This is Mary Kay Andrews’ 30th book and she has written another winner. Homewreckers is an intrigue, mystery, romance, and lots of home improvement! It takes place on Tybee Island where Hattie has grown up. She is in business with her father in law flipping houses. Hattie was widowed seven years ago. Enter Mo, a media person for an HGTV type show. He falls in love with Savannah, and Hattie. He pitches a show to his company and they give it a go. Lots of characters that round out the story. Another winner!
The Homewreckers was soo good! Mary Kay Andrews always delivers. I absolutely love the beach read turned murder mystery. Throw in a side of romance and television drama, this book has it all. Love her writing style, highly recommend as always!
The Homewrekers was a fantastic book. Hattie Kavenaugh works for her Father in Law Tug in Savanna GA. Mo Lopez is visiting from California. On a chance meeting they come together to film a reality house flipping show. Through in a hot designer, Her best friend Cass, and a cast of unique characters and. Maybe some mystery. This all forms the best book I’ve read in a while. I was captivated and addicted from the first chapter.
First, Thank you St Martins Press and Net Galley for allowing
me to read this wonderful book. When I started reading,
thought this was a romance book. Yes it is but throw in a
good mystery on top of it all. Hattie and her friend Cassie,
along with her father-in-law flip homes for a living. A
television show wants them for a series. This book is one I
had a hard time putting down. Romance, mystery, love, and
true friendship. This book has it all! Great summer read
The Homewreckers is a cute women’s contemporary fiction read with a touch of mystery and a dash of romance thrown in. Hattie Kavanaugh works construction and restoration with her father-in-law in Savannah, Georgia. When she invest too heavily in an irredeemable house, Hattie is looking for a way to regain some of her losses. Enter Mo, the smooth talking home improvement producer, who wants Hattie to strain his latest renovation show. The problem is the network keeps throwing wrenches in the works and changes to the plot. Throw in a evidence from a missing woman and a small fire, Hattie may have bit off more than she can chew again. Interesting and strong characters drive a story that wears a little shine off Hollywood and sets up a sweet little HEA for another entertaining read by Mary Kay Andrews. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
Where do I even begin?! This was my first MKA book and I’m unsure why I’ve never read anything from her before? She has just put herself on my auto-read list. Never reading anything by her before, I went into this book pretty blind thinking it would just be a “beach read”. It was so much more than that. I truly fell in love with Hattie and Mo and their character development. There is SO much to this story. Hattie Kavanaugh flips houses with her late husbands dad. While Mo is in town, he recruits her for a TV show on their HPTV network (think HGTV type shows). Hattie bids on a condemned home on Tybee Island and the show starts filming. While on set, the house holds clues to an unsolved missing person case.
I thought i was going into this book to read a feel good love story set in beautiful Georgia. What i actually received was not just that, but what turns out to be a murder mystery as well. This book was so easy to get lost in and I had so much fun reading it. This book needs to be added to your summer reading list and thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read this beautiful ARC.

This book has it ALL! Set in the South at the beach, with a small town, meet-cute, oh-so-love to hate them cast of characters. And of course, there’s a dog!, a sassy best friend, a couple of old folks who are just so funnnnnnny, a mystery, a grizzled old cop, and all the bad guys that might be red herrings. It's just missing a midget (spoiler alert!).
So yeah, it's a trope. But it's a good trope. MKA writes good books. You see the end coming a mile away but it's okay because you can smell the salt air and feel the love in this family and friends. This book does have the slightly different aspect of seeing the behind-the-scenes of an HGTV-ish home design show that I'd love to watch. The only feedback is it's just a touch too long and there's a small continuity issue with the grizzled old cop, but not enough to take many stars away.
Mary Kay Andrews has a way of making you feel a part of a community when you read one of her books, right from the first page. This book was funny, charming, and had some moments of suspense - the main and supporting characters were all interesting, and the storyline was great. I really enjoyed the plot being centered around flipping a home for reality tv - it was a fun escape and makes for a perfect weekend read.
A perfect summer beach read. I enjoyed the plot, characters, and setting. Such a fun read.

Hattie is a young widow working in home renovation with her best friend and her father-in-law in and around Savannah. When a tv producer wants to base a show around one of her flips she agrees and the adventures begin. I enjoy Mary Kay Andrews’ books but this mat be one of her best. She has combined a romance and a murder mystery with Southern charm. I totally enjoyed it and I highly recommend it. I thank the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I love Mary Kay Andrews and I thoroughly enjoyed her latest, The Homewreckers.
Hattie Kavanaugh is a young widow who restores (and flips) historical homes in Savannah, GA along with her best friend and her father-in-law. Hattie is offered an opportunity to participate in a house renovation show called “The Homewreckers” with famous designer Trae. As the house renovations proceed, a mystery is exposed.
This was a really fun book that had it all - mystery, romance, intrigue, and humor. If you’re looking for a summer read, The Homewreckers could be the book you’re looking for.
The Homewreckers will be released May 3!
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC.
I love how I am hooked right away when reading her books. I tried to read slowly but found myself thinking about the book and wanted to plow through. I am from Savannah, so I loved how she tried so much of here and Tybee in her book. It was a beautiful story!
Reading Mary Kay Andrews’s books brings peacefulness to my heart and wanderlust to my soul. I held back tears of joy as I turned the first page of “The Homewreckers” and entered into paradise. The publication of her books always gives me hope for warmer weather, a trip to the beach and a story I will never forget. From the moment I read the prologue I was swept away on a tour through coastal Georgia where I encountered murder, mystery and romance. The small beach town of Tybee Island, which became the epicenter of our tale, has its share of eccentric, entitled and colorful characters.
I love all aspects of Ms. Andrews’s books, especially the way she invites the reader to visit places they have never been before. Everything about Tybee Island is special from the sandy beaches to the laid-back lifestyle and beautiful sunsets. This was the perfect backdrop for Hattie Kavanaugh to enter into the next chapter of her life. Her job keeps her very busy; she has great friends, and she couldn’t live without her precious dog, Ribsy. At first, she wanted nothing to do with the reality TV show or the handsome producer who came knocking at the door. Who wants to be on TV, followed by a camera crew, forced to wear makeup and inappropriate work attire?
Our story begins in Savannah where Hattie’s current renovation has hit a few snags and ends up in the peaceful beach town of Tybee Island, where Hattie finds a fixer upper that is almost beyond repair. Hattie encountered many obstacles as she began her renovations on the beach house, and she learned she was a natural in front of the camera. I enjoyed watching Hattie as she found her way around the TV crew, managed the headaches that came with being the boss and guarded her heart from the possibility of finding love again. Hattie put her heart and soul into transforming the shabby beach house into a beautiful and magical home. Her past made her stronger, she was proud of what she had accomplished, and, in the end, her heart became full once again.
I absolutely loved this story! It was cute, funny and definitely had some mystery and suspense elements too! Mary Kay Andrews always does such an amazing job telling these stories and I couldn't stop once I started. The perfect read for a beach weekend or just hanging out!

I just recently started reading Mary Kay Andrews' books and I've really liked them all so far. "The Homewreckers" was no exception. I enjoyed the house renovation storyline mixed with a murder mystery and romance. I just wished that they explored Hattie and Mo's relationship a little bit more - I felt that part was lacking a bit. Otherwise, a solid 4-star book!
Usually I save MKA books for my first read of summer but I just couldn't wait to dive into this one and it did not disappoint!
The book follows young widow Hattie as she renovates historic homes in savannah. Savannah is one of my favorite cities so I immediately was sucked in. The company she works for is owned by her father in law. She is approached to star in Saving Savannah, a reality show about flipping old homes. That quickly changes to The Homewreckers. There is a bit of mystery involved which the other took from her own experience with flipping her beach home. MKA books always have a solid storyline, beach vacation destination, a little love story, and a bit of mystery. I cant recommend her books enough!

The newest book by Mary Kay Andrews checks all the boxes -- a whole lot of Southern sass, some mystery and drama, a little romance, and the power of female friendships. The setting is a house flipping reality show taking place in Savannah, GA. In the midst of a madcap filming schedule, clues to an unsolved cold case emerges.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This was a cute fictional story that has an interesting mystery added to the plot! Hattie is a hard working contractor who lost her husband seven years ago in a tragic accident. She's been working hard for her Father in law, restoring historic homes in Georgia. When a house busts, she finds herself with a unique way of getting herself out of the hole by joining a home improvement TV show. While working the house, an unsolved mystery from years ago has clues pop up that open the case. Will Hattie be able to solve it? Will she fall for her co-star or her producer? Will she finally be able to move on from her late husband?
"The Homewreckers" was such an interesting mix of the behind-the-scenes drama of an HGTV-esque show combined with a murder mystery, and I really enjoyed it!
There were enough different little things going on to keep each aspect of the storyline fresh and hold my interest as the two different developments - the fate of the television show and the money pit home, and the resolution about who murdered Lanier - progressed and merged.
I will echo others' sentiment that the romance aspect was a lot less than I expected and also didn't develop enough to seem very believable to me. I don't think enough time was given to the romantic feelings developing with either side of the "love triangle" to lend to a legitimate relationship. But, I found the mystery storyline to be interesting enough to make up for what the romance was lacking.
Overall a light and fun read that will be perfect for taking along to the beach this summer.
