I absolutely loved this book. I was initially put off by the over 400 pages but, once I started reading, time flew by. The romance got my heart fluttering and the suspense kept me going. I seriously couldn't figure out the mystery until the last 10 minutes of the book. I can't wait to get get my hands on the other books in the series.
This one just wasn’t for me. I DNFed at 40% because of slow pacing and the fact that I wasn’t interested in the characters.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It’s all about reuniting small town lovers after a ten year separation. Sometimes this trope is well done, excuses are valid and all can be forgiven but this time I thought the heroes ridiculous abandonment to be just cruel and selfish. Then there was the secrets the heroine was harboring which she was scared to share, easy to guess as it too was a not uncommon plot point. [Secret baby but tragedy occurs. (hide spoiler)] The big threat to their lives and her parents killer was also a letdown. Maybe I just lucked out in figuring who the guilty party was so early or it’s wasn’t that big of a secret, I dunno, it just was not surprising at all. It’s sad too because the flashbacks to their relationship were really cute and I kept wondering wtf was gonna break them up and why. We find out the truth and of course the heroine forgives him immediately. 🤯 Not only that but once again we have a strong heroine with a sex drive that she just can’t deny around the hero. It was annoying and I wanted more of a backbone from her, especially as I’m supposed to believe she’s an assistant DA in her adult life. Not much felt original and I just feel like I’ve read this type of book a million times before.
I read this book so long ago and completely forgot to review it on this site - Just looking through my notes, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the writer's style. Pacing and character development very strong.
Midnight Secrets started with a bang but quickly stalled. While I appreciate a good history of characters, there is a fine balance between bogging down the story with past details and giving just enough to entice. Second-chance romance is a trope that I enjoy, and Savannah & Zach’s chemistry despite the years and misunderstandings separating them was palpable. However, I kept getting the feeling that I have read the same plot-line several times already. The concept wasn't new and while the baddie twist at the end did surprise me I never felt wowed. I'm not sure if I'll continue on with the series, but romantic suspense fans who enjoy second chance romances, mystery, and danger may want to give Midnight Secrets a try.
Did not get the chance to read before the book was archived. Thank you for approving my request.
