Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I'm sure I requested this one because I liked the cover and while sometimes that bites me in the butt, it did not this time. I will admit it took me awhile to get into this book and to get to know the characters (shower scene aside lol) but once I did, I really liked it. It is full of romance, has great characters, and a lot of travel...put them all together in a road trip and you have a great time. And it was nice reading about Australia as I don't tend to read a lot of books that take place there :)
Who doesn't love a good Aussie story and it had depth. Liked this book and enjoyed it very much. I liked it very much.
This one was a lovely read. I really enjoyed reading this one. I just love this kind of books.
4 stars read for me
A celebrity desperate to escape his life. A woman desperate to heal a broken heart. They both escape to Australia where things heat up. The push and pull between Evie and Adam that will keep you turning pages. And when the steam erupts, swoon. Take a tour through the Australian outback with Evie and Adam and fall in love right along with them.
Her Outback Driver reads more like a story of travel in the Australian Outback than a romance novel, and for me that was not what I was hoping for. It was heavy on the descriptions of the location and the adventure, which if you have interest in the locale will appeal to you but for me it took away from any story or romance between the characters. I liked the ending and was happy with the epilogue a lot, but it was very slow for me.
I rarely give 5-star reviews - I'm super sniffy about tired old cliches, thin plots, and characters behaving badly for no reason except to create conflict, especially in romances - but thankfully there's none of that in this book. It's a solid story, with two strong leading characters and lots of twists and turns as they fall in love.
Definitely recommend it.
QOTD: What's the longest road trip you've been on?
My A: My husband and I drive 11.5 hours from Iowa to South Dakota this past summer!

As a lover of all things road trips, I of course was totally sold on a book all about two people falling I. Love while road griping across Australia. I mean... Do I really need to say anymore than that?!

This was an emotional book with two flawed characters who each came with their own baggage to work through. This is an opposites attract romance with Adam (Michael) being a total grump and Evie being a ball of sunshine. Of course the Australian setting is just the cherry on top. I found myself googling all the places mention so I could get the mental image just right. Let me tell you, it's even more beautiful than you think and I highly rec5 doing that!

BLURB:
When former Olympic champion, Michael Adams—now Canada’s hottest reality TV star—insults his fake showbiz wife on social media, he jumps on the first flight to Australia to escape the ensuing scandal. Desperate to experience ordinary life again—if only for a few weeks—he becomes “Adam”; just another tourist exploring the dusty Outback trails in a beat up truck. But with a reward out for his safe return and his fame’s nasty habit of catching up with him when he least expects, Adam needs a better disguise… and he’s just found one.
Tired of lies and liars, British Backpacker Evie Blake is taking a year out of her busy London life, looking for adventure to heal her broken heart. So when the hot Canadian she meets at the campground offers to drive her through Western Australia’s wild Kimberley region, she grabs the chance, unaware he has the world out looking for him. He’s just a down-on-his-luck traveler, right?
But when hot days turn into even hotter nights, how long does Adam have before Evie discovers who he really is?
Michael Adams has found himself in the Australian outback, having escaped the media after he insulted his wife, whom he married solely to reinvent himself after a successful career as an Olympic swimmer. Desperate to escape the scandal and to experience ordinary life again, he decides to become ‘Adam’ and travel through the remote Kimberley region in his truck. When he meets British backpacker Evie Blake, he finds his perfect disguise. Evie believes that the gorgeous Canadian gives her the perfect chance to travel and to mend her broken heart, having broken up with her partner of 15 years. As they spend more time together, Adam begins to wonder if he can keep his secret from Evie, or whether she will discover who he really is.
This was a couple who at first seem too at odds to have any chance of having a successful relationship. Adam seems so lost and hides behind the lies that are seemingly endless. Evie seems to be stuck in her past with Zac and is frustrated with Adam’s lack of direction. Yet as the story progresses, Adam makes Evie feel special, having lost her confidence with her relationship breakup. Evie makes Adam feel that his future ambitions are possible and that he is loved. Combined with the breathtaking scenery of the Australian outback, this is a romance that had me captivated. I also loved the epilogue and was thrilled to see the next few chapters of a new book in this series. The author weaves in a taboo topic in a sensitive manner, making for a more thought-provoking novel. This is an author I will definitely be following from now on.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
