Thank you NetGalley for my arc. I LOVE Mary Kay Andrews’ books! It always signals the start of summer for me when a new one comes out.
Another great read! I love how she ties a romance and mystery all into one.
Hattie makes a living restoring old houses in Savannah. Mo offers a job to Hattie making a tv show out of the newest old house she has bought. A designer Thae, from LA, is sent in with crazy ideas. As if Hattie doesn't have enough problems there is a wallet found behind a wall that belonged to teacher that disappeared years ago.
This was an ARC from St Martin's Press and seen on the website NetGalley.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
In Mary Kay Andrews' latest novel we meet Hattie Kavanaugh, a fiercely independent woman who works for her father-in-law's company renovating houses. Along comes an opportunity for a TV show in which she is paired with a home decorator as thry work to flip a century old house on Tybee Island. Of course things go wrong, a decade old mystery is uncovered, and there is romance thrown in the mix.
Although I felt there were a bit too many characters and storylines meshed together, in the end it worked out and was a fun story. Definitely be sure to grab The Homewreckers foe this summer's latest beach read!
This book is the perfect summer time read. This book was half rom-com and half mystery. This follows Hattie, a young widow on her redemption path of flipping a house after making a back call, however she agrees to do it for a brand new tv show. Fun, easy to read, and I just loved it.
This book is a fun romp through rom-com tv drama excellence! The characters are relatable and fun! I particularly love the way the romance was written. I truly see this as the next viral TikTok moment!!
The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews is the perfect summer read. It's part romance, part mystery - a very intriguing story.
Young widow Hattie Kavanaugh is in the home renovation business with her late husbands dad. They fix them and they flip them.
Mo who works for the HPTV network recruits Hattie for a tv show. She bids on a condemned house on Tybee Island and once it's hers the show starts filming. They quickly discover the house holds clues to an unsolved missing person case from many years before.
With a touch of the South this is a fun read!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Mary Kay Andrews is a reliable source for a fun vacation companion book. This book is a great example. House flipping is a tricky business. Who knows what one will find when gutting for renovation? Perhaps a body? Throw in a reality TV show 9with obnoxious co-hosts and you have a pretty engaging read. Enjoy.
The best summer novel possibly by the indisputable queen of the beach reads! This was a great take on the various shows focusing on flipping properties, with a mystery and some romance thrown into the mix!
This book made me feel all the feels! I loved the characters, I loved the way the story developed, I loved the murder twist mixed in. I read the last page and just wanted more! 5 stars for sure.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC copy of The Homewreckers!!
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for Goodreads. This was my 9th MKA book. I always compare all of her books to two my favorites of hers- Sunset Beach and The High Tide Club. My second favorites are The Weekenders and Summer Rental. The reasons these are my favorites are because of the mystery element involved and also the stronger the beach vibes are, the more I will like the book. This one had some beach vibes but not a ton in my opinion.
The Homewreckers contains a murder mystery, but it still does not beat my favorites. The Homewreckers feels like a combination of Beach Town and one of the mystery oriented stories due to the TV show aspect involved. I don't love the trope of being on reality TV in any book (just my personal preference), but if you DO like a reality TV aspect, it is worth noting that I did like this one WAY better than Beach Town.
There were a lot of characters in The Homewreckers. A few too many for me to be able to keep good track of throughout the story. When the murderer was finally revealed, I was like "Wait a second who is that again?" Lol. Also, there were a lot of possibilities right from the start of the book for who would end up being the love interest.
Overall it was still fun. I enjoy all the cute southern expressions that her characters always throw around. I love MKA's sense of humor. The audiobook was good also. I liked the narrator.
I went in thinking this would be a classic romance book, but it's so much more! It ended up being a who-done-it book. I was initially drawn to The Homewreckers as it is a play on an HGTV show being filmed around fixing up a historic house.
Loved everything about this book! It had all great ingredients - home flipping/renovations with a reality show twist, murder and romance - and a great setting!! Seriously could not put down once I started reading! Thank you MKA for another great book and thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Get comfy for another fun read by Mary Kay Andrew’s. This story centers on a wreck to riches reality TV makeover story and all it’s drama. Throw in an old mystery and secrets plus a little romance and you have the making of a reading escape!
Quick read, enjoyable enough characters draw you in. Storyline is fun, showing the good, the bad and the somewhat ugly of the current realty TV craze. Towards the end it did feel a little drawn out and I didn’t quite feel the sexual tension between the characters. But, it’s a fun getaway to beautiful Savannah with its beautiful old homes.
Thanks to Ms. Andrews, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.
This was not my favorite Mary Kay Andrews book - it was very hard for me to get into and connect to the characters. I wanted the focus to be on different parts of the book. There was so much potential to have this have a bigger mystery with the romance overlay.
Super cute, great beach read as always by MKA! I did feel it was a little long, but if I was on vacation for a weekend at the beach it would be the perfect length :) I really enjoyed the setting in savannah as well. Her characters are always very lifelike and realistic and make getting sucked in to the story that much easier!
This book was one of MKA's best. It is a mystery, reality tv show and romance all mixed into one. This is an extra fun story because I met MKA in person at the Friends and Fiction event in Cleveland and this story takes place on Tybee Island and Savannah Georgia where I have visited often. I didn't want the story to end and I wish it could be made into a real tv show on HGTV. Highly recommend this one.
I am normally a fan of Mary Kay Andrews works. She certainly is an awarding winning author whose novels are known to kick off the summer season. That being said, this particular book didn't do it for me. In my opinion, it was trying to be too many genres to too many people and got lost in the shuffle of putting everything on the page.
It is the perfect novel for fans of HGTV and those who watch home improvement shows, like The Property Brothers. The Homewreckers centers around Hattie and Cass, two female contractors in a male dominated world and their new task of rehab-ing a very old beach house on the coast of Georgia. They have caught the attention of a show producer and start filming the progress. If only a little cold case mysterious disappearance from 15 years ago didn't stand in the way of their television success.
This novel is part drama, part romance and part mystery and only does a so/so job at accomplishing any of the intended interest. There are so many characters vying for page space the story gets watered down and the chapters just keep going.
If you are new to Mary Kay Andrews, I would suggest picking up another one of her otherwise fabulous beach reads and starting there.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of this novel.
Perfect beach read this summer! Super cute story with a fun cast of characters, a home remodeling show and a cozy mystery to solve. Thank you Netgalley, St. Martins Press and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a cute sorry but I liked her release last summer (2021) better. This was a mix of romance and a bit of mystery but with so many plot lines it was too short to fit it all in.
I thought the romance was completely lacking. I was honestly surprised at Mo’s grand gesture at the end of the book. And the mystery plot line of the missing woman seemed a bit too easily solved.
It was an easy beach read and well written. I just don’t think it’s one of this authors best books.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
🪜Love, murder, and faulty wiring ensue when Hattie flips a house for a new hgtv show.
👍🏼the characters and the premise
👎🏼 it was a little drawn out
✅ If you’re looking for a fun, summer read this “chick lit” book is for you. There’s a little bit of romance, but I like that the premise is more around Hattie’s personal development and house flipping business. The murder mystery was a fun add on but at times it was a lot going on plot wise.
An easy read perfect to kick off your summer beach or poolside 😎
