Critical Alliance is book 3 in Elizabeth Goddard's Rocky Mountain Courage series, and it finishes out the series nicely. Although we get to hang out some with the characters from other books, this book mainly features Mackenzie, a former cybercriminal who is trying to help her sister save their family's company, and Alex, a special agent who is in Montana with family after a difficult mission. They have great interaction...even if they aren't quite as open with each other at the beginning....until there's no choice but to work together closely and honestly.
Critical Alliance is a fast-paced, page-turning Christain romantic suspense. There's danger, intrigue, cyber criminals, interesting characters, and an intriguing storyline. It's scary to think some of the cyber crimes mentioned could actually happen.
I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
Many thanks to Revell and NetGalley for advance copies of this book (both ebook and trade size paperback). My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goddard starts right off with a complex mystery event. From there the danger, action, and suspense never stops. Mackenzie Hanson's life, family and family tech company seem to be at the heart of this story. However, it’s a complex plot that will keep you reading.
Diplomatic Security Services special agent Alex Knight has return to Montana, finding a monument vandalized. At the beginning of this scene, you wonder what this has to do with Mackenzie’s situation. It is not long before the two are working together. This is one story that brings danger in the cyber world to the forefront. Plenty of suspects that make it difficult to solve but enjoyed going with Alex and Makenzie to do just that.
Critical Alliance is third in the series. Haven’t read book one yet but found this to be a compelling read on its own. Excellent book that I can highly recommend.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.
** “Sometimes the door God opened for a person to walk through had more to do with the greater good.” **
Elizabeth Goddard concludes her Rocky Mountain Courage series with the incredible “Critical Alliance.”
When someone from Mackenzie Hanson’s past gives her a warning message, she quickly returns home to her estranged family and their technology business. But when devastating occurrences happen, she reconnects with Alex Knight, a Diplomatic Security Services agent, to determine who is trying to bring harm to Mackenzie and her family.
As they move closer to revealing the true culprit, they also move closer in their feelings for one another. Can they overcome past mistakes each has made to find they can trust themselves in a new relationship — all while finding an evil person from her past?
Goddard once again does a great job of developing a plot filled with twists and turns that will leave the reader guessing until the very end. She also creates characters that are very real, with relatable flaws and issues.
“Critical Alliance” is also filled with several great themes, like trust; overcoming failures, mistakes, guilt and shame; the need to forgive one’s self; and God is instrumental in forming our paths (“I’m glad I was here in town when you needed such specialized help. You know, maybe God is behind me being here at just the right time”).
Fans of authors like Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason and Terri Blackstock will love this book.
Five stars out of five.
Revell provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.
This is Alex Knight and Mackenzie Hanson’s story. Alex is with the Diplomatic Security Services and is home to recover. He is shocked to see Mackenzie Hanson, why has she returned? Years ago, Mackenzie was warned by her family never to return, it isn’t safe, buy yet here she is. Mackenzie is a cybersecurity expert and returns to find her brother dead and her sister continuing to warn her that she isn’t safe. Alex’s father, along with two others, died in a plane crash during a rescue attempt and the memorial to them has been vandalized, why? They don’t believe this was just an act of vandalism. When Mackenzie’s father’s business is targeted, will they find the cybercriminal before it is too late? I had not read the first two books in this series. Although the author did an excellent job of providing the back story, I feel I missed too much about the previous characters, but enjoyed the intrigue and suspense. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
This is probably my favorite book of the series!! MacKenzie and Alex's story will have you on the edge of your seats. I know it did for me. I loved the cybersecurity aspect of the book and felt like I learned a bunch about the topic. Goddard does an amazing job of weaving the plot together, making this the perfect suspense.
I received a complimentary copy for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own
4.5 stars
I loved this book! Non-stop action from the very beginning and I loved learning about Alex’s and Mackenzie’s background stories. This books had 2 mysteries happening at the same time that I really enjoyed and the ending was shocking. Overall, probably my favorite of the series. Highly recommend if you like romantic suspense!
Critical Alliance is a well-written romantic suspense novel. The main characters have interesting back stories that make their actions believable. I found Alex and Mackenzie to both be very likable. The dialogue seemed natural for the characters and the situations that they were in. I was happy to see them get their HEA. The plot is tight and twisty, and I really didn't see the end coming like it did. There is nail-biting action.
This is a book that you need to be prepared for--snacks and beverages close by and nothing on your schedule to interrupt your reading. There's just not a good place to stop until you reach The End.
I would recommend this to clean/wholesome romantic suspense readers. I would definitely read more by Elizabeth Goddard.
I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this exciting book.
Mackenzie Hanson has a criminal past that no matter what she does, she cannot seem to escape it. Coming to face her failures and allowing the Lord to help her make what was a bad situation and use it for the good was what I enjoyed most about the book.
The romantic interest, the action and the revealing of the villain made this a great third book in the Mountain Courage series. I have to say that I really did think the bad guy was someone else, so it was fun to be surprised at who was the enemy, Nebulous 2.0. If you are a fan of inspirational romantic suspense stories, then you will really like this book and the entire series.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
A thrilling, fast paced adventure into the world of cybersecurity that will leave you on the end of your seat with heart pounding danger and swoon worthy romance. It is set in the beautiful mountains of Montana with breathtaking views and waterfalls adding to the mystery of the story. Full of unexpected twists to leave the reader guessing who is the mastermind causing all the danger, keeping you captured from the first sentence until the last.
Makenzie discovers her youthful mistakes of cybercrimes have come back to haunt her and placed her family in danger. Unsure who she can trust, she runs into DSS Agent Alex Knight whom she briefly connected with a few years ago. Though Alex is supposed to be taking a break from his duties, he cannot resist getting involved with Makenzie. Together, they must race against time to uncover the truth behind the danger chasing them both in the physical and cyberspace.
An excellent ending to a fantastic series! It checks all the boxes of suspense, danger, and romance to keep the reader coming back for more.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.
I’m a mood reader and honestly I wasn’t in the mood to read this book, but I knew I needed to because the release day was coming very quickly. But I was quickly drawn into the story and ended up loving it. A sign of a great book.
I have always enjoyed romantic suspense and when I discovered Elizabeth Goddard a few years ago, she quickly became a favourite author of mine. I love the way she writes the suspense stories. There are so many twists and turns and it is never overly predictable, which I love. Of course, the romance part is also fun and well written.
If you haven’t read anything by Elizabeth Goddard, I’d definitely recommend starting with the first book in this series. Yes, Critical Alliance is mostly a standalone book, but there is at least one continuous plot line that runs through the series. So I believe you will enjoy the books more if read in orde
This is the third and final story of the Rocky Mountain Courage series. Three friends who lost a parent in a SAR event fifteen years ago are featured in the series. In Critical Alliance, we get Alex Knight's story. His father died in the rescue attempt along with others on a Montana mountain. Alex works with the Diplomatic Security Service as a special agent and is on vacation after a tragic incident overseas. A monument on the mountain has been vandalized and Alex is working on finding out who is responsible. While home, he comes into contact with Mackenzie Hanson. Mackenzie is a cybersecurity professor who applied for a position at DSS a few years ago but wasn't offered a job. She is back in Montana after receiving a warning that someone was after her family's tech company. The two work together to try to find who is after Mackenzie, her family, and the company. There is plenty of danger, action, and suspense to find out who is working to destroy Mackenzie and there are lots of possible suspects. Mackenzie and Alex are attracted to each other, but will they get together? There are some family issues going on in the background with Alex, with a surprise event. I recommend this story and the series for those who enjoy suspense with a thread of romance and faith intertwined.
I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goddard is the third book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. What a suspenseful story! Mackenzie Hanson is a professor of cybersecurity in Michigan who heads home to Montana over summer break. Her family's business, Hanotech, deals with drones. But something is not right there. While there Mackenzie runs into the guy she met in DC when applying for a government job. Together they set out to fix the problems. The pacing of this storyline is great. I found this to be a real page-turner and enjoyed this book.
This book was so good! I was drawn in from the very beginning and felt hooked the entire time. Through every twist and turn, I felt like I was in the story.
These characters felt so real, and the kind of people I wish I knew in real life.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
Critical Alliance, the third in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, is fast-paced and intense. A suspicious death, gunshots, a cryptic note warning of danger - just a few of the reasons it was hard to put this one down!
The main characters are McKenzie Hanson, a professor of cyber security, and Alex Night, a member of the Diplomatic Security Corps. They had met briefly some years ago, and now find themselves working together. Each of them has some issues in their past that they have come back to Montana to resolve. However they must face a complex mystery and lethal threats as they work to protect McKenzie.
Elizabeth Goddard is an excellent story teller, and this is no exception. Although it is the third in the series, it can easily be read on its own. The characters are interesting, the story-line fast-paced and intense, and cyber crime adds an interesting element, making it almost as though it were pulled off the pages of today’s newspaper.
Elizabeth Goddard has mastered the art of Christian Romantic Suspense. The suspense is intense. There is a gentle thread of faith woven throughout, and although the romance balances the intensity.
A powerful story line, well written, with interesting characters, and an intensity that makes it hard to put this one down. Definitely 5 stars from me!
I received an advance copy courtesy of Revell through Net Galley and Interviews & Reviews with no obligation to give a positive review. The opinions are my own.
This is a well-researched book that delves into the dark world of cybercriminals and also informed me of how much harm a cyber attack can actually do. Part of the Rocky Mountain Courage series, this one knocked it out of the park with suspense from the very beginning until the end. I liked the picturesque setting in Montana and all of the ways that the setting was used so well for the non-stop action. I particularly enjoyed the low-key romance developing between Alex and Mackenzie. They were so busy concentrating on finding and stopping the cyber attack that they barely had time to acknowledge each other’s feelings, but they were definitely attracted to each other. That is my kind of love story, simmering on the back burner until one day it catches on fire. The plot was complicated and very well told so that it was understandable in spite of the fact that it dealt with some really complex issues in the cyber world. I really enjoyed meeting the characters from the previous books in the series again as they were called in to help Alex safeguard Mackenzie and capture the criminal. I was not able to guess who the bad guy was, and I do love a book that keeps me guessing until the big reveal. Fans of romantic suspense, with the emphasis on suspense, will enjoy this final book in the trilogy and, like me, will look forward to the next book from this talented author.

A warning from her past sends Mackenzie back to Montana to warn her family. Diplomatic Security Services special agent Alex Knight is back in Montana for a vacation and to catchup with family after a mission gone wrong. When Alex realizes that Mackenzie is in danger, he agrees to help protect her. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a very suspenseful story dealing with cyber and physical danger to them. Mackenzie is a very intriguing character with a darker past that impacts her present. Alex is a little too good to be true as he is always there for Mackenzie even when she resists his help. Overall, this is a very good romantic suspense book. The story captured my attention and kept me riveted until I finished it,
Critical Alliance is a modern-day thriller written by Elizabeth Goddard. It is book three in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, but you do not have to have read the previous books in order to read this one.
Summary: Mackenzie Hanson’s mistakes still haunt her. If only she had done things differently, and not ruined her family relationships and a future in law enforcement. She just wants to get past it all and move forward.
But when a ghost from the past delivers a warning, Mackenzie knows she must do anything in her power to save her family-regardless of what they think of her.
Will she be in time to stop disaster, or will her past destroy her future forever?
My Thoughts: This book was OK. I liked the plot and the characters, and there was definitely a lot of action, which was great.
But, it seemed over half the book was the characters just wondering what was going on and not being able to figure things out. It dragged on too long for me, and I found myself wishing the book along so that I could just find out who the bad guys were, and what was going to happen.
I would say it was a decent book, but not one I would re-read.
I would like to thank Revell for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.
Read the book not realizing it was part of a series—no problem! With excellent character development, the story shows that not all superheroes have to be martial arts or weapons experts, and cyber security may not may not be the setting you you first imagine for a romance novel, but the author uses these elements and more to put together an action thriller that takes place in a perfect setting.
Terrific romantic suspense. A definite page turner. It kept me guessing and surprised me. I am eager to read more by Elizabeth Goddard. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
As I was checking to see if I had read the previous books of this series, I noticed that I had read books 1 and 3. Somehow I missed the second book, however, it read well for me regardless. This book is about Mackenzie, who was previously a hacker who has now returned to help her family as they are experiencing problems from a hacker. She finds herself in danger as she works to help her sister Nora. She and Alex team up in the search for the cyber hacker who is causing her family lots of trouble. Attraction is brewing between the two. The characters were very interesting and enjoyable as they searched for answers. Although I am not too knowledgeable regarding this type of crime, the suspense kept me reading till the very end. I had no idea who the culprit was. The book definitely kept my attention with its well paced action.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
