Another Nantucket winner. Loved getting to know the characters, including the ghost. Story moved along nicely and had a satisfying ending. Can't ask for much more.
Another awesome summer blockbuster for Elin Hilderbrand! May she write ad infinitum all the days of our ,lives!
This Nantucket novel, was focused on the people who work at The Hotel Nantucket, opened for its first summer season since it’s purchase and refurbishment by billionaire, Xavier Darling. It’s also haunted by Grace Hadley, a chambermaid who lost her life in a fire at the hotel in 1922. This was just a sweet, feel-good novel. A perfect summer read. A few prior characters from some of Hilderbrand’s earlier novels provide background and a continuity of island life and how small a town can be. I loved every second of it.
*Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this novel.*
This is the first book of Elin Hilderbrand's that I have read. I found The Hotel Nantucket to be a truly fun beach read, it checked all my boxes. I enjoyed all the quirky characters including the Hotel Nantucket's resident ghost, Grace. Gosh, where have I been? I will certainly be checking out this popular author's other books.
I am a big fan of any book set on Nantucket and Elin Hilderbrand's latest novel did not disappoint! Set at The Hotel Nantucket, the book follows a friendly ghost Grace and the many characters who work/visit the hotel. I loved that the setting was a hotel and thought it really lent itself to the novel - and I especially loved the characters! In fact, I loved so many of the characters, that I found myself a little disappointed as I felt like some of their storylines weren't as developed as they could have been. There were LOTS of different plots happening in the book (not so many, however, that it was hard to keep track) and at certain points it felt like the book was rushing to wrap up some of their plots.
Overall - I loved this book and really enjoyed the setting. I also loved the "guide" to Nantucket found at the end of the book. A great easy beach read for the summer that will keep you entertained!
I received this book free of charge from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
I look forward to reading all of Elin's new books and this one didn't disappoint. It centers on Lizbet, who becomes the manager of a newly renovated hotel on Nantucket. She is fresh off a breakup with her former business partner and looking for a change. She and the rest of her new team are trying to achieve an elusive 5 key review from a hotel blogger.
The staff is made up of a mishmash of people, who you think may never work together, but they do. There are a few people with some sketchy backgrounds that she tasks a chance on. Does it work out? You have to read to find out.
The hotel gains some notoriety when a young hotel guest named, Wanda, writes a review that the hotel is haunted by a chambermaid, Grace, that was murdered in the hotel in the 1920's. Everyone wants to see if it is true or not.
This book was so good and I didn't want to stop reading it. I'm hoping there is a sequel to the book. I want to see what happens to some of the characters.
The Hotel Nantucket is another great beach read by Elin Hilderbrand. Connections and relationships between the characters, including the resident ghost, keep things humming along. And, of course, there are the expected secrets, misunderstandings, and blossoming love. The Hotel Nantucket will be a popular read this summer.
Welcome to the Summer of ‘22! (minus any mentions of Covid so as not to pop the fantasy bubble) This summer on Nantucket Island centres on the first three months of the newly-renovated, re-opening of The Nantucket Hotel – a historical building more than one hundred years old that has had its fair share of past bad luck, tragedy, and poor business decisions, and is literally haunted by the ghost of a young woman. Now, under new ownership, and management, the new general manager, Lizbet Keaton, is determined to make the hotel the best it can be.
Assisting Lizbet are the following core staff members:
Manning the front desk, ready to check you in and service your every need, are Alessandra Powell and Edith Robbins.
Bellmen Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ English, and Adam and Raoul Wasserman-Ramirez (married couple) will deliver your bags to your room within five minutes of your arrival.
Head of Housekeeping, Magda English (Zeke’s aunt)and her young protégé Chadwick Winslow have a one hundred points cleaning checklist that they follow religiously.
Mario Subiaco is the chef of the Blue Bar – the hotel bar, and will serve you such sublime delicacies as deviled eggs with a trio of toppings, almond croissants, and a coconut and caramel apple whipped cream concoction.
Night auditor, Richie Decameron is stationed at the front desk come nightfall.
But, as you would expect, these staff arrive with life baggage – secrets, trauma, dishonestly, and betrayal.
When I’m in the mood for charming, relaxing, uplifting, light entertainment, with drama, romance and FOMO for a summer on Nantucket, I know I can rely on Elin Hilderbrand, and The Hotel Nantucket delivered on all counts. Sure the writing and plot was at times cheesy and over-the-top (I mean there’s a ghost POV for heavens sake) but it’s all in good positive fun, and this is a sub genre of books that includes serious and emotional topics, but at the same time shouldn’t be taken too seriously. After weeks of rain here in wintery New Zealand, it definitely cheered me up, and of course it is the perfect choice for your summer vacation, beach read, and airplane/airport. But, be advised, don’t read it if you’re hungry as the drool-worthy descriptions of delicious culinary may cause you to snack on the book.
As children, my two sisters and I, loved nothing more than exploring hotels we stayed in. I’m surprised we were never told off, although if we had of been we would’ve been genuinely apologetic, and my middle sister would’ve cried, so I’m sure all would’ve been forgiven. Anyway, my long-winded point is that that feeling of excitement, discovery, and imagination never leaves you, and I loved touring, exploring, and experiencing the various luxurious nooks and crannies of The Hotel Nantucket alongside the staff and guests, in particular seeing it through the eyes of eight-year-old Wanda – who was also a mystery fan, and inquisitive to boot.
Unlike Elin Hilderbrand’s numerous ‘summer’ books set in Nantucket, this one doesn’t include any beach scenes, nor was The Hotel Nantucket a beachside hotel, so I’m a little confused by the cover, and would’ve preferred a photo of the hotel in question, since the majority of the action took place within its walls. But, never mind, it still screams summer.
So, make your Summer of ‘22 one to remember by adding The Hotel Nantucket to your tbr for the publication date of June 14th.
I’d like to thank Netgalley US, Little Brown and Company, and Elin Hilderbrand for the e-ARC.
Hilderbrand's summer release signifies the start of summer to me. It is always one of my most anticipated reads. I loved The Hotel Nantucket. It is definitely a favorite of recent years. My favorite of all her novels in The Blue Bistro and this one had some similarities and tie-ins to that one which made me love it even more. The Nantucket setting is magical as always. Now having been there, it's even easier to escape into this town. This was everything I wanted it to be, a must for your beach bag this summer. The only reason I'm sad about it, is that I know we are edging closer and closer to her retirement.
I'd like to thank Netgalley and the Publisher Little Brown and Co. for an opportunity to read and review this book. The Hotel Nantucket is renovated and ready to reopen. This book revolves around the new staff hired to man this new top of the line hotel. Some have mysterious backgrounds and some are trying to get a fresh start. I always enjoy reading about Nantucket and all of the quirky people who come to visit. I enjoyed this book, I like the way Elin references actual places on the island and also references her previous books for those who are readers of her stories. This book also had a whole section in the back about Nantucket which I loved and it was so cool to read about the island!
Read this if you like: Light beach reads, multiple POVs, historic locations
This is my first read by Elin. I know she is well known for her light fun beach reads. This was good! It was a bit too slow for me and it felt a little longer than it should have been. Still really liked it!
Of course this book takes place at Hotel Nantucket. Over the years it has degraded from a huge success to barely standing. After a tragic fire in 1922 killed 19-year-old chambermaid, Grace Hadley, Hotel Nantucket went downhill.
Now it's been purchased and renovated top to bottom by London billionaire, Xavier Darling. Xavier hires Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton as his general manager. Lizbet, in turn, pulls together a charismatic but inexperienced staff who share the vision of turning the fate of the hotel around.
They face challenges in getting along with one another (and with the guests), in overcoming the hotel's bad reputation, and in surviving the (mostly) harmless shenanigans of Grace Hadley herself. I love the little twist of the ghost that wants her murder solved.
We focus mostly on Lizbet while she tries to manage the hotel and attempt to get a 5 key rating from a reviewer that has never given one. There are a lot of obstacles, even from the owner himself.
I like how the POV changes around to different people in the story. Sometimes this confuses me but it was easy to follow. I really enjoyed it. Grab this June 14th or pre-order now!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Little, Brown and Company for the gifted copy! ❤️
This is definitely a summer, beach-read book, with the setting in summertime Nantucket at a brand-new, luxury hotel. There’s some romance, a few liaisons,, a fair amount of mystery and intrigue, a couple precocious kids, a couple villains and many good, if misunderstood, characters, and even a ghost. It’s a quick, engaging read and I did like the ghost point-of-view passages. I didn’t find any of the characters terribly riveting though, including the main character Lizbet. Maybe the quantity of characters didn’t allow for any of them to be very developed. The setting and the multiple storylines kept this one interesting for me. I only wish I’d been on a beach while reading it!
Thank you for our copy of The Hotel Nantucket. This book is available on June 14th.
𝑹𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: 3.5-4 ⭐️
𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒆 : Fiction
𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: Our go-to author for summer is always Elin Hilderbrand. We wait all year for her books!
For her new book, The Hotel Nantucket, I enjoyed the quirky cast of characters in this book, but there was just a few too many for us. I was left wanting more detail about specific storylines. I always love Elin’s writing but for me this book wasn’t a top pic of hers. Still, I can’t wait for her next release!
I will also say we are in the minority in this one! Most all other reviews are 5 ⭐️ for this book, so I still recommend grabbing this one!
𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝑰𝒇:
🍉 You love Elin Hilderbrand
🍉 You love books with multiple characters
🍉 You are looking for a beach read
This is Elin’s final book and she went out in the best way. The writing showed her love of Nantucket and several characters/places from her prior books were included in this book. The rebuilding of an old hotel is a great story. Each character has a background that affects them in someway in the story. It’s a delightful read when you want to escape real life!
You know it's summer when Elin Hilderbrand has her newest novel out! A big thanks to the publisher for an advanced ebook copy and it was a fun surprise that @bookofthemonth chose The Hotel Nantucket for June too!
I really loved The Hotel Nantucket! It was fascinating to read about the behind the scenes at a luxury hotel! There were a lot of characters to keep track of but I really liked seeing how all of their stories wove together. Romance wasn't as major of a theme in this book but there is some. I was a little worried about the ghost storyline but I liked how Grace was incorporated.
This book felt like a love letter to Nantucket and I love at the end we got The Blue Book with Nantucket recommendations! It was fun to see the notes of which books mentioned which places. One of these days I'll get to Nantucket and I'll appreciate these notes even more!
Well it is officially the start of summer, I have read my first official beach read and my annual Elin Hilderbrand book. I look forward to her books every year, it marks the beginning of summer, time for rest and relaxation. The Mom Uber comes to a halt and a slower more human lifestyle can begin.
What better way to kick it off than reading about London billionaire, Xavier Darling, buying and rebuilding an abandoned hotel on Nantucket Island. Refurbishing the hotel to be the most stunning and extravagant hotel on the island, all with the purpose of trying to achieve the highest rating of five keys from the exclusive hotel reviewer, Shelly Carpenter. Xavier hires Nantucket local Lizbet Keaton as the hotel’s general manager to ensure that this impossible task is achieved. Lizbet hires an eclectic group for the hotel staff, each person seems to have a hidden secret or demon from their past that they are trying to overcome. To top things off, it seems that the hotel is haunted, by a chambermaid that had died in a fire at the hotel many years ago. At the conclusion of the book, Elin Hilderbrad also includes her own guide to Nantucket. Where to stay, where to eat, where to buy books! Definitely the insider’s guide.
PROs: Fast paced, great summer read, does not disappoint, and beautiful Nantucket setting! Definitely the leap into summer that I needed.
CONs: There were only two minor things that kept this book from being an out of the park home run for me. 1) This is the second Elin Hilderbrand book in a row that includes a super natural character, just like Golden Girl. 2) There were alot of characters in this book, it was hard at times to keep track of them all. Unfortunately, I found only a few of the characters likable.
If you look forward to Elin Hilderbrand’s books every year, as I do, you will not be disappointed.
Once again, Elin Hilderbrand delivers a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s about a hotel in Nantucket that’s renovated back to its original splendor. Without giving away any spoilers, it focuses on the guests and the employees of the hotel. Everyone’s got a secret! A little romance, drama, mystery, and historical fiction. And an amazing bonus chapter at the end should you decide to take a trip to Nantucket. You won’t regret reading this!
Once again Elin Hilderbrand does not disappoint. The book mentions some familiar characters that are in her other books. (The other books do not need to be read before this.) It is comforting to read her stories and feel a familiarity to the characters and places mentioned. I think this is the reason, she is my most favorite author, which I have mentioned before in other reviews.
This book had a twist with the characters and I am hoping that I can “visit” the Nantucket Hotel next summer. The end of the book sort of eludes that we may be back. I always enjoy a happy ending and this book has that, and it concludes the story without feeling you hanging.
I dislike reviews that give away too much information, read the book, and you will get immersed in the characters and the places. Elin writes with such detail that you feel that you are there. Perfect time of year for a beach read.
Hilderbrand is an auto-read for me, so I happily picked this up! The setting was lovely and no surprise- Nantucket! The hotel, however, was a new venture, and I enjoyed all its various aspects.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This is a *very* weak four. I seriously considered rounding down from 3.5 or so to a 3, rather than rounding up. However, there is some value to Hilderbrand’s writing in being a guilty pleasure, and a quick read.
Going into the book, knowing there’s a ghost involved in the storyline, I expected some implausibility, but too many of the situations were just a little too convenient.
The story hinges primarily on Lizbet, rebuilding her life, and bringing the hotel to life. Lizbet is from Minnesota; so am I. Not only did I find the constant name and location dropping distracting (if we aren’t going back to visit Lizbet’s hometown in Minnesota, why do we need the detail of the name of the town, the name of her elementary school, etc? And I’m sorry - she wears long blond braids and says “youbetcha” if she’s had too much to drink? I can’t think this will be endearing to too many Minnesotans.
The last 10% of the book is a guide to Nantucket. I doubt I’ll ever use it, though someone might. I’d rather have recipes for some of the food described.
Overall, probably would have been almost a guilty pleasure if this Minnesotan wasn’t so annoyed.
The Hotel Nantucket is Elin Hilderbrand at her best. This was the perfect book to kick off summer with and get me thinking about upcoming vacations. I loved the characters and getting to know each of their backstories and perspectives. I also liked that while there was a love story, it didn’t take center stage. Finally, there was a touch of magical realism, that managed to be believable and not too over the top and was sprinkled through the book *just enough*.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about beach towns, summer jobs, fine dining and luxury hotels, and ghosts! Thank you to netgalley and to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
