I absolutely fell in love with this book and the concept. If you follow this author you know she had a house on Tybee Island renovated into a Bed and Breakfast. She also shared they found a missing wallet in the walls and had it returned to the family of the owner.
This novel finds Hattie Kavanaugh who has restores homes in Savannah. She helps her father-in-law whose company is Kavanaugh & Son Restorations. She was married to his son, who was killed, but kept working for her father in law.
She enjoys restoring and flipping houses. One of the ones she sunk all her cash into turned out to be a disaster. Along comes an offer to work on reality TV on a show called Homewreckers.
This book is a quick read, fun-filled read. Quirky, some romance, history and a mystery wrapped all in one. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press.

A story of friendship, family, and finding yourself, The Homewreckers follows Hattie Kavanaugh, a young widow who has thrown herself into her career after tragically losing her beloved husband. A contractor who specializes in fixing up old homes, Hattie reluctantly agrees to star in an upcoming reality show to help recoup the losses from a failed project. On a tight time crunch, Hattie must work with a charismatic designer and a determined producer to get the house remodeled and tv ready. However, one disaster after another strikes as Hattie and the rest try to fix up an old and condemned beach house, and a mystery from the past becomes a dangerous and revealing situation that threatens everything Hattie is working towards.

I love Mary Kay Andrews books, and The Homewreckers is no exception. Every time I read a book by Andrews, I want to move down south and soak up the sunshine and beautiful scenery. Of course, I hate the heat and humidity, so it probably wouldn’t be the best idea, but I love how Andrews brings the setting to life. It’s so easy to immerse yourself into this quaint and unique area, especially Tybee Island.

The characters are as vivid and compelling as the setting, especially Hattie. Hattie is a great protagonist, and I became really invested in her story. A bit lost and broken since the tragic death of her husband, Hattie goes through a lot over the course of the story. She is a strong woman who juggles a lot, and her life is a whirlwind of responsibility. She is trying to find herself, prove her worth, make a success of a new career opportunity, sort out her feelings about several possible love interests, and deal with a mystery that has haunted the town for years.

The mystery of what happened to a beloved teacher with many secrets, is another intriguing aspect of the story, and it’s uniquely tied to the property Hattie invested in. There are many twists and turns in this mystery, and several characters seem suspicious. It’s interesting to see how this part of the plot unravels, especially as Hattie and the other characters learn more about the missing teacher. They find out pretty quickly that things aren’t always what they seem in this quaint town. A missing person, anonymous threats, and suspicious and potentially dangerous activity put Hattie and those closest to her at risk, which, in turn, puts her career and life in jeopardy.

Though the romance is not the focus of the novel, it is a lovely addition to the story. Hattie’s love life has been almost non-existent since the death of her husband, and she seems almost stuck and unable to move on. I like that she begins to heal and has more hope for her future. With several men interested in her, Hattie has options, and she slowly realizes who she wants to put her heart on the line for.

I also love the relationship Hattie has with her in-laws, especially her father-in-law. They have such a wonderful connection, and even though Hank is gone, they are still family. It’s great to see families like this that stick together and support each other. They love each other unconditionally, which stands in stark contrast to some of the other more toxic relationships in the story.

This is a great story by Mary Kay Andrews and might be my favorite by the author. Of course, I say that after reading all of her books, so I might be a bit biased. A perfect blend of mystery, romance, and drama, The Homewreckers is a fun, intriguing, and engrossing read. Special thanks to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

The Homewreckers is a riff on all the house remodel/flip TV shows (the network here is HPTV). Hattie has gotten herself in a financial pickle and agrees to doing a TV show for a house restoration in the Savannah, Georgia area. The house is on Tybee Island, an old house that has been neglected for years. And it has secrets.

This was a fun read. The mystery was a good twist to go along with the ridiculousness of the "scripted" reality shows. Hattie is likeable and responsible. She doesn't want fame or fortune, just to do the work she loves and repay the debt she owes. I enjoyed it.

Not family friendly due to subject matter.

I3.5 stars

love Mary Kay Andrews' books - I've been reading them for a long time. They're set in locations I'm familiar with - Florida and Savannah - which makes it so easy to picture the action happening between the pages. However, this was not one of my favorites. I felt like there was too much going on - a murder mystery, timing a reality TV show, and a romance. The romance was the weakest link. It seemed to go from zero to sixty in 1.3 seconds without an acceleration lane. Hattie Kavanaugh has been a widow for seven years and is still grieving her husband. It didn't seem believable that she'd jump into bed with someone so quickly, with zero hesitation. (Trying to avoid spoilers here!)

Will I read Mary Kay Andrews' future books! Absolutely! I adored last year's Santa Suit. This one just seemed a bit rushed. .

As the saying goes, "Summer begins with MKA". Mary Kay is the Queen of the Beach Read. I look forward to reading her future books! Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a digital ARC in return for an honest review.

When I first saw this ARC offering by Mary Kay Andrews, I jumped on it and added it to my dashboard!
Always an engaging author, this one did not disappoint, she just has a way off jumping right in and taking you on a ride. The character and background development were excellent, I swear I could smell the marsh and feel that southern humidity. No spoilers from me, read it. I would highly recommend this one.

As always, many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the offering of the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Set in Savannah, Hattie Kavanaugh has lived and worked here all her life. Kavanaugh and Son refers to her late husband and the life they were building until his death. Working with her father in law is both a saving grace and a tie so deep and still she feels responsible when a renovation goes off the rails and she feel an obligation to repay the loss to Tug. Her father in law. A chance to recoup the loss and prove to herself her eye for hidden beauty among the forgotten structures in Savannah proves too good to be true. A home renovation reality show could be the answer to her problems. The unexpected discoveries in the project open old rivalries and long held grudges. The rot they find is not restricted to the timber , and it seems someone needs a big secret to stay hidden. The Siren of Spring has delivered again. Happy Reading

Mary Kay Andrews is a talented storyteller. I enjoyed this book and all of the characters within! Hattie was so endearing and Mo similarly delightful. What a fun plot line for a book. The premise felt like a lifetime movie - a mystery wrapped up in a PG rom com. My only criticism is that it was, perhaps, a bit long... it took a bit too long to get to the meat of the story! That being said, I did enjoy reading this book and would recommend it to others.

A missing person, romance and home renovation all rolled into one. A perfect combination. I only wish it had lasted even longer.

This was one of my favorite Mary Kay Andrews books that I've read so far. I love how she sets up so many possible scenarios that it's not super predictable and I was completely sucked into this story and could not put this book down. I read it in just a couple days. I especially love Hattie's character, the main character, who is a young woman who has faced her share of life's challenges and is strong, capable and headstrong. Relatable! This story has romance, mystery and is just all around a fun read. Highly recommend!

Hattie is a home renovator in Savannah. She works for the father of her late husband and her foreperson is, Cassie, her best friend from elementary school. She loves what she does and she is good at it.
But, she is surprised when she is offered a reality television show. That is not anything she wants to do. But, then the offer becomes too good to refuse. It will be money to help her get out from under some debts.
There is Mo. He is the man who has offered Hattie fame and fortune. He is the man who suggests the plan for the television show. And everything he says and promises is changed completely by his boss. His boss is a female shark who cares nothing for integrity or honesty. But ratings get her motor revving.
One of the things which has changed is there is a partner for Hattie. A pretty boy reality star who is a designer. And he is not above cutting corners. Something Hattie and Cassie will not do.
Along with all this, there is a disappearance from seventeen years ago. A well loved teacher disappeared and left a small daughter and a husband. When her wallet is found at the house to be renovated, it opens up an entire new direction for this story.
I am a huge fan of Ms Andrews. I love her character development as well as her tight plotting. But, I think maybe in this book there were too many balls in the air.
I like Hattie. She is a powerful woman who succeeds in a tough environment. She is a loving person who has built a very safe life since the death of her husband. But, that life is a very small one. She is terrified of her emotions.
Mo is a man who knows exactly what he wants out of life. Until he doesn’t. He has been very good at producing reality shows. His ideas have been well accepted by the upper echelon in Hollywood.
There are secondary characters who are very likable, and there are also secondary characters that made me want to take a shower in bleach.
It is easy to like most of the characters in this story. Hattie and her friends and family are hard working and kind hearted, They love Savannah and the city is almost a lead character in the story. The reader can feel the humidity and see the sunset on the river.
I liked this book. But, I think maybe it could have been a little less crowded. Not so many different paths would have been a wee bit better for me.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are completely my own.

Summer has arrived with The Homewreckers!

Welcome to Savannah for a story of a home renovations family. I love the fact that we meet Mo as he is riding around Savannah's historic district on his bicycle looking an idea for a new TV show. He sees the crew in the midst of a dumpster fire home renovation. He lets himself in falls through the kitchen floor on top of Hattie. She reluctantly agrees to his plan for a renovations reality show.

The house she purchases in a closed bid auction is a dilapidated condemned beach house with bad juju. Throw in a wacky home designer from LA and a decades old mysterious disappearance and what could go wrong? The characters are well developed loveable and just a tad bit crazy. Strap on your seatbelts for a wild fun ride!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions. I am a huge Mary Kay Andrews fan, so I think I can safely say I have seen an evolution over her thirty years of her novels. The nice thing about The Homewreckers is that it brings together some of my favorite aspects of MKA’s writing.

In this novel, she takes us to Savannah where we meet Hattie a widow who renovates homes with her father-in-law Tug and her friend Cass. Hattie’s heart is in bringing life back to the historic homes of Savannah. When Mauricio Lopez stumbles across Hattie and hears her renovation plans and woes, he comes up with a great pitch for a new reality TV show for HPTV called Saving Savannah. He convinces Hattie that she would be perfect host for this show. However, Rebecca the TV exec changes the concept and the title of the show to The Homewreckers and brings in a California designer heartthrob Trae Bartholomew to add some spice.

I love that MKA keeps bringing us back to these historic southern towns for her novels. She also taps back into the description of home renovation that made some of her early books so fun to read. There is a murder mystery twisted in as well which reflects many of her more recent novels.

What I like about this book is that murder mystery fits well within the story. Hattie has to overcome so many obstacles to complete her renovation, and if you’ve ever watched home renovation shows, this seems to fit the trajectory of home renovations. However, having a murder mystery pop up is not anything anyone could plan for, so that part of the story adds a good twist. There is of course some romance involved, as MKA gives Hattie a love interest…or two.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this and would recommend it for a fast, beach read. If you’re an MKA fan, The Homewreckers does not dissappoint!

Mary Kay Andrews is one of my favorite authors. She always knows how to deliver a witty story line that is full of character development, character drama, and a perfectly crafted ending. The Homewreckers was no different.

At first I did not understand how the beginning was going to fit into the rest of the story, but she of course brought it full circle. You’ll just have to read it to believe me 😉 I loved how she gave Hattie and Cass jobs that are “unusual” for women to have, and they were rockstars at them. I thought the characters developed well, and there were a few plot twists along the way. She has a good way of mixing in a non-scary “who dunnit” with love, romance and wit. Great read!

Another great cute book by Mary Kay Andrews! Perfect for the beach or pool. This sweet book is full of loveable characters and a storyline that will keep you entertained and interested. Mary Kay Andrews never disappoints!
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a little too similar to MKA's previous book, The Fixer Upper. I wasn't a huge fan of the title, the play on the Reality television craze vs. the backstory and crime that took place years previous. I just felt this wasn't her strongest work however if you are looking for a light quick read, this would fit the bill.

3.5/5
This is my first book from the author and I must say that I liked it. I thought this was going to be full on romance but was surprised that it also has some mystery in it. At first I had a hard time getting into it and thought there was too much going on with all the characters but managed to pieced it all together. Overall, I enjoyed the book and looking forward to reading more from the author.
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin Press for this E-ARC !

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
I love all of Mary Kay Andrews books. I've enjoyed her books and this one was no different.
Great story and great, lovable characters. It was fun and full of twists, turns, mystery and a home remodeling TV show. Home remodeling shows are now favorite thing to watch since the pandemic started March 2020.
This is a perfect summer read.

HGTV meets the Hallmark Channel meets a great mystery in Mary Kay Andrews' newest novel, The Homewreckers. From the very beginning of the book, I was pulled in. I absolutely loved the characters who are very realistic - some you love and some you cannot stand. The plot is so enjoyable, unique, and well developed. Even though parts of it are suspenseful, it feels light and playful which are somehow completely appropriate for this book.

The Homewreckers is different from anything I have ever read before, but I absolutely loved every second of it. This would be the perfect summer beach read. Thank you NetGalley for giving me an arc of this delightful book.

Another fun five star read fromary Kay Andrew's! Hattie, a house restoration artist, is discovered by a LA talent scout. With trepidation, she agrees to star in Homewreckers. From there, a mystery is introduced. A five star read!

This was a light, fun read. It has a little bit of mystery and a little bit of romance and lots of sweet characters.

Hattie has been trying to put her life back to 'normal' after her husband died unexpectedly 7 years ago. She works for her awesome father in law Tug in Savannah, GA renovating old homes. When TV producer Mo Lopez stubbles upon Hattie in her element, he discovers that she could be the next big talent and proposes a new home renovation show. As the renovations start, discoveries at their site open an old cold case. Additionally, someone is trying to sabotage their renovation. There are a lot of unhappy people in this small town, so there are a lot of possibilities for the culprit.

There is a lot of stuff going on in this book, but it made more a very entertaining read. I liked all the behind the scenes reality TV drama because I know what you see on TV is not true reality... so much scripted drama. A very enjoyable summer read!
