Mary Kay Andrews does it again with The Homewreckers. A great beach read. This book has everything from a mystery, reality tv show, forgiveness and romance. Hattie Kavanaugh is approached by Mo Lopez to restore/flip a house on Tybee Island for a pilot tv show. That’s when the craziness begins from finding a wallet a teacher who disappeared to a LA interior designer. A fun read. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.

MK always hits a home run, and this is no exception! I have to admit, reading the prologue I thought this was going to be a very different book than it was...but that's precisely what makes it intriguing, the insinuated double entendre. For anyone who loves HGTV, old house restorations, a little mystery and intrigue, or just a feel-good southern read...this is the summer book for you!

I loved this rom-com with a cozy mystery to complicate a home renovation as its premise.

Hattie Kavanagh does house rehabs in Savannah with her BFF Cassidy Pelletier and her father-in-law Tub. When a rehab goes wrong and money is a concern, Hattie accepts a contract to rehab a house while HPTV films "Saving Savannah" with producer Mo Lopez. When Mo's boss, Rebecca adds a 'stud' designer, Trae, the focus becomes a personality clash "Homewreckers". Between smoldering romantic tension and design differences, add the discovery of clues to a cold case involving a missing school teacher, and the rom-com takes on another dimension.

Mary Kay Andrews has been writing for 30 years and I knew I'd have a good story that I would enjoy - and I did!

Thank you St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read an ARC through Net Galley.

A huge thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this advance copy from one of my favorite authors.
.
I always look forward to the new Mary Kay Andrews book each summer. I love the genre bending nature of her books and this newest is no exception. There’s a little bit of romance, some family drama and a murder mystery thrown in for good measure. I don’t think the romance storyline in this one is as strong as some of her earlier books, but I really enjoyed the murder mystery storyline. This won’t take the place of my favorite MKA novels, but it was a page turning summer read. Really enjoyed it!

I will link my reviews here as they are posted.

Anyone who reads “The Homewreckers” will want to book a flight to Savannah to check out the magnificent historic homes on the cobblestone streets next to the beautiful live oaks with Spanish moss.

The main character, 33-year-old Hattie, poured her heart and soul into renovating a large Queen Victorian house that needed more work to complete for her satisfaction. Sadly, she had to call it quits after her bank account was drained and money from her father-in-law’s construction company was gone. But just when she was ready to give up on a career of restoring houses, she had a strange encounter with a producer of a reality show much like HGTV. Mo, who just arrived from LA and was looking for someone to be the star of his show “Saving Savannah” which was renamed, “The Homewreckers.”

After some convincing, Hattie signed the contract with pages of restrictions. She borrowed money and found a more manageable cottage built in 1922 to renovate on Tybee Island. The property was appraised at $425,000. It was condemned and needed updates after much neglect from storms but had 200 feet of waterfront and a dock. The family hadn’t paid the taxes and fees. It was a closed bid by the city starting at $28,000. Hattie won with the highest bid at $29,725. What an incredible deal! The story takes off from there with a crew that comes in to design and create a fabulous showpiece. Hattie is an attractive single girl and has more than one admirer on the job.

This is a Mary Kay Andrews classic which comes with surprises that will make you turn the pages. The book will hit the market in time for all the beach lovers. It’s a fun story which highlights the beauty of the historic south, preserving Savannah homes with the character of this coastal town. It gives anyone that loves HGTV a glimpse of what goes behind the scenes. The 448 pages will go by quickly. It may not be in one sitting but close.

My thanks to Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read this copy with the expected released date of May 3, 2022.

I always look towards summer so that I can get my hands on a new novel by Mary Kay Andrews. I love that her books have a bit of romance and humor as well as mystery. In this book, Hattie Kavanaugh who works in construction tries to make some money after an unsuccessful house flip by taking part in a reality series which will flip an old home that in this case turns out to be a true money pit. Hattie actually wanted nothing to do with the reality series but somehow found herself capitulating. Of course, life is never simple and nothing goes according to plan as the network tries to create a romance between Hattie and her costar Trae and suddenly there's a dead body to contend with... This is a fun romp that will make you smile!

I enjoyed this novel, though not as much as Andrews’ recent books. It is a story infiltrated with aspects of romance. and mystery. One of the issues for me was the centerpiece of the story, the rehabilitation of homes and saving the heritage of Savanna Construction is something that doesn’t interest me, so I didn’t relate to that part of the story.

The story starts with a TOO CUTE meet between Hattie and Mo who become the central characters during the rest of the novel. . I found this created a level of predictability which drove the story.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

I have enjoyed most of the books written by Mary Kay Andrews and The Homewreckers did not disappoint. I thought the premise was unique and I loved the mystery that was woven into the plot line. Hattie was likeable and relatable. Liked the ending too.

From ramshackle to resale, Mary Kay Andrews takes us behind the camera to witness the birth of a home renovation show, The Homewreckers, that evolved from a producer getting wind of two friends and their experience in house-flipping.

A young widow, Harriet (Hattie) Kavanaugh, and her friend, Cassidy (Cass) Pelletier, buy an old home on Tybee Island, the barrier island and small city near Savannah, Georgia, with the hopes of flipping it to make money and save Hattie’s inlaws’ business. They certainly get more than they bargained for when they discover something hidden in the walls linking to a decades-old unsolved mystery.

I loved to hate Mauricio (Mo) Lopez, the slimy producer for the TV show but enjoyed the juxtaposition and tension created when spunky Hattie, her co-host Trae ‘I’m just a pretty face’ Bartholomew and Mo were thrown together. Although I didn’t click with the romance presented, I really did like the mysteries and Andrews’ well-honed writing style kept me engaged. I would have loved less swearing, but that’s a personal preference. I thought it interesting how much Andrews’ was able to incorporate from her own experiences in finding things while renovating to accessing knowledge from her plethora of ‘saving’ projects.

This enjoyable rom-com, her 30th, is a culmination of all that we enjoy about Mary Kay Andrews’ books. It is a must-read book celebrating her 30th year as a published author and a great beach read for those who love a good rom-com with HGTV vibes.

I was gifted this advance copy by Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I haven’t met a book by Mary Kay Andrews that I don’t like, and this is no exception. The main character, Hattie Kavanaugh, renovates old houses in Savannah, along with her father-in-law and her best friend. She reluctantly agrees to filming a TV series while renovating an old house. She makes the winning bid on a condemned house on Tybee Island and the work begins. During the renovation a wallet is found in the walls that belonged to a young popular teacher and mother missing for 17 years under mysterious circumstances. Someone does not want Hattie to finish the renovation on this house and resorts to a dumpster fire as well as reporting supposed infractions to the local authorities. Numerous other situations arise that make the 5 week deadline look impossible. The main characters are easy to like and some of the other characters are easy to dislike. The descriptions of the area definitely make me want to visit. Don’t miss this book if you like a good mystery with a captivating side story. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley.

A delightful rom-com mystery. Flip This House meets CSI in this new book by Mary Kay Andrews. Hattie is recruited by Mo to renovate a Savannah house for his new reality show Home Wreckers. In the process of the renovation, a dead body is discovered in an old septic tank. It started slow but picked up speed as the renovation and murder mystery get under way. Must read for your summer reading list.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of Homewreckers

4.5 stars! Mary Kay Andrew's newest novel is the perfect beach read for this summer!

Hattie and her best friend, Cass, flip and renovate houses. After a not so great business deal, Hattie finds herself in debt. When she is approached by a TV producer who wants to create a show called Saving Savannah (starring her), Hattie realizes it is the only option she has for saving her father-in-law's business. Hattie buys an old home on Tybee Island that has a lot of history and secrets buried within. This creates some tension amongst the locals and reopens a missing persons case from 17 years ago.

This book was a winner for me. It had a mix of really everything: southern history, drama, romance, suspense and a small-town mystery. There was a great cast of supporting characters, and I loved the Savannah setting. I'm becoming a big fan of HGTV-type books, and I loved the premise of restoring an old home and having a reality TV show made about it. The fixer-upper parts were so thoroughly detailed I felt as though I was part of the set. Plus, I like how the mystery aspect of this book was influenced by Andrews own experience of renovating a home and finding a wallet from 66 years ago. Of note, this book is on the longer side, and I do wish there was a tiny bit more romance!

Read if you like:
-Restoring homes
-HGTV/ Reality TV
-Murder mysteries
-Love triangles
-Small-town vibes
-Georgia setting

I am a huge fan of MKA's writing and look forward to a new book each summer! This is another great story! I also enjoyed her previous mysteries written as Kathy Hogan Trocheck. I feel the past couple books she's put out have incorporated some of the great mysteries of the Callahan Garriety series and her more breezy, fun stories and have really enjoyed them! This one was really enjoyable to read!

This book follows young widow, Hattie, as she renovates historic Savannah homes. She works with her father in law and her best friend. She's approached by Mo, who produces home improvement reality tv programs to star in his latest idea - Saving Savannah. Along the way, Saving Savannah becomes The Homewreckers as a fancy California designer becomes involved.

The mystery part of this book is taken from real life events in MKA's own life as they were remodeling an old Tybee Island beach house. It is fun that she allows her Facebook followers see glimpses into her life and follow along with the mystery as it was happening - and then see how it evolves in her book.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

Hattie Kavanaugh has been renovating old houses since was eighteen, but the one she currently was renovating with her father-in-law was one she couldn't handle or afford.

She had to stop the project and sell.

The day before she gave up, Mo appeared.

He was a television producer who wanted to film her from the minute she stepped onto the property of the fixer upper, during the renovation, and when the fix up was finished.

She resisted his offer at first, but realized she had to take it.

After selling the money-pit house, Hattie had to find another fixer upper for next to nothing because she had next-to-no money. She luckily found one and bought a condemned property sight unseen.

She really did buy a lemon of a house, but that wasn't the only problem she encountered. She definitely got herself into more than a home restoration.

She and her crew found things in the condemned property that gave clues to a twenty-year-old unsolved missing person/murder investigation.

This setback didn't stop her. You will love Hattie and her resilience and strength.

Ms. Andrews certainly knows how to write a great story.

Fans of mystery, fans of books you won’t want to stop reading, and fans of Ms. Andrews' books will love THE HOMEWRECKERS.

Another gem that is a perfect read for summer or any season - don’t miss it. 5/5

This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

Mary Kay Andrews is well known for her romance novels set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia, and "The Homewreckers" is no exception. This novel centers around Hattie Kavanaugh, a woman who loves restoring historic houses and returning them to their former glory. However, her latest restoration didn't go so well, and now she's down on her luck and on funds. Along comes Mo, a producer with an HGTV-type channel who is looking for an idea for a new show. He finds Hattie, along with her right-hand woman and father-in-law and convinces them to become part of his show. However, along comes Hollywood hunk Trae, who thinks the world revolves around him and that women should fall at his feet. This book has a nice storyline when some hidden artifacts and even a body are discovered underground. I enjoyed the mystery portions of this book, and my main complaint is that I wish there had been more realistic romance.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

While I loved the premise of this book, I didn’t feel the connection between the characters and there was too much thrown into the story that didn’t need to be there. Although, I wish there were before and after pictures of the remodel of the beach house, even if it wasn’t a real place.

5 Stars!!!! I read my first two Mary Kay Andrews novels this past Christmas, and I was immediately hooked! I love this author! And like The Santa Suit, Homewreckers is an incredible novel! I was hooked from page 1 and could not put it down. It’s full of life, joy, humor, mystery, growing pains, and romance. The characters are so completely developed, I was sure I was standing right next to them as real ‘come-to-life’ people. The storyline is layer upon layer of “I cannot wait to read the next page” drama. It was a fun book to read and I’m sad that I’m done. I want to stand behind Mary Kay and read her next novel as she’s writing it. I’m a fan for life.

I received this advanced reader’s copy for free from Author Mary Kay Andrews, Publisher St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.

This is my first Mary Kay Andrews book and I absolutely loved it! I am running to pick up another from her extensive backlist right now and I cannot wait for this one to hit the shelves. This book will work for so many people, I think I will even try to make this my book club's pick the month it comes out.
