I have read quite a few Elin Hilderbrand novels. She always introduces interesting characters and interesting lives of those characters. The Hotel Nantucket was no exception. While I haven't always loved all of Elin's books or all the characters, for the most part I enjoyed this book and it kept my attention as you followed the lives of the hotel workers and guests throughout the summer as a new hotel is opened on the island. Every time I read one of Elin's books it makes me want to visit Nantucket so much! It was a nice treat to read this book and imagine myself in summer in Nantucket while struggling through another snowstorm in Wisconsin during the winter!
When one of your favorite authors has a book on NetGalley and you're lucky enough to get an ARC, you promptly devour that book in a day! Thank goodness for those rainy days when you don't feel as guilty for not being able to put a book down. I loved The Hotel Nantucket. It was a quick read with characters I quickly became invested in and simply could not put down. You can never go wrong with an Elin Hilderbrand novel!
Elin Hildebrand is a gem! This gorgeous story features quirky characters, amazing plot twists and ghosts! Need. I say more?
This is your typical Elin book. You know what you're going in to read and you won't be disappointed. She's nailed down the genre and while she's not always the most original she's definitely got another page turner on her hands.
Another classic Elin Hildebrand summer beach read, with equal parts history & mystery. Enjoyed this one & made me nostalgic for Nantucket!
3.5!
Elin Hilderbrand never disappoints, in my opinion. "The Hotel Nantucket" was no exception. I love how she seamlessly links past stories and characters into this new tale. For me personally, the addition of a ghost and a precocious Nancy Drew reading girl just made the story even better. I looked forward to reading it every day and was legitimately sad to see it end. Elin makes me want to follow her footsteps in Nantucket. Until my budget allows me to do that, her fabulous story telling will have to do. I so appreciate the opportunity to have received an advance copy of this book. Long live Elin Hilderbrand!
I look forward to every summer when Elin Hilderbrand releases her new book. I really loved this one. It did take me a while to get into it, but that's mostly because life happens and I was able to spend the time reading it. But once I got many pages in, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend!
Cute quick read. I thoroughly enjoyed the imagery of the hotel and the stories of the guests and workers. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting, but it was a lovely story full of likeable characters.
Elin Hilderbrand is just a gem of a writer, and this book is no different.
The Hotel Nantucket has been in a fire, and is supposedly haunted. Barely making it, and on the verge of closing, Elizabeth has the task of bringing this historic building back to life. Through creativity of a child, and the amazing staff that works here, slowly life is brought back to the hotel, with families, guests, and secret connections falling into place.
I enjoyed this one very much. The characters were well developed, the plot developed, and twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
This book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review. This is written by a famous talented author. Nantucket is the setting...the setting becomes a character. The characters (the people) in the book are likable...some not so much...others just there...the places written about become almost a travel book...for those interested in visiting this area, this book would be a must. Some of the scenes are explicit and maybe should be left out. I don't enjoy books with ghosts, but the ghost in this book becomes real...the ending is a surprise...not my favorite
I saved this book for a beach vacation and it definitely did not disappoint. I loved everything about it and cannot imagine that the Hotel Nantucket doesn't actually exist. The descriptions of the food are amazing and I eould pay almost anything to try that Bakery box of treats.
great book in true elin style. a love from the first page. engaging. descriptive of the setting. fun characters. didn't put it down till finished. great read any time, book club worthy, beach worthy, anytime worthy. thanks for the read!!! i recommend it!
Loved, loved this book. For what it is, a chocolate and popcorn book that most others call a hot summer read. An easy five stars for me.
The writing is smooth and almost luxurious and easy to drop into the fictive dream. This is because of the great writing craft. The author maintains several plot lines juggling them with skill and verve. But what is really impressive about this story is the micro-conflicts that come and go, branches to the main trunk.
The setup or conflict is rooted in a damaged love story, the main character’s heart is unjustly crushed by a long-time boyfriend. Add to this the start-up of a refurbished hotel that the new owner wants it to meet the highest standards on Nantucket island. There is a mystery hotel reviewer that holds sway and is pandered for a five-star review. A status not unlike a Michelin
Throw into the mix a ghost. Yes, a ghost, but this apparition is only used as spice and to reveal past information that helps give the hotel equal weight as a main character. Which is difficult to do. The trials and tribulations are buried in the relationships that interact in and around the hotel. They swirl and ebb in such away the reader can’t look away and is tugged along in a most favorable way. The author flirts with maudlin and melodrama but never crosses that line.
Let me start by saying I love Elin Hilderbrand novels! This one was a little....strange. I'm not sure if it's the novel itself or if it was my headspace. But I had a really hard time with the amount of characters in this book. Are there always that many characters in these novels? I'm not sure. Now recognize that only a handful actually matter but if you get easily confused and really want to know who everyone is referring to then you might get a little caught up with that. Also this novel is VERY slow to start. A good chunk of the novel revolves around whether the hotel will earn the 5th key from the great Shelly Carpenter and I did guess who SC was before it was revealed-though not by much! So bravo to Elin for that! There's also another twist that I didn't see. I loved the ending and I really felt that all of the characters showed amazing growth throughout the novel!
I wouldn't really classify this book as romance-at least not the typical romance you usually find in Elin Hilderbrand novels. Of course there IS romance just not to that level! This book does have a ghost story in it but not in a creepy horror type of way. Over all not my favorite Elin novel but I still enjoyed it just the same.
Thank you Netgalley & Little, Brown and company for an eARC of The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand. Elin is described as the queen of beach reads, and she certainly is! Her books are great to pick up whether it’s a hot summer’s day, or you’re looking to escape the cold and snowy winter.
This story takes you through Lizbet Keaton’s experience when’s he is given the opportunity to be the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket. She has to get in the good graces of the others there, though, and deal with the past events of the hotel. Elin does a great job of making you feel like you’re at the hotel and living within the world of these characters with multiple storylines.
Unfortunately this one didn’t do it for me personally. I typically love Elon’s books but the whole “ghost” thing didn’t cut it for me. I feel like she was trying to add a spin on her typical style but I wasn’t a fan. On to the next one of Hilderbrand!
It's not summer without a new Elin book and I was lucky to snag this on NetGalley. I recently read The Beach Club, which was her first novel and also about a hotel. The Hotel Nantucket is different and definitely shows how far she's come as an author. I loved the employees, the guests, the ghost aspect, the Cobblestone Telegraph, and of course the Nantucket setting. There are little mysteries sprinkled throughout - what happened that Long Shot is running from? Who is the second woman Xavier wants to impress? And of course, who is Shelby Carpenter? I was wrong on all accounts, which is not a complaint.
At the back of the book is an enormous guidebook of Elin's recommendations for visiting Nantucket and I would love to go there some day and see everything she mentions in her books.
Beach Read queen Elin Hilderbrand is back with her 27th novel of impossibly beautiful and wealthy people leading wildly messy lives. The Hotel Nantucket, as its title suggests, is set in a luxury hotel on Nantucket. The titular hotel is a Gilded Age property that has been recently renovated after decades of neglect. Mysterious billionaire Xavier Darling purchased the hotel with the goal of attaining the elusive 5 Key review from mysterious hotel review influencer Shelly Carpenter. Hotel Manager Lizbet Keaton, seeking a fresh start after ending a longterm relationship, assembles a team of employees — many of whom harbor dramatic secrets of their own — to bring 5 Key service to the hotel guests. We learn that many of the hotel’s top employees are seeking fresh starts after past mistakes, we meet the hotel’s resident ghost — a beautiful young maid who was killed in a 1920s fire, and we cheer Lizbet on as she embarks on a new romance. It’s the perfect escapist summer read.
The Hotel Nantucket is the quintessential Elin Hilderbrand novel, as refreshing and decadent as a lobster roll and a glass of Sancerre. The callbacks to characters like realtor Fast Eddie Pancik from The Rumor or Mack Peterson from The Beach Club feel logical and organic, and the storylines tie together for a charming tale of second chances and new beginnings. Previous knowledge of Ms. Hilderbrand’s works isn’t necessary to enjoy the book, but I highly recommend reading The Blue Bistro before this one for some background information.
5 ⭐️ for Elin!
I loved that this book was so different than other things I had read. The story was intricate and deep.
Somehow, my first Elin Hildenbrand novel... but absolutely not my last. The Hotel Nantucket was a smart, charming beach read, transporting me to Nantucket past and present with an intricate web of characters, enough detail to make me long for a visit to a hotel as perfect as the fictional Hotel Nantucket, and a slow-burning plot that let the characters and setting shine through without ever being boring.
