I don’t usually have much commentary on these types of books. Just because I didn’t find every single thing in it helpful doesn’t mean this isn’t helpful. I believe books like these are important!

For such a light book, this sure goes in deep. Each chapter focuses on a specific issue and I"m not gonna lie, some felt like they were specifically meant for my ears to hear.

I really enjoyed listening to this! The narrator's voice was very calming. There were a lot of tips that I'll be putting to use, and plan to purchase a physical copy to complete the exercises.
A big thanks to Netgalley & MacMillan Audio for providing me a copy to review!

This was a great audiobook to listen to! The narrator was perfect and had the right tone for such a topic. I also liked that this book could really apply to anyone whether they were new to the idea of therapy or a seasoned vet. I love books that you can jump around or read cover to cover, so really theres no reason not to read this!

Fantastic tips on how to take better care of yourself, and your emotions, and makes you feel like you are not crazy or alone in these crazy times. A very necessary and helpful book. It is by no means a replacement for getting a therapist. Think of it as something to listen to when you have a quiet moment and just could use the warmth from a warm blanket.
The author's voice is soothing and very calming. Because I listened to this in audio, I do not have access to the graphics and charts that I heard were in the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read a copy of this book! I'm just a few months late.

This book is a wonderful pocket guide to discovering who we are, and what we can do to be our best selves. Three words that describe this lovely little book in a nutshell: practical, helpful, realistic. The author presents the material in an easy-to-understand, relatable, and actionable manner.

I found this book very helpful. The author had a very kind voice which made the advice she gave even more accessible. I'd recommend to all readers- whether they are in therapy, are planning to be or have never been. There were a lot of tips and ways of re-framing that have stayed with me and will guide me in being more understanding to myself and others.

This book was a delight. I appreciate the approachable nature of Crosby's writing style, it doesn't feel scary, judgy, or *gasp* too much like therapy. I've been going through my own mental health journey for a few years now, but I still feel like I got a lot out of listening to this book. I can definitely see this becoming a book that I revisit to work through the "Take 5" exercises when I need to put in some extra self-work.

This is a lovely listen. The narrator's voice is soothing and perfect for inspiring reflection. Well-written and helpful.

The book is designed cleverly so that one can jump around to the issues they're dealing with at the time.
Sarah's voice is less of a therapist and more a good friend's advice, full of witty remarks and relatable anecdotes.
There were Take 5 reflection and evaluation moments at the ends of sections, journaling prompts, and plenty of assurances. I enjoyed this on audio and would certainly pick up a copy to follow through with exercises.
Thank you to Netgalley and MacMillan Audio for an advanced audiobook to listen to and review!

If you need som re assurance or a reminder that you are not alone please check this out.
The authors Irish brogue is like a hug.
It is an excellent read that does talk about tough things, but talking about the tough things makes them less tough.

I loved this little book of tips for how to take better care of yourself and your emotions. The author, who narrates the book herself in a lovely Dublin accent, gives a helpful overview of attachment theory and many mental-health disorders that you may or may not have and then provides lots of friendly advice on how to cope with all of them.
Apparently, this Irish psychotherapist has a large Instagram following (@themindgeek) from which this book was created. She also has a soothing warm way of speaking that somehow inspires confidence while also sounding down-to-earth.
I enjoyed a free audio version of this book thanks to Netgalley, McMillan Audio and St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review. However, much as I enjoyed the author's narration, I feel this would be better to have as a hard copy book because there is so much she talks about that you'd want to refer back to if you were trying to do the exercises she recommends. You also might want to just dip in to a specific section if it were addressing a problem you were coping with that moment, and that is hard to do via an audiobook. Plus I think the book has lots of graphics and charts similar to what the author posts on Instagram and you can't see them in an audiobook.
As another reviewer wrote, the cover looks like the book is going to be post-it level jargon,, but the book is actually genuinely helpful and deeper than it looks. Agreed! and highly recommend.

5 healing, therapeutic, soothing stars~
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing an audiobook copy for review!
This was an excellent self help read. I especially enjoyed Sarah Crosby's narration - I found her voice to be very soothing. This is important to be when listening to a narration on sensitive topics such as those covered here. This audiobook can be listened straight-through, or by section. Each section covers a different therapy subject. There are self-healing and recovery techniques throughout. There is also a lot of insight into attachment styles and manifestation of those in relationships, which I found very interesting and helpful.
I would recommend this book to everyone I know, honestly. Helpful and insightful.

#PocketTherapy by @themindgeek is also narrated by the author #sarahcrosby, who has a lovely irish accent. Listening to her outline what are the banes of our everyday existences was so #relieving and her tone is one of true #empathy. She sounds like she knows intimately these struggles we all go through. Many thanks to @macmillan.audio for providing this book for review (and for letting the author narrate it - hire her for more audiobooks please!).
Many thanks to @stmartinsessentials for publishing it. I'd like to say, reading this was so vital for me. Im at a crossroads, in many ways, and just hearing that its ok to be still learning and growing was an immense sigh of relief for someone my age. Sometimes we all look around us and wonder if we're only ones who dont seem to have their shit together. Well guess what, you're not the only one thats stuggling silently, and no, not everyone sees your struggle like you do!
This book goes through 8 chapters with different themes such as self discovery, recognizing triggers, setting boundaries, self regulations, reparenting, and my personal favorite: self-talk. A friend of mine just yesterday said that a person was exceptionally kind to her and it made her cry. That struck a chord with me because I have had those type of reactions too. I told my friend that for me, Im so hard on myself, and so seldom ever give myself a kind word, that it shocks me honestly to the core when someone else does. Its a sign that you are either surrounding yourself with people that are hypercritical OR you are the one berating yourself constantly, so that when someone is truly genuinely kind towards you, it throws you into emotional overload; hence, the crying. Has anyone else ever experienced this?? Btw the cover of this book and its title do nothing to promote the true depth and seriousness of the content of this book. I cant give an alternative, I just find its cover slightly cartoonish, as if its trying not to scare off the adults that need its wisdom. hmm lol ok maybe thats its genius then, who knows? I appreciate this book with my whole heart & recommend it to everyone. And I wish Ms Crosby could be my therapist, shes awesome.

Reviewing
Pocket Therapy
By Sarah Crosby
Here we see you Sarah Crosby‘s white size take on what shapes us as humans, the human psychology behind trauma, self exploration, how we react to different situations, and what impacts us every day. All these things can be daunting to face pocket therapy presents it small enough doses that it’s not quite so overwhelming. While this book is not a replacement for therapy, nor does it claim to be, it is a thought provoking approach to becoming a healthier you one day at a time.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who feels like they are in a bit of a mental rut, feeling down, or looking for a positive addition to their daytime routine.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For inspiring stars for a book that focuses on improving your mental health.

Why did I listen to Pocket Therapy?
I found Pocket Therapy on Netgalley as an audiobook and I decides to request it for two reasons. The first was based in the fact that I have been trying to listen to listen to more audiobooks through Netgalley. The second was based on the subject matter. Anything to do with self help and healing have been on the top of my radar. With everything that has occurred over the past couple of years, I am always looking for books that will offer me plenty of support.
What's the story here?
Pocket Therapy is an accessible way for people to possibly tackle the big and/or hard situations/questions using language that is easy to understand. Several therapeutic based terms are brought to attention and explained in a manner you could understand. The author, Sarah Crosby, is a licensed psychotherapist. After using the therapeutic based terms, she provided quick examples of a therapy practice that can be used to help readers reframe their life experience. The goal is to help readers tackle their "big questions" even if it is one step at a time.
How did I like Pocket Therapy?
Pocket Therapy is not a substitute for therapy but it is an accessible starting point. The author presents various ideas of self exploration and trauma psychology. You also learn and understand techniques which may help you with these ideas and/or trauma experiences. The author is obviously very knowledgeable regarding these topics and I found the way that she addressed these topics to be very soothing. She is open regarding some of her personal experiences and is continuously cautioning the reader that if one becomes overwhelmed using any of these techniques, they should seek a professional therapist. The same is encouraged if any topics feel over whelming. I think this book is a good beginning for those who seek therapy or self healing but are not sure where to begin. It is also a good introduction to the types of things therapy may be able to help someone with.
How is the narration?
Pocket Therapy is narrated by author Saran Crosby. It is 6 hours and 33 minutes long and was listened to at 1.5 speed. I found the narration to be very peaceful. The author is based in Dublin, Ireland which means you get to listen to her soothing Irish voice. I'm not sure what it is about it but, it was so relaxing to listen to. As the author is narrating, you can also hear the honesty and passion in her voice that she has for her research. This research is a wonderful introduction to therapeutic concepts and is something that can be easily referenced. After all, it is supposed to fit in your pocket!
Rating: 3.5 Stars

This is a great little guide to mental health with lots of tips and explanations of a range of different things. I especially appreciated the parts about attachment styles and found the book to be very validating as a whole. Bibliotherapy can be very effective either on its own or in conjunction with traditional talk therapy, and this book is a great resource for those looking for more insight into their mental state and how to care for it.
I listened to the audiobook of and enjoyed the narration.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

"Pocket Therapy" is a helpful book that addresses serious topics openly and concisely while using accessible language.

A brief, easy-to-use self-help guide chock full of easy-to-implement ideas that can help you be more "in the moment" and recognize as well as break bad habits. Author Sarah Crosby outlines ways to find your authentic self, creative a supportive script, and make time for yourself to help you become more grounded and enjoy time with others better. Attachment styles are explored and explained. Resources to help identify your triggers , understanding them, and recovering from stressors is also dealt with in an easy-to-approach manner. A great resource for one's self and one's community. Narration is calming and writing style feels like you're talking with a trusted friend.

A beautiful look though how to utilize your inner light in life and how to make your life brighter. Pun intended. Highly recommend. Especially loved the reflection to true life to humanize my feelings and relate. I felt like this book was SPEAKING TO ME. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
