As a new book reviewer/bookstagramer this was very helpful. It provided a lot of insight into what to include in my reviews, especially on NetGalley. I recommend to anyone knew to this process. .
This is a helpful overview of everything you need to know to get started advocating for and reviewing books across a variety of platforms. The content is clear and concise and will get readers started on the path to success as reviewers. In the future, I would love to see a Toolkit wholly focused on writing helpful and engaging reviews!
This is a very useful guide on how to start your Netgalley account. It includes many tips and tricks how the platform works, together with tips for starting your social media accounts. I think it’s very useful when you’ve just started a bookish account and need some basic tips to start up.
It also includes a section for how to write a review and I will for sure come back to this.
Very good introduction on NetGalley. I only wish I’d found this book before I’d go on a requesting spree
This is a useful guide for book reviewers. Clear, succinct. Thanks for putting it together! I appreciated that there were examples for the different mediums that reviewers can use - instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.
I thought this gave a great overview on how to set up Net Galley as well as book social media and blogs. The links to additional resources were very useful and overall I found this document really helpful.
Helpful for newcomers, clear format, and helpful tips. Useful for me and I have referred to it a few times already.
As a new user to NetGalley this toolkit was extremely helpful. It gives great tips for writing reviews, using social media and how to help your chances of getting approved. It was provided a wealth of info and will be a great reference guide for the future.
No matter if you're a beginner or a long time member wherever your starting point is, this toolkit is designed to have everything you need to succeed.
Guidelines for creating your member Profile Tips for maintaining a strong Feedback Ratio, these pages are packed with advices and offers more than one could ask for.
If you have fewer books on your Shelf, consider this toolkit’s review section to brush up on tips for crafting book reviews even those tricky critical ones!
When you’re ready to share those reviews, this toolkit can help jumpstart your bookish social media platforms and offer suggestions for reviewing and creating content on social.
Totally met my expectations and this toolkit provided all the resources and necessary tips that I needed. To be honest, I don't think this book missed or left any part or steps undescribed.
This book is a must have and it's very helpful for all of us whoever is using NetGalley or thinking to start using it.
Highly recommended.
Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Thank you @netgalley @wearebookish for the #arc in exchange for a honest review.
Although I’ve been a NetGalley reviewer from some years, I want to avoid being trapped in a rut. To that end, I downloaded NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit (again) and re-read it. It promises “tips for crafting book reviews—even those tricky critical ones!”; “tips for maintaining a strong Feedback Ratio”; and “suggestions for reviewing and creating content on social”.
Does it fulfil those promises? Yes. Does it tell me anything I couldn’t work out for myself? Ummm…. maybe not – and it does omit some things I can’t work out for myself…
The Toolkit seems to have by someone who assumes the readers will be from the same demographic. For example, it blithely tells us to use hashtags without actually explaining how hashtags work. I can see that I put a # sign in front of Camelcased words, but should I separate a list of them with commas, spaces or doesn’t it matter? Do all platform algorithms pick them up and give them equal weighting regardless of how they’re sprinkled in the text? Should I put them in the body of a NetGalley review or only put them in the subsequent keywords section? Do I need to put # in front of each keyword or will the NetGalley process add the # automatically?
The Toolkit tells me to “Avoid the request spree.” Understandable, but how many books is a spree? Five? Ten? Thirty? If a publisher looks at my shelf awaiting feedback, what do they consider: simply how many books I have to review? Do they consider all the pub dates and see that I can easily fit their book into my schedule?
The Toolkit is not self-contained. It often re-directs the reader to pages on the NetGalley website for more detail. I can understand why the authors have done this: it means they only have to maintain a web-page rather than a page and a document, but it does give the impression that the Toolkit itself is a little light on content.
Overall, I found about 10% of the Toolkit was actually useful this time round.

To the point tips on how to get books, review books and link book reviews to social media. Great beginners guide, easy read and very helpful.
This is an excellent guide to creating a platform to be a successful book reviewer and influencer. The tips were clear and useful. The format of the toolkit is visually appealing and include useful links and resources. I definitely recommend all new and experienced reviewers take advantage of this resource.
I received access to this toolkit through NetGalley and Voluntarily give my review.
NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit is a nice guide on how to start with NetGalley and other social platforms. Short and useful advice on how to improve on reviewing books.
Really great book for new Netgalley users! So many great tips and tricks to help members succeed that I will definitely be using on my journey on the website.
A useful guide to getting started on Netgalley how to request copies and increase the likelihood of being approved for books available. Tips on writing good/bad reviews and getting the best use of social media platforms
Really useful tips and reminders for reviewing NetGalley books. I liked that it covered all the different platforms and lots of do's and don'ts.
This book is a helpful guide for getting started on book reviews for NetGalley. The advice in this book about planning and organizing posts is helpful for book reviews, and the suggestions can be applied to other aspects of daily life, such as school assignments. The information in the book was organized, and it was easy to follow the instructions and tips. I enjoy the advice about not being pressured to sign up for numerous books at one time. I am currently busy with graduate school, so I do not have much time to review books. So I appreciate the advice about how not everything is about quantity and the quality of the review is more important. I will be consulting this book for my future book reviews.
A handy guide to getting started on Netgalley and requesting copies, as well as different social media platforms, setting up your account and posting.
I was really impressed by how up to date the Toolkit is, and the notes about making content accessible for everyone through captions and using Camel Case in hashtags.
This will be updated regularly according to the description, so definitely worth checking back on for more tips. Would absolutely recommend for those just starting out on their reviewing adventures, as well as those who've been doing it for a while and considering a revamp.
This is a good kit for those who are new to NetGalley and find it hard to get to grips with everything that's happening. It gives some good advice and tips on how to write reviews, what to include, including how to write a negative review and also some great tips about what platforms to begin reviewing on, introductions to Booktok, BookTube, etc.
This guide unfortunately didn't really teach me anything new. I'm a seasoned reviewer here on netgalley (been reviewing for many years) and I already knew all the tips that were in this guide. But it's great for beginners and I'm sure the newbie me would have enjoyed reading this. I do think there could have been more information or more detailed information on how important it is to keep your feedback ratio high, some more tips rather than just saying 'don't go on a requesting spree' which I might not have even understood when I was new. Other than that though it still seems a good little guide for beginners, although I was disappointed that there seemed to be many places that wanted me to click on a link, but there were no actual links in the book I was reading on the netgalley shelf app - not sure what's happening there.
So, I'm giving in a 3 as for beginners it's good but not so much for those like me who know our way around now.
Extremely beneficent when you’re new to the website and need help navigating it. Everything was written comprehensively.
