Thank you to the publishers at St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for this e-ARC of The Homewreckers!
This was my first Mary Kay Andrews novel, and I really enjoyed her storytelling!
Hattie restores old houses in Savannah, Georgia with her father in law Tug and best friend Cass. Together, they are flipping a house that has been on Hattie’s dream list for years. But as things progress and more damage is found than anticipated, Hattie must accept her loss and sell the house. Unsure of where she’ll go from her, she’s shocked when a TV producer shows up with a pitch for a new show called Saving Savannah. Reluctantly, she accepts, and when they put an offer down on a rundown beachfront home, shooting begins. But all is not what it seems at this new property, and as the restoration progresses, a 17 year old mystery is finally uncovered.
I really enjoyed this romcom mixed with a mystery! It was something new and exciting for me. Andrews does a great job of creating a real place for us to fall in love with. Now I want to travel to Savannah and explore this beautiful city myself! If you love romance mixed with mystery, this book is for you!

Homewreckers is classic Mary Kay Andrews and her fans will love it. Hattie Kavanaugh is a young widow who restores old run down homes in Savannah. After a recent failed reno, she can't afford to turn down an offer by Mo, a HGTV like producer, who wants to create a reality show featuring Hattie renovating a house from start to finish. Once she signs her contract, the network makes some not so subtle changes, one of which includes bringing in LA designer, Trae. Despite her clashes with him, he quickly becomes part of a love triangle. Romance is only one part of this story! During the demo, the wallet of a beloved teacher who has been missing for 17 years is found hidden in the wall of the bathroom. The murder mystery affects the many characters of this book as secrets are revealed! And the renovation of the 100 year old house is full of mishaps and roadblocks. There are a cast of interesting characters, including Hattie's best friend Cassie, Mak the investigating cop and even Hattie's dog. Tybee Island is the perfect setting, and MKA vividly brings the sandy beaches and ocean air to you!
The mystery surrounding the missing teacher, and some of the unexpected mishaps at the house bring the suspense to the book. The romance part felt a little rushed and didn't have quite the build up and anticipation that I like. Hattie was a very likeable main character and I felt myself pulling for her as well as Cassie and Mo. There were several unsavory characters as well! MKA included just the right enough decor descriptions to satisfy any avid fixer-upper fan but not enough to distract from the plot. While I consider this is an easy and quick summer read it also includes threads of surviving loss, true friendships, sexual assault and improprieties, and entitlements.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the gifted copy in return for my review.
What can I say? I love, love, love Mary Kay Andrew’s books. She is one of the very few authors I have on my personal “auto-read” list. This, her 30th book, is no exception. I enjoyed every minute of my time with Hattie, Cass, Mo , Tug, and all the others. ( I love Ribsy and the unspoken homage to Beverly Cleary also.) I truly feel like I have a new set of friends I can run over and visit in Savannah. Grab this book, a huge glass of sweet tea, and settle in for a wonderful read!
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and Mary Kay Andrews for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was a perfect way to spend my day off! It hooked me immediately, and I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the characters, the mystery, the HGTV-type show, the location… This is a book for everyone! I get that the romance between Hattie and Mo was supposed to be a slow build, but it felt a little too unbelievable. At times I wasn’t sure if Mo was even intended to be her love interest. And then their relationship accelerated a little too quickly at the end to fit with the rest of the story. I still loved it and would recommend this as a perfect summer read!
The queen of the beach read is back with her 30th novel! This time she’ll whisk you away to Tybee Island with a story that has a little bit of everything – romance, humor, friendship, and mystery.
This cute story finds Hattie down on her financial luck after a disastrous house flip. In order to make some of her money back, she reluctantly agrees to participate in a home renovation reality TV show. Her co-star Trae is gorgeous and infuriating, mysterious things keep happening that seem designed to sabotage the renovation, and evidence is found on the job site that points to a young mother’s disappearance from 2005.
This novel is everything you’ve come to expect from MKA, and she does it so well. With a sassy protagonist, a fun storyline, a bit of a love triangle, and a murder mystery thrown in for good measure, you’ll want to make sure to put “The Homewreckers” on your summer reading list!
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me an advance copy of this book.
Meet Hattie Kavanaugh, a southern belle and home rehab contractor, who is passionate about finding neglected homes that just need a little love. Along with her job boss and best friend Cass, her mission is to make these homes shine again. Working for her father-in-law, Tug, Hattie feels she has something to prove. Enter Mo, creator of reality TV shows who literally falls for Hattie and thinks she would be perfect for his new home show called Saving Savannah. But when pitched to his new boss, all of a sudden it takes a life of its own and the show becomes The Homewreckers adding a co-star, California pretty boy designer, who is planted to become a love interest. But it seems as if the young widow, Hattie, has caught the attention of more than one man. To top it off, strange things begin to happen at the job site involving shenanigans and an unsolved murder mystery that may imperil the show’s deadline. Can Hattie pull it off and show she has what it takes to be a successful contractor and make Tug proud? Can they solve the 17-year-old murder mystery?
In this unexpected whodunit (in what I though was a rom-com) there are many twists and turns. Some suspense and red herrings abound that keeps you guessing. The romance takes a back seat and at the end, it seems like an afterthought to the story itself. The romantic resolution was too quick. But, MKA creates complex characters that are easily relatable to the reader. Hattie proves to be a strong female character and gives you hope for second chances. I enjoyed this from other MKA books because I thought it had more substance and I loved the mystery component. .
Many thanks to #netgalley #thehomewreckers #marykayandrews #st.martinspress for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Hattie Kavanaugh is in dire straits. The tumbled down Savannah house she was rehabbing is a money pit and is sold for almost nothing. Approached by a reality home rehab producer, she decides to give their offer for a show a go. From that point on, all hell breaks loose.
A great read with unforgettable characters and a mystery to boot.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

🏠Summary:
Hattie lost her highschool sweetheart to an accident in her mid-twenties and never fully accepted it/moved on. She flipped houses with her late husband and her father-in-law and continues to work in that business after her husband dies. Hattie makes a bad call on a house and loses a ton of money and all of her confidence.
When an opportunity arrives for Hattie to be a part of a reality tv show- the Homewreckers- featuring her flipping her next house - Hattie (literally) cannot afford to pass it up.
With looming deadlines, a gorgeous (but infuriating) costar, and growing debts blasting through the roof - Hattie finds herself overwhelmed. Oh. And did I mention that a key piece of evidence in a missing woman’s case is found during the renovations on Hattie’s flip house? With a town full of dark secrets, bad luck, and someone trying to sabotage Hattie’s renovation- who will Hattie trust while trying to find herself again?
Will the renovations be cancelled? Will Hattie find love again after loss? And will a cold case finally have answers? Mary Kay Andrews gives us a new story that literally has it all.
🏠 My thoughts:
The Homewreckers definitely had the cozy chick lit vibe that I was looking for. I wouldn’t classify this book as a romance - but as a women’s fiction/chick lit contemporary. There’s romance splashed in there but it’s not the focal point. I would also say it’s a mystery because there’s a major whodunnit storyline throughout the book. I loved the house flipping content, and I loved the crime element woven in.
I’m not sure why the mystery/crime element is not a genre marker- because I think it should be. It was my favorite element of the book and arguably the highest vibe of the book.
My issue with the Homewreckers is that I wasn’t sure if the investigation of the missing woman was supposed to come across as a complete disaster or if it’s assumed that due diligence was involved. But - as the reader- I wasn’t sure if their incompetence was intentional or possibly a hole in the plot/story. Regardless- I really enjoyed reading this one and continue to enjoy Mary’s work.
Thank you so much NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and Mary Kay Andrews for this ARC.

It’s that time of year, when the temperature is rising, the sun is shining, and @marykayandrews kills it with yet another top notch beach read!
Hattie is a contractor in Savannah who takes a risk and ends up with a failed flip. In order to come back from her financial mishap, she accepts an offer to star in a home renovation reality show for television. During the process of the renovation, Hattie and her crew uncover clues regarding a decades old missing persons case.
This book really has something for everyone: home renovations, love interests, police investigations, and underneath it all, a heartwarming journey about a woman finding herself again after a heartbreaking loss.
Summer just wouldn’t be the same without a trusty MKA novel in your hand, so do yourself a favor and check this one out!
Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another great beach read by MKA! I always look forward to Andrew's new books and this one did not disappoint. While it was the typical love, mystery, drama MKA storyline, each book is different enough that I don't feel like its a repeat of other books. The Homewreckers was no different! I would definitely grab this one for your next vacation read!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the Kindle ARC!
Nothing makes me grab the sunscreen and dust off my beach chair faster than hearing of Mary Kay Andrews’ new summer novel. Set in Savannah, Georgia’s historic district, THE HOMEWRECKERS is full of southern charm, a taste of mystery, and a good dose of romance. The author had me at “It was a dark and stormy night” and kept me flipping pages long past my bedtime. “Just one more chapter,” I swore.
Hattie Kavanaugh, grieving widow and daughter of a jailbird dad, restores old houses with Kavanaugh and Son, a company owned by her father-in-law Tug. Following the death of Hank, her husband and Tug’s son, Hattie threw herself into restoring old homes. In the midst of a problematic restoration job, Mauricio “Mo” Lopez literally drops into her life when he falls through a rotted kitchen floor. A producer for a reality TV station, he hopes to launch a new series on flipping houses with Hattie as the star. Trae Bartholomew, a smooth LA designer and seasoned reality show star, joins the cast, but his mind seems to be more on charming southern belles than in restoring houses. The story’s action heats up with a mysterious dumpster fire and sparks of more than one romance erupt. Just when I think things couldn’t get any worse, workers discover skeletal remains on the property, and a cold murder case is reopened.
Like all of Mary Kay Andrew’s books, a bonus is the scenic descriptions of the Savannah area and Tybee Island. The characters are so well-developed that they step off the page as real living people one might encounter on a walk through downtown Savannah.
In true MKA form, her trademark humor pops up, even in the chapter titles: “And the Bike You Rode in on” and “The Plot Sickens.” This is the authors 30th book to be published. She’s only getting better and better. This book will be released on May 3, 2022, so preorder yours today.
A big thank you to netgalley for a digital review copy of this book.
Mary Kay Andrews books have always been wonderful, and this one is no exception! What a page turning, suspenseful read! I could not put it down! When Hattie Kavanaugh helps her father in law restore old houses she doesn't give it much thought. However, when she buys a condemned 100 year old beach house to restore and flip, she's not sure what she's gotten herself into. She's approached by a man named Mo who wants her to be a part of a reality show, which would include her renovating and flipping this 100 year old house she just bought. She immediately turns him down, but with some persuading from her best friend, Cass, she finally agrees. All of a sudden, things start going wrong. Is someone trying to sabotage Hattie so she'll stop renovating this old house? Hattie doesn't give up that easily. This is a must read! You will not be able to put it down!
I'm grateful to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC to read and review.
Mary Kay Andrews did it again! Great beach read. Loved the characters and it being set at Tybee Island. The mystery kept you going. It starts out a little slow and having over 70 chapters might seem daunting. Don’t worry - you’ll want to read every word. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. Makes me ready for summer
I’ve always enjoyed reading Mary Kay Andrews books but this one I especially took a liking to. It made me think of all the HGTV shows that I love to watch where they go in and flip a house taking it from trash to treasure. Those people can turn dumps into beautiful homes. The Homewreckers was like that but the author threw in a mystery, a 17 year old cold case and a little romance as well. What a story! The book is set to release on May 3, 2022 and it’s one I recommend to everyone who enjoys these types of stories. It really held my attention because the storyline and characters all seemed so real. I loved that Hattie, the main character, could do carpentry work as well as any man. I’d like to thank Erica Martirano, Director of Marketing at St. Martin’s Publishing for the invite and NetGalley for the arc to read, review and enjoy. I enjoyed this story immensely and am rating it at 5 stars!
What a fun and funny but realistic and loving story this novel tells about a Savannah contractor trying to rehab and flip historic houses and a smart sweet tv producer of reality shows from LA who wants to do a show about her. All the crazy things that happen during the house rehab will amaze - including finding a 17-year-old murder victim.
This is a book definitely worth reading as are MKA's many previous novels if you haven't. You'll definitely enjoy the ride and be glad you did.
A good quick fun read for an afternoon escape, a weekend at the beach, a long plain ride etc. It will take you away and won't disappoint.
Homewreckers is filled with romance, mystery and murder. Reading Mary Kay Andrew's new book is like stepping onto the set of a HGTV show. Except in the book HGTV has been changed to HPTV. Hattie renovates old houses in Savannah. A tv producer, Mo, approaches Hattie about wanting filming a tv show and making her a Hollywood star. Hattie reluctantly says yes. An old wallet is found in the house that Hattie decides to remodel. The wallet belonged to an missing school teacher. The found wallet helps to solve a mystery. MKA wove an engaging plot that kept me flipping the pages. Thank you to Net Galley and Mary Kay Andrews for the advance copy of Homewreckers.

After reading The Santa Suit, I was very excited to see another new MKA novel, and it did not disappoint! I found myself staying up to get one more chapter read before putting it down (which was almost impossible!). Personally, Hattie and Mo went from 0-60, and I think more of their relationship would have added to the story.
A wonderful read that includes many topics, on the beautiful Tybee Island.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press.
I’ve read every Mary Kay Andrews book and her newest and thirtieth book does not disappoint. The Homewreckers has it all - mystery, romance, family drama, home improvement and a touch of humor set in the beach town of Tybee Island outside of historic Savannah. I definitely recommend it as what I think will be this years top beach read. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
