This was, unfortunately, the last book by this author that I read. The writing has gone deprecatingly ridiculous, in an attempt for a grandmother to portray herself as a 30 year old. Being not much younger than Ms Trocheck/Andrews, I can safely state that I definitely prefer this phase of life. And based on her social media, I would think she does as well? Are these attempts being pushed by publishers and agents? If so, note that we fans would happily snatch up self-published tales if you went back to your roots. As I’ve stated before regarding this author: why oh why can’t the writing age with the human? I became an avid fan of her stories almost 30 years ago & have gladly entered each new phase of life right along with her until recently. While I could never imagine the skill and dedication it must take to be an established author, I simply have to beseech: please write what you know & return to us, the generation that helped put you where you are today!
I do wish to thank the publisher and netgalley for the ARC opportunity.
Another book with an HGTV-vibe! While I love home-remodeling shows, this book added another level with murder and romance. This was my first book by MKA but it looks like she's been around awhile so I felt like there could have been more "oomph" (that's a word, right??).
While I would probably read another by MKA, I felt like this story should have either focused on the mystery or the romance, but not both.

Fans of Mystery/Beach Reads will enjoy this latest novel by Mary Kay Andrews. Heavy on the mystery with a dash of romance sprinkled throughout, just perfect for me. I dipped my toes into this one and became fully immersed by the second page. I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure out the culprit and for this reader, it was not easy, I am an expert mystery reader and I had no idea who did it! The red herrings were perfectly sprinkled through the book and not glaringly in your face. This author is an expert at weaving a great beachy mystery and I became attached to Hattie, Cass, and Mo. The quirky side characters were adorable and Ribsy the dog? He stole my heart, what a scene-stealer!! If you love a great beach read, mystery, and reality shows, pick up this latest by Mary Kay Andrews, pull up your beach chair, and dive in!
This is a great way to bring in Summer 2022!
Mary Kay Andrews has done it again. I truly loved The Homewreckers. The characters were appealing and really stayed with me after finishing the book.
Hattie Kavenaugh is a young widow who works in her father-in-law's home rehab and flipping business in Savannah. She is contacted by a television producer to star in a home rehab show. The premise is to buy and restore a historical house on camera. The title of the show is The Homewreckers". During the course of filming this show there are lot of challenges. The former owners of the property are not happy about the project, and there are some mysterious events that slow down the rehab.
The Homewreckers is a fun read. It has everything in it - a mystery, romance and humor. I would love to see a sequel to this one. The characters were all well-developed, especially Hattie and her producer Mauricio Lopez (Mo)..
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this novel.
Congratulations to Mary Kay Andrews! 30 years and 30 books! Wow! What an awesome accomplishment!
At 448 pages, this is an enjoyable read ... and one that you can probably take with you to the beach a couple times.
Hattie is a home flipper and her friend from high school is her partner in crime. They stumble across a film producer who wants to record a new home improvement show with them. They find a home and Hattie is opposite a good looking designer, all sorts of drama regarding the stars, unsolved mystery, home improvements, neighbors antics ensues.
If you love Mary Kay Andrews ... and you probably do ... you are going to love this one too!
I love that my favorite place in NC is mentioned once.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Mary Kay Andrews (author) and St. Martins Press (publisher) for the opportunity to read the advance read copy of The Homewreckers in exchange for an honest review.
A cute beach read with an HGTV house flipping story line. Great fun and easy read.

I loved this book! Reading a Mary Kay Andrews book always gives me that wonderful feeling that summer is coming. Hattie, the protagonist of this book, restores historic homes in Savannah and reluctantly agrees to be on an HGTV-style show when she needs money and support for the family fixer-upper business. She was a perfectly imperfect main character and I found her so relatable and lovable. The central mystery of this one kept me guessing right up until the end! Definitely recommend adding this to your summer reading list. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press for the advance reader copy via NetGalley.
The Homewreckers harkens back to Hello Summer and Sunset Beach, where a mystery meets romance. The main character, Hattie, has had a hard go but her strong friendships are what have helped her get through it all. She risks it all to prove herself capable in her career, but she's not willing to risk too much of her heart. Then the discoveries begin, unraveling a 17 year old mystery and everyone's nerves. Although a tad slow at the start, the story picks up to become an enjoyable mystery with a love interest or two. Another Andrews summer read at its best. I recommend this book if you enjoy summer reads, mysteries, cozy romance, or women's lit in general. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC and opportunity to provide an honest review. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My sketch …
Hattie Kavanaugh, a widow, restores homes in Savannah. Hattie loves what she does. She didn’t follow her father-in-law’s advice, “Never love something that can’t love your back,” and her love for a house turns into a disaster as problem upon problem is found. It just might make her father-in-law’s company fold. Money is needed. Now! A *smooth* Hollywood guy shows up & offers a renovation reality show that would, at least, solve the money problems. Enter a male lead, a bossy production something-or-other and besides the issues a 100-year-old house has — someone doesn’t want Kavanaugh & Son Restorations to complete the work.
My review …
The Homewreckers, a silly name for a home renovation show but it wasn’t Hattie’s idea, is outside my usual genre since it is a contemporary romance but the NetGalley reviewers were raving about this book and it was a mystery — so…
The first thing you find out about Hattie is she knows HOW to restore a house. She knows how to run a crew. You will like her.
You’ll also meet Mo Lopez who had the idea for the reality show with a far better name. Let’s just say Mo will grow on you. His first meeting with Hattie doesn’t happen the way he would have wished.
I don’t know about you, but when I read a book outside my usual genre — even one with high pre-publish ratings like The Homewreckers, I hope I’ll enjoy it as much as the other reviewers did. It had to grow on me a bit, but as got to know Hattie and the other characters, the book was a fun read. You learn about Savannah, Georgia’s old houses too.
The plot isn’t just about Hattie doing the restoration reality show. Things start getting dicey for Hattie & the crew. In fact, danger becomes a factor. Someone doesn’t want them to succeed. As for supporting characters, there are a couple of them you, well, you just will NOT like. Others are well-developed and make you wish you had them in your corner too.
Mary Kay Andrews is a fine writer and The Homewreckers is a fun contemporary romance with a good chunk of a well-done mystery. Note there are a few scenes with sexual content and at times some “language”. Personally, I felt the book needed neither. Other than that, a good read.
I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of The Homewreckers from the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I absolutely adored the Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews. At first, I was expecting a simple romance story that would be a little drab and predictable, but I was so surprised by the mystery that was thrown in. I loved all the characters and found that they were well developed and you clearly got a good take on who they were and what they stood for. A great, quick read. Go grab a copy.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I was a bit torn about this book. I was more intrigued and interested in the murder mystery than I was in the romance. Hattie and Mo's "romance" seemingly came out of nowhere. There was no tension or chemistry until it just one day magically appeared after Mo got jealous of Trae. Four stars for the plot and the mystery and the fun of the restoring an old house.
I really wish I could give a five star review of this book. I have enjoyed many Mary Kay Andrews previous books but this one was a struggle. The entire part involving the television show could have been eliminated in my opinion. The characters of Trae and Rebecca were skip worthy. Otherwise the story of the murder was the most interesting and had the better characters. I don’t know, maybe this was more of a young adult book. Thanks to all for the chance to read early.
Mary Kay Andrews is always the best kind of summer beach read. Some romance, some suspense, good friendships and some DIY make this one great book. I always love reading books that take place in the south because it reminds me of home. This book features Hattie, a widow and her work of flipping old houses in Savannah. Her forewoman and best friend Cass, Mo, the producer of home reality shows, and Trea, the fancy L.A. designer hired by the network make up the other main characters. There is a dead body, an arsonist and a really old dilapidated house. There is a good mix of humor and suspense. Mary Kay Andrews is an auto-read for me every summer and this one did not disappoint.
Summer is here which means new MKA! This is only my second book of hers so I don’t totally know the format but I do know they start slow and pick up for me.
A lot of characters are introduced as our leading lady Hattie, a contractor who flips and restores homes in Savannah, gets signed to a new home flipping TV show. You have Mo the producer, Cass the best friend, Trae the a-hole designer, the nice cop guy and the list goes on and on.
That being said I liked the mystery and the setting made me want to go to Savannah asap. It’s a fun beach read and would be a great vacation pick!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good book. You will want to read it and not put it down. The two main characters are Hattie and Mo. Hattie runs a construction company with her father in law, she a widow. Mo is a tv reality producer. Mo meets Hattie at a construction site, he pitches the idea of her doing a reality show. She finds out how much money she owes, so she yes to the reality show. During the making of the show there are lots of problems from a missing person, to a wallet of the missing person being found in the wall, to a dumpster fire, and to a body being found after seventeen year missing. Hattie and Mo have a mutual attraction, and eventually find love.
What a fun, summer romp by Mary Kay Andrews!
Set in the world of old home renovation and restoration, Hattie is floored when reality TV comes calling and wants to put her in their next reality series. ;)
Andrews is in her element here and admits she is bringing real life experience to this novel which makes it even richer. Hattie is charismatic, accessible, and a very likable protagonist and Mo, her co-star, is everything we want him to be.
Nothing ever goes completely as planned of course, in this restoration, and Andrews has crafted a neat little mystery that keeps things interesting, and not too predictable.
Fun read! Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Hattie loved renovating houses in Savanah. To rise above a poor business decision, Hattie chose to sign onto a reality TV show where is renovates a house with a narcissistic co host. As she dives into the project she finds that this house she loves has deep secrets which could shape the show’s future. Hattie learns to face her fears to find love and help her community move past a long hidden murder. It was a fun read and I loved the audiobook version.
(Reviewed for Net Galley) Mary Kay Andrews does it again! As a previous Savannah resident, she ties in all the beauty and wonder of Savannah and Tybee right into this novel! And the synopsis doesn’t even do it justice! I thought originally, okay another romance novel! But what she doesn’t tell you that this is a sprinkle of a murder mystery and vandalism in this story! It makes for the remodel of a 100-year old home on Tybee Island that much more interesting!
So many different pieces to this story and she ties them all up beautifully throughout and all the way to the end! I could keep reading more! Maybe a sequel for Mo’s new show?! I couldn’t get enough of Hattie and Mo!
Looking for a summer read as the weather starts to get better then this is the book for you. Think reality TV about flipping houses, a little bit of romance, and a mystery to be solved of teacher that went missing years ago.
Mary Kay Andrews is a great writer and I have enjoyed all the books I have read from her. I enjoyed the story and there were characters to love and hate. Highly recommend for a fun read no matter what time of the year it is. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book and let me know what you liked most about it!
Hattie, a young widow, is a building contractor. She has had her fair share of men who are shocked by her career. After a disappointing ordeal with her last remodel, Hattie is on the lookout for a new house to make over and restore. She is reluctant to say the least when a reality tv producer approaches her to be the co star of his next show. The hectic pace of a tv schedule is not what Hattie is used to. Will she complete the house on time? How many more things can go wrong in the process?
This one has a bit of everything in it. Mystery, reality tv (that's not really real) and friendship and romance.
I loved the characters good and bad. I was interested right from the beginning and it didn't let up until the end. There were a lot of things happening throughout. This would make a great beach read!
Thanks to netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance copy.
