Another NetGalley book, I checked off my list ✔️

And why did I wait so long to read it?! I love Mary Kay Andrew’s, and she has the perfect , cozy day reads! This one was so much fun, and I really enjoyed it!

“Hattie Kavanaugh went to work restoring homes for Kavanaugh & Son Restorations at eighteen, married the boss’s son at twenty, and became a widow at twenty-five. Now, she’s passionate about her work, but that’s the only passion in her life. “Never love something that can’t love you back,” is advice her father-in-law gives her, but Hattie doesn’t follow it and falls head-over-heels for a money pit of a house. She’s determined to make it work, but disaster after disaster occurs, and Hattie’s dream might cost Kavanaugh & Son their livelihood. Hattie needs money, and fast.

When a slick Hollywood producer shows up in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, she gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: star in a beach house renovation reality show called The Homewreckers, cast against a male lead who may be a love interest, or may be the ultimate antagonist. Soon, there’s more at stake than bad pipes and dry rot: during the demolition, evidence comes to light that points to the mysterious disappearance of a young wife and mother years before.”

The cold case aspect, the characters, the plot, I loved it all! It was a quick read, that kept me interested from the start. I always have loved home improvement shows, and this was such a fun read!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, for this free review copy.

Hattie Kavanaugh works for her late husband's father in the family construction business. She loves cleaning up and restoring old houses and flipping them. But the house she bought with the life insurance ends up being a flop and she has lost her confidence. . Soon she finds herself in with the offer to be the center of a reality show renovating a beach house cast against a possible love interest.. She is reluctant at first but decides this might be her chance to redeem herself.

The Homewreckers was a quick and easy read with some romance and mystery.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley, for providing this ARC.

This books covered everything. It was a reality home improvement meets rom-com, meets closed door mystery and I was here for all of it. I throughly enjoyed reading this book.

Is this a romance within a mystery or a mystery within a romance? Either way it's fun.
When Hattie Kavanaugh is approached to do a television home makeover show in her hometown of Savannah she is hesitant but needs the money and exposure to revive her business. As expected there are construction issues, scheduling pressures and then the discovery of a body linked to a 17 year unsolved disappearance. This is another very comfortable read.

When a young widow gets a chance to save the business she built with her husband, she jumps at the chance. She finds the reality show is not quite as easy as she had thought, especially when her co-worker stirs her emotions and leaves her confused. Another great Mary Kay Andrews romance / fiction that gives you the .....sigh....ending.

The Homewreckers marks the second book I've read by Mary Kay Andrews (the first being The Santa Suit) and I am glad to say that I enjoyed this one a heck of a lot more than the first. I took a risk picking this up in the middle of a massive reading slump (the last three books I read just did NOT work for me), and I was pleasantly surprised by how well this HGTV knock off storyline lured me in and kept me flipping all 435 pages.

Here are 4 things I liked about THE HOMEWRECKERS:

1. This book had a good mix of character development and background, plot moving storyline, and some mystery mixed in. There was just enough of each aspect to keep me invested and not so much that it felt like overkill (for instance, I never felt like we were getting too into the nitty gritty about, say, painting the cabinets in the house, or something). It kept moving!

2. The setting on Tybee Island made this the quintessential summer read, with descriptions of hot, humid air and a beachy backdrop. I will have to make her future books always be on the docket for the warm months, because this was just perfect.

3. The main character, Hattie Kavenaugh, was likable and endearing, and carried her own in a mostly male dominated industry (contracting work). We also got to see her have to struggle through some very human things, like grieving her husband, feeling torn on being attracted to someone new, and making poor financial decisions.

4. I love some true crime, so the whole solving a cold case situation really was the icing on the cake for me! So much fun to read and wasn't so heavy that it felt scary. I think anyone could read it without having nightmares.

My biggest drawback to this one happens in the last 75 pages or so, and I don't want to spoil that, but it wasn't a huge deal. I still really enjoyed the reading experience and will definitely read more books by MKA!

This was such a fun read! I always enjoy having a Mary Kay Andrews book for the summer. The book is set in the coastal town of Savannah and follows Hattie Kavanaugh, who is navigating a home renovation. She’s a super relatable main character that is easy to root for as you follow her journey. The book had a great mix of romance, friendship, and a little mystery.

Mary Kay Andrews is a legendary author for a reason!!! Who doesn't love an MKA Book?? A perfect romance and feel good book. Netgalley continues to grant my request for MKA books and for that, I am so grateful! Thank you Netgalley!
I hope both OG and new readers to Mary Kay Andrews pick this book up! It's a great one.

Mixing mystery, romance and DIY, this book has it all. Building contractor Hattie doesn’t quite know what she is getting into when TV producer Mo asks her to do a TV show rehabbing an historic Savannah house. Arc from NetGalley.

A fun mystery set in the South where a home renovation uncovers long held secrets. I always look forward to a new Mary Kay Andrews book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I requested this one because she is one of my favorite authors and I will request anything that I see...and will one day catch up to all of the older books from before I discovered her. I loved the book as much as I have the others but I'm not going to lie...for whatever reason, it took me a bit longer than normal to relate to the characters in any way...on the plus side, it was taking place in Savannah...a place I have been to many times...so I knew a lot of the areas they were talking about. Do I like Savannah? Heck no, I do not...but she almost made me like it with the way she described it. And eventually I did warm up to the characters...except for a few. :)

This book was simply too long. There were too many characters that I just didn't care about. The storyline was mediocre, at best. Hattie restores old houses. She works for her father-in-law and is still mourning the loss of her husband (7 years ago). Some random guy comes into town, eavesdrops on a conversation and decides that he wants Hattie to be the star of his reality TV show about restoring an old house in Savannah.

Weak plot line to start but it just gets worse. They discover a wallet in the wall from an English teacher who disappeared 17 (18? I don't actually remember) years ago. Oooh. Why is it in the house? What happened to her?

So there's that "mystery," although it's not exactly a real thriller of a mystery. There's some mild romance that doesn't make any sense or have any steam. And there are some very unprofessional things that happen that aren't addressed at all on the set of this TV show. It all works out as it should, obviously, but getting there took about 100 pages too many.

This one was such a fun read! Sometimes I don't always love Mary Kay Andrews' stories as much as other people. But I really fell in love with this one!
Even though the beginning was just a tad bit slow, a little more than halfway through I found myself unable to stop reading.
The whole southern vibe was just glorious. I loved it so much!
If you want a cozy-ish little beach read with some humor, mystery and a bit of romance from a seasoned and beloved author--this one is for you!

Throw this one in your beach bag...The Homewreckers is a cute romance with a mystery thrown in. The Savannah setting is perfect, makes me want to take a trip there with a couple of beach days on Tybee Island. Since I really like to watch home makeover shows, the premise is fun and interesting. The characters are pretty one-dimensional, but who cares, Hattie is a perfect leading lady.and you'll root for her throughout the book.

Mary Kay Andrews is one of my go to authors that I look forward to every spring. Set in South Carolina as almost always. Beachy setting with relatable characters

Cute concept just not for me. I thought the pacing was just too slow. I think it would be a cute easy beach read especially if you are into home renovation shows/DIY

Mary Kay Andrews is my go to for beach reads, or when I need something a little lighter between thrillers! I love her writing and characters and the stories just feel like home. They are just enjoyable reads that make me laugh, think and lose myself to the story. The Homewreckers was no exception! I loved the romance, the mystery and being set in Savannah was icing on the cake! Although the mystery is predictable, it doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Loved this book, just as I predicted I would, the only thing I wish is that I would have picked it up sooner. Next time you’re packing a beach or pool bag, throw this one in there!

Mary Kay Andrews has done it again - written the perfect summer read! This is both a romance and a mystery, and it has a little reality mixed in.Hattie is a fun character, as is Cass - I loved seeing strong, capable wonen at the head of contracting jobs.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley; all opinions are my own,

This is such an interesting book with characters that are definitely on the gray side. I really enjoyed the point of view in this story, and was intrigued from beginning to end.
