Okay. Don’t judge me. This was my FIRST EVER Mary Kay Andrews book. I know, I know- where have I been?! I’m so glad I finally have joined the MKA train, even if I’m just joining on her 30th book! She lives up to her title as the queen of summer reads (aside from Elin, of course). The Homewreckers was the perfect escape that I flew through in one beach day. It’s romantic suspense chick-lit with house flipping and murder. And I ate it up. 4 stars from me! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

While this book was a fun read, it seemed to drag on a bit and the instant-romance towards the end felt too forced for me. I loved the aspect of renovating a 100-year old home in Tybee Island (I love Savannah so the setting of this book held a lot of appeal for me). I enjoyed the mystery plot line intertwined with the home reno plot line, but again, it felt like the book kind of dragged along in the middle.

Mary Kay Andrews books are always how I kick off my summer reading list, so I was thrilled to be given an ARC of this one!! Staying true to herself, Andrews ties mystery, heartbreak, friendship and suspense all into this deliciously fun book.

Looking to keep from going bankrupt, widowed Hattie agrees to a renovation show focused on the old homes she loves to work on. Along with her best friend, cohost and production crew they endure the renovation AND a decades long mystery surrounding a missing teacher. With so many things possibly hindering her shows success, filming deadline and blossoming romance, Hattie digs deep to try and get ahead!

This fun, twisty novel will have you thinking you have it all figured out (several times), before coming to a beautiful end. Definitely a worthwhile pick to add to your reading list!

The Homewreckers is my first book by Mary Kay Andrews but I will definitely seek out her other books. This story set in Savannah and Tybee Island gives a great sense of this part of Georgia both by her descriptions of the area as well as the tapping into the culture of the area. Hattie is a character that you want to root for and this love story with a bit of mystery kept me entertained and returning to the book. My only quibble was the speed by which she fell in love with one of her male co-workers but that may be me being cynical.

I enjoyed the behind the scenes look at home improvement shows and the various characters who were each quite distinct. If' you'd like a love story with some mystery set in the south then this could be a great beach read.

Mary Kay Andrews is the queen of summer and I get so excited when her books come out each year! They transport you (usually to some sort of beach or warm weather town) and have both family dynamics and a little bit of mystery attached. The homewreckers is another A+ from MKA and I will forever be recommending her books to everyone! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review and I look forward to next years book!

I wasn't hooked on The Homewreckers until about 60% into the story. At 400+ pages, it runs a little long for a typical summer beach read. There are a lot of characters, which keeps you guessing with the murder mystery. And for some reason, many of the characters have unusual and hard to pronounce names, which made for a clunky read. I think the star of the book is the setting of Savannah and Tybee Island. I've never been, but I wanted to hop on a plane and walk the historic streets of Savannah and feel the sea breeze on Tybee Island. The dialogue is very Southern, but there is also a lot of "The South vs. LA city life" chatter, which got a bit repetitive. I was more interested in the murder mystery than in the romance and the home renovations. The romance felt off. The character of Trae was not convincing to me. Overall, it's a light read and at times, funny, but the story could be tightened up and streamlined to make for a better flow.

#13 & a NetGalley book I got to read and review and this a fun one. Set in Savanna/Tybee Island with a HGTVesq backdrop, the characters are easy to relate to and the writing is spunky. You can tell the author knows the area as well as Elin Hilderbrand knows Nantucket. The cold case weaved into the story is the icing on the cake. This will make for a good beach read!

I have come longing for summer, just to read some of my favorite authors, and Mary Kay Andrews is definitely one of them. A little mystery, romance and comedy, Andrews typical style, are in surplus with her latest novel.

Hattie is a widow of 7 years at only 32. The only job she knows is restoring old homes of Savannah. When a flip goes badly , she is a offered a reality show to do what she knows best, rehab a house. With a ton of hesitation she agrees to help recoup her losses of the last disaster. This is where the story get’s rolling.

As you can imagine, anything that you can think of goes wrong including finding the dead body of a beloved teacher that went missing when she was in high school. With the town against her and setting her up for disasters again and again all within a tight work schedule makes for the comedy in this book.

This is not my favorite of Mary Kay Andrews, but even though it is not a favorite I am so glad to read another book from Andrews. This will make you smile and is a great start to the summer reading season.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A new Mary Kay Andrews book about flipping houses with romance and mystery? Count me in!

The Homewreckers centers around a new home renovation show pitched for HPTV.

When violations from the city begin to pile up due to mysterious reports, the house is vandalized, and evidence from a 17-year-old cold case is dug up on site, the show starts to get unexpected publicity.

The Homewreckers is a beach-read style book with a hint of romance and slow-burn mystery that is perfect for fans of home improvement shows. After a few weeks full of little projects around our own home, this book was a fun escape that I looked forward to each night.

The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews was the perfect cup of tea for me to sit back, relax and ready a cozy mystery, romance, with a little but of Murder Mystery during my spring break vacay.

I absolutely loved the feistiness of the main character, Hattie Kavanaugh. She shows that construction and DIY remodeling is not just a mans job. She started out at the age of 18 working for Tug at Kavanaugh and Sons Restorations and worked her way up the chain learning from Tug and becoming her own boss. Sadly at 25 years old, she became a widow when her husband was killed in a motorcycle accident. She makes a bad decision to buy a home that was a money pit and had to cut her losses and offboard the home for a loss of money, but during the process meets HTV producer, MO. Mo is immediately interested in Hattie and makes her an offer to star in her own network show called "Saving Savannah".

The name of the show and the concept gets turned upside down by the Sponsor, Rebecca, and is renamed to be "Homewreckers" (hence the title of the book) and will not only star Hattie, but will also star celebrity designer & Hottie, Trae.

As always with any Mary Kate Andrews novel, there is always an underlying mystery that captures the readers attention and draws them immediately into the "who done it" conversation. As well as the characters being some very likable and others, you hate. I also loved all the issues they had in fixing up the home and especially the behind-the-scenes moments of filming a DIY show. The romance was light but I did like the triangle romance between Hattie, Trae & Mo. I knew who would end up the real couple in the end.

I would definitely recommend The Homewreckers to anyone who loves a strong female lead, romance, lots of humor, a little bit of mystery and overall a nice summer read.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for my pre-release copy & to Mary Kate Andrews for allowing me the opportunity to review your new release. I am absolutely sure this will be on everyone's summer reading list for 2022!

The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews is a murder mystery, a romance, and a harsh appraisal of the home fix-up programs so popular on television. Hattie is 33 years old and a widow. Hank had gone off on his motorcycle one night and never come home, hit by an unidentified drunk driver. She was a trusted employee, as she had been for years, of his father's business. She ran a construction crew who did remodels as well as flip homes. They were in Savannah, which was full of wonderful old homes, most of them too expensive to buy and flip, no matter their condition. She had gotten sucked into one and was losing her shirt and her father-in-law's, as well. It was then she met Mo Lopez, who tried to convince her to star in a new TV program: Saving Savannah. She said no. But she was convinced, mostly by Cassie, her best friend and construction foreman. She forgot this big house and set out to find one she could manage. She hocked her engagement ring and swallowed her pride and borrowed from her father. She was all in, if no one else was. It got to be a challenge.

Lots of things going on in this book, not the least of which was Hattie coming alive again after seven years of widowhood. She nearly did it with the wrong person, which would have kicked her right back into the depths. She has a bad tendency to fall in love with the houses she flipped. "Never fall in love with something that can't love you back." Nothing but problems on this new site. It was killing her. Was it cursed? Or was someone causing them on purpose? Then, they discovered the wallet in the wall. It belonged to her favorite English teacher, Lanier Ragan, who had disappeared 17 years ago and never been heard from again. That got a police officer interested: Detective Makarowicz, Mak. Then, more things went wrong. A skeleton was discovered. Trae, her co-star was cutting corners. Not her style. Life was beyond complicated. What a great book, so many stories.

There is just something so special about a Mary Kay Andrews book. She knows how to touch on so many topics and keep a story flowing. Hattie is a bit lost. Her husband died in an accident years ago and her life just sort of stopped at that point. She hasn't touched their fixer upper home since and spends her days working with her father-in-law on their renovation business and her nights cuddled up with her dog. When her latest project hits a breaking point, she decides to take up Mo on his offer of featuring her and their business in a new home renovation show for tv.

This story starts with an HGTV-style home renovation story but there is so much more. We get to see Hattie learn how to move on without her husband and find the courage to start a new life. We get the friendship with Hattie and her best friend as well as the loving relationship she has with her in-laws. We get Mo's story and watch how he works to navigate the start of his own show concept while also managing deadlines that no one saw coming. There is a murder mystery that involves many characters as all is taking place in the small area of Tybee Island. There is a sexy TV costar, a police detective working to connect all the dots, and a dog that is just so lovable. I always adore the southern charm that shines through in Andrews's books and this one is no exception. The writing is flawless and the pages flew on by. This is sure to be a beloved beach read for many.
