5 keys!! What an exuberant novel!! I did not want it to end. I’m booking my trip to Nantucket now!
I thought other readers were being over-enthusiastic when they declared that Nantucket was next on their travel list after reading this novel. Well, I now wholeheartedly agree. The author describes every place with such detail that I almost felt like I was on Nantucket. Isn't that the mark of a perfect beach read?
I fell in love with each one of the large cast of characters and by the end, I was weeping. They had all become like friends! (Not every novel has to win a Pulitzer Prize for it to be thoroughly engaging and entertaining.) Not only did the end of the story mark the end of the final chapter, but I felt like it marked the end of summer: I felt both melancholy and hopeful.
If you've ever been curious about behind-the-scenes of a luxury hotel, then you will love this book. The author skillfully brings together a diverse cast of characters at the newly-renovated Hotel Nantucket. There are the competitive front-desk clerks, each with a story of their own; Lizbet, the heartbroken manager who is determined to win the coveted Five Keys award from the mystery travel blogger Shelly Carpenter; the bellboys; the cleaning staff; the billionaire and absentee owner; and last but not least, the whimsical ghost of Grace, who still haunts the hotel to this very day.
"But who doesn’t love a little summer romance? She just hopes they don’t forget about that article. If they solve her murder case, she’ll finally be able to get some much needed rest. It has been an exhausting century."
There's romance, there's mystery, there's plenty of humor, and of course the star of the story, glorious Nantucket. Plus, there is a fabulous travel guide included with the book written by none other than Elin Hilderbrand herself. I miss all the characters already. Highly recommend!
(Many thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy via NetGalley in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
You’ll feel like a Nantucket local exchanging juicy deets on this summer’s gossip. Some secret reveals were less scandalous than expected and there were little to no consequences to characters’ actions.
There's no surprise this story is set in Nantucket, but it definitely follows a slightly different pattern than other Hilderbrand books. The characters intersect but are connected by work and not other relationships, making it interesting to see how their outside lives filter in. The ghost is sassy and enjoyable, and a lot of situations end up in a grey area, making the reader question where things fall morally. An enjoyable story with flawed characters we can all love.
I eagerly await each of Elin's book. The hotel Nantucket gives the reader everything they want in a book. Great characters, lots of backstories romance, and intrigue, a run down hotel trying to reinvent itself, and quirky yet loveable guests. You are rooting for each of the characters and you are even treated to a loveable ghost the inhabits the hotel. As an extra bonus, Elin gives us a list of places to visit in Nantucket. Next decision is when to visit.
Elin Hilderbrand just keeps getting better and better. I've read everything of hers and this title is a real standout. The story has everything to keep the pages flying ... a historic hotel with a ghost, a cast of quirky characters with interesting back stories, multiple love affairs and a satisfying twist for the big finish. Brava!
I am a Huge ELIN fan and again she did it! She hooks you from the start and doesn’t let you go. Her books are atmospheric and characters and lovable and hateable at the same time. Again, this book did not disappoint
If you have read Elin then you know how AMAZING her books are. This one is no different.
My favorite character: The Ghost of hotel Nantucket. If you on the fence with this one you should definitely read it.
Elin is the Queen of summer books abd she has written another amazing story. I enjoyed the characters, the setting and the ending was wrapped up nicely. Definitely recommend it!
This book centers on the first three months of the newly-renovated, re-opening of the Nantucket Hotel. The Hotel has had more than 100 years of bad luck and history and is haunted by my favorite character - Grace - the mistress of a wealthy man from years past. There are numerous story lines intertwining between the general manager, Lizbet Keaton, the front desk staff (Alessandra (least fave) and Edith), the bellmen, the housekeeping staff (who are actually extremely wealthy and take this job to vindicate past jobs and loves). the chef, and the night auditor. There are several entertaining sub stories in the background which kept me interested, but the book was pretty long and seemed to drag at points. This was my first Elin Hilderbrand book, and I will probably give others of hers a try.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were very relatable and I thought the ending was fitting.
Queen of a summer read back at it again. I loved the details about the renovations of the hotel and the quest for 5 stars! 5 star read!
I adored this book. It was a quick and easy read. Made me want to go spend the summer in Nantucket and spend time with all these intriguing characters.
Hotel Nantucket Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Hotel Nantucket was once the place to stay on Nantucket. For decades it has been abandoned and is in such disrepair that it seems unlikely that it could ever be restored to its former glory. Until a mysterious new owner takes it upon himself to restore the hotel. Leading the way is Lizbet Keaton manager of the Nantucket Hotel. Lizbet hires an all star lineup to meet the number one demand of owner Xavier Darling - earn a 5 key rating. Over the course of the summer, Lizbet and her crew experience romance, friendship and mystery that ultimately drive The Nantucket Hotel to excellence.
This book was a dream - the perfect summer beach read. Hilenbrand has crafted well developed characters who the reader can’t help but love. The Hotel Nantucket serves as backdrop for several stories that revolve around the staff and are seamlessly intertwined.
Great book, that’s all I have to say! Great story as always. Fabulous characters. Loved it.i thought this was a perfect summer read and will absolutely recommend to all.

Where do I begin!! What an awesome book!! This is my second Elin Hilderbrand and it made me add all of her other books to be TBR immediately! This book is for sure character driven & not so much plot but that has never been something that bothers me when the characters are written as perfectly as this!! There is mystery, sex, money and even a ghost! My husband works in the hotel world so that was fun to read about since I have a bit more knowledge of the back end of hotels than the average person! I will say that her descriptions of non-important details (food & drink in the restaurants & backstory on D list characters specifically) were a little long winded & unnecessary but I can appreciate the portrait that they painted! I think this book really has something for everyone & if you’re like me and new to Elin Hilderbrand, this might be the perfect book for you since it really has it all!!
Thank you so much to Elin Hilderbrand, NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for the advance copy of this book! Be sure to check out Hotel Nantucket if you haven’t already!!!
Hotel Nantucket
Loved, loved this book. For what it is, a chocolate and popcorn book that most others call a hot summer read. An easy five stars for me.
The writing is smooth and almost luxurious and easy to drop into the fictive dream. This is because of the great writing craft. The author maintains several plot lines juggling them with skill and verve. But what is really impressive about this story is the micro-conflicts that come and go, branches to the main trunk.
The setup or conflict is rooted in a damaged love story, the main character’s heart is unjustly crushed by a long-time boyfriend. Add to this the start-up of a refurbished hotel that the new owner wants it to meet the highest standards on Nantucket island. There is a mystery hotel reviewer that holds sway and is pandered for a five-star review. A status not unlike a Michelin
Throw into the mix a ghost. Yes, a ghost, but this apparition is only used as spice and to reveal past information that helps give the hotel equal weight as a main character. Which is difficult to do. The trials and tribulations are buried in the relationships that interact in and around the hotel. They swirl and ebb in such away the reader can’t look away and is tugged along in a most favorable way. The author flirts with maudlin and melodrama but never crosses that line.
I highly recommend this novel. If you’re in need of a little ginger the same as in a sushi dinner to clear your literary palate this is the one for you.
A great summer beach read. The story focuses on the refurbishment of a grand hotel in Nantucket. A hotel that closed down after a fire in the 1920’s, has secrets, and even a ghost. The hotel has recently been bought by a London billionaire and Lizbet is hired as the general manager to renovate the hotel and hire a full staff. There are many likeable and well developed characters and it was fun getting to know them and their stories. I found Grace's character ( (the young ghost) to be very amusing as she roamed around the hotel haunting the guests and staff with her harmless tricks. There is drama, mystery, romance, and some twists thrown in too. While I didn’t love this one as much as her others, I found it be an entertaining and light read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I ALWAYS enjoy Elin’s books and this one is no exception. This takes place at a rebuilding of a luxury hotel in Nantucket with a quirky cast of characters….one is even a ghost! This was one of Hilderbrand’s lighter summer escapes and I really enjoyed it. A very easy and sweet read.
This was my second (ever) Elin Hilderbrand book. After just reading The Blue Bistro where I literally couldn’t wait to get home to read it, this one unfortunately fell a little flat for me. There were a ton of characters and they all felt very surface level and not very interesting. There was also a lot of mention on how Lizbet “got hot” aka lost weight after her break up which didn’t sit right with me. I liked the mention of the Blue Bistro and how the stories were somewhat connected. I also loved the descriptive nature of the writing. Elin has a wonderful writing style that really allows you to picture what the scenery looks like which is great, especially in summer when reading about the beach. I didn’t really care for the supernatural perspective, however. I didn’t think it added much more to the story because what she “told” us was ultimately revealed anyways. I loved the Blue Book appendix at the end! I think that was really clever. Overall I’m still an Elin fan and will continue to read her work.
What a great beach read that only enhanced my desire to visit Nantucket. I love how Elin weaves together the stories of several different characters, which include a hotel, a ghost and the voice of the town itself! Strange for a hotel to be a character but I believe in this one it is a main one. Such a fun read. I'm glad I had other things going on so I could enjoy and drag this one out a bit more.
