across Amanda Lovelace's work on social media for years, but I thought I might be too old for it. However, since I am in my poetry era, I decided to give it a try. *break your glass slippers* is the first book in the *you are your own fairy tale* series, which is a retelling of Cinderella.

From the start, Lovelace makes her message clear that all girls are beautiful and worthy of love. The collection demonstrates female empowerment through these retellings. The writing's direction is evident, but that is okay. These words are an excellent reminder at any stage of life. As a struggling teenager, I would have treasured this. The obvious is not always apparent to an adolescent mind.

Being a completist, I wanted to finish the series quickly, so I moved on to *shine your icy crown* and *unlock your storybook heart*. While they repeat many of the same messages, I appreciated the different ways of conveying them. I am sure that people need to hear things more than once or even from different perspectives.

Overall, I adore the self-love and empowerment that is emphasized throughout the series. I urge young women to read it and remind themselves of their worth.

These poems were really good and the narrator was really good too!
The poems were beautifully written and showed the authors emotions and you can relate to how they feel.
I hope to read more by this author in the future!

Amanda Lovelace always WOWS me with her poetry! Was it life changing? No. But did I have a good time and enjoy all the feels I got from it? YES! I sure did!

Every piece of work of Amanda Lovelace's that I read; I am constantly amazed at her work. I will never get tired of reading her work and will also recommend her work to anyone who asks.

I had a hard time connecting with this book. This felt more of a self-help/motivational book than poetry. Potentially a good read for younger readers.

This was my favorite out of the 3 books in the series (I gave it four stars).
It was very relatable to me and I enjoyed a lot of the poems, still, something was missing and I'm convinced that something had to do with the fact that I couldn't appreciate the aesthetics of the book by listening to it.

Wonderful book of very emotional and hard-hitting poems. As usual I felt like some of the poems were written directly about my life. Amanda Lovelace will always be one of my favorite present day poets.

the pace is nicely done at the default speed. The author has narrated it herself, and the poems are nicely done. Good quick audiobook.

If you need a beautiful fairy tale audiobook before bed this is the book for you! It very beautiful narrated and has a good storyline for a poetry book to follow and listen along to.

I was not as impressed with this collection as I was with Amanda's previous work. I felt it was not quite as deep as I have come to expect from her and it did not seem to stick with the ice queen theme.

The Gist
I loved Lovelace’s first poetry series, Women Are Some Kind Of Magic and was excited for Shine Your Icy Crown of her newest series, You Are Your Own Fairy Tale.

In fact, I was so excited that I didn’t even notice I had requested the audio version on NetGalley. I’m not the greatest admirer of audiobooks, so I had to find a printed version of Shine Your Icy Crown for me to fully appreciate the author’s work.

The Details
As with Lovelace’s other works, this collection of poems deals with various types of trauma and it includes a trigger warning.

Although I find the poems still very good, I have some trouble seeing the overall theme/story arc in this instalment.

There are a number of poems addressing a variety of issues. Then there are little passages written by the “bigger sister” that encourage self-care and motivate the reader to take some agency in their live. And then there are the small narrative sections that tie the overall theme together.

It makes sense, but I thought the separate sections do not fit together as nicely to make a complete narrative out of this anthology.

I couldn’t get as emotionally invested in the poems as I usually do when reading Lovelace’s works.

The Verdict
Overall, I still enjoyed this collection of poems. It is a relatively quick read. I would recommend it.

The second book in the You Are Your Own Fairy Tale series, Shine your Icy Crown demonstrates to the reader that it is not necessary to let society dictate who or what you are, you can determine your own story and potential. You don't need a man to make you a queen, you are a queen in your own right.

As with her other titles, I absolutely loved this text and devoured it in one sitting. I enjoyed how she narrated the audiobook herself. I'll be purchasing a physical copy for myself and my classroom. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book!

The second collection in the, You Are Your Own Fairytale, collection and I will again say, I really do dislike reviewing and rating poetry as it is very subjective in content.

However, Amanda Lovelace is a contemporary poet that I connect with on a deep level through her words and the themes she conveys through them.

Her themes are always heavy hitting with trauma, sexual assault, abuse, feminism, and mental health, just to name a few. Themes that I have gone through only own live, and live with on a daily basis.

Listening to her collection via audio, with Lovelace herself narrating, it gives a whole different experience than just reading her words on paper. She's grown since the last collection I read, She's Some Kind of Magic, and I love that she tying in retellings of fairytales. This second book is about the frosty, evil queens.

Firstly, I loved the shine your icy crown the first time I read it, but I loved the audiobook of this collection even more, and it is so much more powerful. This collection needs to be heard by everyone and I am excited that the audiobook will make this collection even more impactful.

Although all of these poems don't speak to me, there is always something for everyone. I feel poetry has that power, to have one or two punch you in the gut and then some that just sound nice. Amanda's reading is quiet and soft but there is strength behind it. Overall a quick listen full of support and emotion.

I had originally read this physically as an ARC and I wasn't a fan, but I was willing to give it another chance when I saw there were audiobooks available for review. I'm so glad that I did! I enjoyed this much more the second time around. The audiobook is narrated by the author, which is my go to for poetry because the author always knows how they want the poems to be read out.

Amanda Lovelace is becoming one of my favorite writers, she makes me laugh and cry with just one poem. I will be buying all of her works now.

I really enjoyed this collection I honestly think I could have used these when I was much younger not to say they don't have merit as an adult now. This one is about impowering yourself you don't need a partner to see your self worth
