Brilliant thriller what a thrilling fast paced edge of your seat read it kept guessing right until the end this is definitely worth a read
Another excellent psychological thriller from this author. The story is told from multiple perspectives. All the characters are very well developed. There is a lot of tension.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. Unfortunately since requesting the book, my reading tastes have changed and it would be unfair to review this book as I do not think I could give it the review that would be justified
The stepchild is a great domestic thriller. Packed with twists and turns . This is one which will have you reading until the early hours because you won’t be able to put it down, just like me.
I've read a lot of missing child books but this one managed to add something different that sets it apart. Really compelling and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout;.
Another fantastic read from Ncole Trope. A great storyline that gets you hooked from the first page. A fast paced thriller with some twists and turns. Really enjoyed it and its definitely well recommend.
Thank you Netgalley.
Very good keep me interested the whole way threw the book , cleverly written, would definitely read this authors work again and would recommend to others.
The Stepchild by Nicole Trope is an excellent novel that keeps the reader guessing to the very last page. Shelby, a twelve year old is left to babysit her three year old step sister when the three year “runs away”. Did she really run away or did something else happen? Where is she? The mother and father panic and as each hour goes by hope that she will be found alive diminishes. This is a novel that I was up until 130 am reading. It was that good! Thank you to NetGalley, Nicole Trope , and bookouture for allowing me to read this entertaining and thought provoking novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.
That didn’t appeal much to me. Such a letdown.
Thanks to Netgalley! Hoping for a better read next time!
A gripping psychological thriller.....you have a step daughter you trust or can you? Your own child goes missing. Blood is thicker than water, the step daughters story alters when questioned....who do you believe? Get this book!

I read every Nicole Trope book the instant I get my hands on it! WOW, this sucked me in on page 1 and that rarely happens. I let myself get into the story and don't think too much ahead. I mean I'm very rarely right about what's going to happen anyway but I definitely didn't see this ending coming! I highly recommend Nicole Trope books for psychological thriller fans. They're super fast reads!
Millie has gone missing. But who is at fault. Shelby her teenage step sister who was asked to look after her. Or her mother who went out leaving her with Shelby. Will Millie be found alive and who is responsible. A father brought into the fray with allegations about him.
An interesting read which brings up many emotions. Told from differing points of view.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC.
Oh how I LOVED this storyline! The suspense, I enjoyed it and really loved the characters. The story was very original.
What begins as an ordinary day turns into a family’s worst nightmare when three year old Millie disappears into thin air. Compulsively addicting, this fast paced, suspense filled psychological thriller is told from the POV of Shelby, Lesley and Ruth and is jam packed with secrets, lies and crazy twists and turns that will keep you flipping through the pages all through the night.
This was my first time reading this author but won’t be my last. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of The Stepchild. Opinions expressed are my own.
The story is excellent and told by 3 different characters. You have many emotions raised and connect with the characters. Lots of tension in this book. You are taken different ways to find out who it really is. The ending is a big shock.
Beautiful. Poignant. So so well written.. Loved this one so much. An absolutely enthralling tale from a very accomplished storyteller.
" A SECRET KEPT IS A SECRET YOU'LL LIVE TO REGRET"
Now if you love a mystery, love a puzzle then this is the book for you!
Based around six characters:
* MIllie the 3 year old girl who goes missing
* Leonie who is Millies mum and Randall's ex wife
* Randall who is Millies Dad and also Dad to Shelby
* Bianca who is Randall's new wife, Mum to Shelby and Millies step mum
* Shelby who is Millies 12 year old stepsister and was babysitting her sister when she went missing
* Ruth a hoarder who doesn't leave her home who loves close by
The story is told in alternating chapters from the POVs of Leonie, Shelby and Ruth. The author has expertly crafted it so that with each chapter and POV a little clue is given each time to bring everything together like a perfect puzzle.
A story full of mysteries, secrets and lies that need to unravel to find Millie.
This is a book that instills fear, athe plot is a parents worse nightmare so as soon as you get into the storyline you cant help but put yourself in that position and start feeling the acute fear that these characters would be feeling.
A well executed plot with a host of characters that each hold their own in this complex puzzle of a tale.
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
This book was totally not what I was expecting it to be - it was richer in issues that I don’t often see in thrillers… layers of trauma and response to trauma, and overlapping storylines that made me gasp just enough. I thought the author did a nice job of detailing trauma response and as sad as it was, I didn’t feel it was included as an added glorification or plot twist, but rather to bring attention to it, maybe even educate about it.
The story was a good thriller that I enjoyed and felt like was a nice and easy read. I grew attached to the characters and tried to figure out the truth, but found myself wondering along with them.
A good read, I’d recommend if you are comfortable reading about response to and surviving trauma.
Nicole Trope's latest release, The Stepchild, is a psychological mystery involving a missing 3 year-old girl named Millie. Shelby, Millie's 12 year old half- sister was supposed to watch her for a couple hours on a weekend morning. All is well until Shelby calls her stepmother with the dreaded news that Millie is missing. Family and police frantically gather at their house waiting for news. The police and Shelby's family can tell she is hiding something. The book unfolds from different perspectives and narrations, including a woman who is a recluse with an interesting connection to the story that is unseen at first. The book is fast-paced, with many twists/red herrings and wraps up well. Readers of Nicole Trope will enjoy it-it's a solid 3.5.
Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
Love Nicole books and this one was no different, I hate coming to the end knowing I’ve got nothing else of hers to read 😭 hurry up with a new book please!!! Loved this one and blew me away!
