The Homewreckers is another delicious book from Mary Kay Andrews. Contractor is not one to do quick flips on homes because that is not her style. Mo is in Savannah and crosses paths with Hattie. He thinks her rough around the edges personality will be perfect for his next home improvement show on flipping homes. Hattie reluctantly agrees and a beach house in nearby Tybee is chosen. Hattie's co-star is a little too good looking for his own good, but he is hard to resist.. Unbeknownst to the everyone on the show, a wallet from a missing woman is found during the renovation. A mystery ensues along with the an already tight production schedule. to complete the renovation. The story is delightful and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the book! The book ended much too soon for me.

Thank you St. Martin's Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of The Homewreckers.

Mary Kay Andrews is one of my favorite gettin'-ready-for-summer authors and this book doesn't disappoint! It's a really fun reality tv-mystery-romance combo that kept me entertained the whole time. In keeping with many of MKA's books, the summery tone includes more serious topics along the way, giving it some depth in addition to the setup of being a beach read. I also loved the Savannah and Tybee Island settings, and I've added them to my future travel plans. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance digital copy!

Widow Hattie Kavanaugh runs a construction company in Savannah and gets “recruited” to co-host a home renovation show. While filming the show she becomes involved with a semi-famous designer and her crew discovers evidence tied to a 17 year old mystery. There are two storylines in this book, the remodel and the mystery. I felt like they worked well and added to the story and entertainment, I really had no idea how it was going to end!

I really enjoyed this romcom mixed with a mystery! It was something new and exciting for me. I loved Hattie's character, she's strong and admirable in her determination and courage facing obstacles.

If you love house flipping shows and romance mixed with mystery this book is for you!

A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hattie works as a home renovator and when she crosses paths with TV producer Mo the idea for a reality TV show about renovating homes in Savannah is born. But between conceited co hosts, faulty wiring and a cold case murder the renovation is anything but typical.
The story was enjoyable to read and had lots of great characters. The story it’s self was filled with enough drama and romance that it kept me wanting to keep turning the pages.

Thank you to Netgalley and to St. Martins Press for the opportunity to read this book. #netgalley

Homewreckers
Mary K Andrews
Thank you for this free copy of Housewreckers provided by St. Martin’s Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

MK Andrews never disappoints! In this, her thirtieth novel, she is on top of her game. This novel showed more depth than previous novels I have read by her and to quote from the book it had, “…more twists and turns than one of those winding staircases in one of Savannah’s famed historic mansions.” The plot just kept thickening as Hattie and her father-in-law tried to complete another refurbishing of an old 1930’s beachfront home on Tybee Island.

Not only did this home go back in time so did the driving plot as Hattie gets her fil’s company involved in a reality-type tv possible series. The reader gets old time Tybee Island feel, reminiscence of high school drama, murder, Hollywood drama, romance and home remodeling trials and errors. Fabulous read!

If you are a fan of house flipper TV shows and unsolved murder investigations with a bit of romance, pick this book up. Mary Kay Andrews is the Queen of this mix of genres and this was a great read. Perfect for the spring into summer, this will transport you to Savannah and you will instantly fall in love with the atmosphere. I really enjoyed the characters in this story with all of their quirks.

I received this as an ARC, and I will do an immediate re-read on this. I sincerely hope that the editors also re-read and do more research before printing and publication. There is a misrepresented quote in here that just burns my grits! This book deserves a thoughtful review, not just a squee-girl review. (which I am when it comes time to these sorts of books and this particular author) .

Upon re-reading this novel, I found that I didn't appreciate it as much as I did the first time I read it. Yes, this book IS a good beach read, but the mystery takes precedence over the main narrative of rehabbing this house and the romance. While in keeping with the rest of the more recent books by Mary Kay Andrews, I found that the mystery was a little too complicated (for me) and introduced us to too many secondary and tertiary characters.

It was a good beach read, with some good humor, a romance, an interesting in-depth look at buying and rehabbing old properties, DIY shows (or shows of that ilk), with a fine, highly complex mystery. It was just not as light as I expected from her other summer books for me.

This is the second book I've read by this author and I honestly loved this easy read great for a day at the beach or lounging in a hammock by the lake. Even though I found this book to be predictable and a bit on the long side, I was interested from start to finish.

Hattie works for her father-in-law, Tug, and together with her best friend, Cass, they remodel and flip homes for a living in the Savannah area. Seven years after her husband's sudden death, Hattie's heart is still trying to recover and she hasn't let anyone in since Hank.

After an abysmal failure on one of her house flips, Hattie is determined to redeem herself by bringing a lake house on Tybee Island back to its former glory. Mo Lopez approaches Hattie about hosting a reality TV show called The Homewreckers to document her progress on the Tybee house. Hattie encounters a lot of hiccups along the way, including clues to a 17-year old cold case.

I loved Hattie's character and her dog Ribsy. I'm a sucker for a dog character. Hattie portrays a strong female lead that is no stranger to adversity and hard work. Even though Hattie comes from a broken family dynamic, she still finds "family" in Tug, her father-in-law, and Cass's mom, Zen. Cass is like a sister to Hattie, and she is a great supporting character.

Special thanks to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I've become a recent fan of Mary Kay Andrews because I love her mix of comedy, reality, drama, love and mystery that she weaves into her stories. This book gave exactly that. Pure entertainment that was smart and witty and kept me connected to the book.

What is The Homewreckers?? It is the new tv show that Hattie got wrapped into! She buys an old house and is going to "wreck" it into beauty! A lot goes on between the beginning and the end! A small town mystery bubbles to the surface and love and deceit confuse our characters.

There are two strong storylines in this book, the remodel and the mystery. I'm not quite sure which one I liked more....but I felt like they worked well and added to the story and entertainment. I didn't know how it was going to end!

This is the perfect beach read, summery book that is here to entertain!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advance e-copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

Last month I read another one of Mary Kay Andrews novels, The Newcomer, so I was extremely excited to get the chance to read this ahead of its release. It would make for a great beach read this summer. Taking place in Savannah/Tybee Island, Georgia, this story about a reality show being filmed about house flipping takes a few turns, one of which being a murder mystery. This book was hard to put down!

I received this eBook free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Homewreckers is a book that has it all!

It has romance, it has mystery, it has laughs, thrills, and even an unexpected twist.

The book follows Hattie, a house flipper restoring 100 year old homes in Savannah, Georgia. Hattie meets Mo who is a producer for reality television shows. With the help of Mo, they begin to film a reality show about flipping and restoring a home for a television station but everything just keeps going wrong with the house flip.
Hattie, Cass and Mo are such well developed and likable characters and you will be rooting for them all to succeed.
When the book wrapped up I was very satisfied with the ending and closed the book with a smile.
I could see this being a great summer beach read. After reading this it definitely makes me want to read some more books from Mary Kay Andrews.

A big thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Mary Kay Andrews is at her finest to kick off the summer of 2022! After reading every single one of MKA's books, I think that The Homewreckers is her best book yet!

I was blown away--what's not to love about a book set in the gorgeous, historic Southern city of Savannah with a sassy, smart, attractive female MC named Hattie who can swing a hammer, sand a floor, and put up drywall while flipping houses, which serves her perfectly when she begins renovating a hundred-year-old, falling apart beach house for a reality TV show. If renovations can ever get underway, that is, with one thing or another happening to cause a delay when the show is already on a tight schedule as it is! It doesn't help that Hattie and her crew find evidence linking the disappearance of Hattie's favorite former teacher 17 years ago to the house, so the cold case is now reopened and what ensues is an excellent mystery! Highly recommended!!

Author Mary Kay Andrews is a master at combining romance with thrilling mystery, and in the case of her latest book, The Homewreckers, a how-to for restoration. The story is chock full of absorbing parts and people and they all fit together perfectly leading to a more than satisfying conclusion. Just when you’re absorbed in one aspect, something happens, there’s a twist or a discovery and you are reminded there’s more to these characters and more to their story, much more.

Hattie Kavanaugh works for Kavanaugh & Son Restorations. Her husband Hank was the “& Son” until a motorcycle accident left her a very young widow. She loves restoration work and is very good at it, but her private life more or less stalled when Hank died. Family? Well, there’s Tug & Nancy, her in-laws, her BFF Cass, and Cass’s mother Zenobia, who really raised Hattie after her father went to prison for embezzlement and her mother moved to another state. And she’s got her faithful hound, Ribsy. So is she lonely? Not that she will admit. She’s happy, but joy isn’t really a part of her life.

Did I mention she loves restoring houses? She fell in love with what may turn out to be a money pit and the financial ruin of Kavanaugh & Son, so she’s desperate to make flipping this house a success. Enter Mauricio Lopez, Mo, the big time TV producer snooping around the house. Literally falling through the rotted floor onto Hattie is not an auspicious start for a relationship. But it is the start of some fun interactions and a glimpse of what could be.

The house restoration and maybe-yes, maybe-no thing with Mo would in itself make for a very pleasurable reading experience. But author Andrews ramps it up and introduces the discovery of a body in the house, the body of a popular young teacher who was thought to have just disappeared. She disappeared all right, but not by choice. She was murdered.

What follows is a well-plotted, solidly crafted story about Hattie’s efforts to successfully flip this house, even if it means being one of the hosts of a TV show called Homewreckers and putting up with the vain, arrogant, shifty, shady other host, who by the way is very handsome and sometimes pretty darn appealing. The show must go on and somehow the discovery of the murdered body must be dealt with without slowing production. There are a lot of other shady characters besides co-host Trae, some with strong motives to do whatever it takes to keep the murder an unsolved cold case. Just when you think you’ve figured it out something new comes to light which points you in a different direction. And makes you nervous. At the same time Hattie and Trae are kind-of-almost-not-really getting involved and Mo is circling around kind-of-almost-maybe-really falling for Hattie, and Hattie is valiantly fighting falling for anybody, which is pretty entertaining.

Great romance, great murder mystery and great insight into house flipping and the TV shows that have sprung up around it. Thanks to St. Martin’s Publishing Group for providing an advance copy of The Homewreckers via NetGalley for my reading pleasure and honest review. I always look forward to the latest Mark Kay Andrews book and this was a joy as all the others have been. I recommend it without hesitation. All opinions are my own.

Another hit by Mary Kay Andrews! Cute story about a widowed general contractor in Savannah who gets “recruited” to co-host a home renovation show. While filming the show she becomes involved with a semi-famous designer, and her crew discovers evidence tied to a 17 year old missing persons case. It also seems that someone is sabotaging the renovation. In typical MKA fashion there are laughs, romance and some mystery. Thank you Netgalley for the e ARC!

Im a huge fan Of Mary Kay Andrews and this book did not disappoint. This reminds me a bit of a cozy mystery with some humor and romance without getting graphic. I love Hattie and following her journey after the loss of her husband and throwing herself in to her home projects.
Absolutely one of my favorite reads so far this year.

I absolutely fell in love with this book. Set in Savannah, Hattie is just trying to get by in life after the passing of her husband. Hattie and her best friend work as home renovators for her father-in-law's construction company. When she's approached by a reality tv show to produce a tv show about home renovation, it couldn't be further from Hattie's interests. Initially, she declines but thinking that a recent mistake could cost not only her job but cause the downfall of the company, Hattie decides to take the deal and join the show. This book could have gone so many ways, enemies to lovers, will they won't they, love triangle, and yet the romance was the least interesting part of the book, It really was great to read about a strong, independent woman working toward her dreams.

5/5 Stars

I'd call the latest Mary Kay Andrews' book, Magnolia Network meets the Up and Vanished podcast.

A great summer read. Between the mystery of a teacher who disappeared 15 years ago and a reality show focused on renovating a 100 year old beach house in 6 weeks plus all the small town busybodies, there is a lot going on in this book. All the details around the house bring the construction piece to life. I could totally picture the transformation as the work took place. Murder podcast people will like the unsolved mystery and all the potential suspects. Overall, it's a fantastic summer read, especially for MKA fans.

It's been a few years since I read a book by Mary Kay Andrews and I am so happy to be reunited with this author! I loved being in Hattie's world, even if it involved everything from arson to family drama to reality TV to a murder mystery! I also truly enjoyed Andrews' description of Savannah and Tybee.
