This was a fun summer read for Book Club! I like Mary Kay Andrews’ books because they are fun mash ups that have good characters, fun banter, a little romance, a little mystery and are set in the South. Perfect beach reads! This one added something for even MORE fun… HGTV! My hubby and I watch HGTV almost daily. It was fun to get a peek behind the scenes in this story… such a fun concept. Overall I enjoyed this one! It felt a little long for this type of book and I wished the mystery had a bigger part. I look forward to chatting with my book club ladies on Monday!
This was cute. Hattie Kavanaugh is a young widow and she flips houses near Savannah. She is approached by an HGTV type network to show her flipping a 100-year-old house on Tybee Island. I liked the characters of Hattie, her best friend, Cass, and her father-in-law, Tug. The dynamics of the cast of characters working on the show were pretty good but, as Hattie learned, reality TV is not real. There is a little romance but the most intriguing part for me was the mystery of the missing high school teacher.
I would like to thank Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with a digital copy.
Loved this one by Mary Kay Andrews. Quick paced, great summer read that was fun from start to finish. Thanks Netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this arc. Looking forward to reading more of her novels!
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me advance access to this title. I really enjoyed reading this story and look forward to reading more from this author. As a reader, I am really motivated by character driven stories and I found myself quickly becoming immersed in these characters’ lives. Full review to come.
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
Mary Kay Andrews writes books with gorgeous covers that begs to be on my shelf and words that entertain me as I devour the book.
Now, it must be said that I am not a huge fan of home renovation stories (HGTV is RARELY on at my house). But I did love the cover and I adored the mystery that was a part of the story.
What I Liked:
As per usual- mad love for the cover. MAD love.
The setting of the book. I could practically see the setting. I feel like in MKA’s books, the setting is essentially a character because of her vivid description.
The romance 🙂 🙂 🙂 I won’t say nothing more than that, but I liked it.
Bottom line: For me, a MKA book is def one of my summer reads and The Homewreckers did not disappoint.

I am a huge MKA fan and boy this book does not disappoint. Being a Georgia girl, I loved the setting in Savannah. I know all the streets and really felt like I was a part of The Homewreckers show! Now any good Southern cook will tell you we don't measure ingredients or follow recipes. We cook from the heart. And that's just what MKA did with this book. You have a little romance, a chunk of mystery, a dash of forgiveness, a sprinkle of life after loss and what comes out is a beautiful beach read that you'll devour!! I loved the story, the character dynamics, the romantic tension and the mystery. Every old house has a story to tell and this one on Tybee Island has one heck of a story hidden in it's walls.
This is a great read you won't want to miss!!
My thanks to Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by Mary Kay Andrews and it won't be my last. It's a unique book filled with little bit of drama, romance and a murder mystery. I loved Hattie's character, the renovation scenes and the back drop of Savannah. It's the perfect light read to read at the pool or beach in the summer.
Just finished reading "The Homewreckers" by Mary Kay Andrews and it's definitely a must-read! With witty characters, unexpected twists, and a whole lot of Southern charm, this book kept me on my toes from beginning to end. I highly recommend it to any fans of contemporary fiction!
What a fun summer read. Any fans of HGTV will enjoy this book. Such twists to the story. I really enjoyed Hattie! Highly recommend.
Hattie started working restoring homes for a company at eighteen, married the boss’s son and at 25 she is now a widow. She is also wondering why she can’t or doesn't want to walk away from the money pit of a house that she feels a connection with, yet it is money pt everything that can be wrong is wrong but she wants it.
A producer shows up for a new T.V. show and she does not want to do it yet she is drawn to the house. When you think that the house can not get any worse the author throws in a body just to make the money pit even better because now you have a mystery as well a good story.
This was a fun mystery with a little romance.
Hattie Kavanaugh is a contractor and house flipper who agrees to a TV series deal when her latest flip ends up putting her in debt. She purchases a lake front property that needs lots of work but with so much potential and agrees to film the whole process along with a designer who is pushed on her at the last minute. When a body is discovered, there's a mystery with lots of potential suspects.
It's a fun read that keeps you turning the pages.
4.5 This was my first Mary Kay Adams book but it will not be my last. I really enjoyed this crazy romance ,women’s lit., mystery. This story follows Hattie a young widow who works flipping houses with her father in law. When Moe is in Savanah he sees Hattie and decides he must meet her so he follows her to a home she is remolding and knows he has to have her for a new show he just dreamed up Saving Savanah. Hattie just going in the red from a bad flip finds herself between a rock and a hard place so she agrees to something she would never dream of doing a reality TV show of her fixing up homes in historic Savannah. Well that is the plan till the network gets a hold of it and decides they want to had a romance element to the show and change the name to Homewreckers. This brings Trey a hot young big name designer to the picture. We follow along as the team works on fixing the house all while a murder investigation, arsonist and collapsing a septic tank make you fall in love with the characters. I really enjoyed this book it was a little all over the place hence the 4.5 but I really loved the authors writing and character development. To me this felt like the perfect beach read it was entertaining but nothing to hard to follow.Hattie was an amazing character she was such a badass and I absolutely want to be her. I cannot wait to pick up more from this author ! I would like to thank net galley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
With the paperback release just in time for summer, Andrews creates a cute and fun story about flipping historical homes in Savannah. I loved the main character and wish there had been more backstory on her love interest. The reality TV show works and the book was an easy read.

Another great summer read from Mary Kay Andrews! I loved The Homewreckers. It has all the essentials of a good beach read: secrets, lies, scandal, romance, and drama! This book follows the main character, Hattie as she works to renovate a beach house on Tybee Island (on my bucket list!). She soon discovers the property holds many secrets which she uncovers while doing a reality show about the redo. And of course, along the way is some romance and love thrown in. This is a fast moving, plot twisting book with great characters and location. I love all of Andrews' books that I've read so far and can't wait for more!
Mary Kay Andrews, need I say more? Goodness, each book just gets better and better. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. The Homewreckers was devoured in a day and I've shared this gem with all of my peeps who love a good book!
5 stars was easy for this book!
Back into the interior design world we go with Mary Kay Andrews!
As a lover of Hissy Fit, The Fixer Upper, and the Weezie and Bebe series, I was stoked to see MKA was back to her home decor ways! And, as always, there's more than just decorating. Those of us who've been reading Andrews for, literally, decades, knows there's always going to be a little mystery and a lot of romance...and The Homewreckers is no different.
I'm so happy to have Andrews back in her wheelhouse and highly recommend this to any and all old-school MKA readers. Fantastic Summer Read...something she does oh, so well.
I received this book for free from netgalley for an honest review.
Really well thought-out book with amazing characters and excellent setting. Love the cover .
When Hattie is asked to star in home renovation show called The Homewreckers, she jumps at the chance to save the money pit of a home she fell in love with. The house/show presents Hattie with a handful a problems - the least of which is her her male cohost/possible love interest, the biggest is a dead body.
I LOVE Mary Kay Andrews, and The Homewreckers did not disappoint. I loved the mystery storyline in this - as much as (or maybe more than) I loved the romance storyline. The audiobook was fantastic!
This was a fun, entertaining, light read. I’ve not read many of Andrews’ books, but am interested in more after checking this one out!
Mary Kay Andrews never fails to disappoint! This is the perfect book to read on the beach when you want to relax!
