This is a helpful overview for how to appropriately review books on multiple platforms. I’ve been on bookstagram for 4 years and didn’t see anything new here, but I can see this being useful for a beginner.
The platform overviews, general dos and don’ts, as well as blogging and tok-ing offer a grand landscape in which to post a review of your most loved (or hated) books. Thanks for all the information!
Loved this guide on writing better reviews! Sometimes I see the black page and feel stuck on how to describe what I enjoyed or didn’t about a book. I appreciate that netgalley provided this for help.
Thank you so much for this tooklit! I am new to the book review world and this booklet was extremely helpful in getting started and finding my 'groove'! I feel so much more confident in my review writing now!
Thank you. It was fine and informative. But I don't understand why I have to give a review on an instruction booklet and it to show up on my shelf.
Very helpful for reviewers. I Would prefer it didn’t show up in my netgalley shelf and stats. When I first looked for it, I thought it would just be an article. That would be a better format.
As a Netgalley newbie, this guide was a great place to start! Can't wait to jump into reviewing, and I appreciate Netgalley's help to make my first foray a good one!
A great guide if you're just getting started with NetGalley or just want a few more tips on how to get the most out of it! I read this after having taken a long break from my bookish social media and it had some good tips that helped me get back into it!
This was super helpful! I appreciated the info on reviews as well as social media. I mainly post on Instagram and loved the tips.
As a new reviewer, this toolkit is invaluable!
I loved the breakdown of how to write a review, what to include and how to engage a reader.
I’m already comfortable with social media, but still appreciated the tips :)
Thank you!
Really helpful! This is useful both for beginners and established reviewers and I'll definitely be reviewing it every six months or so to keep me on track and to make sure I'm making the best of my NetGalley reviews.
Very helpful in getting started on Net Galley. Would recommend to people starting a bookstagram or book blog. Or to brush up on your reviewing skills.
Even though I have been on bookstagram and actively reviewing for a while now, I thought this toolkit was very informative and interesting. I think this is absolutely brilliant for people who are just starting out.
This toolkit contains relevant information for any new or experienced NetGalley member. This guide provides valuable information on how to request books for review, how to increase the likelihood of being accepted for ARCs, and how to write reviews. In addition, the guide provides tips on various social media platforms. As someone who has spent the last year following various bookstagram and booktok accounts, a lot of the tips provided here are exhibited by popular creators. But it's the collection of all the information that makes this so valuable. I see myself referencing this guide often in the future. Overall, every NetGalley member should consider this toolkit a valuable resource.
This provided good information that helped me plan my posts. It was succinctly written and easy to understand. This should be required reading for all new bookstagrammers or booktokers.
Excellent overview for navigating Netgalley. Provides a great insight into all the stages required to be an effective reviewer. Definitely one that I will return to time and time again
Thank you to the publisher, We Are Bookish, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Gist
This is going to be a quick little review. I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this guide book, but I’m glad I did.
I have been requesting and reviewing book titles on NetGalley for almost ten years now and thought I had it pretty much figured out. However, it is always good to brush up on one’s skills, especially if any new or recent changes have been made to the platform.
These changes aren’t big or complicated to adapt to, but still. It’s good to get a few pointers straight from the source.
The Details
This guide really does a good job helping beginners getting started. There are lots of diagrams and little checklists to help keep things organized and from becoming overwhelming.
At first I was a little confused why I couldn’t download this file onto my Kindle like most titles I receive from NetGalley. But there is a reason for that: every major section in the guide has extra links that directs the reader to the We Are Bookish website with more detailed information and instructions on the topic discussed in the guidebook.
The guidebook also discusses all major social media channels, such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, and how each has a slightly different way to approach them and use to their full benefit with regards to publishing book reviews.
The Verdict
Overall, there are a few new tidbits of information in this guidebook that I will definitely start using. It is easy to read and understand.
I appreciate NetGalley putting this together and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to get started writing and publishing book reviews.
This is so helpful. I wasn't aware of how it works here but this kit made it so easy for me. After completing this i checked We are Bookish and oh my god, i was glad there were such amazing tips and recommendations for better blogging and reviewing. I will keep looking up for your tips and tricks to keep doing better.
Extremely helpful tips and tricks that I will utilize to work my way through my ever-growing TBR review book pile.
Great Info - thank you for providing this for us creators! From booktok, to booktube there is plenty of great information to get creators aligned with publishers’ missions.
