First, I’d like to thank Netgalley for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a sucker for mystery books and romance books, and this book hit all the marks. You can’t help but root for and fall in love with all of the characters, even though most all we’re harboring secrets. The ending—one word: Perfect!
This was my first Elin Hilderbrand novel, but it most definitely will not be my last. I am a new fan!
Thank you NetGalley and Elin Hilderbrand. If you know me I love all Elin books and feel like I can tell you all about Nantucket from them. I loved the blue book at the end but more importantly I was sucked into all the individual stories running and keeping up with all the characters. Well done! One of my favorites of the Summer!
The "queen" of Nantucket beach reads, Elin Hilderbrand delivers her 28th novel—THE HOTEL NANTUCKET, a tribute to the beach island with the author's personal complete Blue Book guidebook, included. Fans will love this one.
One thing for sure, the author knows NANTUCKET!
The starring ghost is Grace Hadley, a teenage chambermaid who died under suspicious circumstances in a hotel fire in 1922.
The historic HOTEL NANTUCKET has been purchased and reopened ($30 million in renovations) by a London billionaire, Xavier Darling.
The goal is to attain five stars "Five Keys" from Shelly, an undercover hotel blogger called Hotel Confidential, who has not been awarded top honors to any spot visited thus far. She will be a tough one to crack.
Xavier hires Lizbet Keaton as the general manager. Lizbet is well-loved on the island. Lots of history and drama here as we learn about her past, all the new hires, the backstories, and their unique personalities.
The haunted hotel is something to be overcome and quite fun. Grace's 19-year-old body was found in the attic, and it alleged she was mistress to the hotel's owner, Mr. Bendict. They say her spirit still is in the building until it is proven Jackson's wife caused the fire that killed her.
From gossip, delicious food and wine, entertainment, intriguing guests, staff members, ghost, and lots of secrets! Multi-plotted, genre-bending drama with loads of scandal.
If you have read Elin's books, you will enjoy characters from previous books and landmarks. A lengthy book and a lot jam-packed in one book, but the Blue Book at the end is worth the read. If you have not visited Nantucket lately, you will be ready to board a plane to make the trip!
I was a VP for resort hotel groups worldwide, interior designer, B&B Inns, and sold hi-end condo hotels, so I always enjoy stories about intriguing hotels. There is always something fascinating going on.
Ironically, I read about the (real) fire on Nantucket Island this past weekend (July 10) online at the Veranda House historic hotel—a 17th-century building 18-room boutique hotel completely renovated in 2020. Appears there was a massive fire with severe damage to the building and others. Luckily it appears there were no fatalities. It is yet to be determined the cause of the fire and could not help thinking about the fire in the book and the ghosts.
If you enjoy historical hotel ghost stores, I highly recommend Camille di Maio's The Beautiful Strangers. Set in the legendary iconic Hotel Del Coronado in Southern California between the timeline of 1892 and 1958 with a little Hollywood she blends fact and fiction.
A special thank you to #LittleBrownandCo and #NetGalley for an ARC to read, review, and enjoy! I also purchased the audiobook narrated by Erin Bennett for a highly entertaining listening experience.

June 2022 Must-Read Books
This was my first Elian Hilderbrand read and now I cannot wait to devour all of her other books.
The Hotel Nantucket offered a true escape with its beautifully set scenes and food descriptions that made my mouth water. I fell in love with the characters, whom always had more to them than you’d initially thought, and greatly enjoyed unraveling their mysteries and true selves.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!
Elin Hilderbrand does it again. Her descriptive writing style is sure to transport you to Nantucket. I always have a great time when reading her novels and find myself eager to get back. The ghost of Grace was the added cherry on top for me. She ended up being my favorite character. A fun, must read, for the summer.
When a hotel in Nantucket is rebuilt, secrets, past and present, begin to emerge.
This is quintessential Hilderbrand. Yes, she writes beach reads, but they’re so much deeper than that title. The characters come to life and you care about them. I loved this.
This might be my favorite @elinhilderbrand book so far. I loved the whole haunted, but not creepy, beautiful hotel setting, the rich and vibrant characters (those back stories, omg), the secrets, and friendships formed. You know it is a perfect beach read when every time you go to the beach someone has a copy in their hands and they are deeply engrossed in it. #thehotelnantucket is that book!! Even though my reviews are not as richly written as Shelly Carpenter's, I would no doubt give this book 🗝🗝🗝🗝🗝
Review of The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one surprised me with how much I liked it. I love the winter street series by this author but most of the other books I’ve read were solid three stars but this one a four. I absolutely adored the hotel setting on nantucket. And I fell in love with the characters and their stories and even loved the super natural element I loved the ending. It’s a long book but it read fairly quickly. Overall I definitely recommend this it’s a fun summer beach read.
Quick synopsis: there is a fire at the hotel back in 1922 and a maid named Grace is killed (likely locked in by her lover’s jealous wife- important to note he preyed on Grace and she was not a totally willing participant). After they the hotel burned it had become mediocre at best until now when a billionaire named Xavier buys it and renovated it. He’s determined to make it better than ever and hires Lizbet to manage it. Lizbet just went through a horrible breakup and must get a new job because of it and is thrilled. And Grace is there of course to haunt the hotel. This covers their first summer of business and all the lives of the fascinating characters who work there and some who visit.
Thank you so much @netgalley and @littlebrownandcompany for the advanced copy. This one is out now.
All of the characters in this book have so much personality which brings them to life and all of the descriptions of characters, food and settings were amazing. Sometimes it felt like there were too many characters and that it was jumping all over the place to get a little bit from each one. I think I would’ve preferred if each character got their own chapter or if there were some other way to distinguish the different characters’ parts. I did enjoy the gossip-y feel of the book though! Overall it was a very cute and feel-good summer read!
I want to thank NetGalley, Little, Brown and Company and Elin Hilderbrand for this ebook copy to review 🙏🏻☺️
The characters! Never have I ever read a book with so many characters & could follow along so seamlessly. Elin Hilderbrand takes readers on an unforgettable summer adventure through the hearts, minds, & stomachs (those food & drink descriptions though!) of quite a few likeable characters. Sometimes, I would think to myself "Oh yeah! I forgot about.......
". I was thrilled when a character I had forgotten popped back into the picture. Hotel Nantucket will have you feeling like you were a staff member experiencing the highs and lows of the summer. You'll probably wish Alessandra and Edie could check you in tomorrow. Just make sure you stay on Grace's good side!
All the stars for this summer read! My new favorite Elin Hilderbrand. Everything about this book is a chef's kiss of perfection.
The Hotel Nantucket, dilapidated and deemed a failure by all of Nantucket. But, when a billionaire that has never stepped foot in Nantucket takes over and transforms the place the town can hardly believe it. The setting and storyline of this book is absolutely amazing. You fall in love with the hotel and the guest. This book will have you wishing it never ended!
This book was 5 stars through and through. The queen of the beach read has done it again! A little romance & a little mystery. Love Elin & everything she writes.
I will never not buy an Elin Hilderbrand book and I will never not kick off summer with her latest offering.
I really liked this book - it was typical of what I have come to expect from this author. I always enjoy the casts of characters, the plots and, of course, the setting. The author's descriptive way of writing makes one almost able to feel the ocean breeze and smell the delicious food. I had minor quibbles with two of the supporting characters, but not enough to detract from my overall enjoyment.
I liked this one a bit more than 2020's Golden Girl and quite a bit more than 2019's 28 Summers.
Nantucket native Lizbet Keaton has been hired for the challenge of the lifetime—to become the general manager for the new Hotel Nantucket. However, Lizbet has her work cut out for her. Wealthy owner Xavier Darling is determined to create a hotel deserving of a travel rating of an elusive 5 key rating. This hotel will have it all—style, class, premier customer service, and also….a ghost?
Overlooking the hotel is Grace—a chambermaid killed in a hotel fire in 1922. Grace is a complex character—sometimes protector and sometimes antagonist. However, more than anything she wants her murderer brought to light.
I could not get enough of the Hotel Nantucket! The writing was amazing—you almost felt that you were checking into the hotel yourself. And the characters were fun and likeable. I was disappointed when the story came to and end, and like many of her other readers, really hope for a sequel. Definitely worth the read!
I love all of Elin Hilderbrand's books. I have read every single one of them and I love all of them. Some more than others. The very first Elin book I ever read from my public library was Blue Bistro, so I was tickled when that book was mentioned and a character made an appearance in this book, Hotel Nantucket. From the first page I was instantly hooked and drawn to every character that was introduced. There was just a little bit of mystery infused to make you want to keep turning pages long into the night, which is my favorite kind of book. This is the perfect summer beach read!
The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand
The newly renovated Hotel Nantucket, a gilded age gem rescued from neglect, is managed by local sweetheart Lizbet who hopes the charismatic
The Hotel Nantucket is a lighthearted beach read chock full of scandal, secrets, and memorable characters on a beautiful island setting. I devoured this over the holiday weekend and it was quintessential Elin.
I really enjoyed the premise - renovating a cursed hotel in hopes of the elusive five star review. I was a little skeptical when I started the book because there are a lot of characters, one being a ghost, but each was unique I had no trouble keeping track as the book progressed.
It was fun to get a look inside the workings of the hotel, everything from the décor, food, and housekeeping to the backgrounds of each hotel employee and guest. It reminded be a lot of Below Deck - where you focus on the crew but get an inside look of a luxury yacht/hotel and their rich guests.
I wasn't expecting this to have a little ghost story to it. I was worried I wouldn't like it because I don't like unbelievable fiction but it was great! Not too much on the ghost haunting. Elin's Nantucket books always make me want to visit.
This was an engaging read. I liked the characters, including the ghost, and all their flaws. Learning about Nantucket was a definite perk to reading this book. Thank you, Elin, for sharing Nantucket with us.
Loved this delicious summer read of scandal and romance that takes you away to Nantucket - that place of romance, gossip, and delight! I really liked the characters, and couldn't turn the pages fast enough!! Take this to the beach, the cottage, on your vacation, but take it! You won't be able to put it down!
This book is sure to be a crowd pleaser for Elin Hilderbrand readers and summer readers alike. Although the cover has nothing to do with the plot of the novel, it's still nice to look at.
SUMMARY
Lizbet is reeling from a horrific breakup with her ex and former business partner and decides to leave their joint successful Nantucket restaurant to be the manager for the newly renovated Hotel Nantucket that was recently purchased by an eccentric billionaire. Told over its first summer of operation, many characters are introduced, upper-upper middle class life struggles are explored, and Nantucket institutions and higher end brands are name-dropped.
Additionally, Grace is a ghost who was murdered in the hotel 100 years ago and currently haunts the hotel and the story is occasionally through her point of view...
OPINIONS
Although I didn't DISLIKE this book, it took me so long to finish. I just wasn't in the mood to read about "poor" rich people. I didn't have a favorite character as no one really felt that fleshed out to me. I thought Grace's plot-line added nothing to the story and fell flat. Too many plot points were introduced so that I never attached to anything and ended up not caring about story lines.
However, it was an adequate escapist read, and I suppose I just wasn't in the mood to read it.
Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for an ARC!
