4.5 ⭐️ rounded up. This is a classic Nantucket beach read from our favourite, Elin Hildebrand. This novel, set in present day (with a touch of flashback to 1922) is full of love, heartbreak, mystery, and intrigue.
The newly hired staff of the Hotel Nantucket all have something in common — they all have secrets that they are trying to hide from. Each character grows and changes as a direct result of their time at the Hotel.
Taking off half of a star because of the Grace story line. Although I loved her character, it didn’t totally seem to fit with the rest of the book. I absolutely loved Lizbet’s character. Maybe it is because we are a similar age, but I found her character extremely relatable.
Thank you to Little, Brown and Company and Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC. This is my honest review.

I absolutely loved every moment I spent reading this treasure of a book that I was fortunate enough to read on the beach! The Hotel Nantucket is like a love-letter to the island and the hospitality industry; I truly enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at a luxury hotel, complete with its own ghost. There is a large cast of characters, but I felt invested in everyone's story; the ending was completely satisying, even though I was sad to say goodbye. It will be so hard to wait until Elin's next book--they are just the best books to get completely lost in, for a totally immersive experience. Highly recommended for your summer reading list! Thank you so much to Netgalley and Little, Brown and Company for the librarian preview!
I mean, it's Elin. Did you have any doubt I would absolutely love this book? The Hotel Nantucket starts out very differently from her typical novels, with a unique style, switching perspectives between characters as she tells the story of an old, dilapidated hotel on our favorite New England island being brought back to life. I couldn’t get enough of this book. It was all there - the romance, the setting, the food (she does such a great job of writing food..it desperately makes me want to eat dinner with her). As our story progresses, we get so many different characters, all bringing their pasts (both good and troubled) to the Hotel Nantucket. A long-term guest, the manager, the head of housekeeping, the famous chef…the list goes on and on. Each one was refreshing and each one was an absolute joy to read.
This one gets all the stars from me. Go ahead and pre-order this one. It comes out June 14, and it will be the book of the summer, I’m sure of it.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company publishing for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I fell in love with books by Elin Hilderbrand when I read The Blue Bistro years and years ago.. Reading The Hotel Nantucket took me back to how I felt about her writing when I read that book. This was a beautiful love letter to Nantucket and a wonderful story of the revival of a hotel. The story focused on numerous characters, all of whom I'd like to read more about. The way Hilderbrand weaves her story, keeps the reader wondering what will happen to those characters next and how they will evolve as the story progresses. There is a ghost (and I was concerned how I would feel about that element);but her story was just as important to the book as any of the human characters. Overall, for me, this is now in my top three books by this author, along with The Blue Bistro and 28 Summers. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Hotel Nantucket was one of my most anticipated books of 2022 and I am so thankful to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. I started reading it as soon as I was approved for a copy, but it took me a few weeks to read the whole thing, which is unusual.
The Hotel Nantucket is a newly renovated hotel in Nantucket, just outside of town, bought up and built out by an English bajillionaire who has never set foot on the island. He wants nothing more than for the hotel to attain the coveted but yet-to-be-awarded “5 key review” by the secret instagram travel reviewer Shelly Carpenter. He hires Nantucket local Lizbet, fresh off a breakup, to manage the hotel. Lizbet hires the staff at the start of the season and the book follows one summer of the hotel’s operation with occasional flashbacks to give more context.
There are a lot of characters in the story, and a lot of different storylines going on. I didn’t have trouble distinguishing the characters and I mostly remembered what was happening each time I picked it up, but it took me a few weeks to finish this one. It felt longer than most of Elin’s other books, and while reading it, I wasn’t invested enough to care what was happening. However, I did enjoy the last ~50ish pages, which amazingly did pull all of the characters and storylines together.
I love a good beach read, and I love that Elin is the queen of beach reads, but this one didn’t read like a beach read for me. I think there was not enough romance and too much going on so I was not motivated to finish it. I’m happy I did finally finish it.
The book includes an extensive recommendation list for things to do on Nantucket (and mentions where different beaches, restaurants, etc. have been referenced in Elin’s books!). In the story, Lizbet makes a similar guide which is given to hotel guests when they check in. Even living in Boston for 13+ years, I’ve never been to Nantucket! I feel like that needs to change, and now I have a great guide to help me plan a visit, even if it’s just a daytrip over on the fast ferry.
Every time I read an Elin Hilderbrand book I think "this is the best yet" and I wonder how in the world she will top it next time. And every time I pick up a new book, there's a feeling of "will I be disappointed" - and EVERY TIME, she blows me away. This one continues in that pattern. The Hotel Nantucket is amazing - one of the absolute best books I've ever read (and I read multiple every week!). The characters are enthralling and fascinating. The plot hooked me immediately. The storyline flows perfectly and there's never a slow moment. I read this book cover to cover in a day because I just could not put it down. I can't recommend this book highly enough!
Thank you NetGalley for the arc of The Hotel Nantucket!
So so happy to be back in Nantucket! It has become one of my favorite book destinations, largely due to Elin’s writing. I love the descriptions of the town, the shops, the beaches, and especially the food!
I thought the characters were well developed, but unfortunately did not find the plot compelling. I was more than a little bored. I was also a little thrown off by the ghost aspect, because Elin’s last book also had a ghost, and I’m not sure if I’m into this trend. It seems an odd choice for a beach read.
That being said, I will continue to read this author!
Thank you NetGalley for this arc of The Hotel Nantucket. It is definitely an enjoyable summer read. It took me a little while longer than I typically like to get into to it but I eventually became intrigued by all the different stories. I didn’t realize how many characters we would be following in this story so that threw me at first. I thought it would be all Lizbet’s story but it was not. However, ultimately I came to care about the multitude of characters. And now I want to visit Nantucket! I’d love to stay at a hotel with a ghost.
Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC of The Hotel Nantucket.
This was a perfect book to escape into during the cold spring I'm having.
Elin Hilderbrand makes you want to travel, and experience all the things Nantucket has to offer.
She even included a guide at the end of the book if you do go!
The Hotel Nantucket is filled with lots of characters and many story lines. Lizbet and Chad were my favorites. I wanted more of their POV. But with there being so many characters I didn't get as many details as I would've wanted with them. There is a supernatural element to the story, similar to one of her other books, Golden Girl.
I was pleased with the reveal, and didn't see it coming.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good beach read
Grace Hadley was a maid at the Hotel Nantucket in 1922 when a fire destroyed the hotel. Grace was the only one unable to escape the fire. Was it murder or an unfortunate accident? Jump forward to 2022. A rich business man from London purchases the hotel and wants it restored to it former glory. He hires Lizbet, our main character, to be general manager and oversee the entire project. The restorations are done and the hotel is open for the season as we hop on the wild ride to join Lizbet, Grace, and the entire staff of Hotel Nantucket for their grand opening season.
The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand is a little bit beachy romance, a little bit ghost story, and an all over feel good story. You can’t help but like the cast of characters. Even when they are doing not-so-good things, you can’t help but root for them. Another excellent story by this author which is what you would expect. An easy read that fans of Hilderbrand will not what to miss. Happy summer reading.
Ever since 28 Summers, I've been a big Elin Hilderbrand fan. 28 Summers is the book that I will recommend over and over again. That being said, I was very excited to read Elin's newest book, The Hotel Nantucket.
✨Brief Summary✨
In 1922, Grace Hadley was killed in a fire in The Hotel Nantucket. Ever since then, the hotel has been rumored to be haunted. However, Xavier, a billionaire, is determined to renovate it and make it the best hotel that Nantucket has to offer. His only goal with his purchase is to impress two women. One of the women is a travel blogger who reviews hotels for a living. She rates each hotel on a sliding scale of keys. No hotel has been able to get five keys, but Xavier is convinced that his hotel can do just that. Xavier hires Lisbet to manage the hotel while he supervises from across seas. Will they be able to get the coveted five keys? What's Lisbet's story? Who will they hire? And what will their guests be like?
✨My Thoughts✨
In true Elin Hilderbrand fashion, there are a million characters to keep track of. At first I found that frustrating. However, once I was able to get to know my main characters, I grew fond of each of them. I loved the guests that stayed for the summer. The little girl who read 46 Nancy Drew novels over the course of the summer reminded me of me 😂
It was such a fun idea to have the novel take place at a hotel. We got to hear the drama and romances of both the hotel staff and the hotel guests. It kind of reminded me of Below Deck, only on land. Yes, I am embarrassed that I watch that LOL.
Elin always does an excellent job of making me wish I was visiting Nantucket. My mom and I love her books so much that we want to plan a vacation out there. And now we CAN! At the end of the book, there's a guide book that gives the best places to stay, the beaches to drive your Jeep onto, and advises us not to order chicken at The Chicken Box.
You're going to want to pick up a copy of The Hotel Nantucket on June 14 to read by the pool 👏
Fun summer read. Typical Hilderbrand story. 3/5. Long time fans of the author will enjoy this. Good character development.
I was so excited about this one because it was my first Elin Hilderbrand book to read and I have several clients that have raved about her! First, I'll say that this is definitely a summer/beach read. It made me ready to go on vacation to Nantucket with all of the rich details of the landscape and food. Seriously ... the food descriptions (insert drooly mouth emoji here). I'm already excited to dig in to more of Elin's books this summer!
As for the book itself, I ended it feeling a bit perplexed. Overall I felt there were too many characters and storylines to keep track of. The endings of each story felt rushed and incomplete which was a bummer because I came to really like all of the characters except for one. In the first half of the book, I struggled quite a bit with how several characters were name dropping today's celebrities in the most odd ways or inserting attempted "woke" elements into their dialogue that just didn't make sense. You know when you're reading a book and you get lost in it where you completely separate that another person is actually writing the story and you just become engrossed in the characters emotions/story as if THEY are the ones writing the book? Yeah, that didn't happen here. I don't know... it just left me feeling like I couldn't decide which storyline I wanted more of and I think it really was a bit of all of them.
Fresh off a bad breakup with a longtime boyfriend, Nantucket local Lizbet Keaton is looking to start anew. When she’s named the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a once coveted hotel turned abandoned eyesore, She hopes that her local expertise and dedicated staff can win the favor of their new London billionaire owner, Xavier Darling, as well as that of Shelly Carpenter, the wildly popular Instagram reviewer who can help put them back on the map. And although all may seem well on the outside there’s a lot of drama behind closed doors. Every staff and guest has a secret and it is a small town after all. But most importantly an old employee is haunting the halls and creating havoc of her own.
If you are a faithful Hilderbrand reader this book will not disappoint. It’s full of well developed characters that you find yourself investing in (even a few show up from her previous books!) It’s all full of summer love, human conflict and a great description of Nantucket that has you wanting to book a flight to escape there now! I wasn’t sure how I would like the ghost element of the story as I’m honestly no supernatural fan but the way she was incorporated brought much heart and laughter and tied the story up really well. My only reason for taking a star was that though it was a great read all around it didn’t pull me in until past the half way mark. I was enjoying it but didn’t have a pull that I wanted to finish it as soon as I could. It did however pick up more in the send half.
Thank you NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
Elin is the Queen of summer roads! Another wonderful glimpse I to Nantucket as the story takes place at a hotel on the island. Old and new characters make an appearance. Of course, a romantic theme is present. A fun read!
Elin is my favorite author or all time. Thank you so much for this advanced copy! I read all of her Christmas books at Christmas time, and the beach reads about this time of year, so I can be ready for her new one. This was another wonderful book. I really enjoyed how she brought past characters in to this story. It's always nice to have follow up. I love the love stories that developed in this hotel, I love the ghost story connection with the little girl. I loved everything about this book. If you are an Elin fan, this is definitely going to be your favorite beach read of 2022.
I love Elin Hilderbrand. I look forward to reading her books every summer, as she is the quintessential summer read for me.
The Hotel Nantucket fits into that summer beach read. Rich with a character driven plot, Elin writes about some interesting people that have descended upon a newly renovated Nantucket Hotel for the summer. Lizbet, the new GM, is looking to make this a perfect place for people to stay, hoping to earn the coveted "5 key review" from a renowned hotel reviewer. What comes next is a cast of characters that are unforgettable.
What I loved is how rich Hilderbrand makes Nantucket and the characters. You really feel like you are there and immersed in the hotel with everyone. However, I missed some of the usual deeper romance that I found and enjoyed in many of her books. I also felt that there were too many characters at times, making me feel lost at some points.
All that said, I did enjoy the book, and I recommend that people give this book a read! 3.5 stars
I enjoyed The Hotel Nantucket for being an easy to read love letter to the island of Nantucket. There is a huge cast of characters, a historic hotel brought back to sumptuous glory, romantic engagements, richly described food and a ghost. I'm going to describe this book as a quintessential beach read but not in as negative way. This is the first book I’ve read by Elin Hilderbrand and I can see why she is such a popular author. Her characters and the setting are richly described and while I found the plot shallow I don’t feel the plot was the main point of the book. This is a character driven book and so I wish there had been fewer characters, more fleshed out, so that I could have been more invested in them. Rather I was left with a desire to visit Nantucket and live the lives of the summer people.
The queen of the summer beach read is back with her latest book for summer 2022! I love all of Elin Hilderbrand's books, she is such a great fiction writer. I always know what I'm going to get when I pick up one of her books: The perfect beach read! Her latest book does not disappoint.
The Hotel Nauntucket is a cute book about a restored hotel and it's staff and occupants. One notable character is the ghost who haunts the hotel. A chambermaid who died in a hotel fire who has hung around the establishment for decades. This book felt like such a celebration of the island and the people who love it there. It was a lighthearted book with less heartbreak than some of her other books. I think coming out of these pandemic years everyone will enjoy this breezy and fun book! At this point I nearly forgot what it is like to stay in a hotel on a vacation.
At the hotel the general manager develops a "blue book" which is a guide to the island. Hilderbrand wrote her own version of this guide included at the end of the book. It's filled with all her favorite island spots and a guide to visiting places mentioned across all her books. One day when I win the lottery I hope to visit this magical island!
I did find it interesting that this book has a character who is a ghost, similar to be previous book golden girl which has a character who is in the afterlife. Both books also featured the teenage characters more than her other books. These books reminded me of each other in a few ways which is odd since they were published back to back. I loved both books so I don't mind any similarities, just something I noticed.
My biggest thanks to both #Netgalley and #littlebrownandcompany for granting me access to an advanced copy of this book!
I am a huge fan of Elin’s books and this book was incredible! Each staff member at the hotel has secrets and I was dying to know what they were! There’s heartbreak, love, mystery, scandals and even a ghost! The entire story flowed so well together and I enjoyed it immensely!
