I received an ARC of this novel from Brown, Little and Company via Netgalley in exchange for my review. Without a doubt Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of summer beach reads and no summer is complete without one of her stories! This one got 4 stars from my usual 5 star ratings because this story had a confusing start with way too many characters, and it is a bit of a ghost story, which I felt really didn’t add much to this story. With that being said, should you still read it? Of course!!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read Elin Hilderbrand's latest Beach read "Hotel Nantucket". What I love about Hilderbrand's books is how entertaining they are for an easy read. Hotel Nantucket was no exception. The book follows a "haunted hotel" and those who inhabit and work there. There were a lot of different characters, but I didn't find it hard to follow- each character had their own distinct voice and helped bring the book to life. This one was, as the characters in Hotel Nantucket would say, "5 Keys!".
I was really charmed by this! Easy, breezy, fluffy brain candy, with fun characters and a gossipy village feel to Nantucket Island that hit the spot. Plus an omnipresent ghost narrator from the hotel’s heyday! Perfect for your beach bag with a couple of caveats…. The incessant pop culture reference-dropping was overdone and annoying, and fat-shaming/pretty-is- everything terminology and attitudes reared their (sadly not unusual) ugly head a few times. But a 4 star heart-warmer non-the-less.
Not only is The Hotel Nantucket is my favorite beach read of 2022, it is also my favorite novel by Eli Hilderbrand! I absolutely LOVED the hotel and ghost theme of the book! I also enjoyed just about all of the characters and how hard and well they worked together!
I have never been to Nantucket, however, after each of Elin's books, I ALWAYS want to head there. I absolutely loved how she included The Blue Book at the end!!!
I definitely recommend The Hotel Nantucket!
The Hotel Nantucket has been purchased by a billionaire intent on sparing no expense to bring it back to its former glory – he wants to do the impossible and be the first hotel to achieve a “five key” rating from a popular travel blogger. This is an “ensemble character” novel that follows a whole bunch of people who work at the Hotel Nantucket, as well as the ghost of a chambermaid who died at the hotel in 1922, and I found all the plots compelling – a big coup for these multiple POV books that usually have me rooting for one character over the others. And while I don’t normally enjoy books about fantasy or the supernatural, Hilderbrand did a good job with the ghost character and made even that plotline feel not too farfetched. I loved that one of the characters was a Cornell Hotel School student, and it was really fun to see the behind the scenes of a hotel opening and day-to-day operations. What a fun summer read!
You know it’s summertime when you grab the latest Elin Hilderbrand novel, The Hotel Nantucket, and immediately picture yourself on the island with Nantucket’s elite class! Elin Hilderbrand novels NEVER disappoint but she outdid herself with this one! The gossip, drama, love triangles, and infidelity makes this a great summer beach read.
From Grace Hadley, the ghost of The Nantucket Hotel, to the true Shelly Carpenter…didn’t see that one coming…all of the characters make this a true page turner for me. Also included at the end of the book is Elin’s own ‘Blue Book’, a Nantucket’s guide for all things tourist! A great summer read and a travel guide for a popular tourist destination all wrapped into one book is more than any avid traveling reader, like myself, could ask for!
Thank you Little, Brown and Company, Elin Hilderbrand, and Net Galley for allowing access to this wonderful novel in exchange for my honest review!

Absolutely adored this summer’s Elin read. I was hesitant about the ghost aspect because supernatural isn’t really my thing, but it was the perfect touch. I felt like I was walking the streets of Nantucket as I turned every page. Best summer read of 2022!
Excellent beach read. Elin never disappoints. She will continue to be one of my favorite authors. Read it in 3 days
I always look forward to Elin Hilderbrand's summer book and this one didn't disappoint. Lizbet Keaton and her boyfriend owned and operated the most popular restaurant in Nantucket. When he fools around with his wine distributor, she leaves and is hired as the general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, London billionaire, Xavier Darling purchased and renovated the historic Gilded Age gem and it is up to Lizbet and her staff to get the highest rating from Shelly Carpenter, the secretive Instagram star who can make the Hotel Nantucket, the place to be. There is also a bit of a ghost story, involving with a maid, Grace, who was accidentally burned alive in an attic room years before.
I really enjoyed this story, it has a little of everything. It has some romance, a mystery, a ghost who is quite humorous and helpful, friendship, heartbreak, secrets and lots of summer antics. The characters are all wonderful, likable (except a couple of the guests) and well developed. I think I liked Grace the best. She narrated several chapters with her own perspective. We learned about the hotel over the years, as well as her protectiveness of staff and guests when needed. She often had me chuckling. The staff were varied, and were all there for different reasons. Several were not very likable when the story started, but they all showed their true colours eventually and all wanted the hotel to succeed. Most of them had secrets, that are gradually revealed as the story progresses. Then there were the guests. There was a family that stayed with their dog, and they became part of the Hotel family. This was such a delightful beach read, with lots of heart, and stories. Will they achieve the rating they want? Will they ever find out what really happened to Grace? Will Xavier ever show up to the hotel? Will the hotel become the destination they are all working so hard to achieve? Read this book to find out and take a virtual trip to Nantucket. I definitely recommend this book for a wonderful summer/beach/poolside read.
Elin Hilderbrand is my Queen of summer reads! I have been reading her forever and honestly I don’t even read the descriptions I just say “yes please”! The Hotel Nantucket is another 5 star summer read! I loved everything about this book. Elin fills the pages with amazing story lines that are fresh and heartfelt! The description of the area is also like a mini vacation for me. I swear I dream of the beach while reading her books!
This is my favorite Elin Hilderbrand yet! The main setting is the Hotel Nantucket itself. Billionaire Xavier Darling hires Lizbet, who is recently single and out to prove her ability to be successful. The theme throughout the novel is that the staff at the hotel are working hard to impress a blogger who thrives on incognito visits to rate hotel and inns. Hotel Nantucket is after the elusive rating of “5 Keys” which no other location has been able to attain.
I loved getting the perspective of multiple staff members - not just Lizbet - and also the prospect of unreliable narrators. The reader is given clues that some staff may not be trusted but there were unexpected twists along the way.
My favorite part, however, is the presence of a ghost that haunts the hotel. I was so entertained by the juxtaposition of a summer novel smashed together with an autumn aesthetic.
I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for the summer vibe coupled with multiple mysteries, loads of flawed humans making bad decisions, and pulling off vendettas against infidelity.
Thank you to the publisher Little, Brown and Company and Netgalley for the ARC.
Queen of summer, beach reads! I enjoyed this book, especially the hotel setting. Reminded me a lot of Blue Bistro. I wasn’t too sure about the ghost element but it fit.
If you have read an Elin Hilderbrand book before then you know what to expect. This book was no exception. Expect some drama, unexpected friendships, romance, beach town and bougie details about clothing and/or decor. This story she threw in an unexpected ghost which was my favorite character in the book.
I have a terrible habit of saving books to read for the perfect moment. But this time it worked out perfectly to read the Hotel Nantucket by @elinhilderbrand while on vacation in Cape Cod! My husband and I took the ferry over and spent one long, beautiful day on the Grey Lady and we got to swing by the novel’s inspiration.
I’ve always been interested in the hospitality industry and the Hotel Nantucket was the perfect book to read for this interest. It’s a classic Elin book, with all the local charm and scenery that we have come to expect. After a bad breakup, Lizbet decides to get a new job and throws herself into the launch of the renovated Hotel Nantucket. She uses her knowledge of the island and her excellent customer service skills to get hired as the general manager. She hires a new staff, oversees the day to day work and tries to exceed every guest expectation, including the infamous Shelly Carpenter, a travel influencer who can make or break their reputation. The staff and guests each have a lot going on and I always love the way Elin weaves their personal lives into the story.
Part of the story includes a POV from a ghost that haunts the hotel, which I can see some people not enjoying. But I found Grace to be quite charming and added a fun twist to the book. I love that she stole Lizbet’s Twins hat and returns it at the end.
I loved all the call backs to previous books, especially my favorite of Elin’s, the Blue Bistro. I also loved that in the novel, she has Lizbet create the “blue book” of Nantucket recommendations, but then includes it for everyone at the end of the book.
Thank you so much to @littlebrown for my netgalley copy. All of Elin’s books are a treat and I recommend you check out some of her older novels.
No summer is complete without Elin's newest novel as your companion! (Especially if your toes are in the sand.) Just like Elin's previous novels, The Hotel Nantucket did not disappoint.
I liked that there were reoccurring characters of Elin's from some of her previous novels. (Do not skip over this novel for fear of not understanding the character dynamics if you have never read any of her novels before... she either fills in enough of the blanks to have the reader understand why they are back, or there is no need to know the background of the character for their development.)
It is an interesting read that kept me turning my pages even after the sun went down! I loved all of the different points of view from the characters. [Spoiler-- I thought that having Grace share her point of view was an interesting twist. Figuring out the truth and the mystery behind her story made the hotel an intriguing place to be.]
In my opinion, the characters were written in a dynamic way that made me feel as though they were real. I wanted to pick up the phone and text each one to check in on them. [Spoiler--Luckily, Elin included a nice ending to tie up all of the loose knots that she creatively formed throughout the novel.]
I recommend The Hotel Nantucket to any new reader of Elin Hilderbrand's as well as any life long fan!
I loved this book. It is about a group of employees at a old hotel that is bought and renovated. They come together to make it the best hotel on the island. This book has a great cast of characters who all have their own secrets. The hotel even comes with a ghost. There is a little romance thrown in but is not the main story of the book. Great beach read.
If you are looking for a beach read to enjoy before the end of summer, look no further.
This was so much fun!
‘The Hotel Nantucket’ will truly have you wanting to book a trip to Nantucket immediately. I would be lying if I didn’t admit to scouting some hotels and restaurants 👀
In this story, we follow several characters who all work at the newest and highly speculated hotel in Nantucket that recently got a makeover. There was a tragic fire in 1922 that killed a 19-year-old chambermaid, Grace, and since then Grace has been haunting the hotel until her murder has been solved.
Now, I normally would’ve been averse to the idea of following a ghost but it was actually a great inclusion to the story. She was probably my favorite character, definitely the funniest.
Xavier Darling is the London billionaire who purchased and renovated the hotel and hires Liz, to achieve the goal of impressing two women which we find out more details as the story goes on.
‘The Hotel Nantucket’ is filled with love, revenge, humor, and mystery all in a wonderful cozy beach setting. I really enjoyed following each characters storylines and it added to the chaos of it all.
I can’t wait to read more by Elin this summer.
I'm a huge Elin Hilderbrand fan and was so excited to get access to this one early! It absolutely did not disappoint. As I'd just visited Nantucket, I loved reading about all the restaurants, sights, etc. that I'd just seen. I loved how all the characters' lives were interwoven (typical for Elin!), and thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with them. Highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was an entertaining story, but I had absolutely no connection to any of these characters. A lot of them melded together a bit, so it was difficult to keep them in order when I was listening to the audiobook. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
The hotel Nantucket was an eyesore until London billionaire bought it and remodeled. Lizbeth applied for the job of general manager after her breakup with her long term boyfriend. She is determined to impress Xavier and get him his 5 keys from one of the women he wants to impress, a mysterious hotel blogger.
Throughout the book you learn about the hotel staff and their many secrets. The hotel is also haunted by a chambermaid from 1922 and you learn about Grace, what happened to her, and who is responsible for her death.
This is my friend book I’ve read by Elin Hilderbrand and I was hooked. I read the book in a couple of days! Some of the characters really grew on me and I loved seeing their development throughout the book. The book talks a lot about the blue book of Nantucket and at the very end of the book is that book. It has all of the in’s and out’s for someone planning a trip there!!
