I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the fact they were home flippers. The mystery element was good and left me guessing till the end. There is also a romance in there so should be something for everyone.

WOW! “The Homewreckers” by Mary Kay Andrews, is just the most incredible and marvelous novel to take us into summer. I highly recommend this gratifying and delightful book for all readers. This is a 5 plus star read that encompasses Mary Kay Andrew’s storytelling at its best. I love everything about this book, and especially enjoy the vivid descriptions of the characters, the events, the landscape, and the setting!

The genres for this novel are Small Town and Rural Fiction, Contemporary Women’s Fiction, Contemporary Romance, and Mystery and Suspense. Also is a dash of humor and wit, that makes this such a delicious and entertaining book! The timeline for this story is set in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the events or characters. The author vividly describes her colorful and dramatic characters as complex, and complicated. One of the protagonists in the story, Hattie Kavanaugh, a young widow restores and cleans up older homes to flip them. Often Hattie finds herself in a position, where the house poses more problems and costs more to fix.

Hattie is surprised to be offered a reality TV show that would consist of the restoration of one of her homes. Before she knows it, the producers add a “little love interest” to keep the viewers happy. Of course, the house that Hattie is restoring by the beach has unpredicted problems. One of the reasons that Hattie was able to acquire this house, was that the family hadn’t paid the taxes.

Surprisingly, the workers discover a wallet stuck in the old walls. This had belonged to a woman that has been missing for years. One of the dump trucks gets stuck in an older septic tank, where there is a major revelation and discovery.

Do I have the book for you!!!” The Homewreckers” has danger, arson, threats, murder, mystery, suspense, wit, and romance!! Mary Kay Andrews has provided an amazing book with twists and turns. I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friends, love, and hope.

I couldn't put this book down---I read it in two days! It has a great mix of romance, suspense, and mystery.

Hattie restores homes in her hometown of Savannah. Widowed at 25, she focuses on her work, and has no time for romance. When she's given the change to restore an old Tybee Island beach house and star in a reality show documenting the restoration, she can't say no.

Will the restoration be a success? Will Hattie finally be able to move on with her life, and maybe find love again? And when a body is found on the property, will it finally put to bed a seventeen year old mystery?

A really enjoyable read. Recommend!

Hattie is a southern gal that has grown up in Georgia. She works with her father in law flipping houses. When she makes a bad call on purchasing and flipping a house, she will do anything to fix her mistake. What she doesn’t expect is a TV show to come knocking and make her an offer she can’t refuse. What follows is a love triangle, an unexpected mystery and a dead body.

I am new to this author. This is only the second Andrews book I have read and I must admit that I’m a fan. I love her writing and her characters are just the best. She ties everything in so beautifully. I will definitely be picking up more books by her for my summer reading!

Mary Kay Andrews knows how to write about love, loss and moving forward with life when it goes in a direction that wasn’t planned, and this is no exception. Set in Savannah, Georgia, the gorgeous coastal town, it almighty becomes another charter with her descriptions of the scenery. One of the things I like best about her books.
Hattie is trying to flip a historical home and everything is going wrong. She works with her father-in-law in the renovations and has thrown herself into her work after the loss of her husband in a tragic accident seven years ago. While working on their current flip, she gets in over her head, so when a HPTV producer who is in town looking for his next big thing, he overhears Hattie and her best friend talking about how bad things are in the house and decides to take it upon himself to check in out. When he gets a feel for her feisty personality, he knows he’s onto something. Hattie is not at all interested in being famous, but the money and promotion of their company are too hard to resist. Yet, once they get into the project, there’s so much more to it than anyone expected, including clues to a decade old mystery.
Hattie is a great character. Strong willed and takes no crap from anyone, but at the same time, behind all that facade is a genuine woman who has been deeply hurt and doing all she can to protect herself. The work of the renovation on tv brings in a whole new set of problems and personalities that no one could have predicted.
I however, predict that this will be a huge hit this summer as there’s so much to unpack in the story that you don’t want to put down. This one has it all-If you’re a fan of reality flip shows, true crime or even romance, you’ll get pulled in after the first 20-30% and will enjoy the ride.
Thanks to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

Hattie, a house flipper is looking for a big score after her last project flopped. She is given a lifeline when she is asked to star on a beach house reno show. Hattie soon learns being a TV star is not all it’s cracked up to be when a dead body is found on her work site. This beach read with a mystery twist was all kinds of fun. I loved Hattie and found the mystery angle compelling. Thx to NetGalley & St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just what I expected from Mary Kay Andrews. A nice easy read with a little twist and a happy ending. The HGTV vibe in the story was new and with the times, who hasn't watched a home flipper show. Glad to know I can still trust on Ms. Andrews.

The Homewreckers
by: Mary Kay Andrews
St. Martin's Press
genre: Women's Fiction
pub date: 5/3/22

Mary Kay Andrews delivers laughs, romance, mystery and a big splash of home renovation capers in The Homewreckers. We know that MKA is passionate and respectful of vintage items and historical structures, as well the beautiful islands and coast of Georgia. The pages of her new release reflect those interests, and the book arrives just in time for Spring and Summer relaxation reading.

Main character Hattie is a young widow who works in the home restoration business in Savannah with her father-in-law. Along comes an offer to star in a reality home renovation television show, thanks to a charismatic West Coast producer. Calamities, disasters, and suspense take over. As this Georgia girl navigates Hollywood stardom and expectations, she struggles to stay afloat financially and romantically while staying true to herself.

This entertaining book is superb to help unwind from worries and to-do lists. I live in Georgia, so a setting in a gorgeous area of my state is just up my alley. I follow Mary Kay Andrews on Friends and Fiction, so I was excited to receive my advance copy of The Homewreckers.

Read this if you like: HGTV, mystery with your romance, beautiful book settings

Hattie Kavanaugh works for her late husband's family restoring historic home in downtown Savannah. I love that it takes place there since I live in GA, only 100 miles from there. So cool to read about! Hattie went to work for Kavanaugh & Sons at eighteen, married the boss’s son at twenty and was only twenty-five when her husband was killed.

She was broken hearted, but determined to continue the business of their dreams, she takes the life insurance money, buys a small house in a gentrifying neighborhood, flips it, then puts the money into her next project. That house is a disaster and a money-loser, which rocks her confidence for years to come.

Then, Hattie is approached about opportunity to star in a beach house renovation reality show called "The Homewreckers". What follows is crazy.. a dead body, a cold case, chemistry with a producer, not getting along with other show cast. Wow.

I loved this book. I loved the romance and the flip or flop TV show vibes. It was witty and funny. I wasn't expecting the suspense and mystery. That was great! This is a great Summer read! This is my first book by Mary Kay Andrews and won't be my last. Highly recommend this book! This comes out May 3rd. Definitely go pick it up!

Thank you to NetGalley, Mary Kay Andrews, and St. Martin's Press for the gifted copy.

I admit it- I look forward to Mary Kay Andrews novels because they are light, funny, and on point about so many things. This latest offering brings us Hattie, a young and beautiful widow who likes to flip houses. She's in a corner when she's offered the chance to do one for a TV series. And off we go... Of course the path to completion isn't easy what with problems with inspectors and supplies and so on but then...a body turns up! Hattie finds herself going back in time to get answers about the dead woman who while allegedly beloved by the community also had a lot of secrets. And she finds a little romance in an unexpected way. No spoilers from me (even though you. like me might figure out where some of this is going). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Loved the Savannah setting and the storytelling is terrific.

Hattie is in her early thirties. She was widowed about seven years ago and continues to work for her father-in-law (who is more like a father to her) restoring houses ... they buy them, fix them up and then flip them. Hattie is approached to be part of a reality show called "The Homewreckers" ... the show will follow her as she restores a dilapidated house. She will be accompanied by Trae, a handsome charming designer, who unbeknownst to her is supposed to pretend to woe her to get more ratings for the show. She sinks all her money (plus money she's had to borrow) in a condemned beachhouse and they get to work. Not surprisingly there are sparks between Hattie and Trae but because everything is on the line with the house, that's what she has to focus on.

While they are renovating, a wallet is found hidden in the house that belongs to a well-loved school teacher who had disappeared 17 years ago. No one knows what had happened to her but speculation was that she had run off with her lover, leaving her husband and young daughter behind.

I thought the book was okay. When I started reading it, it came across as a light fun read about the behind the scenes of a reality show. Then when the wallet was found and the story included the disappearance and possible murder of the teacher, there was a disconnect for me ... it's like the author was trying to stick two stories together that didn't fit. I think each on their own would have been a better way to do it. It is written in third person perspective. As a head's up, there is swearing.

Reading a Mary Kay Andrews book is like sitting down to talk to an old friend. You know you're going to get solid characterizations and some interesting and realistic plot elements in an enjoyable package.

Young widow Hattie Kavanaugh works with her best friend Cass and her father-in-law to renovate and flip houses. After a deal that worked out badly and lost them a ton of money, Hattie badly wants a success. She is able to buy a tax auction property but it's in really rotten shape. But -- a home renovation reality TV show is in town and decides Hattie's project would be perfect -- with a few changes. Namely, importing a studly L.A. type to spice things up and possibly provide an on camera romance.

Hattie is resistant but the money is too good to pass up. The house fixup is plagued from the beginning. The family that lost the house is spiteful, the whole property is overgrown and nearly condemned, and strange vandalisms/problems surface right away. An old unsolved disappearance dating back to Hattie and Cass's high school days resurfaces when the missing woman's wallet is found behind an old wall during demolition. She was a teacher and rumors abound: her husband did her in, she ran away with a lover, she was involved with a high school student.

Lots of old secrets start to surface but nobody is willing to tell the truth about what happened the night the woman disappeared. Then, the crews discover her body buried in an old septic tank. Meanwhile, Hattie and crew are stressed because they are working on an incredibly tight deadline. The Hollywood hunk makes a play for Hattie but she is confused -- is he just interested in future ratings? The producer of the show is a decent guy and Hattie is drawn to him as well, but they lead two very different lives.

This was a fun read. Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hattie Kavanaugh is a widow who works alongside her father-in-law in taking old homes and making them new again. When she is approached by a producer to work on a home television network show to star in a new house flipping show. She is not interested, but when her last house didn’t go quite the way she wanted it to she agreed to the show to help recoup the loss of the last house and prove that she was good at what she does. She does not realize, once she signed all the paperwork for the show, just what she got herself into, as well as the business of renovating this house. She has to work with the “new hot shot designer” on this house and he knows no bounds, and for this young widow, his charm just might work on her, but not before the house is finished. To make matters worse, this historic home has a mystery surrounding it that is causing trouble by the barrel full and Hattie thinks that she just may have made another big mistake in buying and renovating this house...

I like this book, as it maintains that wonderful southern charm that Mary Kay Andrews knows how to do. This book takes place on Tybee Island, Georgia and it makes the reader what to pop to the island for a visit. Her characters are always fun and at the same time have some depth to them. There was romance and mystery. The mystery of this house added to this book. I will admit it was slow in parts and that it felt a little bit draggy, but then something would come about the mystery and you wanted to read on and find out just who killed Lanie Regan.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my copy of this book for my honest review.

Are you ready for a touch-your-heart and make you laugh-out-loud book? The Home Wreckers is a murder mystery with humor liberally sprinkled in. Mary Kay Andrews writes the right amount of romance without graphic sexual scenes. I love The Home Wreckers and highly recommend it to readers who enjoy a funny giggle and a heart-warming novel. It is available on May 3rd. I can't wait for you to read it and tell me what you think!

Hattie Kavanaugh is a beautiful young widow still grieving the loss of her husband. She does what most of us do when we are lonely; she throws herself into her career. Hattie is talented and resourceful. She is passionate about taking run-down old houses and selling them after her crew restores them into a grand showstopper home.

One day a good-looking producer approaches Hattie about turning her renovations into a reality show called "Home Wreckers." The television show sounds like the dream of a lifetime until the house Hattie is working in is shrouded in mystery and connected to the disappearance of a young school teacher years ago. Will the case finally be solved?

The Home Wreckers is my first Mary Kay Andrews book. I can't wait to read more of her work. Her talent for placing readers visually in the scenes with written descriptions is extraordinary. Her characters are relatable and feel like friends

Applause to Mary Kay Andrews for making me smile with her newest feel-good 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ book!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me the pleasure of reviewing this outstanding book. I loved every page of it

This book was amazing! I enjoyed every single chapter, and it kept me hooked the entire time, which I loved! I fell in love with the characters and the funny banter.

I’ll start by saying, this has great reviews, I think it just wasn’t for me! Overall a good read but would have benefitted from further editing, in my opinion. A scene would play out, then the main character would tell the police about the scene, and then tell her best friend about the same scene. Each time it was written all out again. No wonder this one clocks in at over 400 pages.

The romance was cheesy (not always a bad thing!) Yet, it was simultaneously a slow burn and yet also somehow felt too abrupt? The peak of this story is the murder mystery that should have taken much more of a front seat. That part of the story was stellar and I found myself just wishing the rest would move on so we could get more police interviews and suspects.

I know it's almost summer when the new Mary Kay Andrews is coming out and The Homewreckers is the perfect summer/beach read!

Hattie helps restore homes at her in-laws construction company in Savannah. Her husband passed away a few years ago in a motorcycle accident but she's continued her love of flipping houses. She's suffering a bit of a confidence and money crisis when she gets the opportunity of a lifetime to be on a beach house renovation show. l

I've loved MKA for a long time now (this is her 30th book) and I loved the home renovation tv show aspect of The Homewreckers. The characters are lovely, I liked both the mystery angle as well as the house restoration/TV filming!

Mary Kay Andrews perfectly blends Southern Women's Fiction with a little mystery and romance! If you're looking for a fun book this summer pick this up!

A huge thanks to St Martin's Press for an advanced copy! It comes out Tuesday - May 3rd!

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I loved this story of a widow who is trying to make her way in the male dominated construction trade. Hattie's father-in-law told her "Never fall in love with something that won't love you back." But Hattie can't help losing her heart to old houses and hot TV guys. I just love this genre bending book! It doesn't know if it is a Romance, a Mystery, Chick Lit, Contemporary Romance or What Ever. But I do know that I haven't read a book in a long time that I have enjoyed this much from the first page to the last.

Hattie Kavanaugh has broken her father-in-law's cardinal rule for house flipping: "Never fall in love with something that can't love you back" and is paying the price when she loses an old Savanah house that she has gotten over her head while flipping. When Mo Lopez, producer for HPTV, rides past this wonderful old house he is drawn to it and the fisty woman working on it. He proposes a new TV show about flipping in Savanah and he wants Hattie to be the star.

The house Hattie finds is a real 100-year-old wreck of a waterfront beach house property on Tybee Island. First, she has to obtain the place and then she has to deal with the Creedmore's who let it go to ruin and failed to pay the taxes. Lucky for Hattie, she wins the sealed foreclosure bid. But the production schedule set by the network is going to be tight, real tight and the budget is tighter. Add to that a handsome, L.A. designer and the executive at the network demanding hot and steamy "The Homewreckers" interactions and Hattie has a lot to deal with.

When the wallet of a long missing woman shows up in the house, that is just the start of a series of nasty happenings with Hattie right in the middle. Hattie and Mo grow closer together as the strange occurrences and the search for what happened to the missing woman haunt the production. Now Hattie has a choice: the hot L.A. designer or the solid producer for her own production of an HEA.
