I never wanted this book to end!! Its screaming for a sequel - PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Or a stand alone book just on the ghost.... please
Xavier Darling and Company
If you’re looking for a beach-read from a seasoned author who knows how to craft her characters and then weave them into a fast-moving plot, this would be a great book for you.
Hilderbrand paints a clever story, using her hometown, Nantucket. A forgotten hotel is bought by Xavier Darling (yes, that’s his name) and he plans to rebuild, furnish, and create the best hotel, one to earn five keys (think 5 stars) from a well-known hotel blogger, who apparently has only awarded four keys to any hotel.
The remodel takes place, staff is hired and, of course, the clever happenstance occurs. Lizbet Keaton, a beautiful, smart woman with restaurant, staffing and overall management experience is hired to interview prospective staff and oversee this dazzling remodel. She has never met Xavier Darling; he communicates with via phone and email.
There are multiple storylines played out. There is the ghost Grace Hadley, who died in the hotel’s fire in 1922. Romance and quirky characters are thrown in. There seemed to be a new characterization in every chapter. It became laborious to me but for fans of Hilderbrand who know they will enjoy reading about sex, sexy women, bad and good lovers, and undercover guests woven into a long narrative about the hotel business with an emphasis on sex appeal and best places to eat.
My gratitude to Net Galley and Little, Brown and Company for this pre-published book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Always good for the soul. Loved the descriptive details and imagery. I couldn’t get enough of the crazy hotel guests. I would recommend. Perfect beach read.
Currently manifesting that I’m in Nantucket after reading this extremely atmospheric read. Elin Hilderbrand never disappoints in delivering a deliciously descriptive contemporary romance book. I loved the nod to hospitality, the complex character dynamics, the drama and the picturesque summer mystic. I also especially loved that this book has a travel guide of fun things to do, eat, see and be seen!
Hilderbrand gonna Hilderbrand, and that's not a bad thing! I liked the ambiance and the characters. I enjoyed the resolution of who Shelly Carpenter was, without it being a whole focused mystery.
"The Hotel Nantucket" encompasses absolutely everything I love about Elin Hilderbrand. The storyline touches on mysteries, histories, and unexpected relationships. Hilderbrand is an expert at making you feel like you're part of the everyday life of Nantucket, and this novel is the perfect depiction of that. PLUS! The Blue Book at the end pretty much made my day!
This was a stellar novel, all around!
I have read Elin Hilderbrand off and on for years and after reading her latest, THE HOTEL NANTUCKET I had to kick myself for not reading more from her over the last few years! I was reminded of how much I love her writing style, how her books transport you to Nantucket. How you can visualize yourself walking along the cobblestone roads, eating delicious food at a Bistro, and hanging out at the Chicken Box. I have been in love with her books for so long I was able to finally check a trip off my bucket list in October of 2021. My husband and I traveled from California to Martha’s Vineyard, taking a day trip to Nantucket. It was magical and everything I pictured when I read her books.
I really connected with the cast of characters in this book. My favorite being the ghost Grace, who has been haunting the hotel for over 100 years (she is a nice ghost). The playlists the author added were a plus! The story is perfectly paced, and I was very satisfied with the ending. I couldn’t stop smiling for days after finishing this book! It gave me all the good feels. That is what her books do to your soul! Add this book to the top of your list if you are looking for a perfect beach read! Elin knocked it out of the park with this one!
Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown & Company for my e-ARC.
I LOVED this book. For years I have heard about Elin Hilderbrand and I cannot understand how it took me so long to finally read a book by this talented author. THE HOTEL NANTUCKET is entertaining, heartfelt, humorous, inventive, and satisfying. The protagonist of Lisbet is going through a crisis and reinvents herself as the GM of a newly renovated hotel on the island she loves. Every character has so much history, secrets and obstacles they want to hide or overcome, and the summer season in a gorgeous hotel seems just the place to rewrite their stories.
The most unique part of the book is that one of the key characters is Grace, a ghost, who died in a fire on the property many decades before. Her omnipresence, need to be acknowledged, and ultimately her support for this new team reviving a once beautiful gem, is refreshing and charming.
LOVED this book.
Do you believe in ghost? The former Hotel Nantucket is rumored for years to have a resident ghost. Could it be true? For years no one has been able to make a success of the hotel that is until Xavier Darling needs a new project and money is not an object. Lizbet is looking for her second act and gets hired to oversee the renovation and opening of the Hotel. The goal is to make the Hotel Nantucket the destination location on the island. Lizbet loves the island and the hotel, Xavier just wants the illusive 5th key from Shelly Carpenter travel critic. What happens in between these things is what makes the book so much fun. There is a 6 year old child chess prodigy, and young girl that loves Nancy Drew that writes a story about the hotel's ghost. This gets the hotel on everyone's radar and booking fill up. You will have to check in to see if they get that 5th key or not.
This book is lovely. The characters are fully drawn and are a big reason that this book is a win. I want to hug almost all of them! The plot is multi-layered and so expertly woven together, It presents as a completed puzzle at the end. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to read an advanced copy courtesy of NetGalley.
The Hotel Nantucket is making a comeback after decades of tragedy and decline and Lizbet is hired to make it happen. Time is short to turn things around and staffing is a challenge. Add in staffing challenges and a resident ghost and it feels like there is no chance for success. But everything is riding on this one summer, can Lizbet make the hotel a success?
Elin has done it again! Another wonderful book set in Nantucket. She gives such lush descriptions of food and settings that it makes you feel like you're there yourself. In the back of the book, there's actually a list of things to do, eat, and see if you ever go to Nantucket yourself. A wonderful read!
This is my first Erin Hilderbrand novel and I think it has created a fan. After reading a particular rough book it was a breath of fresh air to pick up The Hotel Nantucket. From sumptuous descriptions of interior design to mouth-watering details about food, this book had me wanting to pack up and fly to Nantucket immediately.
I thoroughly enjoyed the twisting and turning of the story and getting to know all of the characters. Hilderbrand does a seamless job of moving between each perspective and keeping the suspense going on all sorts of fronts (ghosts? romances? crime? it's all there!).
While it doesn't quite have the readability it would need for a second read through (something I think about when giving five stars) I will say that Hilderbrand has found a new fan in me. I should have known she's popular for a reason!
I love Elin Hilderbrand books and this one was no different. It took me a few chapters to get into it, but was I was, I was hooked. Taking place in Nantucket once again, it will be a perfect beach read!!
Outstanding! How does Elin do it, year after year? This book, with many characters and also a spirit was amazing. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters, especially Grace. There is a huge turn of events in the end but it ends well…I was satisfied! The only regret I have is that it’s over. This book was given to me in trade for my honest review. Thank you to Netgalley.com and Elin Hilderbrand for the opportunity. I loved every second of this book.
Over the past few years Elin Hildebrand has become one of my favorite authors so when I discovered she had a new book coming out I was thrilled. Hotel Nantucket, like all of her books, is set on the charming island of Nantucket and once again Elin does an incredible job of transporting the reader into this idyllic world - summer on Nantucket.
The beginning of the book felt a little bit slow and it took awhile for me to get into it, which is unusual BUT once the book started moving I enjoyed discovering the ins and outs of the hotel and the characters that lived and worked there.
I loved that Mark from Blue Bistro was ‘back’ and had a full story line as he is one of my all time favorites. Grace’s commentary was funny and insightful and moved the story along and I loved seeing what surprises and twists and turns came about.
Overall a great summer read!
Elin Hilderbrand has done it again! The Hotel Nantucket is the perfect summer read full of completely likable characters in an amazing setting.
A renovated upscale hotel on Nantucket is the backdrop for this character driven novel. You’ll find yourself rooting for Lisbet as well as the other hotel staffers as they open the hotel for the summer season. Not surprisingly, everyone has a backstory, looking for redemption or hiding a mysterious past. Throw in a ghost story and some history from the 1920’s and you have a fun novel.
I enjoyed everything about this book. The characters are believable and interesting. The setting on Nantucket is perfect (there is even an epilogue that includes things to see and do there). This is a fun read with just enough twists and turns to make it a page turner.
I was really excited about The Hotel Nantucket. Like many of Elin's books, there are recurring characters and callbacks to previous books. In this case, there were references to two of my favorites - The Beach Club and The Blue Bistro, earlier novels from the author's career. Unfortunately, while I really enjoyed this book, it didn't live up to those earlier novels, and probably won't be making it into my top favorites list anytime soon.
That being said, it's still a really enjoyable read! My biggest quibble was that there was just too much going on - too many characters, too many mysteries, too many hidden secrets.
Grace is the ghost that lives at the newly renovated Nantucket Hotel. Lizbet is the hotel manager tasked with running it. The owner lives in London and he wants to hotel to be the first to receive 5 keys (think stars) from a famous, but unknown, internet reviewer. Lizbet struggles to hire staff, everyone hired seems likely to struggle, the hotel struggles with occupancy, and Lizbet struggles over a recent breakup. Through in Grace, the ghost, and have a great time reading this novel!
A great light read! I love all of Elin’s books and the fact that they are told from multiple perspectives. Perfect for the beach!
