Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read the arc.
Wow! Where to start!
At the beginning, Cameron is a widow, she lost her husband, John, to a bear attack in the wilderness. The only survivor is his buddy, Simon.
Cameron is having a hard time accepting her husband's death as no body has been found. In order, to escape from daily life, she heads out to the cabin she shared with her late husband John. Here she discovers horrific photos of women who are deceased. After the shock wears off, she hands them over to the police.
From here, everything explodes. She finds out her late husband was The Teacher Killer.
The Final Hunt becomes a cat and mouse thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Is Cameron an accomplice? Does she know her husband was a serial killer? Will she help the police clear her name, or will she go into hiding to keep a secret from her past from being revealed.
The Final Hunt is a fast paced thriller that kept me wanting more!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! Audrey J. Cole is a new author for me, but I can confirm that I will be reading more of this author’s books. This book knocked me off my feet. It was incredibly fast-paced and plot driven, and I devoured it. Although I was able to guess the “big reveal” pretty easily, I still found myself covering my mouth in shock when it was confirmed. Overall, absolutely worth the read!
Cameron, grieving, finds proof her husband was a serial killer and takes this proof to the police.
Money is missing. Cameron has her own secrets.
This is a quick read with short chapters.
Thanks to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for permitting me to read this.
The Hunt was a great book! The author did a wonderful job of creating the setting and introducing the characters as well. Cameron’s husband dies during a bear attack while he is in Alaska. A grieving Cameron then finds some shocking evidence and sets out to find the truth. I loved how the author created suspense and left some chapters at a cliff hanger. It made me want to continue reading so that I could find out what happened next as soon as possible! I was on edge the entire time I was reading the book and enjoyed the suspense and tension created by the author.
The Final Hunt is a taut thriller and I loved it! This was an excellent thriller and well written. A suspenseful story set in an idyllic neighborhood initially with a grieving widow who a few months after her husband's death finds evidence that he is a prolific serial killer. Our MC Cameron has secrets of her own in her past and as her search leads her towards the truth she is again confronted with her past and the threat that she may be found complicit in her husband's crimes. As our MC reals from all the revelations she also has to wonder is John really dead.... This quest takes Cameron on a harrowing trek in the Alaskan wilderness and the realization she is ill suited with the skills needed for her pursuit.
Cameron undeterred doggedly persues her answers and possibly some new blossoming romance. I loved the twists, turns, and revelations along her journey. The book was an excellent read.
I received an ARC of The Final Hunt fir my honest review. #TheFinalHunt #NetGalley
An exhilarating, tension-filled ride! Secrets, betrayal, murder…the whole package! Wow, I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to know the outcome fast! There were many surprises along the way. The story centers around Cameron and her finding out that her husband was a serial killer. How could she not know? Where were the signs? She decides to investigate on her own and that path will lead her into answers she might not be ready to accept.
You’ve got to read this! It’s the first time reading this author’s book and she has gained a fan!
Thank you to NetGalley for AC!
3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cameron is grieving this death of her husband, John, when she uncovers proof that he was a serial killer. Despite the evidence stacked against John, the police still have their sights set on Cameron. Determined to save her reputation, she sets out on The Final Hunt– Cameron believes her husband faked his death and is living off the grid in Alaska. Will she be able to get to John before he makes her another one of his victims?
Was this book entertaining? Yes.
Was this book realistic? Heck no. Cameron has zero experience in the outdoors/subzero temps, yet she treks through the Alaskan wilderness alone and manages to survive an avalanche, rabid wolves, and icy water. The romance bit is also rather unlikely, but hey, he sounded cute.
Was this book worth reading? Sure, why not? It’s a quick and easy read, and the chapters are short. It’s predictable and improbable, but the idea behind the plot is decent. I say go for it!
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
This was a solid thriller and a new author for me, so I will be following her work. A suspenseful, atmospheric story set in the Alaskan wilderness (loved the wolf and snowmobile scenes). There was a nice twist, some romance, and a strong female lead character — basically, the perfect book to curl up with on a wintry day. I received an ARC of The Final Hunt and the opinions expressed are my own. #TheFinalHunt #NetGalley
A fast-paced, thrilling book that had me racing towards the ending, eager to find out what happened to Cameron. I love strong female characters, and she certainly fit the bill. I have been known to get irritable when a romantic plot line is thrown into the mix, but I thought it worked very well here. I'd love to see this book turned into a film, or series.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing an ARC, for which I willingly provided this honest review.
When Cameron's husband John is killed by a bear, she thinks her grief will consume her. Spending time at his hunting cabin gives her the chance to drink too much wine, relive their time together, and look through old pictures. She has no idea that when she finds an SD card, her world will explode.
You see, it turns out John was more than just a husband, a lawyer, a pilot, and a hunter. In his spare time, he was also a serial killer, and she is holding the proof in her hands. She takes the evidence to the police, trying to do the right thing. But she is shocked when the media and all the people around her believe she must have known and maybe even helped him kill those poor women. Her financial picture is also much worse than she imagined. There is an awful lot of money missing and Cameron soon starts to believe that John faked his death.
Can she convince the police without exposing her sordid past? It seems unlikely so she heads to a remote part of Alaska determined to discover the truth I am not going to delve into the details of what she finds and risk spoilers, but the shocking conclusion was not at all what I imagined.
This was a quick read and for the most part, I enjoyed Cameron's journey. There was a relationship that developed while she was searching for John that didn't work for me, but overall, it was still a good mystery.
I'm a massive mystery and thriller fan and I know a lot of other reviews say it's too neat n the love interest is unrealistic but i loved it anyways! It's not that deep, just appreciate it for what it is. The overall premise and plot was really good and had a unique setting. The characters were well written and no too cliched or just carbon copies of every other thriller female protagonist. The writing style was fast paced and it really kept you glued to the pages. There isn't a lot of depth in thr characters but from what you're told about them, it is easy to empathise with the main main character and see hwe want to succeed. The love interest was cute but yes, very very unlikely (especially his behaviour for a police officer) but I can't say it took anything away from the actual focus of the book which was the story of a woman and her dead hubby. There aren't really any twists you don't see coming..... maybe the wolves i guess?!..... but its still a fast paced and engaging book which will keep your attention til the end. Also, I did love the wolves!! Did I mention the wolves are awesome lol. Its bor reinventing the wheel but it doesn't need to to still be a really enjoyable book
The premise for this book was excellent and I enjoyed it. It was fast paced and quite unique. The main protagonist was kick ass and independant,. However, there were a few concidences that didn't quite gel and I think the romantic involvement didn't ring true in the context of the plot. Overall I enjoyed it, but found it hard to supend belief quite so far.
This book kept me guessing about the characters the entire book. Loved the fast paced action and the wicked ways that were used to extinguish the bad.
Good idea but poorly executed. Protagonist was unlikeable and hapless. The scenarios and actions unbelievable. The “romance” forced and trite. The ending obvious. I don’t like to leave negative feedback, as I realize that this book represents someone’s effort but there was vey little here to hold a reader’s attention.
I enjoyed this book! While I, like some other reviewers, had a good idea where the story would go, it was still a good read. Sometimes I actually find it nicer to have reliable characters and storyline, rather than having in the back of my mind while reading the thought of "who can I really trust." I liked the fast pace of the story and the short chapters.
From the start you know things are way more complicated than they first appear. Followed by a quick-paced second half that had me glued to the pages with quite a few surprises in the end.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.
This book was ok. But unfortunately that's as good as it got. I found it quite slow, and didn't connect to the characters. I did enjoy the reading style though
I really enjoyed this book! I’m a big fan of thrillers/mysteries and so I knew I’d be partial to this one just reading the synopsis.
Some people have stated that it was a predictable story but I didn’t think that. There were a number of players and scenarios that I thought could’ve played out. Plus, most of the fun is letting the story unravel and not knowing exactly how it’s going to come undone even if you kind of have an idea.
I’ve never read anything else by this author but I will add her to my list. Great read! Thank you!
This book was just eh. Wife discovers her husband is really a serial killer and maybe didn’t die. This reminded me a lot of the Perfect Marriage by Stephen King. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
I would describe this book as a light thriller/mystery meets the dark and unsettling. The plot was a unique take on ‘what if I married a serial killer?’ and I think the author was able to play it out very well. There were some pitfalls and some very obnoxious inconsistencies throughout, but I think the execution of writing an edge of your seat thriller was pretty okay.
I enjoyed the short chapters. It gave the book a very quick pace and each chapter ended with you wanting to keep reading (what's another 4-5 pages?). This book is also told from a multiperspective which adds to the speedy build-up to the climax. I found myself really enjoying the first half of this and I could not put it down.
Once I got to about the halfway point, the storytelling fell very flat. I started to feel as if someone were narrating a scene to me rather than me reading a scene. As the story progressed, I began having a difficult time really believing the story and its characters because there were so many inconsistencies and many unexplained loose ends. I am also not a fan of women on a journey who happen to find love along the way, and especially in a few days’ time.
If you are looking for a light, fast-paced breezy mystery, I say this is probably the book for you. There is a pretty sick revenge scene near the end of this, so if you don’t look past the surface, it is a pretty good read.
