After a traffic 1922 fire that kills 19-year-old maid Grace Hadley, The Hotel Nantucket descends from glamorous to mediocre… That is, until it’s purchased and renovated by London billionaire, Xavier Darling, who hires Nantucket local Lizbet Keaton to manage and staff the hotel. Amidst the challenges of opening a new hotel, navigating interpersonal dynamics, and harmless interventions by the ghost of Grace, the staff of The Hotel Nantucket is in pursuit of one thing: A “five key” rating by Instagram’s most scrupulous hotel reviewer.
The last Elin book I read was 2020’s 28 Summers (we decided not to buy Golden Girl after criticism of anti-Semitism), and honestly, it would be difficult for anything to compare. So with that in mind, I went into The Hotel Nantucket only expecting a good (likely 4+ star) book by the queen of beach reads herself. Unfortunately, The Hotel Nantucket just didn’t quite hit the mark.
While I understand using Grace as a device to increase hotel occupancy, outside of that, I found that her perspective wasn’t really additive to the story - All of the information we find out via her spying could have been communicated otherwise, in my opinion. I found the “ghost” aspect to be distracting, and altogether unfulfilling.
I won’t dive into specifics of characters for fear of spoilers, but I can’t say I was altogether satisfied with the neat bows with which most plot lines wrapped. To me, not everyone got what they deserved.
With only 2 more years until Elin Hilderbrand’s planned retirement, and a roster of other books I’ve enjoyed, this certainly won’t be the last book of hers that I pick up - I just wouldn’t recommend it, overall.
Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of The Hotel Nantucket ebook from NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
It must be summer! Elin Hilderbrand’s new novel The Hotel Nantucket is out and it’s everything you would expect and more from the Queen of Nantucket!
The Hotel Nantucket has a rich history and not all of it is good! After many failed attempts at turning this building into a profitable endeavour, billionaire Xavier Darling takes a shot at it. Xavier invests a small fortune creating a hotel atmosphere with the best staff and amenities on the island!
Lizbet Keaton has just left her partner of many years (both business and personal) after discovering he hasn’t been faithful and secured the general manager position at the new hotel. Lizbet needs to hire and train the staff and opening day is around the corner.
We follow each of the staff members throughout their summer journey learning their secrets along the way. And what happens when the famous hotel ghost starts to make appearances to the guests. What does she want? And who is she?
A summer tale filled with Nantucket landmarks, intriguing characters and a romance or two, the latest from Elin Hilderbrand will not disappoint. This is a solid five star read and worthy of being added to you summer tbr.
A billionaire, Xavier Darling purchases an old hotel in Nantucket with a plan to make it a 5 star hotel. He hires Lizbet Keaton as his general manager, and Lizbet gathers a varied staff who share the vision of turning the fate of the hotel around. They face many challenges. One of them is trying to earn the 5 star rating from a famous hotel blogger who they are expecting to visit, but have no idea who this person is. Another challenge is overcoming the hotel's bad reputation, which is that a ghost is haunting the hotel.
There are cameo appearances of past characters from previous books.
I really enjoyed this book. It's filled with characters and storylines, but not confusing at all. I have not read Elin Hilderbrand before. I'm excited to read more.
The Hotel Nantucket is definitely worthy of five keys -- oops, five stars! I always look forward to Hilderbrand's new releases, and she did not disappoint me! I want to stay at the Hotel Nantucket under Lisbet's staffs' watchful eye and enjoy delicacies prepared by Mario. My old soul loved the story of Grace and the presence of her spirit throughout the hotel. Chad Winslow was one of my favorite staff members - his dedication and drive is hard to come by these days in some of the younger generation. I will definitely be recommending this book to others and probably purchasing it for some upcoming birthday gifts!
I loved this book SO MUCH! I look forward to Elin’s books every year and practically screamed when I received an early copy of this book!
I loved the premise of this story. The setting was so descriptive that I could picture what things looked like in my head. I loved how we really got to know each character. There was romance, and humor, and a bit of a mystery element that kept me turning pages.
I usually stay far away from books with a ghost in it, so I was leery going into this book. If you’re like me, DO NOT shy away from this book because of that. The ghost in this just was just a minor part and I wouldn’t call this a supernatural book at all.
This will be a great summer read and I can’t wait for everyone else to get their hands on this book!
Thank you #littlebrown and #netgalley for an advanced copy of #thehotelnantucket by #elinhilderbrand in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first Elin Hilderbrand book that I've ever read. I've seen hype for novels all over Instagram for as long as I can remember and I've just never picked one up. Thanks to Netgalley and Little, Brown and Company for this ARC I was able to finally dive into one of them.
At first I wasn't sold on this book at all. I found it pretty boring until about half way through when you actually got to know the characters. After that I couldn't put this book down. My favorite story line was Grace (the hotel ghost) and Wanda. So cute! It wasn't difficult to figure out who's POV you were reading either, which I appreciated. I love books with different POVs. The ending came together nicely and overall this was just a really good, lighthearted summer read. Can't wait to recommend it to the girls in my book club.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last decade, you know that Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of summer reads! I own every single book she’s ever written, in hardback to boot! I’m a longtime fan! That being said, this is definitely not her best work. It does not measure up to the standards we’ve come to expect from the queen herself. Juxtaposing The Hotel Nantucket with 28 Summers and Summer of ’69, this book falls short of her usual greatness. As a standalone it’s likely a solid 4-star book, albeit a slow burn in the beginning. I feel as though Hilderbrand is bending over backwards in an attempt to remain relevant. At times, her rhetoric, phrasing, and terminology are downright irksome. This book is missing the witty banter and rapport between characters we’ve come to expect and admire from her books. No spoilers, so I’ll be ambiguous; if not for the enjoyable ending this book would have barely scraped by with a 2 star rating from me. The downside of becoming an author we readers rush out and “auto-buy” on publishing day is that you’re held to a higher standard. Although, it’s not to her detriment because I will still be going out and immediately purchasing this latest novel in hardback to add to my collection!
Thank you to Netgalley and Little, Brown and Company for this ebook gifted copy!
Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of Summer reads and I have to admit, The Hotel Nantucket was my first of hers. I am happy to say that I will definitely be picking up more.
Set in Nantucket (of course), Elin's stomping ground, there is a hotel that's been through the ringer. First, a tragic fire in 1922 took the life of Grace, one of the hotel's chambermaids. From then on, the hotel changes possession a few times to take on different accommodation types. It's not until an English billionaire, Xavier buys the Nantucket Hotel and makes it better than its ever been (a 30 million dollar reno will do that) for his own personal reasons. As Grace continues to haunt the hotel in hopes that someone will shed light on the truth of her murder, the newly appointed General Manager and Nantucket local, Lizbeth and staff work through issues amongst themselves and the guests as the busy Summer season begins.
Amongst the heartbreak, romance (old and new) and various trials and tribulations the staff and guests are going through, the ghost's narritive adds a very welcomed comic relief. The story is told via multiple female characters which I found fun and light.
The different storylines of some of the staff members and guests really had me anticipating when I'd find out their whole scoop or when the final puzzle piece would fit together. This is what drew me to keep reading.
This is a great beach read, as they say and the Blue Book at the end of the novel was a special treat that is sure to add to anyone's Nantucket holiday.
If you are an Elin Hilderbrand fan, go ahead and add this to your list now. While I thought the middle was a little slow, Elin wrapped it all up with a pretty bow, as always. I enjoyed the storylines of the different hotel guests along with the characters that worked at the hotel. I loved feeling like we were getting an inside peak of the hospitality industry. It is a perfect beach read if you have a beach to read it on. And definitely a perfect summer read for anywhere. Bucket list: Visit Nantucket someday and use Elin's "Bluebook" travel guide she included in the back of the book.
Its Summer so that must mean a new book by Elin Hilderbrand. I seriously can't wait for her books to be published. I really enjoyed this book. I really need to visit Nantucket. I liked the characters (even the ghostly Grace) and found myself googling words that proved I am older than I think I am. Lizbet Keaton and her crew at The Hotel Nantucket kept me glued to my chair wanting to finish the book before I did anything else. Another winner!
I sat down and read this in a few hours even staying up to finish it in a week that was hard to focus in so that says a lot to me. Great summer read that doesn't require much to engage.
Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review, would love to also post it on goodreads but continually get an error message when trying to do so
This was a fun, entertaining light read. It centers around the staff working in an old hotel that has just been renovated. The staff is eclectic and we get to learn a little about all of their lives. There's a past romance, several new romances, some down on their luck people and some that may be living a little beyond their means.
This story really has a little of everything that you might expect if you throw a small group of people together and expect them to all do what's right and work together in harmony. Ha! I'm sure you can imagine. I really loved the complexity of the characters and their lives. There's also a small mystery involving a ghost that resides in the hotel. She really added a cuteness and some devilment to the stays of the customers. She likes to keep her "hand" in everything at the hotel while she waits for someone to discover what really happened to her.
A most enjoyable read!
Thanks to Little Brown and Company and NetGalley for the gifted copy. Al thoughts are my own.

This was an arc I received from NetGalley.
It was my first Elin Hilderbrand novel, and it took me a little bit to get into it. Once I did, I couldn’t put it down. Her writing about Nantucket was so wonderful - it made me want to visit.
An easy summer read about second chances and the camaraderie of a hotel staff. The unique perspective of Grace, the "ghost" of the Hotel Nantucket, provided some insight into the various characters that worked and stayed at the hotel. Overall, a typical Elin Hilderbrand Nantucket novel about overcoming obstacles, redemption, and the power of love.
My new favorite Elin Hilderbrand book. The story is smart, intriguing, and full of interesting characters —with each having an interesting story of their own. I read this in just a few sittings as I literally did not want to put this down. A fun book about Nantucket as well- the author always makes me want to visit so I can picture the island as I read. I will be sure to recommend this book to everyone I know.
Thank you Netgalley for a ARC.
Hildebrand has been veering into fantasy with her last two novels. She has captured a unique viewpoint which should be fun for most readers.Satisfying summer read.
I loved this newest book by Elin Hilderbrand. I was not a fan of her last book, and I was afraid she was finally going to lose me. This hooked me right back in. She really is the queen of the summer read. I love the references to previous characters throughout the book. There was a reference to many previous books and it just seemed like you were part of Nantucket yourself. I loved the point of view of Grace throughout the book and I loved how invested Wanda became in her story. I also loved the twist of the hotel reviewer. I figured it out about a page before the characters in the story. Such a cute summer read!
Xavier Darling from London has purchased and renovated the Hotel Nantucket. He wants it to be the premier boutique hotel experience on the island. The original hotel was destroyed by fire in 1922 and a young chambermaid, Grace Hadley, died in that fire. She has never left the hotel and her ghost speaks to us throughout the book, adding a fun element to the story. Xavier hires a local woman Lizbet Keaton as the general manager. She is well known on Nantucket and hires the hotel staff. We get so much detail of the renovation, staff, and guests, you can picture everything and can practically feel the breeze coming off the water! The chapters alternate among the characters and keep the story moving forward. I just love her writing and my yearly visit to Nantucket through her books! Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown for an early copy. Release date June 14.
And summer is here! Elin always delivers on the drama, intrigue, and relatability of her characters, and Hotel Nantucket does not disappoint. In addition to her characters, the hotel itself is an amazing setting with its own backstory. The book is a fun peek into the ups and downs of the hospitality industry. There's something for everyone- food, beach sunsets and romance. Well done!
