I have read several books in the Andy Carpenter series, but this was my first book from the K Team series. I have to say that I enjoyed it just as much. Andy does make a few appearances, but this book focuses on Corey, Simon, Laurie and Marcus. The mystery kept me guessing, especially the importance of the playing cards. There were several twists and turns and the story moved at a good pace. I enjoyed the narrator of the audio book and will look for other books that he has narrated.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

ex-cop, family, cold-case, friendship, law-enforcement, lawyers, disappearance, multiple-murder, murder-investigation, private-investigators, retired K-9, snark-fest, sly-humor*****

The thing about Rosenfelt's books is that the stories themselves could be true crime with an unlikely (but astute lawyer) but are presented as clear fiction because of the sly humor which makes them fun instead of horror.
The publisher's blurb is a great hook, but the incredible due diligence carries the day with a lot of snarkiness. It really doesn't matter if you've read any of the Andy Carpenter books, this stands alone as a winner! Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force only to join up with a former colleague, the ex-cop wife (Laurie) of early retired lawyer Andy Carpenter. Excellent read with the most amazing twists!
Fred Berman narrates this fast-paced snark fest full of very interesting characters very well indeed!
I requested and received a free temporary audio copy from MacMillan Audio via NetGalley. Thank you!

David Rosenfelt wins again with this new mystery. The dialogue and interactions were so funny, and the typical Rosenfelt sarcasm shines through with this narrator.

I loved seeing Corey and Dani’s relationship evolve and I liked that we got to see more character development for Marcus. He is a secondary character who speaks in grunts and intimidation, but now we get to see a whole other side of him. Even Simon had some great scenes especially towards the end.

Overall this was a really fast read (almost like a novella) and a great addition that fans of Andy Carpenter and the previous K-9 books will love. These books are always so fun to try to figure out. Can’t wait for the next one!

This is my second David Rosenfelt read. Fred Berman did a great job narrating this advance listen copy of the audiobook that was reviewed. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen in exchange for an honest review.

David Rosenfelt has published dozens of books; this is only my second book of his that I've read. You can tell that he loves his canines in his books. As a dog lover, its probably the biggest draw for me reading his books, as Mystery & Thrillers isn't my typical genre.

Not all that long of an audiobook, less than 6 hours.

Good, but probably not going to make my "best of list" for 2022.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author David Rosenfelt, the narrator Fred Berman and the publisher Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is 15 March 2022.

This is the 3rd K-Team book. I didn’t realize that until I finished it & have since picked up the first 2!

Short, interesting private investigator story. The MC and his K-9 Simon were on the police force with Laurie. They have since left the force & contract with them to solve unsolved crimes.

This book is about one of the cold cases. They find out quickly that it’s a case they have knowledge of from their past and the perpetrators of that crime want it to stay unsolved at any cost.

I enjoyed the story as it unfolded. There were a few surprises and Corey was pretty funny. I need to go read the other two books now. Great quick fun action packed read!!

Citizen K-9 is another great novel from author David Rosenfelt. While this is the first book I have read. in this series, I have read several of Rosenfelt’s books in the Andy Carpenter Mystery book series. I just love Rosenfelt’s writing!

While Citizen K-9 is part of Rosenfelt’s K Team series, I tremendously enjoyed the read. I enjoyed the wonderful narration as well. As always, I will be looking forward to reading more from David Rosenfelt and his great cast of characters, including the canines!

Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for the advanced review copy of the audiobook version of Citizen K-9 in exchange for an honest review.

As a huge fan of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series, I was thrilled by the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of Citizen K-9, the third book in the K Team series, which is a spin-off of the Andy Carpenter series. This is my first chance to read any of the K Team books, and I was able to jump right in without having read the previous K Team books.

The K Team books feature retired cop Corey Douglas and his partner, K-9 Simon Garfunkel. I was delighted that just about all the other characters I know and love from the Andy Carpenter books appear in Citizen K-9, too. For those readers familiar with the characters from the other series, Laurie, Marcus, and Sam play important roles on Corey's investigative team, and Andy's dogs, the dog rescue foundation, and even bad guy Joseph Russo Jr all make an appearance.

Corey Douglas and his K Team are employeed by the Paterson Police Dept, headed up by Andy's friend Pete, to investigate a cold case involving the murder of two people when they left their high school reunion seven years ago. The K Team uncovers layers of bad guys and secrets, with Corey being the character in danger throughout the book. Corey is a no-nonsense retired cop with a conscience and a fierce instinct to protect those he loves. K-9 Simon Garfunkel just might be the star of the show, and he gets to show off his impeccable skills against the bad guys. I will certainly read more K Team books.

The narrator was easy to listen to and did a great job of differentiating between character voices when necessary.

Thank you to NetGalley, Mr. Rosenfelt, and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Citizen K-9 is a group formed by Laurie, Marcus, and retired K-9 officer Corey Douglas. The story follows the group as the police hand them a cold case to investigate. Two of Corey’s former high school classmates went missing 7 years prior at a reunion and no one has heard from them since. I thought the pace and details of the case were well thought out and I enjoyed trying to figure out what happened. I did find the main character-Corey- rather stiff and serious, but that is the point of the retired cop mentality. Not gonna lie, I picked this book up for the dogs so I wish there was a little more about the K-9 side. I also read this as a stand alone even though it is part of a series and I had no difficulty in following along.

Overall, this was a great read and I loved the premise of retired cop/private investigator solving cold cases!

This was an easy read and a good mix of humor and mystery. I love the K Team!

Corey and Laurie are former cops but they're now the K Team doing private investigation. They have a scary investigator Marcus (think muscle) and a German shepherd, Simon Garfunkel (aww, love the name!) as part of the team. K Team is tasked by the Paterson NJ police to help with some cold case homicides. While going through several cases, the one that stood out was one involving two old schoolmates both of whom vanished after their High School reunion seven years ago.

David Rosenfelt did a wonderful job with the story and characters that you can read as a standalone. Of course me being an Andy Carpenter fan, I can't help but wish there were more witty humor and sarcasm in this one. Fred Berman's voice is great as Corey and for the series. If you're looking for a quick, light mystery (not cozy), "Citizen K-9" hits the spot just right!

Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for this audio advance copy.

David Rosenfelt's new K-Team book Citizen K-9 is the best yet of this series. While this book is part of a series, it could also stand alone. The narrator of the audio book is nice to listen to and really brings the characters to life. The story is interesting and a fast paced easy read. The dry humor and fantastic characters throughout make all of  David Rosenfelt's books a delight to read.

Corey recently retired from the police force and is asked that his K team help with a cold case. Laurie, who used to be a cop and is part of the K team, had two of her friends vanish from a ten-year reunion. The team examines events leading up to the disappearance and it is evident that someone wants to stop the investigation. This is a great story and I love the way Rosenfelt writes. In the midst of the crimes, there is very clever humor. The book is a delight!

In this 3rd book in the 'K Team' series, the private detective agency investigates the disappearance of two people a decade ago. The book works fine as a standalone.

*****

The K Team series is a spin-off of Rosenfelt's humorous 'Andy Carpenter' mystery series, set in Paterson, New Jersey. Andy is a criminal defense lawyer whose wife, private detective Laurie Collins Carpenter, is the investigator for his firm.

Now Laurie is part of a new detective agency that calls itself 'The K Team.' The members of The K Team are Laurie; Marcus Clark - the toughest, scariest guy on the planet; Corey Douglas - a retired cop; and Simon Garfunkel - a K-9 German shepherd who worked with Corey at the Paterson Police Department.

The Paterson Police Department has extra money for consultants, so Homicide Captain Pete Stanton hires the K Team to look into a cold case. A decade ago, Chris Baskin and Kim Vogel left a high school reunion together and were never seen again. The schoolmates had no known personal relationship - and Kim was engaged to be married - so the duo vanishing at the same time is especially mysterious.

The K Team looks at old high school yearbooks to identify friends of the deceased, and interviews people who knew them. The detectives learn that teenage Chris Baskin was an intelligent nerd who belonged to organizations like the science club and the debate club, and adult Chris Baskin had a reputation for using drugs and gambling. As for Kim, she was an average high school girl who hung out with her friends.

The K Team speculates that Chris was killed because of his drug connections, and Kim - who became a responsible adult with a good job - was collateral damage.

Since Corey and Laurie are former cops they know the drug kingpins in Paterson, and they look into the possibility of a gang related hit on Chris. Investigation of the drug lords leads to threats against Corey's girlfriend Dani, whose life may well be in danger. Additional murders complicate the case, and the K Team has its work cut out for it.

As usual, the characters are a high point of the story. Corey and his dog Simon visit their old police precinct, and Simon struts through like the Grand Marshall of a parade, getting petted by everyone; tough guy Marcus dispatches bad guys before they even see him coming; gray-haired computer hacker Sam gathers information and tracks cell phones; Andy is tapped for free legal advice and take-out food and pizza for the K Team - four pizzas for Marcus and four pizzas for everyone else to share; Andy and Laurie's dogs Tara, Sebastian, and Hunter play with Simon; and so on.

Corey's intuition helps him unmask the perpetrators, who turn out to be a dangerous bunch. Corey is the story's narrator and his dry sense of humor - and sardonic comments - add fun to the tale.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Fred Berman, who does a fine job. Fans of the K Team won't want to miss this story.

Thanks to Netgalley, David Rosenfelt, and Macmillan Audio for a copy of the book.

I wanted to try an audiobook and since I love David Rosenfelt books I thought it would be good fit. The book itself I loved, I just wish it had been available as an ebook. Nothing against the narrator but I personally have a hard time with audiobooks. When I read I hear the characters and their voices in my head, and listening to someone read a story jars me.

Spin offs are not my favourite but I will make an exception for this K Team series. This is the 3rd in this spin off from the Andy Carpenter series and this is the best by far. The new set up for Corey, Laurie, Marcus and Simon, who make up the K Team, is interesting and will provide many new cases for this group of private investigators. In this case they are hired by the Paterson police department to investigate a cold case and try to solve the disappearance of two people. Is it a drug case? Did they run away together? Are they in the witness protection program? It is an interesting case and it keeps you interested. The audiobook is well narrated and the voice was perfect for Corey. Overall a fun new addition the the K Team series.

Another great novel by David Rosenfelt. I started listening to his books with the Andy Carpenter series and was happy that there was a spin off. This book was fun and intense. I binged it basically in a day. I'm very picky when it comes to audiobook narrators but the narrator for this one was fantastic.

Citizen K-9 is the first of David Rosenfelt’s books that I’ve had the pleasure of listening to, and I’m hooked! Corey Douglas’s witty nature and Simon Garfunkle’s fabulous skills combined with mystery and danger makes Citizen K-9 fabulous! Simon was my favorite character. After all, who isn’t taken with a brilliant German Shepherd with mad skills. And I literally laughed out loud throughout the story. The narrator did a fantastic job differentiating between characters and making them come to life. This book is a winner!

I am a huge fan of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series and, as such, came into this audio book with certain expectations. I initially found the going slow, rare for me with Rosenfelt. Corey Douglas is no Andy Carpenter but he has his own style and sense of humor, however. It's more subtle perhaps than Andy Carpenter readers are accustomed to but as the story went along and I began to fall into the rhythm, it emerged more fully. Corey is also dedicated to not just his dog, retired canine officer Simon Garfunkel, but his lady and when a subtle threat to her is sent, he becomes even more focused, if that is possible. Oh, still cool and collected but laser focused on eliminating the threat to her, even if it rests on shaky legal grounds or costs him his life.

Let's just say, just like Andy, Corey has a talent for putting himself in dangerous spots. Of course, Laurie and Marcus have his back. Ex-police officer Laurie, as Andy's wife, can also call on his lawyer know-how as needed, even if Andy quips constantly where he should be sending his bill. As always, Marcus is a force onto himself and, heads up, we learn something new about Marcus in this episode. Shhh, don't tell Andy.

The plot is based on the K-Team being hired to investigate a cold crime of pretty much their own choosing. It's almost a no-brainer that they would opt for the one regarding the death of a high school classmate after a reunion that Laurie and Corey both attended. As Corey and the team follow the clues with an assist from Andy and his accountant, computer hacker wiz Sam, it becomes increasingly obvious that there is someone out there who doesn't want this crime to be solved. Who are they annoying? Well, besides the mob? What do drugs and gambling have to do with it? Could the male victim's job be related? Where are the vicitms?

Bottom line, if you come into "Citizen K-9" with an open mind and allow the rhythm to cast its spell, you're likely to enjoy it tremendously. And, oh, did I mention, that Andy's dogs make an appearance? I may have had no clue who did it until the big reveal but, quite frankly, didn't care. I just sit back, turned on the audio and let narrator Fred Berman lure me onto the roller coaster that, as always, is a David Rosenfelt book.

Thank you #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for inviting me to drop in on the doings in Patterson and hang out with the K-Team and visit Andy's dogs again. Kudos for Rosenfelt's continued involvement in the real life Tara Foundation, btw.

Another great read/listen by David Rosenfelt. I like seeing how the characters overlap from the Andy Carpenter series , but that they get to tell their own story. The K-9 team is going at it again trying to solve a cold case. The more the get into the cold case, the more they find it still has present day ties. Each time they think they have it, another twist takes place. I like how Simon and Marcus are portrayed in this book and look forward to seeing what the team will be up to next.

I am a huge fan of David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series. The K Team is an offshoot of that series. The K Team is an investigative group formed by Laurie, Marcus and a retired K9 detective, Corey Douglas.
In this, the third book in the series, the Patterson police department has asked the K Team to investigate a cold case. One that just happens to involve two members of Corey’s high school class that went missing the night of a reunion 7 years earlier.
As with Rosenfelt’s Carpenter series, the mystery is well thought out and interesting. I didn’t suss out the culprit until revealed. But it lacks the trademark humor of the other series. It’s told from the POV of Corey, and he’s a straight arrow, unlike Andy’s wisecracking personality. However, there’s a surprise concerning Marcus that alone was worth reading the book.
Fred Berman is the narrator and does a decent job, though his voice doesn’t sound like how I would have pictured Corey’s voice.
My thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of this audiobook.

3.5 rounded up
This is my twenty-first novel by David Rosenfeld ~ True eighteen have been Andy Carpenter novels!
The David Rosenfeld humor has always been an entertaining Andy read!

Loved that Andy and friends played a role and since narrator Fred Berman was one of the narrators in the audiobook "Daisy Jones & the Six" (Which was an awesome audiobook!) so I was okay that this new series has a different audiobook narrator then the Andy Carpenter series. (Note: Narrator Grover Gardner’s deadpan voice is Andy in my book!)

I did find Corey Douglas unlikeable (as I am sure I was comparing him to Andy) also found his machos nasty language annoying/ Yep I went into this not expecting much but delighted it was better than expected so rounded up.

Want to thank NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audio eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 15, 2022.
