Eighteen months after her husband was murdered, Emma is remarried to Tom. When the police reopen her first husband's currently unsolved murder investigation, she begins to wonder if they no longer suspect random street violence. With Emma and Tom under scrutiny by the police, Emma begins to uncover troubling details about how she and Tom actually met.

This was such a fun book to read. I really enjoyed the suspense, and the whodunit approach in the plot. The book was perfectly paced keeping my interest throughout, even when I think I figured out the big reveal. I can't wait to read more from Kate White!

Thank you to the author, Harper Perennial and Paperbacks, and NetGalley for a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review. #TheSecondHusband #NetGalley

Oooooh this was TOO good! I flew through this because I had to know what was coming next. I wasn’t sure who to trust or believe, and it kept me guessing until the very end. Loved it!

This was a really enjoyable "beachy" read that I would recommend to my audience. The plot felt predictable at times, but not so much so that I wanted to stop reading and I kept twisting and turning through the chapters. The main character felt steady and developed and I didn't have to suspend reality to enjoy this title. Overall, not a life-changing reading experience, but I would recommend this book and read the author again.

Talk about a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat...

Not only did I chew my fingernails down to the core while reading The Second Husband, but I might as well have lost my first husband myself as none of my daily chores were accomplished. Dinner went uncooked, dishes piled up and laundry that covered the floor from wall to wall.

Hey, I cant help it! These books just seem to take over my world and nothing else matters.

Back to The Second Husband...

This is an addictive and incredibly suspenseful novel that will keep you begging for more. Each time I flipped the page I feared I was not doing it fast enough. There was no shortage of family drama along the way and the twists just kept on coming.

The Second Husband will leave you with a serious book hangover and there will be no shortage of jaw dropping moments. If you are looking for something that will completely consume your life then this is definitely the book for you.

I devoured this book in one sitting and when I concluded I just wanted more Kate White!!!! So, I instantly ran on over to amazon and purchased The Secrets You Keep and Such a Perfect Wife. Wish me luck, I am currently on a Kate White binge.

Thank you for this advanced copy. i didn't enjoy this one as much as her previous book. The constant back and forth between thinking Tom was the bad guy got a little annoying. There were some twists I didn't see coming, but I found myself skimming it as I got closer to the end.

Emma’s husband Derrick was shot and killed while attending a conference in New York City. At first glance, it was assumed that the murder was a mugging gone wrong but after the police investigate the details further, foul play is suspected. There are several mysteries surrounding the case including why Derrick was even in the area where he was shot when he should have been attending the conference. Emma is shocked by the murder and is forced face her complicated feelings now that Derrick is gone. Their relationship may have not been as happy as it seemed . . .

Over two years later, Emma is shocked when Detective Lisa Webster shows up at her front door to ask questions about Derrick’s murder and reopen the investigation based on a new tip. Emma currently runs a successful boutique research company, recently married a wonderful and kind man named Tom, and is enjoying her fresh start. As the investigation progresses, Emma is forced to question many of her past and present relationships including the relationship with her second husband. Tom has not been completely honest with Emma about several important details in their relationship. Could Tom have killed Derrick or was Derrick killed by someone else in her life?

The story is told from the point of view of Emma (past and present). I would have really enjoyed having a few more chapters based in the past that detailed Emma and Derrick’s relationship as I didn’t feel like a lot of focus was given to their relationship. I bounced around between several suspects when guessing who killed Derrick. I was relatively surprised at who it turned out to be but not shocked. I found myself frustrated with Emma at times and how she excused the suspicious behavior of those around her because she didn’t want to face it. I guess that’s just human nature and the author was displaying that but it is relatively frustrating as the reader. This was a fun read for me! I read it in just over 24 hours and I was interested and invested in the story the entire time. It is always a pleasure to read a Kate White book :)

A woman’s seemingly perfect second marriage is rocked by a discovery about the death of her first husband in this twisty psychological thriller from Kate White.

After losing her husband, Derrick, in what appears to have been a random street crime, thirtysomething Emma has built a new life with widower Tom, who is kind, handsome, driven, and successful. Emma is finally able to feel safe again, both in her relationship with Tom and in the home they've made together on the Connecticut shore.

Then one day a homicide detective shows up at Emma and Tom’s door asking questions. Though Emma had been cleared of her husband’s murder, it appears that law enforcement is taking another look at her and the case.

What do they know? Are they on the right track this time? And most importantly, will the renewed investigation ruin Emma’s chances of a happy life?

With twists and turns all the way to the last page, this fast-paced, expertly plotted novel will have you asking that age-old question: how well do you really know the ones you love?

The Second Husband is a slow-burn murder mystery that takes place in the northeast. The protagonist, Emma Hawke, is currently married to her second husband, Tom. They both run successful businesses in Connecticut and seemingly have a charmed life. Things were much different for Emma less than two years ago. She was in an unhappy relationship with her husband Derrick, before he was callously shot and killed one night in New York City. Although the case went cold, Emma was considered as a suspect and still feels uneasy about the situation when a new detective comes knocking at her door in Connecticut, telling her they have a new lead and are reopening the case. Tom doesn’t seem the least bit worried, but strange things start happening and even stranger information about Tom and his connection to Emma prior to their marriage leave Emma full of doubt. When someone else close to them is murdered it leaves her head spinning and it’s up to her to figure out if she can trust her new husband - or anyone else for that matter.

I enjoyed Kate White’s last book, The Fiancée, and this new novel reminded me a lot of it. The author definitely has you thinking you figured out who the murderer is early on, only to have it be someone completely different and honestly kind of random. Obviously you don’t want to be able to guess an ending early on, but I also think the killer should be somewhat relevant to the story. I didn’t love this one as much as I’d hoped but it was a quick read.

Kate White might be my new favorite thriller writer! I liked this book a lot - and the fact that it takes place in the town in CT where I work made for great reading! Kate White certainly did her research on Westport, CT! An excellent twisty domestic thriller!

Emma lost who 1st husband to a violent murder two years ago; she moved on and remarried Tom; a very successful business man. Everything I'd great until Emma gets a knock on the door from the police, they are reopening his 1st husband's cold case.

After the case is reopened Emma discovers a lot and Aldo had a lot of questions. The book is very twisty and it's intriguing trying to figure out who murdered Derrick.

I loved the book but the ending was just awful. The story ends mid-paragraph. Basically there is no ending. I had my rating at 3 because of that, but then decided since I did enjoy the book all the way through until the ending to give the book a 4.

Thanks to Netgalley and the author for the ARC.

Sadly this one was not enjoyable for me. I actually really liked it in the beginning and felt it drew the reader right in with the plot and alternate timelines. However, there were a lot of problems for me. First I think there were entirely too many characters and it was difficult to remember some of the minor characters and their role at times when they were mentioned. There were a lot of little side stories going on that weren’t wrapped up at the end. Those stories also didn’t contribute much to the overall story. And the end? I kept checking to make sure that was it, I was shocked that it ended so abruptly. This was my first read of Kate White’s and I have heard great things about her other book so I will definitely give her another try sometime.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perrenial for access to this ARC.

#TheSecondHusband:⁣

“There are still loose ends, and each time she stuffs one in a box, another springs out, refusing to be contained. It’s as if the universe is trying to warn her about something, and she’s not paying attention”⁣

Like all Kate White thrillers, if you’re going to start it, better do it at 6AM so you can finish it that day. Kate White has a way of ending chapters so cryptically, or with a bombshell that you sit and say to yourself, “Well, okay, I guess I HAVE to find out what happens now”⁣

There’s always so many twists and turns and nothing is ever as it seems. I always feel like I know what’s going on and then I realize I’m the unhinged one making conspiracy theories that are explained with a simple conversation. ⁣

Another solid Kate White book with a wild and twisty plot. She’s easily one of my favorite authors, and its books like The Second Husband are why. Thank you so much @wunderbookspr and @harperbooks for the gifted copy. The Second Husband is out now! ⁣

What are your plans this weekend?

This is a pretty good mystery. Emma's first Derrick, was murdered and she has moved on. She has remarried to a guy named Tom. Then she receives a visit from a detective saying they are reopening the case. The book deals with the past, around the time of the murder, and the present . I thought I had figured out who was the murderer, but I was wrong. Thus had a lot of twists and turns and was really enjoyable.

The Second Husband by Kate White is a fun twisty psychological thriller that I couldn't put down.

Two years after her former husband was killed one night in NYC, Emma has built a new life with a widower Tom in Connecticut. When a detective shows up asking questions about the timing of her relationship with her new husband, Emma starts to question herself...

This was a fun domestic psychological thriller. I thought it had a good plot twist though the ending was a bit abrupt. If you're looking for a quick read check this one out!

This was a twisty psychological thriller. A woman's husband is murdered, & she's the prime suspect. Eventually, she's cleared & she starts her life over only to have a series of strange occurrences & murders happening again. Is she or someone she loves guilty? Is she losing her mind?

All these issues are in this book, along with a few red herrings. I figured out who the 1st murderer was, but not the second. To be honest, I thought the second murder & conspiracy was a bridge too far. I think the OG murder was more than enough to be a compelling book. So the author got a bit lost in the weeds, but it was still entertaining & interesting.

I felt like I was in the locations in my mind. Her writing is loaded with enough images to make you feel the wind in your hair on the ferry, for instance. The descriptions of each character's clothes was a bit much, but again, rich in detail. It just felt unnecessary, like the 2nd murder.

I mostly enjoyed this book. I recommend it, & thank #Netgalley & the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of #TheSecondHusband before publication to give it an unbiased review.

This is a fast-paced mystery thriller. As many begin with the first husband murdered and the 2nd one a suspect, I was hesitant to read it, but I'm glad it worked. The interests in all the characters treated as likely suspects between two timelines Then & Now will keep you engaged.

Emma and her 2nd husband, Tom, appear to have the perfect marriage near the shores of Connecticut. After her last marriage to Derrick, she wasn't sure when it ended with his murder while on a business trip. When a detective shows up unannounced at their home, with an update about her 1st husband's murder, you see her anxiety rise and maybe she is not innocent in the murder after all. She is hiding something throughout the book. When Tom becomes a likely suspect and lies about not ever knowing Emma before their introduction, she becomes leery of him. Could he have killed Derrick to become involved with her?

When characters are introduced, they all play a role in the final twist and turn. Another murder occurs which strengthens the odds against Tom. I felt it kept me on edge to solve it and I did not figure it out. What I could not figure out was the last page and noticed others had the same inquiry. I'm not sure what it meant.

Book: The Second Husband
Author: Kate White
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pub Date: June 28, 2022

It just wasn’t the book for me. It didn’t really hold my interest. I got bored with the in-depth descriptions of everything. And the ending didn’t make any sense. It was almost as if it didn’t even belong. Again, it just wasn’t a good book for me but doesn’t mean other readers won’t enjoy it.

Thanks to HarperCollins and NetGalley for allowing me this sneak peek! Publication date is June 21, 2022.

✨️ Happy Pub Day!!!!! ✨️

The Second Husband by Kate White is a suspense novel that will draw you in to the twisted murder of Emma Hawke's first husband.

Derrick was murdered in an alley in downtown New York. Suspicion lands on Emma, and when the case is reopened, law enforcement starts to question Emma's relationship with her second husband, Tom.

Emma has been deliriously happy with Tom, but she discovers Tom attended an event she was speaking at just two months before Derrick's death. Can she still trust him, or is there more Tom is hiding?

4/5 ⭐️

Read if: You love tension filled suspense novels and fast paced reads.

I was sucked in to this story from the beginning. The Second Husband definitely kept me guessing until the very end.

I loved how thoroughly White developed Emma's character. It really allowed me to get into her head, making all the twists and turns along the way that much more impactful. I was so invested in the outcome of this book!

I highly recommend!
