I have never read a book by Mary Kay Andrews that I didn't end up just loving. She writes wonderful, exciting stories that just carry me away into her new world.

The Homewreckers swept me up from the intense prologue. Then I settled into the main story, a story about a woman who restores houses, a television show based on her newest restoration project, and some crazy chemistry between a few of the characters. Kind of what you'd expect from your typical women's fiction story. The wham—insert intenseness that ends up rocking everyone's world! Then this wonderful love story with angst becomes a page-turner that I can't stop reading.

MKA has been called the Queen of Summer and she definitely keeps that title with this book. The Homewreckers is the perfect book to kick off your summer reading adventures. Prepare yourself to be immersed into Hattie's world and let the renovations begin!

Widowed Hattie Kavanaugh takes over the family owned business of flipping houses after her husbands death. She works hard and has an eye for the right house to flip. But this time she may be the one to flip.
A Production Company is in Savannah looking to film a project and the house Hattie has found is perfect. Except Hattie has no interest in being on TV. Against her better judgement she finally agrees. But a lot of things get in the way including the camera crew, faulty wiring, a hunky ‘actor’ decorator, a smooth talking production manager and a body.
Nothing like a little romance, a mystery and a great book by Mary Kay Andrews to make this a great, lighthearted beach read. Thank you St. Martins Press and Netgalley for an early copy. The comments and review are my honest opinion.

I loved The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews! As the blurb says, summer begins with MKA. I was in the mood for a fun summer read, and this one totally delivered. Widowed young, Hattie Kavanaugh devoted herself to her father-in-law's house flipping business. She is skilled in renovation work and flipping, but one lousy purchase has caused serious money issues. An unexpected offer to star in a new home-renovation reality tv show called The Homewreckers sounds like her chance to recoup her losses. But, despite the opportunity to rehab a historic beach house on Tybee Island, it's no day at the beach for Hattie as the house may hold the clue to a 17-year-old missing person case. Adding to the drama, Hattie may also be in for another surprise, an unexpected romance.
Mary Kay Andrews's trademark wit, warmth, strong story-telling, and memorable characters are well displayed here. Hattie as a protagonist was confident, competent, vulnerable, and very likable. Despite issues with her own family, she has lovely connections with her found family of her in-laws, her best friend Cass, and Cass's mother, Zenobia. We also get a few laughs and a healthy dose of home renovation and junking, which are fun aspects of many of Andrew's books. Part chick-lit, part mystery, part romance, this one was all fun! I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to review this ARC.

Hattie Kavanaugh has been working for Kavanaugh and son contractors for many years. She married the son and two years later, she was left a widow. She has a lot of experience and is skilled at all types of construction.

Hattie recently insisted on buying an old, historic house in Savannah to fix up but it turned out to be a real mess. Now, she has it for sale. She then found a beachfront home on Tybee Island that had been condemned. Her long-time friend and co-worker, Cassidy, warned her against buying it but she insisted.

Mo Lopez approached Hattie about having her renovation on his Home Place TV network called Toolbox Media which will film her during the renovation. He wanted to call it Saving Savannah but it gets changed to Homewreckers and Hattie will be featured on the show.

When the wallet of a long-time missing woman is found in the walls, they realize they may have a murder mystery to solve.

The book is good with lots of characters intertwined together. I liked the idea and plot of the book but the only thing that I found tedious were the repetitive conversations among the characters. You read a conversation once, you don’t need to have the same information passed between another couple of characters and again and again. This just adds unnecessary words to the book and drags it out. This is only the third book I have read by this author and as I enjoyed the first two, I was excited to read this book. Sometimes, less is more.

I love a good Mary Kay Andrews book and this book had it all: a great story, a little romance, and a mystery to solve. What more could a reader want?! The story revolves around refurbishing an old home on Tybee Island, an area that the author knows well as she has remodeled 2 houses there I believe. Hattie refurbishes old houses in the Savannah area along with her father in law, when one day a producer of reality shows for a fictional network comes along and manages to talk Hattie into doing a reality show ala HGTV. Thus begins a wonderful story that truly had me glued to my chair reading way past my bedtime. Would Hattie be able to renovate the house by the deadline, would the mystery be solved, and would Hattie get her happily ever after? The Homewreckers really filled the bill for me.

Happy Pub Day to Mary Kay Andrews! And her 30th book! I started this and read it one sitting and it is the perfect beach read or end of a long week read or get you out of a reading slump read or just any time read! I was quickly invested in Hattie Kavanugh and her attempt to renovate a historic home on Tybee Beach in Savannah, Georgia. I loved her best friend Cas and I’m a huge fan of HGTV so I really enjoyed the reality tv show twist. Adding a 17 year old murder myster and I was hooked until the very end! This was my favorite read by Mary Kay Andrews and one I highly recommend! 4.5 stars!

You know that summer is on the way when Mary Kay Andrews releases a new book! MKA's thirtieth book - The Homewreckers - is newly released. You're going to want to add this one to your beach bag!
I'm a fan of MKA's storytelling. Why you ask? Well, there's always a lead character that you'd like in real life. Hattie Kavanaugh is that character. She's a young widow and works with her father-in-law and best friend flipping houses in Savannah, Georgia. She's ambitious, smart and driven. The supporting cast of characters are just as warm and likeable. Most of them that is. There needs to be some antagonists in every tale as well. Oh, and there's a dog. Every good book has a dog. ;)0

When the latest flip loses money, Hattie has to find a way to recoup their losses. She finds a property, but it's still going to be a struggle. Until....a Hollywood producer offers Hattie a chance to star in a 'home show.' I have to admit, I love those shows. It was fun to read what transpires 'behind the cameras'.

There are some strings attached to the offer though - including one in the form of a co-host - an attractive designer. And there's the next bit - a romantic angle - or two. There's always the right one and the wrong one. We just need Hattie to see what we see!

The last few books have included a mystery as well. Someone seems determined to not have Hattie succeed with this latest reno. But who and why? Well, we discover the why, but the who takes us right to the final pages. There are lots of suspects for the answer to the whodunit, and I was kept guessing.

And let's not forget the setting. The house they're working on is on Tybee Island, Georgia. Mary Kay Andrews herself has ties to the island. Her descriptions make me want to visit, sit on a porch or walk on the beach. Here's a fun fact - "Mary Kay is an intrepid treasure hunter whose favorite pastime is junking and fixing up old houses."

Now, take these wonderful characters, the fantastic setting and weave in the mystery and romance and what have you got? A book you don't want to put down. And I didn't. Five stars for another engaging, heartwarming, eminently readable, take me away from it all, beach worthy read. And so begins the wait for next year's book!

I always say I don’t do romances, and i really don’t - at least not straight romances. I need something extra with my romance - a good mystery, some humor, an interesting setting, maybe to learn a little something. Andrews, when she is on her game, always provides these extras. And she was well on her game with this one. I enjoyed every minute.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC copy for my review.

Perfect summer read!

I always enjoy Mary Kay Andrew's books and this one is one of her very best! It has some of everything -- tenacious heroine, smart and sassy best friend, hunky hero (or is he?), beautiful setting, interesting projects, mystery, challenges, fun! It is perfect book for a lazy day (thru night) at home, on vacation, or wherever! I could not put it down! Highly recommended!

Thank you to the publisher who lent me a time-constrained e-arc via Netgalley. This review is optional and my own opinion.

Hattie Kavanaugh works as a contractor for her family construction business in Savannah, Georgia. After losing money on a flip, she's determined and desperate to save the business' reputation. So when a TV producer approaches her with plans for her own show about flipping houses, she reluctantly agrees. This next project becomes her most disastrous yet when evidence related to the case of a missing local woman is found a little too close for comfort.
This book has everything! Southern charm, the drama of a mystery unfolding in a small town, and a touch of romance! The characters are all really likable, and I enjoyed the level of detail and passion that Hattie has for her projects. I haven't read many mysteries, but I mostly enjoyed this one. Some parts did seem a little slow but the dramatic storyline still kept me invested This was my first read by Mary Kay Andrews, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books. This one hits the shelves tomorrow, so definitely check it out!
Read this book if you love:
*HGTV and home renovation projects
*Mysteries with a bit of romance
*Southern charm .

Mary Kay Andrews books are just so enjoyable to read, she writes in a very smooth style so that you are easily swept into the book. Her characters and plot lines are perfectly imperfect and very realistic. These aren't literary fiction masterpieces but I would pick up one of her books any time. Perfect escapism. Homewreckers was really fun for me because I love home renovation and historic homes. I loved the setting of Savannah and Tybee. I've been finished with it for a few hours but I keep finding myself wanting to sit down and read it before I remember with disappointment that I finished it.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy. Every time I read MKA, I want to go to a beach, kick back, and relax. This also threw in the DIY TV show component, as well as a little mystery and a little romance. Great summer read!

REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌟

May publication dates are my favorite because I love summer reads. They are light, fun and perfect for a lounge chair and a drink with an umbrella! The summer release from Mary Kay Andrews is one of my favorites every year. The Homewreckers is no exception - and get this - it combines a great summer mystery/romance and an amazing HGTV type home improvement behind-the-scenes setting! Genius!

Synopsis from the publisher: Hattie Kavanaugh went to work restoring homes for Kavanaugh & Son Restorations at eighteen, married the boss’s son at twenty, and became a widow at twenty-five. Now, she’s passionate about her work, but that’s the only passion in her life. “Never love something that can’t love you back,” is advice her father-in-law gives her, but Hattie doesn’t follow it and falls head-over-heels for a money pit of a house. She’s determined to make it work, but disaster after disaster occurs, and Hattie’s dream might cost Kavanaugh & Son their livelihood. Hattie needs money, and fast.

When a slick Hollywood producer shows up in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, she gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: star in a beach house renovation reality show called The Homewreckers, cast against a male lead who may be a love interest, or may be the ultimate antagonist. Soon, there’s more at stake than bad pipes and dry rot: during the demolition, evidence comes to light that points to the mysterious disappearance of a young wife and mother years before.

With a burned out detective investigating the case, an arsonist on the loose, two men playing with her emotions, and layers upon layers of vintage wallpaper causing havoc, it's a question of who will flip, who will flop, and if Hattie will ever get her happily-ever.

Cutting across genres, this romance/women’s fiction/mystery is all things a summer read should be. All Mary Kay Andrews fans will love it! I recommend this book for fans of Elin Hildebrand, Jennifer Weiner and Emily Henry.

Release date is May 3, 2022.

Note: Thank you to Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

First, thanks to NelGalley for an Advanced e-book copy of Mary Kay Andrews' beach read for this summer.
This was actually my very first MK Andrews read, as I had usually considered her to be, maybe too simple/beachy, not something I would like. But - absolutely not so for this book, Homewreckers.
The entire book flows along quite nicely, very easy to pick up, yes when at the beach or pool-side, or just have a lazy week-end free. I loved this book from the very beginning, and who wouldn't with the subject of beach house renovations in South Carolina. Hattie, the star is adorable and very anxious to stay in the business of house renovations when Hollywood (Mo) comes along to offer her a challenge - to star in his House Renovation series to be about Savannah. The story flows from there, with lots of ins and outs for Hattie and Cass, along with a mystery added in, buried in the house that is chosen for the series. Enjoy - as I did, and thank you Mary Kay Andrews. I will now try more of her famous "beach reads"!

I am so in love with this author! I am a die-hard police procedural/serial killer/domestic thriller kind of reader. Well, I accidentally requested this authors' previous book and received it. Therefore, I had to read it and ended up LOVING it! I requested this one and loved this one too! Maybe even more! Such a happy, heartwarming story and a wonderful setting! Tybee Island has always been a bucket-list destination. The author did an excellent job of making me feel as if I were actually there. Hattie was a great main character, along with all of the quirky secondary characters. The reality show setting was a blast and there was a very nice murder mystery also. I can't recommend this one enough! Great break from my dark, disturbing usuals! Look forward to more!

Hattie is a widow working in home restoration. But when she bites off more than she can handle, by purchasing a money pit, she waves the white flag and admits defeat. They do say that when one door is closed, another opens though, and a door swing wide open for her. A producer for the Home Place Television Network wants her to star in a reality TV show. Though Hattie's first thought is no way, she reluctantly agrees.
She has no idea what she was signing up for. Those shows look so easy on TV, but behind the scenes, it is a different story. Deadlines, cost-cutting, and a co-star with questionable morals are just a few of the fun things Hattie will have to handle. Oh, and did I mention the accidents and a dead body found on-site? When it is confirmed that it is a missing teacher who vanished years ago, this project seems cursed.
But with a lot of hard work, the house is finally camera ready, and the mystery surrounding the body reveals a killer. Sprinkle a little romance amidst the sawdust and you have all the ingredients for a Mary Kay Andrews beach read.
I am a DIY home improvement person, so I loved that part of the plot. The murder mystery exposed some long-held secrets and I had zero sympathies for those involved. It was mostly an engaging page flipper, perfect for outdoor reading and lazy summer days.

When I see a book by Mary Kay Andrews I know what to expect. Her books are a great story, fun to read and completely entertaining. The Homewreckers will be another MKA bestseller.

Hattie is a widow that works in the family owned construction company. Her current project is a home she fell in love with. It is a very large and very old home in Savannah. Not long after she beginning the project she has come to realize that she is in over her head. The old home has several unexpected and expensive problems. She begins to realize that the house was a mistake and she is fearful that they may lose the company..
Hattie is given the opportunity to do a TV reality show renovating homes in Savannah. The show is called...The Homewrecker.

I really enjoyed this book. It is both a mystery and romance. A fun summer time read.

Thank You NetGalley and St Martin for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.

The Homewreckers is the latest novel by Mary Kay Andrews. The Homewreckers tells the story of Hattie Kavanaugh, a young widow who is trying to move forward with her life as a building contractor in Savannah, Georgia. Hattie's husband was killed in a motorcycle accident almost seven years ago, but she hasn't been involved with anyone romantically since he died. Hattie is discovered by a reality TV producer and she becomes the star of a local home remodeling show. The first featured home is on Tybee Island and the house becomes part of an unsolved murder investigation. Another surprise is Hattie's gorgeous co-star. They may have feelings for each other. Does Hattie's producer have feelings for her? Andrews' recipe for success consists of great characters, a beautiful setting, romance and mystery. Voila-the perfect story is served. That is why Mary Kay Andrews is beloved and The Homewreckers is her 30th novel. Bon Appetit!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this novel.

Look no further for the perfect beach read! Andrew’s does it again with a tightly woven who-dun-it with a splash of romance. There’s a few “moving parts”, but it’s not confusing and had me guessing until the very end. There’s very little romance and it was predictable, but I enjoy reading books with a guaranteed happy ending. Plus, the setting is fantastic and now I want to go to Savannah!

Mary "Freaking Awesome" Kay Andrews has done it again. She always kicks off the summer for me. I love her warm, witty, no-nonsense writing. Throw in a 20 year old murder and I am hooked!

Every time I read an MKA book I want to head to the South ASAP! This time was no different so many tears and laughter and a plot that keeps me reading while I ignore the world around me.

I loved Hattie and her life and her gumption. She had a lot of crap thrown her way (terrible childhood, widowed after just a few years of marriage) yet she still came out on top. She persevered! I always enjoy a strong female lead.
