I am such a fan of a Elin Hilderbrand that it never matters what the book, as soon as something is published, I want it! Her books are fantastic and this one was just as good as the others. I liked the ghost aspect of the story, but I loved the characters and the depth in which she created each and every one. I also appreciated that she pulled out previous characters from other books, so it’s always nice to revisit the past characters.
When English businessman Xavier purchases the rundown and supposedly haunted Hotel Nantucket with the intent to renovate, the whole island is abuzz with curiosity. Lizbet, a local sweetheart in Nantucket, is hired as the General Manager after separating from her long term boyfriend and their restaurant together. Fall in love with each and every character in this sweet, charming beach read as they work together to run the hotel while navigating the challenges of life.
Prepare to be mentally transported to Nantucket as this book sucks you in from the very beginning. I couldn’t put this one down and you won’t be able to either. From the friendly ghost, to Lizbet, to the guests, you’ll be fully invested in each and every character. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a light beach read this summer!
Thank you to Little, Brown and Company and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.
This is my first read by Elin Hilderbrand, but it most definitely will not be the last! What a fun book! I loved the way it was written, giving each character their own spotlight and time to shine! It made the hotel a place I would love to visit and somewhere I'd like to live! I loved the surprises that eventually came out in the end. I really enjoyed the descriptions that Elin used to describe everything. It makes me think she must have wanted to write for Architecture Digest or an interior design magazine. Simply scrumtious descriptions of the food too! Made me hungry every time someone ate! I'm off to find my next book by her!
I’m always a fan of reading Elin’s books over the summer. I enjoy a good beach read during this time when I’m on holidays. I must admit however, that this one did take me a while longer to get into. I really didn’t get “into” it enough until a little over half way through…So, for me it didn’t really take off until the halfway point. I wasn’t really sure how I would like reading an Elin book with a ghost, but Grace sort of grew on me, and over time fit into the lives and stories of Nantucket quite well. One couldn’t help but feel for Grace and how she was used and taken advantage of. I think many of us feel that way at some point or another (and if not, count yourself very lucky). Though, hopefully none of us meet Grace’s fate, locked in an attic and killed by fire. As per usual, Elin’s characters are quite enjoyable (even the ones who cause drama) and you feel as though you too are a guest or staff member, or perhaps a fellow spirit in this case…of Hotel Nantucket as you watch everything unfold around you.
The Hotel Nantucket is a great summer read . It was my first Elin Hilderbrand book and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it.
Lizbet is hired to manage the newly renovated Nantucket Hotel after she leaves her last job when she splits with her boyfriend . Lizbet is put in charge of hiring the staff and making sure everything runs smoothly. What she doesn’t realize when she agrees is that the hotel has a ghost that was a former chambermaid who died in a fire years before.
This book is full of elements to keep readers engaged until the very end . Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy for my honest opinion.
Elin Hilderbrand once again shows why she is the queen of the summer beach read. I loved this different take that involved a ghost and mostly took place inside a hotel! I fell in love with every character and wanted to know more about everyone's backstory. Loved this one!
Like all her stories, the narration features plenty of name dropping and status seeking. Humorous ghosts and the setting is fun.
Elin Hilderbrand has done it again! Full disclosure, this is the first book of hers that I haven't cried at, so maybe that's a plus. Elin creates a world within the Hotel Nantucket, a place on the verge of a comeback. Purchased my a billionaire investor, the goal is to achieve "the 5th key," a rare distinction within the hotel industry. With Lisbet at the helm, Elin weaves in the daily lives of the hotel occupants with a ghost story from the 1920's. Throughout the story, the reader grows to love the cast of characters at this eccentric, but luxury hotel. I also enjoyed Elin's actual "Blue Book," where she provides a tour of the island and her favorite spots. I didn't see the twist at the end coming, Elin certainly keeps her readers guessing! Another summer classic.
Thanks to Little Brown and NetGalley for this review copy.
3.5 stars (rounded up to 4) for The Hotel Nantucket,
THN tells the story of Lizbet, a hospitality pro who runs one of Nantucket’s most popular restaurants with her long term partner, JJ. When Lizbet discovers hundreds of racy texts between JJ and their wine rep, Lizbet cuts all ties with JJ and the restaurant she held so dear, and takes a chance managing the Hotel Nantucket. The historic (and potentially haunted) property has changed hands several times since it opened in the early 20th century but has never seen much success. However, international billionaire Xavier Darling has invested millions of dollars in the mysterious building in hopes of earning the coveted “5 Hotel Key” rating from a renowned anonymous travel writer. Can Lizbet revive the languishing hotel, along with her love life?
Leave it to the reigning queen of beach reads to have me opening up Zillow and setting up an alert for Nantucket property before I was even halfway through the book. This was a quick and charming summer novel with a few loose ends I would have liked to see tied up, but nothing too glaring or off-putting. The characters are not terribly deep but they don’t really need to be. They’re as likable as you need them to be for this brief amount of time spent by the pool, beach, or even just lounging around on the couch. I love Hilderbrand’s attention to detail, especially when it comes to the Nantucket setting. I am also a huge fan of the very intricate luxury details, which are perfect for this particular genre. I like to live vicariously through lush descriptions of sheets with high thread counts and custom-sized emperor beds.
If you have a vacation coming up, especially one to New England, I definitely recommend this book. And of course, fans of the genre/author — if ya know ya know.
The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand gets four keys from me. I have read most of Elin Hilderbrand's books, she's a favorite author of mine. Yet this book did not start out strong for me, I actually set the book aside and started it over about 20 pages in because I was not connecting with the story. Good thing I came back to it because overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was the type of book for me that kept getting better and better as I read more. By the end, I was completely immersed in the story and was very sad to read the last page. It is the story of The Hotel Nantucket, a 100 year old hotel that was the place to be when it originally opened, but was later abandoned and sat in disrepair for decades. A London-based billionaire purchased it with the intent of bringing it back to the 'place to be' hotel in Nantucket. Along with the cosmetic renovations that needed to take place, there was also the ghost of Grace Hadley, a chambermaid that perished in a fire at the hotel, to be dealt with. The story is fun and moves along at a nice pace, there was also a pretty surprising (to me) twist that is revealed toward the end.
What a perfect, immersive, and fun summer read! I believe this was my 10th Hilderbrand novel and what a great one it was! I could not read it fast enough to find out how everything would turn out for this "haunted" hotel and the host of characters, who you quickly grow to love and know in-depth working at it. Hilderbrand is the master of beach-reads and I highly recommend this one as pure entertainment.
I loved this book! Elin did it again! The story and characters were perfect and the ghost story plot was great too! I absolutely loved it!
Could a hotel possibly hold any more secrets? Hilderbrand, the queen of the beach read, is back with another novel filled with the best juicy gossip out of Nantucket. This time, the drama is held in between the walls of the newly renovated Hotel Nantucket. I've never read a Hilderbrand novel I didn't like, and this one was no exception.
👍 What I liked: There is no doubt that this drama-filled story set in Nantucket makes for the best kind of summer read. I also really enjoyed the hotel-based setting, which really made me feel like I was on vacation myself. The third-person omniscient narrator is absolutely hilarious and even at times sarcastic. I laughed at every turn of the page. This story is also filled with jaw-dropping scandals, where every character has a secret to hide and sucks the reader into all of the juicy drama. Despite the many characters in the story, the plot is easy to follow. This book is an absolute page-turner.
👎 What I didn't like: I'm still undecided about the ghost story aspect of the book, which seems unlike Hilderbrand's usual style. However, if you typically dislike ghost stories (as I typically would), do not let it deter you from reading this book as it did not bother me as I'd expected. Also, I do find that some chapters could have been divided: some were long and jumped from one character's story to another which was a little messy. Chapter length was inconsistent throughout the book.
⚠️ Trigger warnings: sexual assault, abusive/manipulative relationships, infidelity, loss of a pet
Thank you NetGalley and Little, Brown, and Company for my free electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.
Lizbet and her boyfriend have just broken up after she caught him cheating with their wine rep for their restaurant on Nantucket. Xavier, a London billionaire, purchases The Hotel Nantucket which has been abandoned after many failed attempts at being a functioning hotel on the island. His goal is to make it the first 5 key hotel ever from a mysterious blogger. Lizbet hears about the hotel and decided she wants to reinvent herself and applies to be the manager. Lizbet has to overcome getting the place up and running, her ex-boyfriend who keeps making appearances, long-term hotel guests, new staff, and a hotel ghost who is determined to tell her story.
Elin Hilderbrand is not an auto-buy for me like she is for many. I loved 28 Summers, but some books haven't kept my interest. I really enjoyed this book though. It was fun and had some really great characters who I grew to love. It was the perfect summer read.

The Hotel Nantucket
Wow, I needed this escape to Nantucket that Elin provides in The Hotel Nantucket.
Now I am really ready to plan a trip to this magical island she writes about in most of her books. I can totally see the cast of characters she has presented us with in this one going on for another couple of books much like The Winter Street Series.
Synopsis
The Hotel Nantucket suffered a tragic fire in 1922 that ended the life of nineteen year old chamber maid Grace Hadley. The hotel suffered a great decline over the years. Xavier Darling a billionaire from across the pond makes it his mission to turn the hotel into a luxurious resort and one that earns the illustrious 5 key rating from Shelley Carpenter, creator of the famous blog Hotel Confidential.
Xavier hires Lizbeth Keaton as his general manager, and she is more than eager to prove she can accomplish turning the hotel’s reputation around. She is looking for a fresh start after her boyfriend and partner of ten years cheated on her.
Lizbeth hires a staff that proves to be both charismatic and very invested int the success of the hotel. This is where Elin shines creating characters with so much depth and the reader becomes invested in each of their stories. I think one of my favorite storylines was Chad’s, but I also enjoyed the ghost Grace’s insight into all of the character’s lives. Elin wrote Grace in so well that it wasn’t awkward or hokey at all!
This is definitely a feel good summer read! This is perfect to bring to the beach or the pool or like me read a good chunk of it during a car trip! Elin is an autobuy for me and she never disappoints.
On a side note, I talked to my oldest daughter about the book and going to Nantucket and she said Let’s Do that and make it our Christmas present!
Q- Has a book ever convinced you to visit a destination?
A haunted hotel in New England on the beautiful island of Nantucket? Yes, please! I've never read a Elin Hilderbrand book prior to reading this book, so I was excited to dive into this one, being from New England myself. Typically, for me, reading ghost stories is something I do in the fall, but I was intrigued by a summer ghost story. I loved how this story took place in the summer and weaved in all that New England charm along with the ghost story.
Grace Hadley haunts The Hotel Nantucket, after dying in a fire in 1922. Billionaire Xavier Darling purchases the abandoned hotel with the goal of being the first hotel to ever receive a 5 keys rating from a famous travel blogger, so manager Lizbet and her staff are on a mission to make sure the hotel runs smoothly and perfectly so that when the famed blogger arrives, they will have all their ducks in a row and be the first ever hotel to receive 5 keys.
I have to admit, when I started reading, I was in a bad reading slump, and it was really hard for me to get through the first half of the book. I felt like there were a lot of characters being introduced and I was starting to get confused about who I was reading about and how they fit into the story, so I decided to put the book down for a week, and I'm so glad I did! I finished the second half of the book in two days, flying through the pages to see what happened next with the characters' stories that were coming together nicely and all the shenanigans happening at the hotel. This book was so cute that I wish there was a sequel coming out. The characters are all, for the most part, likeable and you want to know more of their stories as you read, and they all had a story to tell, which makes the ending even that much better.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you Little, Brown and Company and @NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!
Another Elin Hilderbrand hit. I was unsure at first when I saw there was a ghost as a character, but I gave it a chance and I am glad I did. It was a well, written, thoroughly enjoyable read. A few surprises happen along the way and a lot of joy.
I also love how the author provides a mini tour book of Nantucket at the end. Makes me want to take a trip there.
Must read this summer.
Get ready for the ultimate beach read! This book swept me in immediately and o really enjoyed the plot balance. There are the lighter summer elements, and of course it’s set on Nantucket. On the surface the story is about a new hotel opening on Nantucket, but the swirling characters are what really make up the story: the employees, guests, and even a friendly haunt. It’s not a mystery book, but there are enough unanswered questions throughout that you never want to put it down. If you’re looking for a light absorbing read that’s not going to make you cry…this one is for you! 😁
I’m new to Hilderbrand but not new to Nantucket and WOW! This book was amazing. I was skeptical about the ghost component but IT worked. Loved the voice and POV style- so quirky, yet addicting! The perfect summer read!!!
It wouldn't be summer for me without reading an Elin Hilderbrand novel. The Hotel Nantucket is another terrific island getaway. With the renovation and grand opening of this historic (and haunted??) hotel, we follow the staff and the guests through the inaugural summer season. As with most of Elin's books, there are juicy rumor filled happenings that keep you turning pages. I loved the characters and their interactions with each other. I also loved the fact that there is a guide to Nantucket at the end of the book. Bucket List!!
