Fun book on a reality home TV show. Has some serious issues too. Liked the characters from the start. Another solid novel from Andrews. Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy. #NetGalley #TheHomewreckers

4.5/5 stars

This book is women's fiction. It's also part cozy mystery and part romance.

I really enjoyed this book! The book takes place in Savannah. There are three 3rd person POV narrators: Hattie, Mo and Mak.

Hattie is a contractor who restores houses in Savannah. Mo is a reality tv producer. And Mak is a detective.

This book features a fun home renovation reality tv show. And there is also a really good missing person mystery. I really enjoyed both of these aspects immensely.

I also adored Hattie. She is such a fun heroine. And I absolutely loved her best friend Cass.

I loved the beach house that they were renovating! It was great seeing them decorate and renovate. And the romance (while not the focus of the book) made me happy.

Overall this book has everything! This is the absolute perfect beach read for the summer!

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I only started reading Mary Kay a few years ago and I haven't enjoyed her last two books as much as the previous ones. This book started slow for me. I was debating if I wanted to continue, start skimming etc. But once the wallet was found, I thought it picked up and became more interesting. I'm glad I didn't give up at that point. It turned out to be a pretty good book overall.

Flipping houses
Finding romance
Suspenseful mystery
Loved everything about the book especially the setting of the historic district of Savannah, Georgia. You definitely learn a lot about flipping houses! The house flipping was exciting but, I was really intrigued with the murder mystery.
Great book to read on a lazy beach day.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Way too down home folksy for me. Premise is a small family construction business renovating homes in Savanah and doing a great job of losing money at that is approached to renovate and flip homes on TV.

Hattie is a widow and seems to use her heart and not have a brain when it comes to making good business decisions, yet she resists at first until she completely caves when presented with a contract. Of course she signs it without running it past a lawyer. You can see where this is going.

It was too many stupid choices that made me want to put it down and then she went to visit her ex con dad and PawPaw was mentioned. I put it down and don't regret it.

Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

I’ve been reading Mary Kay Andrews novels every summer since way back in 2002 and 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘩 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴.  That’s twenty summers, y’all.  At this point, I will never not look forward to her books.  Summer and Mary Kay Andrews go hand in hand for me.

You’ll notice I rated this book 3.5 stars, and you may be thinking that means I didn’t like it so much.  But that would be inaccurate because I liked it a lot!  It was fun and entertaining, and I’m absolutely glad I read it.  Okay, listened to it on audio.  Same thing.  The thing is that over the years, I’ve developed less and less an affinity for chick lit. That’s not the book’s fault.  That’s just personal preference.

I definitely recommend this one if you enjoy women’s fiction.  The audio was fantastic, and narrator Kathleen McInerney was remarkable, so the audiobook is a definite yes for me. Grab a copy for your beach bag this summer.

My thanks to @macmillan.audio for the opportunity to read/listen to this book before its publication date.  I also wish to thank @NetGalley and @stmartinspress for the e-galley.

Hattie is only 33, and a widow who's trying to make a success of home renovations with her father-in-law's company. Her life has been one series of family challenges after another and she's determined now not to let down the people who matter most to her: her father- and mother-in-law and best friend. But there are challenges. As a project in Savannah looks like it will be a real financial loser, Mo Lopez, a reality TV producer, literally falls into her life. He convinces her to take on a new reality TV project, working with a flashy LA home designer/decorator.
And the rest of The Homewreckers and the next two months of Hattie's life are jam packed full of what MKA does best. There's plenty about home renovations/restoration, lots of interesting family drama, a murder, and some lust, love, and deception. And then throw in a behind-the-scenes look at reality TV production!
You can always count on MKA to take you to an interesting town in the South that, after reading her book, you'll find yourself adding to your travel list.

This is a Southern Chick-lit/Romantic Suspense. The beginning (first 30%) of this book I found to be boring and hard to get into. I really enjoyed the book after the first 30% of the book. I found the characters ok. My favorite thing about this book was the mystery and the story this old house tells. I did not see the twist coming at all before the reveal. I loved the ending, and the suspense at the ending. The romance at the ending I found to be cute, and I think the characters that ended up together fit so well. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (St. Martin's Press) or author (Mary Kay Andrews) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I look forward to a new Mary Kay Andrews book every spring and this year was no exception. I love how her books have romance, family drama, and some kind of mystery to keep the story going.
This book was so good. I loved reading about the Savannah atmosphere and the houses and could picture the show they were making. I loved the romance aspect and I also loved how it was one issue after another when remodeling the house. The mystery of what happened to their teacher many years ago kept the book propulsive and made me want to keep reading.
I will forever be a Mary Kay Andrews fan and can’t wait to read what she comes up with next!

If you love mysteries, romance, and home design or renovations then this book is for you. I first fell in love with Mary Kay Andrew’s with the Santa Suit that came out last year. Hattie is a breath of fresh air for female main characters. She is sassy, real and unapologetically herself. Hattie, Tug (her father in law), and Cassie (her best friend) run a construction and remodeling company in Savannah. After a massive monkey pit of a job needed in disaster they are looking for a new option to save the business.

Hattie gets recruited by Mo to star in a new home renovation show. Through the shows filming the run into tons of issues; dumpster fires, dead peoples wallets being found, a body in the septic tank. Anything that could go wrong did. Through the book I feel more in love with Hattie and Cassie’s characters and want to see more of them in the future. The character of Mo was a complete surprise that I loved. Please do yourself a favor and read this book. You will not regret it.

Witty, funny, charming read with a mystery to tie it all together. Mary Kay Andrews is a talented writer who knows how to keep you entertained and has definitely become my go to for beach reads. Definitely pick this book up if you are a lover of HGTV and home renovations.

Hattie Kavanaugh loves her job renovating homes in and around Savannah, GA. She gets recruited to shoot a pilot for a new show called Homewreckers, where she and a designer named Trae Bartholomew, will work together to restore a condemned property on Tybee Island and then flip it for profit. During the reno the team discovers a wallet linked to a missing person case that was never solved. With a new lead will the police be able to locate the missing high school teacher after all this time? Will Homewreckers actually get picked up by a network? Will Hattie be able to finish the reno on time and flip the house for a profit?

In true MKA fashion she gives us a fun summer read with a mystery and a bit of romance. I have been known to enjoy a home renovation show or two in my time so I enjoyed all of the tv show antics, from the demanding producers to her diva'ish co-star. I could clearly picture the house before and after the reno. While I loved Hattie, I wasn't really invested in either of the love interests for her as the romance part of the book kind of took a backseat to the mystery and actual renovation work.

True rating: 3.5 stars

I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of The Homewreckers from the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

I wasn't expecting such a cozy mystery as I haven't read any Mary Kay Andrews until this book! There was a lot of buildup through the first half of the story but if you can hang on for a bit, the plot thickens and the story sucks you in!

I really enjoyed the HGTV-esque theme of this story (if you like home renovation TV shows, this is for you)

The prologue kept me guessing yet confused me for a while. but then it all became clear later on, so hold tight!

The Homewreckers is definitely plot-heavy although the characters were pleasant enough. I do wish there was a bit more character development on the emotional side since I prefer character-driven stories.

While on the topic of characters: two of the main characters are (nick)named Mo and Mac and I honestly kept getting them confused! Together with other short (nick)names that were used frequently like Trae, Cass and Holl ... WHEW! I know not many take note of details like this but I found myself doing a lot of re-reading to clarify specifics so that's my only "gripe!" :)

Overall: if you like cozy mysteries, a bit of drama and/or home improvement shows ... this is a good one to consider!

I really usually decor MKA books. This one I tried and tried, but it just didn’t suck me in. I think maybe because I’m not really into handy, fixing things. While it is not a badly written book, I think the subject just wasn’t to my tastes,

The plot was very HGTV romcom with a little murder mystery thrown in. The MC Hattie is super independent but headstrong and relatable. There are definitely a few tools that I was not a fan of. I loved reading about Hattie’s relationship with her best friend and her in-laws!

Despite the book having so much going on, it wasn’t too hard to keep track of everything! The end of the book tied everything together with a great little bow!

If you like cute little lazy romances, this is a great pick. I absolutely loved all the home renovation pieces- makes me feel like one day that could be me.

Start your summers off right with a quick and easy read like this one! I also have to know which Mary Kay Andrews book to pick up next!

Hattie Kavanaugh is a house flipper. Her husband was killed when she was just 25, but she continued working with her husband’s family in Savannah. After purchasing a ‘money pit’, she finds herself in debt until she approached to star in a reality show called the Homewreckers. How can she say no…..
I look forward to a new MKA novel every spring and the Homewreckers did not disappoint! Easy to read and filled with love, strong women, mystery and a little humor, this is a perfect book for the beach or backyard. Out now! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy of this book.

Good book. Likable characters with a few exceptions. Interesting story concept with a look into “reality” tv. Fun read.

Here's another fun book from Mary Kay Andrews. It's a fun beach read that hits my sweet spots - some house flipping, some romance, some mystery, with a nice dollop of Southern perspective and humor. And it's all set on Tybee Island, a spot we once visited for a few hours when we were visiting Savannah and one where I've wanted to spend more time ever since that day. This just reawakened my desire to get back there some day. Hattie is our main character, now 33, she was widowed young and after 7 years, still not quite recovered from that loss. She loves flipping old Savannah homes, and is trying to make a go of making it her business. But after a disastrous attempt at flipping a lovely old home, she's wondering how to finance her next flip when she's approached about the possibility of being the focus of a new reality TV show on an HGTV-type network. She reluctantly agrees, and what happens next is a litany of what can go wrong with such an endeavor, and such a show, up to and including finding human skeletal remains on the property. It's all enjoyable.

DIY meets murder mystery. Hattie loves old southern Savannah architecture. The more dilapidated and falling down the better. She has an eye for what it could be and since she has a contractor's license, she is more than capable of restoring them to their original glory. The Home Network channel wants Hattie to flip a house while they record the progress. They even provide a big-time designer. Problem is, she has to find and purchase the house. Hattie is pretty much flat broke after losing her shirt on the last house she bought. She manages to secure the top bid for a home sold for back taxes. It is a beach property that belongs to a well-established Savannah family. She can't understand why they just let it go. Could it have anything to do with the dead body they unearthed during the renovation? Mary Kay Andrews always writes entertaining stories.
