Who would have thought after nearly 5 years of posting reviews on NetGalley that I would learn a few new tips and tricks to improve my reviews? This is a solid guide and is highly recommended for anyone interested in reviewing ARCs of soon-to-be-published books.
As someone new to NetGalley, I found this toolkit to be helpful and engaging. High level snippets of information or tips are arranged like posit it notes on the page and organized by topic. This style made it easy to read and remember the information.
This book advocate kit is very useful and full of helpful tips to become a great book reviewer/advocate. Thank you We Are Bookish for putting this together.
I've been active on NetGalley and Goodreads for awhile, but I'm just getting my "Bookstagram" account up and running, and the advice in this toolkit was timely and very helpful!
This has been a helpful resource for learning to write book reviews. Thank you to NetGalley for providing it.
Whether you're new to NetGalley or planning your comeback, the Book Advocate Toolkit is the perfect way to learn more about the book business, and your role in it as a reader and reviewer. The social media landscape, in particular, is mapped out in great detail, with external links to more detailed information from We Are Bookish.
The most useful section for me was the platform overview. Book enthusiasts get lots of advice like, "Start a BookTok!," but very few of those suggestions come coupled with best practices or simplified ways to get started. The Book Advocate Toolkit more than makes up for the gap - in fact, there's so much going on within the pages, it's downright indispensable if you want to be any sort of player at all in the book review game. Even sections I thought I knew pretty well (looking at you, book reviews!) contained thoughtful tips on how to take my writing to the next level.
Now that I've read the material, I'm rereading and taking notes. Thanks to We Are Bookish, I feel equipped with the tools I need to redeem my Feedback Ratio, tailor my social media presence to what will work best for me and my style, and relaunch my book review platforms this fall.
As someone who is fairly new to the book reviewer world, this was extremely helpful. Very simple layout and easy-to-understand advice. There were definitely suggestions mentioned in the pdf that I hadn't even thought of!
Definitely great for beginners though it would be helpful if the description explains it involves everything on how to set up a NetGalley account, how to request book review copies on there and how to plot out your reviews rather than help on how to draft all kinds of reviews, including critical ones. It's pretty short so definitely go for it if you're new to NetGalley and are looking for a basic guide!
This was very helpful to know what NetGalley is looking for and the guidelines to follow. Expectations were extremely clear in how to request titles, providing feedback for both positive and critical reviews, as well as how to manage social media.
4.5/5!
super helpful compilation of tips for netgalley users and just general bookish review tips! its a great reference especially for those starting out on netgalley (like me:D ) and contains links to more in-depth tips webpages as well! highly recommend for everyone who first joins netgalley to take a look at this toolkit before starting out officially !
This was helpful since I’m new to NetGalley I appreciated the advice of what to do and not do on this site.
I loved getting tips for the social media platforms I use to post book reviews. I mostly use instagram, but recently added a BookTok account, and loved these ideas to post Netgalley book reviews and videos. I also took note of the tips for requesting books on this platform.
*many thanks to Netgalley for the gifted copy
Extremely helpful guide to NetGalley. I was looking for help on writing reviews and this definitely hit the mark. Thanks, NetGalley!
This is great! Very helpful. I have been on NetGalley for awhile and figured I knew what there is to know. Not true. I learned a lot. Thanks for this resource! 💕
NetGalley did a wonderful job putting together a step by step manual .. I really appreciated the guide for when you get stuck on how to review a book you may not have enjoyed.
Great! I was looking for a guide exactly like this!
It covers all the aspects of the reviewer work in general with some specific tips for writing a review or managing our social accounts. Great job!
NetGalley, with We Are Bookish, has produced a Book Advocate Toolkit. This toolkit is the perfect way to get started and comfortable on NetGalley. It walks the reader through creating a profile and selecting titles to review. There are tips for posting on social media including video reviews. Topics include hashtags and planning to put a review across all your social media platforms. It is a great tool to help the reader start with NetGalley or improve an already established profile.
This is an honest review of the title. I received it from NetGalley.

Great tips for newbies and the layout and design were eyecatching. I even learned a few things!!! I am sure to many people these tips were obvious, but for new people like me, I found a lot of the tips to be easy to follow and helpful.
Many people might already know a lot of the tips, but honestly, it's really good to see them written down. And there are some new things in there that are absolutely useful!
Oh, and I adore the layout!
Thank you, NetGalley, for this helpful primer in navigating the role of a reviewer! Instructions were clear, suggestions were plentiful, and the layout was easy to follow.
