I loved this easy read by Elin Hilderbrand.. The storyline was fun, and very enjoyable. The characters were unique and quirky. I always look forward to the authors books, and this one did not disappoint.
Exactly what I expect from Elin Hilderbrand; a great story, interesting people and the beach in the background! I love the ability to escape on a weekday to Nantucket with a story that entertains and engages without me having to work for any of it! The author is the queen of easy reading, and her powers of description are strong; the food parts had me seriously drooling! This is a light read but it is not in any way condescending or talking down to the reader. There are so many characters and subplots that you might want to watch the marguerita intake and stay alert in case you miss something. I enjoy the references made to characters and locations from previous novel as it seems to add to the whole escaping to the island vibe for me.
Maybe this book was a bit longer than the usual? Took a few sittings for me to finish. Some of the plot lines were a bit predictable and I needed a break occasionally. My favorite part was the real Blue Book at the end – I will be purchasing a hard copy to get my hands on that for when I do get to visit Nantucket.
Thank you Little Brown and Company, Net Galley & Elin Hilderband for this Advanced Reading Copy.
I enjoyed the multiple points of view although I am not a fan of the collective chorus. It does serve its purpose of letting us imagine what the islanders are seeing. I love the ghost, Grace, and the historical subplot. I know some reviewers were put off by the paranormal aspect of this book compared to others, but I thought it added to the fun. I appreciated the fact that it is a very young female guest who takes up the charge to find out what happened all those years ago. The fact that this helped with the hotel’s occupancy rate seems highly plausible to me. We get to inhabit a fantastic hotel setting that seems like somewhere I can imagine happily staying. I enjoyed the author’s comments at the end as to the real-life hotel upon which it was based.
I am not a romance reader at all but enjoyed the several surface level relationships that developed during this course of this narrative. Lizbeth and her romance with Mario were enjoyed for the food mostly! Kimber and Richie seemed so unlikely that I was pleasantly surprised that it works out for them. Edie and Alessandra’s forced friendship became real as they discovered things in common. I love the Xavier and Ms English relationship most of all and Chad was probably my favorite character! It’s a happy ending for almost all, without being cheesy. I actually was surprised in the end with the Stacey Carpenter reveal.
Overall a beachy, summer feel good book that I would recommend you put in your beach bag and will be purchasing for my sister.
I knew I would love this book because it is Elin Hilderbrand, of course! Although her books publish near or during summer and would be considered a “Summer Read” I think these books are perfect for any time of year. They are so entertaining and her characters are fabulous.
Lizbet Keaton is the general manager at the newly renovated and reopened, Hotel Nantucket. She was hired by a mysterious, Mr. Xavier Darling, whom none of the staff has met yet. Lizbet hires the rest of the staff and they are absolute gems. Each one of them is fascinating in their own right. Even the guests are people I actually wanted to meet! The way Elin writes made me want to be a guest at the hotel too. I felt that I was missing out on the experience!
The hotel is rumored to be haunted as Grace Hadley is said to have died in a hotel fire 100 years ago. This brings in more hotel guests and is a good part of the story. I think Grace is my favorite character. Each character has their own story and we move along throughout the story watching things play out for each of them.
Hotel Nantucket is all genres in one and includes such fun-loving, whimsical, dramatic, mysterious characters I didn’t want the story to end. She also pops in some other Nantucket favorites from past books! Another 5 star book for Elin Hilderbrand!
Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for the ARC of this book.
Just finished this one and know I will be thinking about the characters for awhile! I love the unique viewpoint of Grace and how she has her own opinions, but was also very non biased or judge mental for being from a much different time. The women in this book were all over the place personality wise and lines were crossed and blurred constantly, but somehow there was also forgiveness and empathy portrayed multiple times. I felt like I was in the hotel as a guest with a behind the scenes pass to spy on the staff! Can this hotel please be real?! It sounds so stunning! I would definitely recommend this book!
Elin Hilderbrand is back with her classic style. The Hotel Nantucket will be the perfect book for your summer beach bag if you are a fan of Hilderbrand's previous work. And this one won't make you cry as hard as 28 Summers. Will I remember the plot of this forever? No. But I'm glad I read it because it was perfect escapist reading and I enjoyed the experience immensely.
A light, fun novel with a mostly likeable cast of characters and their personal intrigues, including the ghost of the chambermaid killed in a fire at the hotel in 1922.
After the fire, the hotel was bought by various owners and became increasingly seedy and rundown until it’s purchased by a British billionaire. He hires Lizbet to be the office manager, and she’s tasked with hiring the best employees she can. Some employees are hiding secrets, but as staff for the hotel, they’re all determined to do their best, not just because of the $1000 a week bonus the millionaire sends based on feedback from guests as to which staff member went above and beyond, but also because of the illusive social media influencer who gives up to 5 keys for the best accommodations, though the person has famously never given more than four. The person’s identity is unknown, so with each guest and their demands, the staff members do their best and wonder if this guest is the one that might hold the fate of the hotel in their hands.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this novel, which RELEASES JUNE 14, 2022.
REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌟
I have to begin by stating my undying love for all things Elin Hildebrand. Her books are an auto buy for me, and no summer is complete without one. The Hotel Nantucket is no different in that regard! It was a super fun read for me, and although Nantucket Island is the setting, it has a different feel than her others - in a fun way. Variety is the spice of life right?
Synopsis from the publisher: Fresh off a bad breakup with a longtime boyfriend, Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton is desperately seeking a second act. When she’s named the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a once Gilded Age gem turned abandoned eyesore, she hopes that her local expertise and charismatic staff can win the favor of their new London billionaire owner, Xavier Darling, as well as that of Shelly Carpenter, the wildly popular Instagram tastemaker who can help put them back on the map. And while the Hotel Nantucket appears to be a blissful paradise, complete with a celebrity chef-run restaurant and an idyllic wellness center, there’s a lot of drama behind closed doors. The staff (and guests) have complicated pasts, and the hotel can’t seem to overcome the bad reputation it earned in 1922 when a tragic fire killed nineteen-year-old chambermaid Grace Hadley. With Grace gleefully haunting the halls, a staff harboring all kinds of secrets, and Lizbet’s own romantic uncertainty, is the Hotel Nantucket destined for success or doom?.
While it is true that Lizbet is the protagonist of this story, the book reads more like a character sketch. Every delightful character - all employees or guests of the hotel - plays a major role in their OWN story, and you are completely in their corner. I was invested and rooting for each and every one, flaws and all. Light and fun, even Grace the ghost is completely loveable, and you laugh and cheer at her antics along the way.
There are several playlists throughout the book that I hope will find their way to Spotify upon the book’s release. They would be fun to listen to in order to set the vibe while you read.
I recommend this book to readers who love character driven books, light summer romance, and all things Hildebrand.
Release date is June 14, 2022.
Note: Thank you to Elin Hildebrand, Hachette Book Group, and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have read many of Elin Hilderbrand's books and I found The Hotel Nantucket decidedly different. This book is the story of the reopening/redesign/and renewal of a historic motel in Nantucket. Its owner is a billionaire and he is trying to impress a couple of women, one is a hotel blogger and one who rates hotels and places to stay all over the world. A five key rate is the elusive best rating never given by the "rater" and much desired by the owner... The other woman he wants to impress is revealed in the last of the book. This story is told thru the eyes of the resident ghost, Grace. She has haunted the building since her demise in a fire years ago. Her haunting is due to the events that surround her death. She takes delight in the hotel's renewal and watches over the staff and visitors to The Hotel Nantucket.
The setting for this book is as always in Hilderbrand's books delightful. The area bars and restaurants are part of the story and are much described in the book. The characters are fun and read and as a reader, I wished for more from them at times....they are many and varied. I was left wondering about several at the books end. This is an excellent beach read and a good hotel story. It was not the usual romance from Hilderbrand so in that I was disappointed. It is however a good story. Thanks to #NetGalley#TheHotel Nantucket for this trip to The Hotel Nantucket and a good read.
As always, this would be a great beach or by the pool read to add even more imagery to the story. An old hotel on Nantucket with drama as it’s history gets a full remodel, and a group of people with their own stories spend the summer making it a success. I really did get invested with the characters and look forward to the next one in the series. I will admit, at first I was not sure how I would handle there being a ghost in the plot (yes, there is a young female ghost), but she fit in well with her own story and also helped with the hotel celebration.
I was given an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
What a perfect summer read! This is my first Elin Hildebrand book and I was not disappointed at all! The story line was entertaining and the characters were so likable. With a bit of romance, humor, scandal and even a ghost, this book has it all.
With Ms. Hildebrand’s flair for picturesque descriptions I found myself transported to the idyllic island of Nantucket and not wanting to leave. Talk about charming! If you’re as enamored as me you’ll find yourself googling flights and Airbnbs in Nantucket after reading this book.
Check out The Hotel Nantucket when it’s out in June! Thank you Little, Brown and Company for the advanced copy and to Elin Hilderbrand for what will sure be the perfect beach read of the summer!
Another homerun by Elin Hilderbrand, I personally feel that this is my favorite book yet by her. It has everything for a great story, family dynamics, bad decision making skills, and Island with history, and a ghost! This was just a fun read, very easy to get into and absorbed in the story itself. Perfect summer read, yet I feel this would do very well with a book club, it has characters that most can identify with, personally or impersonally. I also love the fact that I know of most of the main characters in her books, its like coming home to a great family when reading these.
It won't be summer without an Elin Hilderbrand book so I'm savoring them while they last! I always enjoy a well written book with overlapping story lines and this one fit the bill nicely. The characters were intriguing, complicated, and realistic. The bonus travel guide at the end was well written as well!
I was so excited to see another Elin Hilderbrand book come out in time for the summer because her books are the perfect beach read. The Hotel Nantucket is no exception. Like all of Hilderbrand's books, The Hotel Nantucket features a cast of quirky characters and loads of references to daily life in Nantucket. Even better-Hilderbrand's even included her own travel guide to the island which I hope gets published as a stand-alone for people who want to visit the island one day. Definitely a fun summer read (or in my case, a bit of sunshine while it's still cold and gloomy).
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
What a perfect beach read! I felt instantly transported to the newly renovated Hotel Nantucket. I really loved all the characters, especially Lizbet. I was surprised about the ghost who haunts one of the floors, but that was a fun addition! Hilderbrand's writing transports you to lovely Nantucket, it feels as if you are there!
Elin Hilderbrand does it again with a wonderful novel about The Hotel Nantucket! From the hotel employees to the guests to the ghost who haunts the 4th floor, the characters all add to the interesting summer at the hotel. A must read for fans of Elin Hilderbrand! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Elin Hilderbrand is always an instant read for me. This was much different than her other books that I've read, but was still such a comfort read. We have many points of view throughout the novel, one of which is a ghost named Grace that haunts the Hotel Nantucket.
Lizbet is just coming out of a terrible breakup with a guy who was also her business partner. She is looking for a fresh start, professionally and romantically. She scores the job of general manager at the newly restored Hotel Nantucket, under the ownership of billionaire Mr. Darling. Their main goal this summer is to get the highly sought after "Five Key" recommendation from an elusive travel blogger only known as Shelly Carpenter.
This story also follows several other hotel employees and guests throughout their summer leading up to the review. If you're a Hilderbrand fan, I highly recommend The Hotel Nantucket for your next beach read!
Thank you to NetGalley, Elin Hilderbrand, and Little Brown and Company for the ARC.
Nobody does Nantucket the way Elin Hilderbrand does! This summer, she’s bringing you to the newly renovated Hotel Nantucket. Local darling Lizbet Keaton is at the helm as the general manager, and there’s a charming cast of characters to lend their viewpoints (and secrets!) to the scene. Faithful Hildebrand readers will see some familiar faces, make some new friends, and even encounter a friendly ghost while experiencing the hotel’s first season.
“The Hotel Nantucket” is classic Hilderbrand – her descriptions of time and place are completely immersive and nothing short of lyrical. I felt like I was a guest at the sumptuous new hotel: I could practically feel the plush luxury of the hydrangea-blue throw blanket from Nantucket Looms on the custom-size emperor bed, and could perfectly imagine the glittering copper disco ball in the Blue Bar. Her luscious descriptions of food and cocktails are positively mouth-watering; I felt like I was sitting at the bar drinking a Heartbreaker while noshing on Mario’s inventive small plates.
Tuck this summer’s best beach read in your tote bag to enjoy while your toes are in the sand and let the Queen of the Beach Read instantly transport you to Nantucket’s pristine shoreline! Many thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for providing me an advance copy of this book.
Reading "The Hotel Nantucket" is the closest that most of us will get to spending the summer at a luxury hotel on Nantucket, but Elin Hilderbrand does her best to make her readers feel that they are there! This is an interesting story about an old, abandoned hotel that is purchased and refurbished (by a man who has never even been to the island, a fact that is unsettling to many residents). The story follows the lives of the hotel's staff and their guests from opening day to the end of the season, with a particular focus on the legendary ghost who haunts the hotel. The ghost story is a fun narrative thread, especially due to the 8 year old, Nancy Drew-reading hotel guest who who makes it her mission to solve the mystery. The pop culture references and abundant details of life on Nantucket--shops and restaurants and bars and beaches--that are the trademarks of Hilderbrand's books are present here as well. Loyal readers will love this book, and new readers will enjoy a fast and fun taste of island life.
The perfect beach or travel read! I had never read anything by Elin Hilderbrand before, and here this is her 28th novel. This is also not my normal type of book, but it immediately caught my attention and I was hooked the entire time.
The Hotel Nantucket is about a new hotel opening and basically, a bunch of people with secrets and baggage are either running the place or staying in it. But that makes it so much more interesting!
Elin did a fantastic job drawing me into life on the island. I’ve never been to Nantucket, but each chapter introduced me to restaurants, sites, and local flavor. You really can’t help but like all the characters (even when they are supposed to be annoying).
I started reading this book on a flight yesterday, and it helped make the time pass quickly. I also appreciated the character growth throughout the three months depicted in the book.
There is romance, business, family, relationships, summer fun and more depicted in these pages. I will be seeking out more books by this author for sure.
Thank you NetGalley!
My favorite thing to do every year is to lay in the sun and read the New Elin Hilderbrand book that just hit the shelves. I was lucky to be able to read Elin’s newest novel The Hotel Nantucket early, and as always it did not disappoint.
The Hotel Nantucket is similar to her other novels in that it takes place on the beautiful island of Nantucket in the summer months. The Hotel Nantucket was recently bought and renovated as one of “hot spots” of the summer. The story line follows main character Lizbet and the rest of the hotel staff, as they navigate the busy summer months pleasing tourists and earning star reviews. The only problem, there is a ghost that passed away in that hotel that haunts the staff and guests. The novel has a little bit of haunting, summer romance, and guest challenges, that keeps the story moving at a relatively fast pace.
One of my favorite parts of The Hotel Nantucket is Elin Hilderbrand’s use of imagery. Her description of the food, cocktails and beautiful Nantucket setting immediately takes me to a beach in Nantucket and makes me forget I am sitting on a lawn chair in my backyard. I enjoy how she weaves in characters from old books and adds a nice supernatural touch to the story line. Although this book was not suspenseful or a page turner, it was a feel-good book, a perfect summer beach read. The ending gave me goosebumps and even had some twists and turns that I did not see coming. I’m sure this novel will be on everyone’s beach towel when it hits the book stands June 14th, 2022. Another 5-star book for Elin Hilderbrand and I cannot wait to reread it this summer.
