Starting a new job is always daunting. A little more so when your coworkers have a variety of super powers, and not all of them are aligned. Chloe, a plant like being in a planet filled with super powered people, is very nervous about her new job, specially when mentions of her interventions as an amateur super hero in her youth come to light. As her day goes from worse to worst, Chloe is forced to face her fears.
This was a very fun read. The world this is set into is very interesting - alien worlds that travel to each other realms enough that multicultural hubs such as this one exists. Instead of hearing of first encounters and new adventures, we get to see corporate world in an extremely diverse environment. It is a blast!
Chloe is starting a new job. Orientation goes okay. Then she is taken to her new office. Well, it's more like going back in time with the added benefit of dust, rust, and empty-building syndrome. That's right. It's a dump.
The new security trainees are starting today as well. They all have some sort of special ability, and are looking forward to a training session out on one of the special fields. But there are strange undercurrents, and one guy is really cocky.
Have all of these new people made a terrible mistake? Will they still get to keep their welcome bags?
This is a creative sci-fi story with fancifully different people (and abilities), mixed with corporate structure's faults and benefits. It's full of humor, but also explores a variety of issues from childhood memories to following military orders, and others. It's entertaining, if you're in the mood for this style of multiple co-star tale.
However, due to the caution below, I cannot recommend it to kids or youth.
Caution: Mild swearing, crude reference.
