I adored this story, and the way Bella's character blossomed as she figured out how to be independent, apart from her wealthy upbringing! I loved the romance, and the quirky characters. Very much reminded me of season 1 Rachel Green, and I loved it!!!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Stone Broke Heiress' by Danielle Owen-Jones.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Danielle Owen-Jones, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 21st March 2022.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also her debut novel.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'The new must-read for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk and Schitt’s Creek!' I am a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 37 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Liverpool, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I actually visited Liverpool a few years ago so am intrigued to see if recognise any of the settings.

This book is written in first person perspective and the protagonist is Bella Whittington. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

OMG!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK.

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene for you. I could hear the Scouse accents, feel the love and smell the soup all throughout this absolutely stunning page turner. The cover and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline is absolutely hilarious as well as heartwarming. It is the most feel good book I have read for a long time. Instead of your typical tags to riches storyline this is a unique riches to rags one. It is filled with laughter, soup, love, deceit, soup, friendship, heartbreak, soup, community and did I mention soup? I became absolutely absorbed into the storyline and couldn't stop turning the pages from beginning to end. There were moments I laughed, was almost in tears and was shouting at a few of the characters. It really felt like I was walking or dump diving next to Bella throughout the story. It also highlights the differences between the rich and poor and how the amount that one person spends on a pair of boots could feed another for at least a month which is really quite tragic. I believe that this book will help to open people's eyes more to the plight of others and for them to help where they can whether by volunteering with the homeless or donating to a food bank which is a fantastic achievement for a book. I loved exploring Liverpool again and the atmosphere was perfect.

This book would make an absolutely stunning movie which I would love to see!!!

DO NOT START THIS BOOK UNTIL YOU CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULE AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!

It is set over/includes multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

I was completely invested in the characters who were all strong and realistic. I was intrigued watching Bella's transformation from designer Queen to bargain hunter and watching her character change and develop throughout, for the better may I add. I really liked her from the start but I absolutely adored her by the end. I loved seeing her relationship with her parents and how close she was with them and most definitely watching her relationship with Dan grow and develop. Dan is an absolute sweetheart who I was really find of and I think that they would make a perfect couple. I would love to meet them both again in a future book. It wasn't just Dan and Bella I grew to enjoy a fondness with but also Susie and Elsie who were both larger than life characters and one of my favourites the absolutely adorable Herbie!!! I adore meeting pets in books and Herbie is definitely a firm favourite of mine. An absolutely amazing group of characters who worked perfectly well to make an absolutely stunning storyline.

Congratulations Danielle on absolutely STUNNING novel, one that will stay with me for a long time. If I didn't know this was your debut I would never have guessed, you have done an amazing job and I cannot wait to read your next success 🥂

This was a quick, easy and cute read that I finished in one sitting. It was well written with a compelling storyline and characters that were developed well, relatable and likeable. A really enjoyable read.

After a long list of psych thrillers and family dramas, I was very excited to read a rom com, and Stone Broke Heiress by Danielle Owen-Jones totally fit the bill.
It had everything a person could want in a romantic comedy.
The heroine, Bella, is a mess. But she is a funny mess. The blurb spells out her downfall, but it doesn’t do justice to just how brilliant and blazingly spectacular the fall is.
Let’s just say that Bella truly has the worst of all days. And ends up having to start a new life that is quite literally the polar opposite of what she is used to.
There are times when her ineptness is a bit too much. The author does a good job with the “fish out of water” theme, and I suppose there truly are some people who are just that clueless.
But there are a few times that it seems over the top. For me, those happen to be the ones where Bella is thinking about things. In a strange way, her thoughts don’t always match her actions.
For example, when she is upset that she screwed up soup on her first day, but also is worrying about her clothes or where to get sushi. It’s like her brain isn’t exactly connected at all times.
However, I suppose that she could just be that pampered and isolated. But the reader is told that more than shown it. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t always ring true.
The only other thing that got annoying was the pet names that Bella’s parents have for her. Again, I guess that is her mom’s “French-ness” coming through. But it seemed at times that the author was trying too hard to think of cute names.
All that being said, I really enjoyed the trajectory of the story itself. I thought the overall plot was good, the setting was different, and I liked the characters. They were just unique enough to be interesting.
I would have liked a little bit more of Elsie. She needed more scenes. And I think it took Bella waaaay too long to come to the realization of how she could truly help the situation.
Oh, and I asked my son (who is a football expert) the following question: “If you were in Liverpool and were asked blue or red, what would you say?” He immediately answered: “Hmmm, Everton or Liverpool…..” So, that was kind of funny.
All in all, I really enjoyed Stone Broke Heiress and would recommend it for a quick, pleasant rom-com. I look forward to more from Danielle Owen-Jones.

This book reminded me so much of Schitt’s Creek, which just so happens to be by favorite show! I enjoyed the riches to rags theme. The MC, Bella, reminded me so much of Alexis Rose. It was so nice to witness her self growth throughout the novel. She learned what really is important in life, realizing that money doesn’t equate to happiness. It was also very sweet to witness the relationship between Bella and Dan blossom. If you’re a fan of The Rose Family, then you’ll love this book!

Stone Broke Heiress is a fun riches to rags story, that gave me all the hallmark vibes! I will say that I had a hard time reading this story at times, I just didn’t fully connect with the writing, but this definitely was still an adorable story! There were definitely a lot of funny moments, a couple laugh out loud moments. I really enjoyed the main and side characters in the story. I loved seeing Bella’s growth throughout the book, probably one of my favorite things.

If you’re looking for a light-hearted, easy to read, funny and cozy book, I’d say this one’s for you!

From riches to rags! This book is all about one being content with the life they have and being kind to others.

To be honest, I loved Bella. I loved her growth and how she was open to seeing things from a different perspective. This was a good rom-com with a touch of social issues like homelessness.

Despite the choices Bella made, one thing was certain: she was willing to learn and grow. She didn't mind working in a soup kitchen for someone who once had everything.

Thank you Bookouture for this lovely story!

My favourite chick lit of the year so far. I love Danielle's style of writing and humour. Some seriously laugh out loud moments in this book. Poor Bella's first attempt at cleaning was brilliant. I really had a love hate relationship with Bella. I rather disliked her at first but as the book goes on, she changes from this spoilt princess into this compassionate, caring young woman. Let's not forget about swoon worthy Dan (anybody who looks like Rege-Jean Page is okay with me. Overall this is just such a lovely read and I am so looking forward to reading more from Danielle Owen-Jones in the future.

Stone Broke Heiress is as funny and wild as the description promises. My thoughts while reading it were reminiscent of Schitt's Creek, and that added a lot of fun to the story.

The characters were decently well developed and each had their own traits, qualities, and personalities that made them distinct from each other. Most of them were likable - except for Jonathan. He was clearly a miserable human who completely effed everything up for people he was supposed to care about. He filled the villainous role in this book perfectly.

On the other side of the character spectrum, we have my favorite character: Dan' grandma Elsie. She was absolutely hilarious, and was just the sweetest, kindest human ever.

The two main characters, Dan and Bella were interesting to say the least. Bella started out as a clearly spoiled princess type who was used to dropping thousands of dollars a month on designer clothes and handbags. Dan is a bit brusque when we first meet him but learning about his history helps explain that. By the end of the book Bella definitely had the most change about her. She slowly learned, while living in Toxteth (a neighborhood in Liverpool), that life as she knew it was very, very privileged. She had her eyes opened to a lot of the injustice in her own city, and was at first shocked at how many unhoused people there were in her own city. To say she was ignorant at the beginning of the book is an understatement. But she really does grow and change by the end of the book, and becomes a person who does a lot of good things for the people around her.

The good things about this book:
* The humor was on point. It really was a very funny book, but also handled the tough things that happened with dignity.
* The chemistry between Dan and Bella was obvious and the author built up their relationship very well.
* I learned some things about Liverpool that I never knew before - and that was nice
* There's some great plotting to take down a bad, bad man
* The characters all worked well together and had great parts to play throughout the book
* There was a great story to this book and a lot of great lessons learned by more than one character

Things I didn't really love:
* It was absolutely appalling the way Jonathan behaved during this book. Are there supervisors who willfully sabotage their friends and employees like that?!??!?!?

There really wasn't a ton a didn't like about this book. It was a fun rom-com book that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys romance and comedy in one.

This book is being released by Bookoutoure on March 21, 2022.

This was so much fun! It was a quick read and reminded me greatly of Alexis from schitt’s creek. Sometimes you want to share her but she always makes you smile. There’s tons of fun side characters, and even a mystery to solve. It’s the perfect summer romance with chemistry, funny moments while also tugging at the heartstrings.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this eARC.

♡ First of all, I love the character development in a story and Stone Broke Heiress is one of the perfect examples for this. It feels like watching Schitt's Creek again! (Have you watched it? I LOVE IT!) Anyway, I'm so proud of Bella for being strong and independent because it's not easy to get accustomed quickly to something that you're not used to. She's so fun to read especially when she and Dan rode the train and her cleaning stuff! On the other hand my dear Dan, the moment I read that he has a rugged look of Regé-Jean Page + Herbie, his very cute and smart pet dog! , damn, he already got me!

♡ It was slow for me at first, but when I got into the middle part, it became very interesting to me. This is a feel-good story and I really think that you would like this book too! This is a great riches to rags with an important moral to the story.

♡ I recommend this book for all readers who loves a quick light-hearted story and Schitt's Creek type-of-plot.

Where to begin? Grumpy/sunshine, very Schitt's Creek vibes, a strong sense of morality. I honestly would peg this more for contemporary fiction than romance and I think it works incredibly in that sense.

SBH starts with a throwback where Bella is dumpster diving for "goods" and honestly, the introduction hooked me immediately. Arabella Whittington has lived an extremely privileged life as the heiress to Whittington Soup. When everything is ripped out from under her, she has to figure out how to function in the actual 'real world'. I always love stories with big character growth and Dani gives us that in spades with Bella's journey. A few things felt predictable, but I didn't see the big twist coming in the third act. I loved the side characters and the way you fully feel like you're in Toxteth.

Overall, a lovely debut and I can't wait for more!

Billed as ‘ completely laugh out loud’ I stoically and grumpily approached this book pretty sure it wouldn’t be…and it wasn’t….however what it was was ‘almost completely chuckling with a few laugh out loud’s’ and you know what at this present time in the world that was just perfect 😊
The story revolves around Bella and how she goes from ‘riches’ to almost ‘rags’ and the journey of self discovery this takes her on, previously her main worry was if she had enough Louboutin’s….now her only worry is how she will cook enough soup at the soup kitchen in Toxteth she has had to get a job in
Bella is fab, I couldn’t help but adore her and her ways/thoughts and the pickles she got herself in and of course the realisation ( when it came ) of what is important in life was touching and emotive
A grand pick me up that will cheer and
please and make you think ( not uncomfortably ) about priorities and life and all with a big grin on you’re face

I really enjoyed Stone Broke Heiress from the start! It was easy to get into, and Bella was a fun heroine to follow. Danielle Owen-Jones has a talent for comedic writing, and the style of the book reminded me a little of Sophie Kinsella and other beloved rom coms of the early noughties.

Dan is immediate book boyfriend material; tattooed, "dark velvety eyes", dimples and stubble, a Scouse accent, a cute dog, and a heart of gold buried under a Bryronic exterior. Swoon, right? I only wish we'd met him a little earlier in the story; Dan and the soup kitchen only come into play at around a third of the way into the book, even though they arguably make up the main plot point of Bella's story. I also think that a bit of extra time spent with Dan and the rest of the Toxteth crew would have built out those relationships a little bit and made Bella's assimilation into her new life feel a little more natural.

But even if the pacing wasn't perfect, Stone Broke Heiress was a funny, sweet, story of self discovery and a very enjoyable read!

Thanks to Bookouture, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book. I have not been compensated for this review and am leaving it voluntarily.

I was definitely in the mood for light-hearted and fun when I picked this book up, and I got what I wanted. Bella's life is upended when she loses her job, her fiance and her family money and has to start from scratch. Throw in a very masculine love interest and a cute dog and you get a really cute story.

There are some funny moments and Bella's self-discovery is interesting to watch. That said, I didn't really feel a connection to Bella until right at the end, and while Dan was hot, the romance element between the two of them was a little weak. The other characters were a lot of fun to read about - especially Susie.

While some of the story followed predictable lines, I did think that Bella's evolution was what made this story original.

My feelings are pretty mixed upon finishing Stone Broke Heiress.
Most of the humor just seemed way over the top to me and unrealistic.
Funny moments for sure.
Light reading for sure.
Quirkiness for sure.
It was a ok read.
