This is a women's fiction novel about four strangers that came to Nantucket for summer work to make money after college before starting their careers and adult lives. Fast forward 25 years when they all come back to Nantucket with their own children for a week long reunion. It's a dual time line that goes back and forth allowing us to see what summer island life is like, friendships that can be made with complete strangers, secrets that have been kept for over two decades, family expectations, summer loves, and dreams to be made into reality. It was a nice book to end my summer reading with. I enjoyed it.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book came out back in May 2022.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I requested the book because I have read others by this author and loved them...and what I am about to say is very shocking to me but...I didn't really care for this one much. I read her books because she brings alive a place I have never even been to and I normally love all of the characters...in my opinion, this one was almost like she stepped back and let someone else write the book...nothing seemed like it came from her...What started my disenchantment was the name of one of the characters, as stupid as that sounds...I can't even remember her name now but it was 2 first names and they said them over and over and over again...I hated her within the first 1/3 of the book. As for the rest of them? There was not one character in that whole book that I actually liked...not one. :(

Told in alternating times if “that summer” and “this summer.” That summer is when 4 very different young people spend a summer in the basement of an old hotel on Nantucket. “This summer” is the reunion of those 4 people and their grown children 25 years later. While it kind of describes the summer all of us wish we might have had when we were younger, it doesn’t seem like much really happens….

I'll always pick up one of Nancy Thayer's books. I love her writing — particularly her descriptions of Nantucket — but this one lacked the usual sparkle. Dual timelines are always tough for me, and I wasn't particularly invested in either of them. Summer Love wasn't one of her most memorable books, but I remain a fan and will absolutely try whatever she writes in the future.

How can you not love a book set in Nantucket? "Summer Love" by Nancy Thayer is the quintessential beach read. This book is filled with dreams, hopes, desires, and plenty of drama. Although I found it somewhat difficult to connect to the characters, I enjoyed this book overall.
Thank you NetGalley for the copy in exchange for my review.

This was a quick summer read. I thought there would be a little more besides reminiscing. But it was a lovely setting with Nantucket.

I loved this book!! I loved the back and forth from the past to the present. This is such a fun book to read in the summer months. The characters were very well developed. I loved the location of the story. The descriptions made me feel like I was living on the island.
Four strangers rent bargain-basement rooms in an old hotel near the beach. They all plan to have the summer of their lives. Despite their differences, the four bond over trips to the beach, Wednesday-night dinners, and everything that Nantucket has to offer. Then 26 years later they come back to the island for a reunion. They bring their kids which starts another generation of memories being made on the island.
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

First - I love Nantucket. I love that this story is a dual timeline first featuring the parents as young adults living their summer on Nantucket and then coming back for a reunion with THEIR children for some time. It was interesting to see how one summer shaped them and help them with the rest of their lives.

Nancy Thayer always does a great job of painting beautiful pictures of the island of Nantucket. I always feel like I'm taking a little vacation whenever I read one of her books. Sadly, that's where my affection for this book ends. Summer Love chapters float between "This Summer" and "That Summer." Personally, I am not a fan of books with non-linear timelines, since I find that they constantly pull me out of the story. I don't enjoy having to reorient myself with each new chapter. I really find anything likable about any of these characters and found the plot mostly dry and boring. Even for a light beach read, this book was lacking in any real substance. Finally around 70% through the book there was a little twist to the story, but even that wasn't developed as much as it could have been. I also found much of the dialogue old-fashioned and ill-fitting for the character's young ages. Overall, this story just didn't work for me.

It doesn't quite feel like summer without a Nancy Thayer book in hand! I adored this coming-of-age story of friends through the years sprinkled with love, loss, and secrets. Four teenagers come to Nantucket to work and live for the summer and little did they know that it would be a summer that impacted their lives forever. NT does a great job of really transporting you to Nantucket and providing you with juuust the right amount of details so that you feel like you're there!

Another home run from my favorite Beach Reads author. I won’t recap the story, but will say that the flip flop between This Summer and That Summer was masterful and intriguing as we saw their stories unfold. I would have liked to see more wrap up of “the accident” with present day but overall provided me with that perfect closure of a summer read AND left me wondering if there will be a Next Summer as we see where everyone goes.

I loved the back and forth timeline of this book set on Nantucket in the 1990s and today. Four friends come back together after an epic summer spent in a basement apartment. While their lives have gone is wildly different directions, they still have the same connection and motivations. It was a perfect beach read!

Four strangers and basement rooms, in a Nantucket Hotel that is being worked on for the summer. They all come to Nantucket with their past baggage and their future hopes. At first the only thing they have in common is their living arrangement. As the summer begins we meet Ariel, Sheila, Wyatt and Nick. They have set up their jobs and are looking forward to summer. Nancy Thayer has done it again, an intriguing group of young adults, on Nantucket trying to find their way in the world. I love a summer read with characters that have depth. They make mistakes, ask for forgiveness and I love how the author goes from that summer to the present; so you find out he w things end. This was a fast, 4 star read for me. I want to thank Netgalley and the author for my copy, for an honest review. It is always a pleasure to read and review Nancy Thayer’s books.

This is another great story by Nancy Thayer. Here is another read that leaves you wanting more. The story of four teenagers who spent one summer together that shaped their lives well in to adulthood. A pair of them got together and now are adults. This book will be recommended to many of my avid readers who love the beach reads. .

A nice beach read for the end of summer. Nancy Thayer has a nice cast of characters that meet on Nantucket . We meet Nick, Wyatt, Ariel and Shelia. The rent 4 rooms in the basement of a hotel that is waiting on construction to begin. Fast forward and the 4 friends meet 25 years later at the same hotel that Nick now owns. They wax fondly about their adventures 25 years before. This was a nice relaxing read. I have always wanted to read a novel from Nancy Thayer and I can say I was not disappointed.
