✨3.75/5✨ (rounded up)

I received the first five chapters of this novel in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley!

First things first, I really enjoyed the Mexican-American culture that this book brought, I loved the character development and how big and loud the family is! What's not sitting well with me is how abrasive Alex was towards Jeremiah when they first met. Now, I'm all for sexy spontaneous scenes, but she basically forced herself on him in the first chapter and then asked for consent afterwards and that just doesn't sit perfectly well with me. I will have to make the decision to continue reading once the full book is available.

Pros:
- Alex's strong personality
- Mexican-American culture/references
- Use of Spanish in the book

Cons:
- Uncomfy sex scene
- Alex is kinda a Beezy

Also, ngl I thought this was a wlw book from the cover, wasn't until I read the description that I realized that the red suited character was Jeremiah, and not the lesbian of my dreams. Sigh.

I'm so glad that I ended up getting the full version of this book because 5 characters was no enough but we did get a sex scene in the very first chapter cause it had me anticipating what the rest of the book would give. I will do more of a review on the full one.

These first 4 chapters were so good! That first chapter really slapped me in the face! I was like OMG WHAT?!

I immediately started reading the rest of the book. I know this is going to be a great book.

I enjoyed this extended preview of After Hours on Milagro Street, but I can’t decide how many books it will jump ahead on my TBR when it comes out. I like the premise, and the spice right up front in the first chapter, but the main character is so prickly that I am having a hard time getting fully on board. I’m sure I would grow to love her, but for the moment I will pass.

I love the voice of the narrator. It gives a great vibe to the main character, Alex. She seems realistic and cool but slightly rude at times. Also, this book preview is funny. I laughed out loud--which doesn't happen too often with books. This book really sucks you in. This is a book that I would 100 percent buy.

Also, that cover? So freaking cute!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me this eArc of this book to review.

I can't judge the book fully from the first 5 chapters but I did enjoy what I read. I like both characters, even with Alex leaning a little too much into 'badass' because I have a feeling that throughout the book, I feel like their characters will grow.

I look forward to reading the full book.

I am intrigued. The chapters provided were fun, informative and rich with family values and history that makes for good storytelling. The beginnings of a titillating enemies to lovers tale further enriches, with a spitfire, no nonsense heroine (who, I'm not going lie, annoyed me to no end) and an adorable dorky male lead, I'm bummed I only got to read five chapters. But I'm also grateful. This is definitely a story I'd pick up. I can tell I'd like it a lot.

After Hours on Milagro Street started off with a bang - literally!

After just five chapters, I can already tell this is going to be a really fun book and I can't wait to get my hands on the full-length thing. I'd really love to see Alex + Jeremiah's relationship bloom and Alex reconnect with her family. I'll definitely be continuing the story once I am able to!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a preview of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

A short spicy read about women who know what tf they want and aren't afraid to get it!
A beautiful homage to Mexican-American heritage, love and self power.
Loved, loved, loved this preview and I cannot wait to hear the rest of the book!

How can any romance reader say no to a book that starts with random bang fueled by whiskey and the need to let go? And it's a random bang that's the prologue to a forced proximity slow simmer.
I cannot wait to read this story in its entirety.

The first five chapters introduce readers to the Alex Torres. She's back in town to rescue her grandmother's restaurant, And to make her own comeback after a career setback she never could have anticipated. And her grandmother has a starchy tall drink of water as her tenant. A starchy tall drink of water who is an excellent outlet for Alex's unresolved tension and desire to put the world on the back burner every once in a while. Their first encounter is hotter than the spiciest Bloody Mary.

I read the first five chapters as part of a special preview and I can't wait until my pre-order gets here!

I was really looking forward to reading this excerpt. The book started off okay but I couldn’t get past the lack of consent from Alex. She didn’t wait for Jeremiah to consent before straddling him. He was shocked. Anyone that just met a strange would be at a loss for words if that stranger not only propositioned them and acted on it before getting consent. Even that line she said after “Who else is going to keep you safe from the ghost?”. It was creepy and she didn’t recover in my mind.

They definitely started hot and fast with After Hours on Milagro Street! The chemistry between the two leads jumps right off the page. I'm looking forward to the enemies to lovers dynamic and banter. I also want to see more of the family dynamic, since they have a large family.

Thank you Netgalley & Carina Press & Carina Adores (Harlequin) for the opportunity to read the chapter samples of After Hours on Milagro Street,

First off, there is no hesitation or slow build up to the events that occur between the main characters. As soon as I read the first chapter, my mind went right to "well, that exhalated quickly and okay I guess there's no time to process what just happened". I do think that Alexis is a but overbearing as the main female character, if she has a moment where all that pent up anger can be expelled and have a normal conversation, then maybe I would have taken a better interest in her and why she's so anger about the purchase of the bar.

However, I am interested in seeing what happens to her relationship with the professor and if she ever comes to terms with what she wants.

This preview part was so incredibly good! I couldn’t put it down. Somehow I was lucky enough to have the author herself send me a link to the full book which I’m currently reading. A string badass lead. A nerdy but cute MC. Love it

I read the teaser here and immediately went in search of an ARC elsewhere because I was hooked. A lot. Historical romance is my jam, but this story is so.good. I love a good enemies to lovers story, and I love thorny characters, both of which . The subplot re: the history of the community and Alex's family specifically, and Jeremiah's work as a historian and the representation of latine culture is so engaging. And the tension and pining is FIRE. So. So. Good.

*whistles* This was a great preview to the book and I definitely plan to request the full version! The first five chapters set up the story really well. Alex is a firebrand, the kind of punk rock chick who does what she wants and will do anything to get it. I'm really curious to see where her story arc goes, because while I wasn't sure about her in the first chapter, she really grew on me during the rest. Jeremiah as the quiet professor is intriguing too with his own secrets. And their chemistry is amazing! Her family, while large, still have their own unique characteristics that help distinguish them from one another. Plus, the building itself is acting like a character too, which is so fun.

Props to the author for hooking me into the story in just a couple of chapters!

Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for the preview of After Hours on Milagro Street.

The beginning five chapters of this book were phenomenal! The first chapter had me hooked. I really, really enjoy an enemies to lovers troupe and I think the plot and characters have all the potential to create a stellar story. I would recommend putting this on your TBR list because I am sure this will be a prospective spicy booktok favorite!

I loved the first 5 chapters of After Hours on Milagro Street and I'm so excited to read more about Alex and Jeremiahs journey and watch them grow together.

There was so much to love about this book straight off the bat. I was instantly interested in all of the characters who seem to have big, bursting personalities that just made me want to learn more about all of them.

This is marked as contemporary romance but it already feels like it's going to be so much more and I can't wait.
