“Never fall in love with something that won’t love you back.” This book is about a house flip show turned dating show with a side of murder mystery. Hattie is restoring old houses in Savannah Georgia when HPTV approaches her about co-hosting a new house flipping show. Problem after problem arises along the way. Coming from a person who has enjoyed watching house flipping shows for many years, this is an entertaining book with realistic characters and it was a pleasure to read. Thanks to @NetGalley and @StMartin’s Press for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of Mary Kay Andrew’s newest summer read! Set in breathtaking Savannah, GA full of mossy oaks and mysterious family secrets. This book is a great balance of summer read, romance, southern-style, and mystery. If you love Savannah and are looking for a wholesome, easy read this summer, check this one out!

This book centers around Hattie Kavanaugh, a fierce, independent woman who restores historical homes in the quintessential southern city of Savannah. She gets approached one day at a local coffee shop by a big shot Hollywoood producer to be the focus of his next hit show “Homewreckers”. Through a crazy turn of events, she says yes to his wily idea, but she finds herself getting a lot more drama, press, and intrigue than she bargained for. Not to mention during their restoration project, they also happen upon evidence that opens up a cold missing persons case from almost 20 years ago. So many plots happening simultaneously. But the southern influence and “everyone knows everyone” thread really kept me intrigued and interested. As someone who grew up in Charleston, these kinds of stories are always fun to pick up because I feel a kinship to them. There is just something so charming about a story set in a southern city. Truly a fun, lighthearted read for this spring/summer!

My only beef with the whole book was that they had one instance near the beginning where they said “physician’s assistant” instead of “physician assistant”. I am gonna contact their publishing company and let them know of the typo. As a female who works in healthcare, I wanna be sure that female authors are utilizing the proper terms when referring to professions. It’s a small mistake, but it can have a big impact on peoples understanding of an entire profession, especially for those who have no experience in healthcare. People need to be informed of their wrongs so they can be righted. But otherwise, a really great and fun read! Will recommend to all my friends!

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Another great, quick read by Mary Kay Andrews. I loved the characters and the plot of the show, and the mystery too.

An unusual spin on a novel. The refurbishment of historical homes. Mary Kay Andrews summer read of 2022. Hattie Kavanaugh is a contractor in Savannah, GA who helps run her family’s construction business. Since the death of her husband, Hattie's passion for rehabbing and flipping historic homes has grown and grown. After a failed flip, TV producer Mo convinces her to star in a new reality show about flipping historic homes. From there, the drama of filming a reality show, potential romance, family dynamics, and the twists of an unsolved murder unfolds. Mauricio (Mo) Lopez, is the producer for the TV show I enjoyed the juxtaposition and tension created when spunky Hattie, her co-host Trae ‘I’m just a pretty face’ aka Ashtray Bartholomew and Mo were thrown together. Although I didn’t click with the romance presented, I really did like the mysteries. I thought it interesting how much Andrews’ was able to incorporate from her own experiences in finding things while renovating to accessing knowledge from her plethora of ‘saving’ projects. I enjoyed the cast of characters, although some were a bit clichéd. Once the renovation and filming began for the TV show, the pace quickened and kept me turning pages. Savannah is always a good time and this book illustrates its southern charm. Hattie was a great female lead in a male driven industry who tries to fight back against stereotypes. I loved her friendship with Cass and the slow moving growth for her showed an extensive amount of her life that I really enjoyed. The mystery swirling also moved the pace fairly quickly as mishap against mishap kept happen

Thank You to St Martin’s Press, NetGalley, and Mary Kay Andrews for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.

The Homewreckers
Mary Kay Andrews
Pub Date: May 3, 2022

I’ll admit, this book captured me from the prologue, then lost me after that until about 25% of the way in. After that, it picked up and got SO good!

Homewreckers is a story of finding love while flipping housing on reality tv. Plus…murder. *gasp* - Hattie Kavanaugh is a widow working with her father-in-law restoring houses. She gets herself deep into debt after a failed project so when she is approached for a reality tv show, she agreed out of desperation to help get her FIL’s company out of the red. She has amazing work ethic and a heart for her work and town. She has the best best friend and the characters are easily enjoyable. This book is full of clean romance, suspense, twists, and humor. So fun and the perfect beach read! 3 Stars for me due to the slow beginning.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hattie will capture reader's hearts as she pours her heart and soul into her latest adventure. House flipping as never seen before; the back scene, quarreling and effort put into repairs. Trae, who thinks he's God's gift to women has met his match in Hattie. Love Mo! Love all the nicknames! Southern charm, mystery and love - there's a lot going in this delightful beach read! Chick lit fans will love this book. Recommended!

I always say that my summers start with Mary Kay Andrews and her new releases (though this time it was Spring Break), and The Homewreckers was another perfect kick off! The Savannah/Tybee setting was a new and welcomed twist as is the reality TV back story concept. The romance arc was reeaallly slow and almost behind the scenes until the last little bit of the book, but the murder mystery kept me guessing. Hattie and Cass and Kavanaugh & Sons have the makings for a sequel for sure, and I hope we readers see them again soon! Thanks so much to #netgalley for the opportunity to preview #thehomewreckers - I adored it!!

I absolutely love a good whodunnit mystery sprinkled with some romance and I’ve been really into watching home renovations shows on HGTV lately so I found myself enjoying every minute of this book!!

🌟Book Review🌟
Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for the advance review copy.

Release Date: May  2022
GENRE: Women's Fiction

SUMMARY: Hattie, a widowed and still grieving young woman works for her father-in-law's business restoring houses. After a poor decision leaves her financially unstable, she reluctantly agrees to do a home renovation reality show. Hattie goes on a hunt searching for the perfect home to renovate on the show  and what she ends up with is way more than an old dilapidated house when the wallet of a woman who went missing 18 years prior turns up hidden inside.

MY THOUGHTS: I really liked it.
The story is told from multiple perspectives, allowing readers to learn more about some of the side characters. I found there to be two major storylines: The home renovation reality show and the missing person mystery from years ago. But, I never felt like the two storylines were disconnected in anyway. The progression and revelations of each were nicely intertwined throughout.
The story had some romance but isn't romance centered. I found myself wondering early on who Hattie would fall for and after her feelings developed, I wished she'd move on as I guessed quite early what the outcome of the relationship would be. I also had an early sneaking suspicion about who the guilty party would be, and I was right.
The characters were all well developed, esspecially Cass; I loved Cass' character, Hattie's best friend. She was a great addition to bring Hattie comfort and support during high-tension times. Together, Hattie and Cass made a great team.
I found the pacing sometimes a little slow with too much detail around the house renovation, but other than that, this was a really good, easy, and memorable read.

The Homewreckers is Mary Kay Andrews' latest beach read. It is the story of Hattie Kavanaugh, a young widow who has a home restoration company in Savannah. To her surprise she is offered a job on television co-hosting a home renovation series along with a hunky designer from California. The title of the show is The Homewreckers -- they restore homes and the network hopes they also will have romantic chemistry. However, they haven't counted on finding a body in the backyard of the house they are restoring ...

I wanted to read this novel because it's MKA - and I love her books! Also, it's set in Savannah and Tybee Island, so a huge plus.

This is such a fun read. There are a lot of home restoration details (which are fascinating!), lots of local atmosphere (especially Tybee), a compelling cold cast mystery, and even a romantic triangle. I read this book just over a couple of days because I couldn't put it down. If I had free time, I was reading The Homewreckers.

Highly recommended for fans of Mary Kay Andrews, beach reads, home restoration, and mysteries.

A cute, feel good book about a widow. I have to say, having her be a flipper was a little distasteful in 2022. I keep thinking about the housing crisis. I wish she was just fixing up her own home! It made me cringe. But if you are okay with that, this is a book for you. A real vacation book.

This is a who dun it mixed in with a reality tv home improvement show, two of my favorites. There are romance elements in the book but that takes a backseat to the mysterious disappearance of a teacher almost 20 years before. When Hattie is desperate to gain back some of the money she lost in another flipping house deal, she ends up on a reality show and in turn finds clues to upend the life of every notable old savvanian. It’s fun, it’s plot heavy and it keeps you guessing. There’s plenty of character here both in the various mc’s and houses. Savannah is always a good time and this book illustrates its southern charm. Hattie was a great female lead in a male driven industry who tries to fight back against stereotypes. I loved her friendship with Cass and the slow moving growth for her showed an extensive amount of her life that I really enjoyed. The mystery swirling also moved the pace fairly quickly as mishap against mishap kept happening. Highly recommend for lovers of romance suspense

Summer is almost here! Celebrate with this delightful story by Mary Kay Andrews!

Hattie Is a young widow contractor that has made some unfortunate investments lately in her home town Savannah. She is only looking for a way to save her savings and her restoration company. Suddenly a HGTV -like producer from LA falls in love with the area and is enchanted by Hattie. She now has the opportunity to work a contract that could save it all and perhaps lead to love. Nothing is as it seems of course as the new site seems haunted and also contains clues to a mysterious disappearance years ago.

This book has it all! I love Savannah and reality shows so this fun book would have been a home run no matter what. If you are longing for long sweet Southern Summers, reality show inside fun and maybe a romance or two on the side then The Homewreckers is for you! #NetGalley #NetGalleyreads #STMartinsPress #TheHomewreckers

The Homewreckers follows Harriet (Hattie) Kavanaugh, a home renovator in Savannah, Georgia. In her early thirties, she never expected to be a widow after losing her husband, Hank, a few years before in a motorcycle accident. She maintains an excellent relationship with her in-laws and actually works with her father-in-law, Tug, for her renovation projects under his and Hank’s company, Kavanaugh and Son. Her current project is turning into a huge money pit, so she is highly tempted when a tv producer, Mauricio (Mo) Lopez approaches her about a new home improvement show called Saving Savannah.

Hattie and her friend, construction foreman, Cassidy (Cass) Pelletier, finally find a house that will work for the renovation show on Tybee Island, a nearby barrier island connected by a bridge. After the show has been added to the fall line-up of Home Place Television, the showrunner decides to ramp up the series by changing the name to The Homewreckers and adding in a California designer, Trae Bartholomew. Trae and Hattie butt heads on design choices and the house is proving to be a lot more work than expected. During the renovation, Hattie discovers a wallet that leads to a possible connection to a missing person’s case from 17 years ago.

Hattie was a great main character as she was trying to stay strong on the outside even while she is still healing internally from the loss of her husband. She also struggles with the obstacles she faces during her renovation projects as she loves to restore houses, but the many pitfalls frustrate her. I absolutely loved her relationship with Tug as they still are family even if Hank is no longer with them. I also loved the friendship between Hattie and Cass as they worked well together in their actual restoration and their personalities played off each other well. With both Mo and Trae as possible love interests, I enjoyed that this storyline played in the background and I liked how it played out. The added reality tv show elements were fun as they kept all of the characters and story connected.

Overall, this was a very fun read. While there are many small elements going on, the story itself is easy to follow. The characters were all enjoyable and they worked well together even if I did not like a few of them in some moments. The story starts a little slow as Hattie’s character is introduced, but picks up more once the main renovation begins. While I am not always a fan of slower starts, it worked well in this story as it did not seem dragged out for no reason. I cannot believe that this is the author’s 30th novel! That is a fantastic accomplishment and I am reminded of how many stories from the author are still on my TBR.

**I want to give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, for a review copy of this entertaining and enjoyable novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**

Well this should come as no surprise to anyone reading my past reviews.....but once again Mary Kay Andrews delivers a fantastic book. I loved the main character, Hattie, and felt that her relationships in the book with her best friend Cass, and her father-in-law were very relatable. Hattie is full of grit and determination and her past mistakes and sad history makes the reader want to cheer her on in this new project of renovating an old house while navigating being the star of her own tv show. I really enjoyed the blossoming relationship with Mo and the mystery behind the missing teacher. What more could you ask for in a book....mystery, romance, and humor all rolled in one. Definitely a great summer read! Add it to your TBR pile immediately!!
