This pretty book is a mix of nonfiction and fiction about the lifecycle of a butterfly. Two little girls go to a butterfly garden and learn about the painted lady butterfly and then when they get back to school wonder why they don’t have any. They realize they don’t have the right type of native plants, so they set out on a mission to build a butterfly garden. There is information provided throughout the story about the painted lady butterflies as well as more detailed information at the end. This could be a staple in libraries until something fresher comes along and replaces it.
This is a delightful and simple book touching on a certain butterfly. It is a starter book and pictures are sweet. There are basic facts about butterflies and it works well inspiring a young reader to learn more.
This has a lot going for it. The illustrations are beautiful and very detailed, and the story doesn't miss a beat when it comes to teaching. This book would be great for every classroom, or home bookshelf. My toddler actually asked questions while reading the book, and I was so excited at how engaged she was with it.
Thank you, NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids for the ARC!!
A lovely look at the life cycle of the Painted Lady butterfly. On a field trip, a group of children visit a butterfly garden. There they see the life cycle of the butterfly. The illustrations in the booki are colorful, the information is presented in an easy-to-read format. There is an information side panel with additional material.
This book would work with preschoolers and early elementary children, or anyone studying butterflies. There are scientifically accurate details on the Painted Lady. The materials align with classroom curriculum, plus it's beautifully illustrated. Maybe children will start their own butterfly gardens at home or in their communities.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Super simple text about the painted lady butterfly and how they grow.
Interesting and easy to understand book about butterfly, from two children's point of view. How easy actually to accommodate butterflies, that they would always have a place to stay during their migrations.

Readers join two friends as they go on a field trip to a Butterfly Garden. They observe the butterflies and study their various stages along with the two girls. Seeing the Painted Lady Butterflies inspires them to work with their community to create a Butterfly Garden there so more butterflies will thrive.
Information textboxes are added on many pages to share facts about the Painted Lady Butterflies. Rose Reed also adds information at the end of the book so readers can learn more about the butterfly's life cycle and characteristics.
Terrific addition to elementary level libraries.
Using a story about a class that visits a butterfly garden to share facts about its life cycle is a great way to teach kids. Enjoyed the story of the visit and the students desire to create a butterfly garden at their school. The added information at the end about the life cycle and then comparing moths and butterflies was an added bonus. Will be adding this title to the school library.

This book is wonderful. The pictures are absolutely adorable. And the book is also educational while still being fun!
Nice story surrounded by facts for those who want more in depth learning on painted lady butterflies. Illustrations are nice and bright. Love the end where the community comes together to make a butterfly garden at the school.
A delightfully written, beautifully illustrated, informative children's book. As a teacher I would absolutely use this in my classroom. The children depicted are diverse, beautifully drawn, and inquisitive in the story. The book balanced the story of a field trip with information about the painted lady’s lifecycle. Wonderful book for any budding etymologists shelf.
