Move Fatal Code by Natalie Walters up to the top spot on your TBR list and thank me later. I’ve enjoyed the whole SNAP Agency series, from the prequel novel Initium to Lights Out. But Fatal Code might just be my new favorite.
This story centers around Kekoa Young. He’s a cryptologist but gets sent undercover to find out more information about Elinor Mitchell. It looks like she might be selling classified information, but Kekoa discovers there’s a lot more to Elinor, and that she couldn’t possibly be one of the bad guys.
I loved this story from start to finish. Definitely a great pick for suspense fans. The plot flows like a high-tech thriller, with plenty of action to keep the readers flipping pages. But this story has a great blend of humor, suspense and romance. Kekoa makes an intriguing character with his Hawaiian roots and his larger-than-life personality. Kekoa faces off against all sorts of danger, but also deals with some tragedies from his past. Elinor hides behind her work, trying to uncover the mystery of her grandfather’s notebooks filled with secret codes. But all bets are off when she meets Kekoa who works his way into her heart.
Definitely check out Fatal Code when it releases May 3rd! You won’t want to miss this one (and you don’t have to read the other books in the series to dive into Fatal Code, but I highly recommend them.)
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Okay, I was SO excited for Kekoa’s story after reading Initium and Lights Out and I was NOT disappointed!!!
In fact, it was even better than I expected!!! The fast-paced action and unpredictable plot completely lived up to the high standard that Lights Out had set & the characters, wow! I expected Kekoa to be a fun and complex character from what we had seen of him already, and he totally lived up to expectations! Such a fun character! But I wasn’t expecting his back story to be as complex as it was and it added so much depth to his character. And I personally resonated SO much with his story, which I won’t reveal here, because SPOILERS, but what I will say is that Kekoa and I had a similar thing happen to us/our family and reading his journey was so beautiful! It did make me cry, but it was also cathartic and healing.
Honestly, as far as romantic suspense goes, this series is one of the best!! Loved it SO much!
Thank you so much @netgalley and @revellbooks for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
WOW! I simply could not put it down. Kekoa and Elinor came right off the pages. I loved the vulnerability that both of these characters showed in the loss of someone they deeply loved and the sometimes breath stealing grief it brings. The action was enough that you can’t help but be on the edge of your seat. I love the nerdy science humor that Elinor brings and her quirky shirts. The reveal of the person behind the crime that endangers Elinor’s life is surprising. The reminder throughout the book that “His eye on the sparrow” is refreshing and one that I tend to forget at times. And we get to catch and visit with the other agents in SNAP. Great job Natalie!!! I can not wait for book 3.
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. These thoughts are mine and mine alone.
Another wonderful romantic suspense novel by Natalie Walters. I love the friendship between the members of the SNAP team, especially Kekoa. Ever since I met him in book 1, I was looking forward to his story and Natalie Walters did not disappoint.
If you enjoy reading romantic suspense, definitely give this book a try.
I received a complimentary copy of the book by the publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Kekoa and Elinor were characters that came to life in my mind. I love this government suspense type books. Kekoa kept thinking that he is just a computer guy but he proves in the end that he is way more.
"Your courage comes not from a name, but by the way you live the life God sets before you. It requires us to stake everything we believe, to surrender our lives, on our faith in God."
The SNAP Agency is fast becoming one of my favorite group of crime-fighting geniuses. I fell in love with Natalie Walters' writing with the first book in the series and this follow up confirms her placement in my favorite suspense author category. Nail-biting suspense is perfectly paired with an unlikely romance between two fascinating characters. The solid faith thread creates a deeper layer to the awesome plot that has twists and turns and possible villains around every corner. If you enjoy romantic suspense, you don't want to miss this book by Natalie Walters.
I loved Kekoa's big teddy bear self with easy-going personality but also loved that his past regrets and grief came to light in this book to show us the real Kekoa. His snarky banter with Lyla, one of his colleagues, is always fun and witty. His cute, sweet, and often awkward interaction with Elinor was heart-warming and lovely. Elinor is different from Kekoa but shares the same grief of losing a dearly loved one and is inexplicably drawn to him. In the midst of betrayals, confusion, and attacks from multiple angles, Elinor works with Kekoa and SNAP to solve the riddle that's connected to long-buried secrets.
I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All comments are my own.
"Fatal Code" is a Christian romantic suspense/mystery. This is the second book in a series, but it works as a stand alone and didn't spoil events from the previous novel.
The characters reacted realistically to events and came across as real people with genuine struggles. Kekoa wasn't able to protect his little brother and has never forgiven himself. When it's clear that Elinor's in danger, he's terrified that he won't be able to protect her, either, especially since he's a computer expert, not a warrior. As Kekoa and Elinor spent time together, they became friends and cared about each other. They shared interests and supported each other. The suspense came from lots of different people wanting the plans and program codes that Elinor possessed and their willingness to hurt and kill to get them.
Kekoa needed to release his feelings of guilt, accept forgiveness, and trust God was in control. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.
Natalie Walters once again provides a gripping, page-turning romantic suspense with her latest release Fatal Code.
I have been a fan of Natalie Walters since I read Living Lies. She will forever be an auto-read author for me, so of course, I jumped at the chance to read Fatal Code.
Walters doesn’t skimp on suspense, jumping right into it as soon as the novel begins. But she also includes these really sweet moments between Elinor and Kekoa that add to the romance. I loved the peeks into Kekoa’s heritage, especially since I’ve never been to Hawaii.
Walters also adds plenty of plot twists that kept me guessing! And she includes a great faith arc about trusting God.
While Fatal Code is a sequel, it can be read as a standalone. But if you haven’t read Lights Out yet, I highly recommend it.
A gripping novel of suspense! I was hooked from the first page and read it in one sitting! I couldn't put it down!
- can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading the series in order.
I received an ARC through Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
"Fatal Code" by Natalie Walters is the second book in the SNAP Agency series. This book is as good as the first, if not better. There was plenty of action and mystery, along with some romantic tension thrown in. I was very impressed with the author's knowledge/research in this novel. This book had me guessing until the end. There was a twist that I never saw coming! I highly recommend this book, along with all of Natalie Walter's books.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Fatal Code is the second book in the Snap Agency series by Natalie Walters. It works well as a standalone.
I was completely caught up in this multilayered book that contains an intriguing plot and a bit of romance. The characterization was outstanding; the author did an excellent job of breathing life into the people involved, and had them face circumstances that were difficult. Their personalities and close relationships were shown through their actions and words.
The plot kept me on my toes throughout the book. The story is a roller-coaster ride through the story with scenes that kept me flipping through pages. I didn't want to put the book down!; it's been a while since I read a book that captivated me this much.
I feel this book definitely deserves a five star rating.
The space race meets Los Alamos meets pseudocode in this modern faith-based thriller. Theoretical physicist, retired Iowa State professor, and grandfather of Elinor Mitchell has died - the book opens with his funeral. Unbeknownst to Elinor Mitchell, her grandfather has left behind the secrets to a decade old, unfinished, experiment from Los Alamos NM. Elinor had her own secret projects as well. And there were Russian, Chinese, and Industrial spies willing to kill for both.
Into the middle of this steps Kekoa Young, an Hawaiian cyber-expert working with SNAP, a defense contractor assigned to monitor the deepest secrets within the US and other Western governments. His current assignment is to build a relationship with Elinor to determine her commitment to the secrets she has access to - and the evidence suggests she is not as committed as she needs to be.
While most of the story takes place along the streets and areas around Washington DC, the story ends with a distant trip to Hawaii. It will be a difficult journey from the streets of the nation’s capital to the beaches of Hawaii - one that will threaten the lives of both Elinor and Keoka as well as their colleagues.
The book provided the suspense and thrills needed for a few Spring evenings. It deserves the five-star review I am giving it.

Another great romantic suspense novel from Natalie Walters! This is book 2 in the SNAP Agency series. While the story itself could stand alone, I would recommend reading the prequel novella Initium and the first book Lights Out before reading this one in order to better understand what the Agency does and get some introduction into the characters. You'll be able to enjoy this story without that, but you'll enjoy it more with that history. This book follows computer genius Kekoa Young of SNAP and his neighbor Elinor Mitchell, who is a genius in her own right. She's working on a billion dollar project and is under suspicion for leaking company secrets. Kekoa is tasked with keeping an eye on her, but can he keep her safe and prove she's not a traitor without her finding out he's keeping tabs on her and without completely falling for her?
I enjoyed the character development in this book. Kekoa has been a side character in a couple of Ms. Walters' books and it was good to get to know him better. As for Elinor, the book opens at her grandfather's funeral, and the grief that she experiences was definitely relatable. I enjoyed her quirky nerdiness and punny t-shirts and stupid science jokes. In addition to the characters, I also enjoyed the story line a great deal. This one had me turning pages to see what happened next and I didn't figure out the main "bad guy" until it was exposed at the end. The romance element of a romantic suspense is usually my least favorite element, but this one had a nice slow burn throughout, which I thoroughly enjoyed. And I literally laughed out loud at some of the goofy jokes that they bantered with. The faith thread was light in the first 2/3 of this book, but picked up serious steam in the last third as Kekoa comes to terms with elements from his past that needed to be placed in the hands of the Father, and I enjoyed that this element built throughout as well, making it feel more natural. All in all, this was an excellent romantic suspense novel, and I'd strongly recommend to fans of that genre.
Special thanks to the author and publisher for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
I have found a new romantic suspense author and I am HERE FOR IT! I am such a huge fan of romantic suspense that the more amazing authors I can find who write in that genre the better!!
I was immediately immersed back into the SNAP agency and all of it's wonderful characters and interesting dynamics. If SNAP were real I would really be dying to take a tour. I love the descriptions of this setting!!
I was hoping Kekoa's story would be next and was so excited to see that this book was about him!! I loved the chemistry right from the beginning with Kekoa and Elinor. I love how they both had to see their strengths and weaknesses through each other. The romance was swoony. The suspense and political intrigue was fast paced and held my attention late into the night when I had to stay up reading to see how it would end.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book!
I'm anxiously awaiting book 3!!!
Aerospace engineer Elinor Mitchell is brilliant, nerdy, and totally focused on getting her prospective space defense project ready for the committee. What Elinor doesn't realize is that her grandfather's past work on nuclear energy puts her in the crosshairs of foreign agents. SNAP agent and former Navy cryptologist Kekoa Young is intrigued by his new neighbor, but he doesn't want to monitor her for the agency. Someone from her company is leaking secrets and Elinor is one of the suspects. Kekoa doesn't believe she would do that. I received a free copy from the publisher. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I love this Christian romantic suspense mystery. This book kept me guessing until the end about who the villains are. The story is very suspenseful with threats coming from every side. I love Kekoa and Elinor who are perfect together. Sparks fly between them both mentally and physically. Kekoa's Hawaiian background adds to the story even though I found myself googling Hawaiian slang. This is a terrific read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
“Fatal Code” by Natalie Walters is book 2 of The SNAP Agency series and it is fabulous!
Kekoa Young is a cryptologist tasked to keep an eye on Elinor Mitchell, an aerospace engineer believed to be selling top-secret designs.
I adored Kekoa. His humor, his zest for fun, his vulnerability. Scenes with a certain family member brought me to tears.
I also loved Elinor and her science-nerd jokes and her T-shirts. I had compassion for her loss, admiration for her intelligence.
Both Kekoa and Elinor deal with grief, showing us how it can shape us if we don’t let go and give it to GOD.
While Ms. Walters created wonderful characters, I am amazed at her ability to create complex storylines. The plot is believable, with twists that I surely did not see coming.
“Fatal Code” is more than a 5-star read!
This is the third book I've read in this series. The first being the prequel, Initium. And all of the SNAP Agency books are wonderful. There is just enough edge-of-your-seat action but not over-the-edge.
I love that the faith message is always there and feels genuine.
The characters are wonderful and unique. And I never could figure out the bad guy. The book deals with family, loss, grief and of course romance.
I would recommend it unreservedly.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read it. The opinions are entirely my own.
I absolutely loved Fatal Code! I had been looking forward to learning more about Kekoa and his background, while getting to revisit other SNAP agency members. You will love getting to know Kekoa and Elinor and the mystery surrounding her grandfather. This book had it all: non-stop action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and a bit of romance and humor that made it the perfect blend. I have read every book by Natalie Walters and each one exceeds my expectations. I really can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Fatal Code by Natalie Walters is the second book in her SNAP agency series and this one features computer wiz and former Navy cryptologist Kekoa Young. He is tasked with the surveillance of his beautiful aerospace engineer neighbor, Elinor Mitchell. She has been flagged with possible links of sensitive information from her deceased grandfather and is in serious danger from other countries willing to kill to get it.
Walters pens another page turning suspense with very likeable characters. When I read the first book, Lights Out, I knew I would love Kekoa's story because he is such a fun loving character, and it did not disappoint. His romantic interest is perfect for him. This book has plenty of action, suspense, wit, and romance. This story can be read as a stand alone, however, I would recommend reading them in order to get the full effect. You'd be so glad you did.
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
Natalie Walters has become one of my all time favorite authors, and Fatal Code was a wonderful reminder as to why this is. I was really looking forward to reading Kekoa's story, and I actually ended up loving this one even more than I did the first book in the series.
Full of action, adventure, and suspense, and rounded out with a beautifully developed romance, and a well crafted mystery, this was one that I didn't want to put down, and it honestly kept me guessing right until the end. I love how this author always gives the readers characters that are both endearing and realistic, and the team dynamic in this series is definitely one of my favorite parts.
While the faith element is never over the top in Natalie Walters' stories, it always plays an important part, and I especially loved how it was all wrapped into the main female protagonist (Elinor's) childhood nickname. I also appreciated the fact that although Kekoa was kind of the comedic relief character in the first title, we definitely get to see a deeper side of him in this one, and he's definitely one of my favorite book characters of the year.
All in all, Fatal Code is a thrilling, faith based page turner that was everything I was hoping for and more. I hadn't pieced together who the mastermind villain was by the end of the story, and I love how often that's the case with this author's books. I've become a lifelong fan of her wonderful suspense reads, and I can't wait to continue to follow along on her future writing endeavors.
Final Rating: 5/5.
I can't possibly recommend this one enough.
Thanks so much to Revell for allowing me to read and review this one!
