The Final Hunt, by Audrey J Cole, is an unputdownable marriage suspense novel.
How did Cameron's marriage become this?
After her husband, John vanished after being attacked by a bear, he was assumed dead. Then Cameron finds some incredibly disturbing crime photos featuring her deceased husband. When she turns the pictures over to the local police, she finds out that he's long been suspected to be the Seattle serial murderer known a The Teacher Killer. Now the media is doing everything they can to destroy her reputation. Now her dental practice is falling apart and she's about to lose her home.
Suddenly Cameron realizes that if John could hide the fact that he's a serial killer, why should she believe that he's really dead?
Now she's going on a hunt for the truth all the way up to Alaska.

Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced electronic copy of this novel, which I’ve finished today on its publication day!
Having read one of Audrey Cole’s previous books, I was excited by the premise of this one. What happens to a successful dentist when her husband goes missing, presumed dead, of a bear attack on a hunting trip? What happens when that same successful dentist finds evidence that her missing husband is a serial killer?
The snowy wilderness, wolves and bears and moose, frozen rivers and snow capped mountains were descriptive background elements to this mystery. An easy read, at times I felt it was not very realistic but enjoyable all the same!

A standalone thriller, The Final Hunt by Audrey J Cole has a feisty female protagonist. Can life get much worse for Cameron after her husband John disappears whilst out hunting and is presumed killed by bears? She then discovers a USB stick with photos and the horrific realisation that John may have been in fact a serial killer. As she loses her livelihood as a dentist and her home, the horrible truth is exposed. So, she decides to flee to an off-grid hunting cabin in the untamed Alaskan wilderness. As the police investigate her for possible collusion, Cameron investigates what else was kept from her. With dark secrets revealed and building tension comes an enjoyable wilderness action thriller with a three star read rating. With thanks to Books Go Social and the author, for an uncorrected advanced reader copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.

I had not read anything by this author, but I enjoyed this twisted mystery. Cameron’s husband John is killed by bears while hunting with his friend and fellow attorney. His remains have never been found. This was another tragic loss for Cameron as her first husband was found to have committed suicide. When she finds photos that indicate John was a killer, she turns them over to the police only to learn that she had been married to a monster. Now the community has turned against her, causing her to lose her home and her dental practice. As she answers more questions for the police, she begins to wonder if John faked his death in order to avoid being arrested. This would explain the money he removed from their accounts. Guessing where he may have fled to, she’s determined to make him pay…for killing those women and destroying her life. The ending was a little different, but still an interesting mystery. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

What would you do if you found out your husband was a serial killer?

Cameron's husband John dies from a bear attack. Soon after John's death, Cameron discovers he murdered women, many women! Intriguing. Did John actually die in those woods? This is my first book by Audrey J. Cole and I really enjoyed it. The book was fast paced and kept my interest throughout. I am definitely interested in reading more by this author.

A big thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. 4 stars!

I listened to the audio version and loved the narrator. I found the story itself to be a little predictable but I still enjoyed the author’s own spin on it.

You know those books you read when you have seasonal depression in the middle of winter and you enjoy being temporarily transported to a tropical climate to dream of summer and sunshine? This book is like that, but the complete opposite. Read this if you like thrillers and want to be transported to the harsh, unforgiving Alaskan wild in the middle of winter, where moose, rabid wolves, and another dangerous apex predator lurks.

Cameron is an affluent dentist in the Seattle area who believes marriage number two is the charm. But after a hunting accident involving her criminal defense attorney husband, John, and his business partner goes wrong, she is thrust into a position where she finds out her second husband wasn’t really who she and everyone thought he was and Cameron will have to face her own concealed truths about her first marriage in order to save herself from going down with him. This story is set in both Washington and Alaska and told from Cameron and Detective Mulholland’s contemporaneous perspectives.

Wowwwe! This book gets into the plot FAST and I liked it! I am about to move from Missouri to Washington state here in a few weeks, so I loved all of the Washington state references and how beautifully it was portrayed. What great timing! I’ve never been to Alaska and I’m not the most outdoorsy person, but the detail in this book makes me want to pack up and go on a great backpacking wilderness adventure. The overarching plot was pretty foreseeable to me but that in no way subtracted from the entertainment value and the plot fillers along the way. I flew through this thriller so quickly. You know stories are great when you can’t wait to keep reading, and you’re still thinking about it after it’s over!

At the end of the e-galley, I saw there is an ALTERNATE ENDING if you sign up for the author’s mailing list and I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THAT IMMEDIATELY!

This author is new to me. I definitely enjoyed her style of writing and creativity so I am excited to check out some of her other works too.

Thank you to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial, and the author for an advance reader’s galley in exchange for my honest review!

Cameron is grieving the death of her lawyer husband, John, killed by a bear attack whilst hunting. A few months later, she travels up to the off-the-grid hunting cabin for the first time, & starts sorting through their memories when she finds a hidden SD card. Hoping it is more photographs of the two of them, Cameron slots it into her laptop & is horrified to see photographs of her husband standing over the dead body of a young woman on the bed in the hunting cabin. The woman appears to have been strangled & John's reflection has been caught in the mirror whilst taking the photograph. Heading home immediately, Cameron hands over the SD card to the police & the detective tells her that they were investigating John for being the Teacher Killer - a serial killer who raped & strangled young women who were involved in the education profession. They were close to being able to arrest him when he was killed, although he had an alibi for two of the women's disappearances, but now they are about to release the story to the media that they believe John was the TK..

As the media descend on Cameron's home, her patients at her dental practice start to cancel their appointments & her staff hand in their notices, & it seems the only friend Cameron has left is John's partner at their law firm. It seems Cameron will be the one to pay in the minds of the public for John's crimes, & when her vehicle is spotted on CCTV not far from the cabin around the time that the two women went missing that John had an alibi for, the police start to look at her as a possible accomplice & also dig into her history. John was Cameron's second husband after her first committed suicide - but the detective on John's case is not convinced it was suicide. Cameron meanwhile has started to wonder whether John is actually dead or whether he faked his death to get away & leave her & his law partner with the fallout. She has a vague idea of where he may have gone if he is still alive, so she decides to head out to the remote area to track him down. Is John still alive or is Cameron off on a wild goose chase?

Now this is a predictable thriller, you can work out the main twist from the beginning, but it is so well written & has such pace, that I didn't even care. The main character of Cameron is well-fleshed out so that the reader cares what happens. There is a smidgeon of romance, but the author for the most part focuses on the main plot. Not to say too much about it, but payback's most definitely a bitch in this one. The epilogue to the ending left things up in the air though & that's not something I tend to enjoy. Overall , it has cracking pace & kept me riveted .

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, BooksGoSocial, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

The Final Hunt, by Audrey Cole, is an action-packed thriller! Just like the Alaskan bears and wolves in the story, this tale will hold you in its grip from the dramatic prologue to the exciting conclusion.
Cameron, the female protagonist, is a dentist who is grieving after her husband John is missing and presumed killed in a bear attack. Then, a few months later, she finds an SD card with disturbing images on it implicating John in a series of terrible crimes, and her world is turned upside down, as local media and society judge her as an accomplice.
The rest of the novel details how she navigates her position as a local pariah and seeks to find the truth about John. This takes her into life-threatening situations, and forces her to think on her feet and puzzle out the mystery surrounding her missing husband.
As well as being a dentist, it turns out Cameron is skilled at wilderness survival and marksmanship, so she is drawn as a strong, competent, hard to intimidate woman. Her quest to find John in the Alaskan wilderness tests all her skills and is an immersive ride! The short chapters accelerate the pace of the story and ratchet up the dramatic tension. The denouement ties up the loose ends of this mystery as everyone’s secrets are revealed.
I very much enjoyed this story, occasionally suspending disbelief at some of the wilderness situations. It was a fast, exciting, read, and I will look for more thrillers written by this author.

Thank you to Rainier Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. This is my honest review.

This book was so good! I want to see more from this author in the future!! I couldn't put this book down. What a page turner!!!

The book began with a great start for me. I was truly drawn into the book as the surrounding mystery of Simon and his friend encountering a couple of bears out in the mountains. There was a clue that I picked on from what Simon had said earlier in the book. I thought that it would be addressed by law enforcement, but no. The book moved pretty quickly for me, but it had a monotone energy from me. I was looking for the excitement and suspense that was supplied in the beginning. I was looking for some comments and action from said person who committed these crimes. I do like the cover of the book.

Cameron’s husband John dies in a bear attack. Not long after Cameron discovers to her horror that he is the prime suspect in a serial murder hunt.
But things don’t stack up and Cameron’s doubts lead her on a quest to find out the truth about John. Along the way she must face the consequences of her own secrets.
I enjoyed The Final Hunt. Despite Cameron’s seemingly appalling choices in men she makes a fearsome character. The plot was steady and the outcome a little too predictable however the book held enough pace and suspense to keep it exciting.
A comfortable read and would be great for holiday reading!
The Final Hunt would appeal to readers of Ruth Ware and Adrian McKinty.

Cameron’s life falls apart very quickly. Her husband’s recent death has left her bereft. But she discovers even more shocking revelations about him that threaten her own future. She takes matters into her own hands and ventures into the wilderness to take care of the problem once and for all.
I loved the scenes in Alaska the best and how she deals with the problem left me cheering.
Cameron has a penchant for attracting monsters, but perhaps the third time is the charm.

with her life in tatters and her dental practise gone cameron can only try to sell up and try somewhere else but then she finds that the police are looking into her, could they really suspect her of helping her husband kill his victims....

well who doesnt love a storyline that involved mountains and snow ploughs with the added danger of wolves and bears....and i have to say i was hooked by this storyline

the shocks never stopped coming with this one and the characters were well written

John, a Lawyer, has been eaten by a bear – or at least that’s what the world believes. This is convenient, because the Seattle police were secretly building a case that he was “The Teacher Killer”. While clearing out his possessions, his wife, Cameron, a Dentist, comes across photographic proof of his guilt. Cue her being mobbed by the press (expected) and her being suspected of being his accomplice (unexpected). Unfortunately, she has a secret which means she is reluctant to co-operate with any investigation into her past. Even more unexpected, she discovers that John had cashed in his insurance and massively extended their mortgage, so she is basically broke. Cameron concludes that John has faked his death and deduces that he has gone off grid and is hiding out in the depths of Alaska. Fortunately, she has a private plane at her disposal, and enough cash to be able to fund her investigation, so flies off to Tok where (coincidently) a girl has been murdered using John’s MO.
Frankly, I didn’t believe in any of the characters in this story, none of whom behaved rationally. For example, the original report that John had been a bear’s lunch came from his business partner, who nevertheless appears to not feature on the police suspicion radar. A love story is confected but seems intrinsically unlikely. The Alaska section is pushed as being “one woman against the elements” but reads more like “one writer had a short holiday and then dropped it into a story”. It’s billed as a thriller largely because of this trek, but it just isn’t hard enough or COLD enough (compare Stef Penney’s “The Tenderness of Wolves”).
The writing/editing is clumsy, too many adjectives in my view, and a lot of repetitions; for example, at one point a character is described as looking ‘ravaged’ and a page later is described as having a ‘ravaged’ look. On the plus side, the language is not difficult, and the chapters are quite short, so the whole thing is over quite quickly.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.

Thrill ride all the way! Cameron is widowed after her husband, John, is killed by a bear during a hunting trip and she is devastated. Then she finds a memory card in their cabin that confirms that he was a serial killer that has haunted Seattle for years. Unable to face his crimes the police, media and public take it out on Cameron who they are sure had to know what her husband was up to and even acted as his accomplice. She begins to discover other secrets John had and starts to question if he faked his own death feeling the police were closing in. Finding a similar murder after his death in Alaska she heads out to see if she can find him and exact her revenge. And that is all I can say without really giving anymore more away.

This was a quick read because I could not put it down. The twists and turns are many. Some obvious and others made me stop short and reread what had just happened. I have never read anything by this author before, but that will soon change.

I want to extend my thanks to #NetGalley, BooksGoSocial and Audrey J. Cole for providing me a copy of #TheFinalHunt in exchange for my honest review.
