Big thanks to Avon Publishing for the e-ARC of this book via NetGalley. This review is being given honestly and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Overall 4.5/5 stars rounded up to 5 bases on my enjoyment.

Kat and Oreston might be my fave couple so far 😍. I really loved the premise of their relationship (childhood betrothal-to-broken-betrothal-to-anonymous-hookup). Right away I found myself pulled in and enjoying this book a lot more than book 2 in this series (which I really liked and reccomend) and finished this in 2 days. Love the way Kat was like f this man and this idea of what a debutante is, I'm going to have a ho phase. Kind of disappointed that she didn't have a prolonged ho phase and/or didn't get to explore with other people besides Preston. It's not that I necessarily wanted her to be seeing other people besides our love interest BUT if she was going to have a ho phase then I feel like the author should have committed to it. That said, I really did love everything about this book but it wasn't the blind enjoyment of a pure 5 star read. I will say that im SUPER excited for the 4th book in this series. There was an awesome excerpt/teaser that has me frothing at the mouth for it to release BECAUSE IT WAS SO GOOD! Plus it's a couple that has been hinted at throughout the previous books.

Joanna Shupe does it again. This Gilded Age romance is everything I would expect a Shupe book to be: a rich setting, a great usage of characters from past books and super sexy scenes. Preston and Kat’s relationship was fun to read and their dialogue was always passion filled. What I love most about Shupe is each book in her series gets better and better. Highly recommend this book for any historical romance fan.

The Bride Goes Rogue is the 3rd book in the Fifth Avenue Rebels series about an arranged engagement destined for disaster between a hard-hearted tycoon and a romantic dreamer. Joanna Shupe is one of my favorite authors, everything she writes I read and I just love her Gilded Age historical romances. And this book is the hottest in the series yet! 🔥

Charismatic, vivacious Katherine Delafield has been anticipating her wedding for the past year. The story kicks off with Katherine wanting to lock down the planning details and decides to visit her intended, much-sought-after tycoon Preston Clarke, at his office. Their fathers were business partners and years ago decided their only children would wed. But when Katherine happily arrives at his office to talk about their would-be wedding, Preston bursts her bubble by informing her he never took that betrothal arrangement seriously and has zero plans to ever marry. Feeling a little silly and hurt, Katherine decided that won’t stop her from living life to the fullest and she sets out for her own New York City excitement…the more scandalous the better.

I love the NYC setting and how much of the city happenings we get to see in this book. Joanna Shupe always has the best Gilded Age history added into her books. Katherine and Preston both attend the French Ball held at Madison Square Garden, where partiers arrive masked, costumed and in wigs to take part in all sorts of scandalous delights. After sharing a very hot night together at the Ball, Katherine and Preston realize later who exactly they were with. I loved seeing these 2 give into their attraction to one another and their chemistry is off-the-charts! The carriage ride 🔥, an art museum, supper club before-hours fun, and some fantastic groveling. This book hit on emotional moments as well for both, Preston’s loss of his friend from the previous book and Katherine’s relationship with her father is changing after the loss of her mother 2 years ago. I loved seeing the friend group from the series in here: Preston is co-owner of the supper club from the previous book (Alice and Kit, The Lady Gets Lucky), we also see Nellie and the Duke of Lockwood (we get a teaser chapter for their book). If you’ve read other JS books, we even get an appearance of architect Eva from A Scandalous Deal (Four Hundred series book 2) which was so fun.

Thank you to the publisher (Avon Books) for an e-ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts in this honest review are my own. The Bride Goes Rogue has a publish date of May 24, 2022.

I waited a whole 9 hours from receiving this ARC to start it and have not stopped smiling since I started it. It was perfect!!! I love all of Joanna Shupe’s books, but her American series have such a special place in my heart. I loved all the Uptown Girls books and now the Fifth Avenue Rebels have kept up the heat and energy. This book tells the story of Katherine and Preston who were betrothed as children, but Preston declines to marry Katherine. The pair have an anonymous encounter at a masquerade and begin a casual affair that leads to real feelings.

And boy are the feelings are very strong in this one. You know how when you read and certain lines just punch you in the gut, well this book has several of those moments. I just kept highlighting and highlighting because page after page had beautiful passages of strength, devastation, and love. I especially loved the passages of Katherine choosing herself over the expectations and wants of others. One of the passages I highlighted that hit me hard was, “She had to come first. Know your worth. How had she forgotten?” The writing was just perfect.

I loved Katherine and Preston’s I hate you but I’m attracted to you relationship. They are also a sunshine / grumpy couple which makes me so happy. I loved that neither were perfect and both had their own issues to work through in order for them to come together. Joanna is one of those authors who understands the concept of cold storage and Preston had a lot of work and groveling to do, and the end result was so satisfying. I’m going to be riding the high of this book for days and will absolutely be rereading it. The good news is that we are (finally) going to get Nellie and the Duke’s book next. This book included a teaser of the first chapter and I am dying to get my hands on it.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and Avon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Bookstagram post coming in the coming weeks once I'm out of instagram jail.

This book was so great, really steamy with a great plot and well drawn characters. My 2 criticisms are: the father suffers no ill effects at lying to his daughter about his new relationship and then shoving it in her face. I did not like that Katherine didn’t make that a bigger deal, because it absolutely was terrible of him. My other criticism is the first time they have sex, it seems to come out of nowhere b/c she’s upset and is using sex as a distraction. It just played as slightly weird and uncomfortable and there was a sense that Preston was taking advantage of her emotional state, which I didn’t love. Otherwise, I loved the French party scene, I loved the obvious Romeo and Juliet parallels, I loved their friends interventions. It was great.

Oh my god. I didn’t think it would be possible to love Preston and Katherine as much as, let alone more than Kit and Alice, but good grief. Joanna Shupe is getting better and better with each book in this series. I loved that the French Ball mystery didn’t drag on for most of the book. Watching the relationship develop between the two felt natural, realistic and believable.

An immediate preorder to have on my bookshelf. Now I can hardly wait for Nellie and the Duke.

I do not want to be rash, but I may have a new favorite historical romance. Joanna Shupe never disappoints so I was eagerly anticipating this one and snatched it up the day it dropped then proceeded to devour it that night in one sitting. The wonderful setting of Gilded Age New York made me long to go. The modernity in which the heroine embraced her life made me smile. Not to mention that the groveling just did me in Also for those who care, this was quite steamy...in a way I don't remember Shupe's previous books. All in all run, don't walk to request this book from your library and/or preorder it. In the meantime I highly recommend the previous two books in this series.
