I use to read a lot of Chick Lit and somehow it ended up having a bad reputation.

Right now, they have changed chick lit to rom com, but either way I loved this book. The story was so cute and I found myself really engrossed in it and Bella is an imperfect heroine that I loved.

Her adjusting to "normal" life is hilarious and the perfect tone and pacing.

Arabella is heiress to a soup empire and is engaged to Francis, the son of her father’s business partner. But within days, her wedding is off, her family has been ousted from the business, and she’s had to move into a tiny studio flat near a soup kitchen in Liverpool.
With her pampered life snatched away from her, Bella takes a job in the kitchen but doesn’t revealed to its owner, Dan, her real identity.
This ‘riches to rags’ rom-com is a promising debut, with Bella making a delightful bumbling character who refuses to give up when the chips are down.

This book is absolutely fantastic and hilarious. What a debut! Danielle Owen-Jones stand up and take a bow because this is just amazing.

Bella is a brilliant character, I have loved her from the get go. She is likeable and relatable and given a number of laughs.

This moves at the perfect pace and I have found myself devouring page after page. This is a a book I have devoured in just one sitting.

There is nothing negative I can say about this gem. This is filled with so many gorgeous moments. This is a definite for the TBR. I highly recommend this fantastic gem.

Over the top but funny romcom. Perfect for fans of second chance stories.

I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I just wasn't able to connect with and feel invested in the plot, even if there were some funny moments and compelling characters.

Ultimately, the stakes felt a bit low and the main conflict was the progtagonist's dishonesty with her new friends and love interest, while she adapated a bit too easily to her her life after being cut off from her family's wealth. I think readers looking for something calming and easy to read would enjoy this book, particularly if they like stories about the formerly wealthy learning to understand the world of the not-so-rich. The ideal reader for this book just wasn't me.

Stone Broke Heiress by Danielle Owen-Jones

If you are looking for an engaging and fun story about gaining a new perspective in life, this is it.

Bella falls from a life of luxury to unemployed and single in a matter of days. Getting back on track is not as easy as it seems. Nothing is what she is used to and she is not prepared for a life where things are not done for her. This is a Hallmark type story. Silly and over the top in parts but also charming and humble.

I really enjoyed the side characters in this story, when Bella got to be a bit much, they really brought the story together and made it heart warming.

Thanks to @bookouture for my copy and welcoming me onto this book tour!

This was my first book by Danielle Owen-Jones and absolutely enjoyed it. I received a complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

The book follows Bella a heiress whose life is changed drastically when she loses her inheritance and her boyfriend to her best friend. What does a girl do to find happiness . I enjoyed this book because Bella was brave, strong, funny and resilient. Highly recommend this book. Everyone needs to read this book. Loved it

What a fabulous book. Funny, glamorous, honest, real, entertaining and page turning. This is the authors first book and as you can probably guess already, I loved it. An amusing tale of what happens when we lose our “essential” home comforts! (Not that most of us mere mortals have the same essentials as Arabella!)

I loved the array of characters and the way the family dynamics are explored. I love that the author throws a curve ball in and makes you question which way the ending will go.

The book raises awareness of very real social issues in a really great way, alongside the main storylines. Perhaps there will be people that identify with some of the issues around food waste and make some small changes after reading. It did make me want to go and make some delicious soup!

A great first book, and I look forward to reading the authors next offering.

This book was not meant for me. I understand the story was about Arabella’s growth, but I could not stand her. She was lacking basic common sense, being rich isn’t an excuse. I did appreciate seeing her growth and her make relationships, but ultimately that wasn’t enough for me considering the majority of the book was Arabella having to learn what living as a lower/middle-class person is like (which was far from enjoyable for me).

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Danielle Owen-Jones grew up in Merseyside. She started her career as a senior journalist and features writer before launching her own freelance PR and content writing business. Danielle now calls Cumbria home, where she lives with her husband, Tom, and adorable cockapoo, Poppy.

“The whiff of his aftershave, combined with a tinge of smelly bin juice, fills the air as we roll away into the night, like a budget Bonnie and Clyde.”

Bella loved the high life as the heiress to a soup empire- until it all came crashing down. She also finds out her fiancé and best friend are not the people she thought. Running away is the only option, except she can’t go far without money. Starting over is hard, but it can be life-changing.

This was such a cute book. There were several funny moments, sweet moments, and epically sweet moments.

The character development in this novel was top-notch. The growth, understanding, perspective, and abilities are so well represented.

I loved that this book spoke so positively for people dealing with addiction who were seeking help. That removal of the stigma was beautiful.

This is a very heartwarming, charming, enlightened, and fun read!

I have to say that overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun, quick read about someone used to spend money without second-guessing it, until her world is turned upside down and they quickly come to the conclusion they need to relearn how to live her life (almost) like everyone else and see things from a new perspective.

I really liked Bella's character growth throughout the book but I have to say that I didn't particularly feel anything about Dan, given that we hardly saw them interact until he became a love interest. We were told they spent time together but we barely got to see it, so despite his interesting background I didn't really see his appeal. I think he gave her too much too soon. I would like to see their relationship progress as we were reading, not read a couple pages and find out he was already taking her to his sacred place after barely knowing her. I was honestly more interested in reading about Susie and Elsie, as they were fantastic side characters.

One thing I think should have been better developed was when they found out about Bella's true identity. For me it seemed like they didn't properly talk about it and things were resolved too soon. I don't know, I guess it would be more interesting to see Bella fight for the ones she loves, after messing it up big time.

I also enjoyed reading about all the drama surrounding Whittington Soup and the way it all ended, giving us the perspective that we don't really know what life has in store for us.

I have to say this book peaked my interest to read more work from the author. If you're looking for an enjoyable romance, this is your book!

~{ Stone Broke Heiress: A Completely Laugh-Out-Loud Romantic Comedy }~

That’s what the ARC file title reads. To that I have to ask, really? I think I snickered at Bella(h)’s mom’s antics a time or two maybe & that was about it 🤔 .

Mostly the author’s basic concepts for the plot were pretty solid, par for the course as far as rom-coms go. I do see the potential in Ms. Owen-Jones’ writing(the ideas are there) & maybe after she has a few more books under her belt, I’ll consider giving one of hers another try.

The problem here is I thought SBH was a better guide through & around Liverpool(the setting) at times than the book was developing & fleshing out the characters & the story. i.e. A little too much telling instead of showing & giving dimension. I didn’t really get grumpy from Dan(H) for the whole grumpy/sunshine trope. If Bella hadn’t kept telling me he was grumpy, idk at best I probably would’ve viewed him as briefly disinterested 🤷🏻‍♀️. When things like this happen & I can’t get past the disconnect, the story just tends to really drag along for me, unfortunately.
description

In a nutshell - SBH was okay-ish, but didn’t pique my curiosity to see what was gonna happen next. Just not my cuppa.

Becky Bloomwood meets Elle Woods, with a sprinkle of Princess Diaries sass and lots of soup talk. I was looking for a binge read worthy book and Stone Broke Heiress definitely delivered!
It was hilarious, without any over the top I am - so - helpless- antics from our protagonist, Bella but also a good part growing up/owning up to the circumstances.
W
hen Bella's beloved family business, Whittington Soup, is hit by a scandal, her dad is forced out of the company by the board of directors and secretly his partner and friend, Jonathan. Bella immediately quits her job as a PR & marketing head at her family company and takes a hard look at her life.
While her parents still manage to find her accomadation along with sorting their life out, Bella doesn't sit and moan.
I really liked how she came through all the adversities while also becoming a better version of herself! I enjoyed the history about Liverpool, which I never got to visit while living there and also the sense of community shown.
Dan seemed quite dishy and Susie was a friend I also need in my life! Dan's grandma was a very lovable character adding spunk to the story.

The character development was good but my only beef is the lack of detail about Bella's dad and a lack of proper adult romance. He was such a sweetheart, I wanted to get to know him better and also the romance was a bit YA. All the soup talk, recipes and then the soup kitchen left me craving soup!

Pick it up if you enjoy a good coming of age story that is also hilarious, with a sweet romance thrown in!

The first ten percent I struggled with this, the shallow characters with their love of all things fake and expensive. All except Bella’s dad who I took to straight away. Then came the cheating sex scene and I began to really enjoy it, not sure what that says about me but Bella became more likeable, relatable and her humour started to really come to the fore.

Gone was the fiancé, job, best friend and credit cards. Not only was she living in dumpedville she was about to get up close and personal with dumpster diving and who knew getting a bus could be so exciting! I ended up being Bella’s personal cheerleader and absolutely loving her development.

A riches to rags romcom it is but it is also just a girl standing in front of a boy covered in smelly bin juice but still managing to smell the aftershave.

📝Short Summary:
From riches to rags! Six months ago, Bella Whittington used to be the heiress of a soup empire worth millions, now she’s jobless, homeless, and fianceless after catching her Fiancé and her best friend in a … might I say very compromising position. Having to suddenly experience ordinary life, Bella quickly realizes that a life of luxury may not be what she wants.

💭Thoughts:
Thank you @Danielle Owen-Jones @netgalley and @bookouture for this e-arc! This book was such a cute and funny read, the perfect pick-me-up! Danielle Owen-Jones had me cracking up! I saw a lot of other reviewers compare this to a chick-flick, and I couldn’t have said it better myself! The characters are all so loveable. I adored Bella, her sassiness, and braveness. It was nice seeing her journey to self-discovery and, seeing her grow as a person. I adored her relationship with Dan and how much impact he had on Bella’s growth. I wished we got to see more of them together. I loved Bella and Susie’s friendship! And let’s not forget Herby, love your Herb’s! This book is predictable but very easy to follow and, I recommend it if you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud rom-com! For a debut, Danielle Owen Jones killed it!

Funny #romcom that keeps you laughing out loud and engaged throughout. So likable if you want a fun, easy read!

A pleasant, fun but not quite a “wow” read. It was a very pleasant way to pass a few hours, and I did like the heroine Bella. The pace is good and there are some excellent supporting characters to add flavour to the story. The dialogue felt natural, I knew who was speaking and the writing flowed smoothly.

Whilst the author's voice was pleasant enough the humour was a little too... obvious. Like an over told joke, you could see the punchline approaching from quite a distance. It felt as though the "funny" parts should be accompanied by some 70's canned laughter. Yes there was plenty of humour, and the book did make me smile, but it didn't quite manage to grow organically within the prose. This needed serious moments, emotional moments and reflective moments to help balance the crazy.

The author had researched (or knows) Liverpool well, and I enjoyed how the city was almost a character in itself. If you want a fun, nicely written, easy-to-read rom-com then this is very much worth trying.

Stone Broke Heiress by @danniowenjonesauthor was such a fun read!

Left me laughing out loud at Bella and her naive questions. The amount of times Dan sighed before explaining her something was just hilarious.

Do give it a read if you are looking for hilarious, romantic novel with a grumpy male main character 🥺♥️ (the last one was a chef’s kiss according to me)( but then again I am a simp for grumpy men😭)

Laugh out loud all the way. This was so lovely and fun, that's why I love Rom-Com, they keep me alive and ready for life.

One day you think you have it all, but the next you discovered you really didn't and realize what really means to have it all.

This ARC was granted to me through NetGalley and approved by Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
