Sleep Deprived by Therese Heckenkamp is a gripping thriller novella that will appeal to fans of Samantha Hayes and Kiersten Modglin. The story revolves around Mae, a grieving mother who encounters a father with his baby in a cemetery one night. He seems clueless about how to take care of his baby. Remembering her own baby, Mae offers to go home with John and his baby so that she can help him take care of her. They drive to John's home, and Mae spends the night taking care of the baby. But is everything as it seems?

Here is a chilling excerpt from Chapter 1:

"I don't deserve to sleep.
My eyes stung, wet and raw in the cool night air. I hadn't slept well in two months, five days, fourteen hours -
Enough.
Making time obsessively didn't change anything.
I hurried on, ignoring my heavy eyelids, my fuzzy brain. Amazing how a body could keep going with so little to recharge it.
Tugging my jacket closer, I crossed the road with no concern for traffic. Cars rarely traveled this country lane, especially at night, and if a vehicle came now, it would be justice.
God's justice."

Overall, Sleep Deprived is a breath of fresh air in a genre of boring domestic thrillers. This is definitely a novella and not as long as standard thrillers, but that might be what I found so refreshing about it. Standard domestic thrillers take a lot of time getting to the action and have a lot of filler. One highlight of this book is the constant suspense. The short length worked to this book's advantage. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I had to keep reading to find out what happens to Mae. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book, which is available now!

Fluffy, Furry Snowballs! 😳😯

Wow this kept me on my toes. This was a fabulous quick, short story I gobbled up! Mae is at a cemetery, an odd encounter with a man named John. Lack of sleep causes her confusion and fuzziness as she fights to save a baby's life and then soon, her own. So much at stake - her life, her marriage and her mind. Could this end in the worst way possible? Is everything she experienced truly real? I just adored this quick little thriller read! The only downside of the novel was that it was so short. If this could've been dragged out a bit more, I'd have loved every part of it & given a higher review. Still so great!
