I was provided a copy of sample of this book via Netgalley. I would describe After Hours on Milagro Street by Angelina M. Lopez as instant attraction becomes opposites attract and business rivals. Two main characters that couldn’t be more different having to navigate their attraction to each other while seeking completely different goals. The family and cultural dynamics help introduce a story with lots of potential.

The first chapters are fun enough, although pacing is a tad slow, I'm hoping it will catch up as the story progresses! The premise is fun and interesting, and Alex is the MC of dreams. Excited for this particular romance!

I got through two and a half chapters before deciding that this one isn't for me. There are things to like here--the Mexican-American culture, the atmosphere of the bar, and the heroine's grandmother--but the main characters both felt exaggerated instead of natural to me, he in his sweetness and she in her toughness. I also didn't love that the heroine pushed the hero into a chair and jumped into his lap five minutes (if that) after introducing herself to him without getting his consent until AFTER she'd done it. If a guy did that to a woman he'd just met it would be wrong, and the role reversal shouldn't make it okay. Also, why does the professor hero wear a Rolex? Can't he just be a professor with a professor's income? Does every hero need to be rich?

The main trope here (enemies/rivals-to-lovers) isn't one I'm crazy about, but I was intrigued by the Midwestern Mexican-American family since I hardly ever see them in romances. I'm grateful to the publisher for making a sample available for that reason.

This book looks so fun and sexy! I loved reading the opening chapters and absolutely can not wait to finish this story!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

I was approved for a digital preview of five chapters of an ARC via Netgalley and from the Carina Press though all thoughts are my own.

This was quite the spicy book from the beginning and was not expecting a certain scene between Alex and Jeremiah who seems like a sweetheart of a Professor!

Alex has come back to her hometown because her Grandma Loretta is recovering from a bad fall, she's been recently fired from her job in Chicago, she's hoping to turn her Grandma Loretta's bar into something much more popular and to make more money and then hopefully get on with another part of her life. What she doesn't expect is to find that Jeremiah is more than just a tenant that happens to be letting a room at her Grandma's bar and turning the bar around may be more than Alex had anticipated.

I have not read the full book though I am really interested in doing so when it's available and I am so excited to see how things go especially between Alex and Jeremiah!

The first 5 chapters were definitely cute steamy. I found Jeremiah adorable. Not gonna I had a hard time liking Alex. I would love to read more to see if she gets more likable but right now not so much.

This books seems so interesting! There’s a LOT that happens in this preview, but I’m so intrigued. I love the fiery temperament Alex has, and I’d love to see where the rest of the story takes her. Here for a strong independent female lead!

The description of this book sold me when it mentioned "the large, boisterous Torres clan." I instantly related and had high expectations. This book has a lot of promise. It is evident very early on that there is exceptional chemistry between the two. Excited to read more!

What is there to say about this book?!?! I love Latinx love stories and can already tell this will be one of my faves. The characters have chemistry, the set up is amazing, and the ambiance is enticing. Looking forward to reading the rest so i can write a full review.

Already so hyped for this book with just the preview. I can already see the potential and I just reallyyy can't wait to get into it when I read the whole book. From the few chapters I read I'm already loving the chemistry between the two leads, can't put into words just how excited I am.

I am so thankful to be given a preview of this book, because it is fantastic! The book revolves around Alex, a twenty-something disgraced bartender who moves back to her hometown with the intent of purchasing the family bar from her Grandmother. However, Alex soon finds out that the professor living upstairs from the bar has offered to purchase the building.

This book has a lot going for it: a brief history on the Mexican-American population of the Midwest, strong family relationships, and (hopefully) an enemies-to-lovers trope. I cannot wait to get my hands on a full copy of this book to find out what happens to Alex and Jeremy.

Headstrong Alejandra “Alex” Torres is back in her hometown to buy her grandmother’s bar and turn it into a booming business. On her first night back, she meets a professor living in one of the rooms on top of the bar and later finds out he is also interested in buying the bar.

The first chapter definitely surprised me starting off so so so quickly. The whole issue of having other interested buyers and being forced to live with one of them (the professor) sold me on wanting to read more of the book. I will say though that people might find that the mc has a strong personality and may not like them (to each their own!!).

NetGalley and Carina Press provided an e-ARC of the first 5 chapters in exchange for my honest review

4.5 ⭐️

I only received 5 chapters of this book but Ms. Angelina Lopez delivered! Our headstrong MC, Alex, is back in town and ready to take over her grandparents’ bar. Her family is hesitant to pass it to her, and in their defense, her intentions don’t seem pure.

As we learn the family dynamics, we also meet the adorkable love interest, Jeremiah (AKA The Professor), who gives the strong golden retriever boyfriend energy I love!

I absolutely adore the characters already and am excited to see how they develop throughout the rest of book!

After Hours on Milagro Street promises to be a fiery romance. The chemistry between the two main characters is immediate. This later leads to an awkward situation when their identities are revealed. They are then forced to share a living space and it becomes clear that they are competing for Loretta’s bar. Alex and Jeremiah couldn’t be more different. I really liked Alex’s charisma, confident attitude, and strong commitment to family. This preview really set the characters up in an untenable situation, where they will be forced to fight for what they believe in. I couldn't look away! After Hours on Milagro Street releases on July 12, 2022. Thank you so much to Angelina M. Lopez, Carina Press, and Netgalley for a free chapter sampler in exchange for honest feedback.

WHEW after reading just the first 5 chapters, I can't wait to finish the rest. I"m a sucker for a good enemies to lovers romance, especially one with a bit of spice and heat *wink wink*. Love the dynamic between the main characters, as well as the focus on family relationships and legacy. Looking forward to July, when I can read the full book!

I like reading books about strong women and Angelina Lopez writes strong women. Family is important to the Torres.’ They’re loud and they love hard. Alex Torres will do whatever it takes to save her grandmothers bar. Professor Jeremiah Post enters the picture and seems quiet, but also like the perfect match for Alex and her loud family. I look forward to reading the rest of Milagro Street when it’s available to know the rest of their story

*Review is based on the first 5 chapters available on Netgalley*

I was definitely intrigued upon reading the description for this title! I love a good rivals to lovers-esque read, and that seems to be the direction the story is headed straight for.

Alex Torres is not your typical romance protagonist; she’s opinionated, narcissistic, and is unapologetically selfish in her needs, which leaves me curious about how she will grow as a character, especially opposite the more timid Professor Post.

The read started a bit strong for my tastes, but it may be appealing to others. I don’t particularly like Alex, but hopefully that’s the intended purpose of the writing and will change later in the book. I do like the exploration of Alex’s family dynamics. Seems like it will be an interesting read!

Such a cute and steamy read. I really like this book and now I can’t wait to check it out. I didn’t expect the steam would start right from the jump but I was definitely into it. The chemistry between the two MC’s was so obvious I had to keep reading. Will be keeping an eye out for this title.

the first five chapters were very good! i was hooked on the story from the beginning and i’m so excited to see where it goes, especially the relationship between alex and her family. i love how different alex is from many characters i’ve read before. in so many romance books the woman is always the shy and reserved one so i’m excited that the author did the opposite. i’ll definitely be reading the whole book when it comes out, can’t wait!
