4.25/5⭐️

I absolutely adored this book! I’m not a huge fantasy reader, but this was definitely more rom-com than fantasy. I found the world building was super easy to follow and found it easy to understand the different supernatural entities and their powers. The romance in this book was so cute, I love Lincoln and Violet! Not the Witch You Wed is a second chance romance with fake dating. Fake dating is one of my all time favourite tropes and this book did it so well. I find sometimes in fake dating books, the reasons the characters decide to fake date is really believable. But in this, both Lincoln and Violet had reasons for entering the fake dating relationship that really made sense. I listened to the audiobook and I really liked the narrator. I felt they did a great job of telling the story and conveying the emotions the characters were feeling. Overall, this is a super cute witchy romance that I’d highly recommend. I can’t wait for the rest of the books in this series!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook copy of the book.

Paranormal enemies to lovers, with witches and shifters who fake date! I’m sold!

Violet, a magic-less witch and Lincoln, the Alpha wold shifter agree to fake-date their way to fake-mating because of some arcane supernatural laws. But they learn so much more is at stake then breaking some supernatural laws.

The relationship between these progressed in such a fantastic way, and the way magic was introduced and used in this story was perfect. I loved learning about all the characters in this book and hope that there will be more books that include all of these characters!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape media for a copy of the audiobook! This is my honest voluntary review!

This was a fun audiobook about a magic-less witch and her werewolf ex boyfriend entering a fake relationship. Violet is the oldest sister and supposed to take over as Prima, head of the witches. Unfortunately, her magic never manifested and the role has fallen to her sister, but the outdated rules of the council still decree that she find a mate. Enter Lincoln, the Alpha ex who also happens to need a mate and a plan is hatched.

I liked Violet and Lincoln as a couple, they fit well and had cute chemistry. I thought it was obvious they had something special going on, but they took a bit to realize it themselves. There are also several side characters that I enjoyed, especially Violet's sisters and grandmother. I think there may be more books in the series about the triplets finding love and I'd definitely be up to reading them.

The pacing was a bit slow and some of the drama seemed a bit pointless, just filler for the story. I also wish there had been a male narrator for Lincoln's parts. still a good paranormal romance.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the copy

Oh my hex! I can't believe I let this linger on my TBR pile as long as I did. This is a fun start of a new paranormal romance series. Violet Maxwell is the eldest of triplet witches. At 32 she is known as the Magic-less Maxwell. When she runs into her teen love and heartbreaker Lincoln Thorne magic starts to bubble from within. Lincoln’s world is busy as an Alpha shapeshifter wanting to change the old order of things. Being in a fake romance will keep the high counsel out of both their lives for a short time. If only old feelings didn't reappear.

I love the world that April Asher creates with supernaturals beings. I could easily see romances for the other two Maxwell triplets who are loving and helpful to their sister Violet. But other side characters are developed enough I would even enjoy stories for them as well. This is fun with minimal angst. There is steaminess but I was a little surprised there wasn't a bit more. Can't wait to be with these characters again.

Kudos for the cover!! It actually looks like the characters description in the book. I enjoyed the audiobook narrated by Zora Johnson. I like when you can distinguish characters by the voice or accent of the reader. I did increase the speed to 1.25 which is a personal preference. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to dreamscape media and net galley for allowing me Honest review for this arc

Magic-less witch Violet Maxwell wants nothing to do with alpha wolf shifter Lincoln Thorne—the man who broke her fragile, teenage heart. But when the two of them are forced by arcane Supernatural Laws to find mates, Violet and Lincoln agree to fake-date their way to a fake-mating in order to conjure themselves some time. The joke’s on them. When old feelings make a reappearance

I was really excited to get the opportunity to listen to this audio. I love the narrator. I give her ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Her voice is very fun and soothing and I love how she was able to be versatile in her tone and in her accents for each character. I think anyone listening to the audio will enjoy it

As for the novel itself unfortunately I’ve found that I did not like it. I found it to be a little bit juvenile even though it was a bunch of 30 year old. I might say that may be this type of book it’s just not for me. I personally think I got excited because it was a plus size representation. Which is great to have plus rep And all types of genres. I just realize that supernatural Genres may not be for me. I guess because I’m a sci-fi fan I thought this books may work for me since I have read shifter romance, Unfortunately that wasn’t the case I think the world building was lackluster, Add too many characters or introduce so I know there’s gonna be other books. Maybe I read the other bucks and might find it a bit more exciting.

But I do think it is a fun read for people who are into supernatural and a cutesy romance about two people who actually really do like each other fighting they’re like for each other while fake dating.

I wanted to like this one more than I did - I found myself more interested in the world that was created and wanted to hear more about how it worked. The arc of “…but ere just pretending, right?” felt like it went on for slightly too long, and the style of dialogue within romantic scenes varied wildly. By no means am I a prude but even some made me cringe. A similar vibe to The Ex Hex or Payback’s a Witch and it didn’t quite live up to either of those.

This is the first in the Supernatural Singles series, and my first by the author.

Violet Maxwell is the firstborn witch and should be next in line to be the Prima, but there's just one problem....she doesn't have any magic. Or does she? She's put on the spot by the magical council who want her to get herself hitched as her 'firstborn duty' but Violet has zero interest in that nonsense.

Wolf shifter and Alpha, Lincoln Thorne has also been given the 'get bonded or else' ultimatum and needs a way to buy himself more time.

Despite the fact that Linc broke Vi's heart when they were teenagers, and she hates him with the fire of one thousand suns, they end up agreeing to fake date to get the council off their backs. Of course, all that forced proximity and pretending for the cameras brings back their old feelings.

I wanted to love this one so badly. I love a witchy story, adore enemies-to-lovers and can't get enough of fake dating. Plus paranormal urban fantasy romance is right up my alley! But I just had a hard time really caring much about the story. The characters weren't bad, in fact, I found them rather likable. It had its moments, but the story was just so predictable. I didn't feel like there was enough conflict to actually make it interesting.

The audiobook narration by Zura Johnson was pretty good, but please, PLEASE, don't try to pass off a New Zealand accent as Australian. They sound SO different, and I was cringing every time the 'Australian' spoke! The audio comes in at 12 hours and 15 minutes.

Anyway, it wasn't terrible, I just had such high expectations for this book and had been really looking forward to it for months so was disappointed that it fell a bit flat for me.

I really enjoyed this book! The hierarchy was a bit confusing at first but was easy to keep track of as the book progressed. It had just enough angst to keep me interested without being frustrating. I especially love the friend group and how supportive they are of each other. I’m giving an extra 1/2⭐️ for uses of the word “shnortled”!! I thought I made that word up (if you’re wondering a “shnortle” is the sound a dachshund makes when they snore themselves awake😂😂). I love the narrator, she was a perfect fit for the characters!

DISCLAIMER: I received this book free from the NETGALLEY in exchange for an honest review.

Witchy/Wolf sparkly fun!

Magicless Violet and wolf Lincoln have quite the history growing up and it wasn't always the best relationship. Of course going into a fake relationship to bide time against having mates chosen for them, brought out a lot more than expected.

I really liked the characters in the sense that they didn't just want to go along with age old traditions (of course giving the book a more modern flair). The blossoming romance was full of fire as well, even fireworks.

I enjoyed the audiobook version of this book. The narrator seemed to help bring the excitement to the characters.

Overall a light, fun, and magical romance!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of this Audiobook for my honest review.

I enjoyed this book. Violet and Lincoln had a cute fake romance, and Asher did a fine job of developing them and their backstory. However, the book lacked the needed world-building. I was confused by how supernaturals and normal people existed together. Also, the pacing was a little off. It took a long time for Violet and Lincoln to actually begin their scheme. Even with those issues, I enjoyed this book and I would revisit another book in this series.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Here is my honest review:
Unfortunately, this book did not live up to my expectations. Within the first chapter, I was completely bored. Maybe it’s the authors writing style, maybe it was that I was not ready for this type of book, I will never know. However, I know that this book was not for me.

Not the Witch You Wed is a paranormal romance with witches, shape shifters and even a supernatural council. Violet is a witch that has no magic, despite being the first born, and thus the next in line to be on the council. Lincoln is a wolf shifter and the alpha of the shapeshifters of North America. They are both told by the council they need to marry someone soon or the council will find someone for them. They decide to pretend to be in a relationship to gain some time.

This one reads more as a romance with paranormal aspects, rather than the opposite. It has fake dating, and second chance romance. I really enjoyed reading this book, I didn't want to put it down! FILLED with wolf puns, and other humor, it was fun and funny to read cover to cover. It wasn't the most unpredictable book to read, but I don't find predictability to be an issue for romance books.

A lot of times in second chance romances from teenage years, I find the reason for why one character still is angry at the other one to be exaggerated. But in this one I was actually fully on board. I understood why she was hesitant to trust him again, and I liked that the event from the past wasn't dragged out throughout the whole book. It does come up again, but in ways that seem to make sense rather than just to generate drama.

Violet is a great main character, she's funny and strong, she speaks her mind and stands up for herself. I really liked that this was a dual POV. I always appreciate seeing both perspectives in romances, and Lincoln was another great main character. He's quite an idealist, but it works well, especially in this book. He stood for what's right. And despite being a literal alpha, there was no alphahole-ness here!

I also really liked their romance. I loved their banter, their chemistry, how much they clearly cared for one another despite the time and circumstances. I just love an us against the world love story, and this was pretty close as so many were questioning the real-ness of their relationship.

Other than the main characters, Violet's family and friends were (almost) all such great characters. Her two sisters were always there for her, doing their best to help her out. Her grandmother always the source of such wisdom. Her two best friends, one a total fan of Violet's romance the other hesitant and guarded.

I was at times confused by the world building, or what exactly was going on but this only impacted my enjoyment a little. Possibly helped by the fact that I was listening to an audiobook, I didn't have much time to dwell on the parts I was confused by.

I'm glad this will be a series, I'll be reading the next book, especially since I loved all the side characters!

I read this as an audiobook, narrated by Zura Johnson, and I thought it was very well narrated.

I received the ALC for this book from Dreamscape Media and NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinions.

If you are someone who loves supernatural characters, this book is a must. I love how the plot had witches, wolves, and vampires. The triplets were such fun witches, and I enjoyed Violet and Lincoln's enemy to lover trope. Lincoln being a wolf shifter added some fun layers to their story as well. The epilogue left us with our next story line, so I assume there will be a book per sister!

Considering that the audiobook is over 12 hours long, I expected that this book would really dig into the various elements - worldbuilding, romance, magic lessons, etc. - that were brought up in the synopsis. In the end, I felt like Asher introduced all of these exciting aspects only to not really flesh out all of them. This is a world where supernatural beings like demons, angels, and shifters live among normal people and I left the book with barely any understanding of what that particular world looks like. Why even make that distinction if you are only going to focus on the supernatural community? To be fair, I still have questions about how everything in the supernatural community works despite the fact that a major plotline has to do with the politics between the different groups. Since this is clearly supposed to be a series, it would have been nice to buckle down on defining what this world is to really set up the future installments.

Without a firm grasp on the world in which this story takes place, my enjoyment of the actual plot ended up suffering. The amount of scenes where magic (on Violet's end) and shifting (on Lincoln's end) are so minimal in the grand scheme of things that this almost rendered the entire paranormal aspect of the book unnecessary. The romance between them was decent, if a little predictable in the way that it resolved. To me, the side characters were far more interesting than our main couple and they are the main reason that I would consider continuing on with this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review!

I really enjoyed this book. I finished it in one day, I love the twists and turns the book took though out. I can't wait for the next book.

This book was exactly the witty, witchy read I was looking for! Packed with magic and romance, sparks were literally flying from beginning to end.

Violet Maxwell, otherwise known as Magicless Maxwell, is the Firstborn of the only triad of witches left in the world. A lot was expected of her, but the world saw her as a “dud” as she had never displayed even an ounce of magic. Until she reunites with Lincoln Thorne, who helps her recognize her inner beauty and magic.. Violet may be unconventional, but she uses her wit, intelligence, and power to prove that there's a new witch in town.

What I love about this story is the power of being lost in another world. I learned the author is a fellow nurse and wrote this during the pandemic, which gave me an increased appreciation for the escape it provided. Also, I love that the main character is a bold, beautiful, and confident woman with a sexy, curvy body and finds a man who loved and appreciates her for who she is and how beautiful she is inside and out. The writing was fun, witty, and definitely kept me entertained and wanting more - I am so glad this is listed as #1 in a series!

Thank you so much for an advance listener copy in exchange for an honest review!

Spells Hells. This book was great!

I was hooked the moment I started reading it. I loved the while premise behind the story and really started rooting for a happy ever after!

The whole story line was amazingly done, however I do feel as though the ending was a lottle predictable. Still worth the read.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced copy.

Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher
Contemporary paranormal romantic comedy.
Violet is the oldest of the triplets witches of the Maxwell family. She’s called The Dud, by the press because she is apparently without Magic. When the Elder Counsel tells Lincoln he must comply with their rules, he and Violet team up to fake a relationship. Of course, they have history and unpredictable magic and family to muck things up along the journey.

Filled with humor, sass and a flirty werewolf. And charity both in person and financially. 🥰
I loved Vi’s determination in figuring out her magic and even more, the sisters and BFF support. Multiple wins and happy resolutions.

🎧 I listened to a audiobook version after reading an ecopy. The audiobook is narrated by Zora Johnson who performs with a wide range of nuance to the various main characters. Emotions were clear and carries the reader through the frustration, the joy and heartbreak spot on. It did read quite slow for me in dialect. I moved the speed up a couple of times and ended with 1.5 as the best conversational pace.

I received a copy of both an ebook and audiobook from NetGalley, SMP, and Dreamscape Media.

I’m not entirely sure how to feel about the trend of witchy romances that have seemed to be popping up in the genre recently. As a concept it seems fun, which is I picked up Not the Witch You Wed - pitched as a second-chance romance for a pair of fated mates. However, I’ve yet to really ever enjoy one of these, which may have been a red flag for this love story between a witch and a shift that I should have minded.

Our main character Violet is a witch without magic and plus-sized female lead that enters into a fake-dating arrangement with the man that she believes abandoned her over a decade ago when they were both teenagers. I’m a hard sell on second chance romance, but her love interest Lincoln had a legitimate reason for ending their relationship years prior - which I do respect the author for being able to establish. It’s a setup that wasn't filled with tropes I tend to enjoy, but still had a lot to work with. So what went wrong here?

What detracted most from my enjoyment of this novel was the baffling use of dialogue that felt like it was written by a young teenager trying to speak like an adult. Violet’s inner monologue was painful to listen to at times because of this, as were her conversations with the people around her that I never could quite believe were in their 30s. There was also a gratuitous use of tropes that seemed to be written in for plot convenience and not adapted for the story itself. For example, there is a scene where a woman who was clearly designed to be the pinnacle of superficial socialite physically “clutches her pearls” at something Violet says in a fancy restaurant standoff. And this line is played completely straight. No irony at all. If you’re going to drop overused lines like this in your writing, it needs to be addressed, or played with, or somehow acknowledged as the cliché that it is. And this isn’t a one-off event either.

I think if I were to continue in this series, it is only for the bookish youngest triplet of the three sisters - Olive. Despite having the most basic of romance heroine names, the hints at her future romance with Violet’s tattooed angel best friend was somehow a more interesting dynamic than the hours I spent with Lincoln and Violet herself.

In the end, if you are looking for plus-size rep in a witch/shifter paranormal romance, Not the Witch You Wed does fit that bill. But I just couldn’t get past the infantile attitude of the main leads and unintentionally hilarious dialogue that occurred not only between them, but across the many characters minor and major that appeared in these pages. This book was personally a miss for me, but fans of second-chance romance may still find some magic in it.
