I requested to read and review this book for free from St. Martin Publishing Company. Author hits another home run with this book The Homewreckers. This book has many different feels to it romance, mystery, drama and some thriller action. Characters Mo, Hattie, Cass and Trae along with the community of Savanah and the island. Have formed a strong bond both old and new. They find each other strength and weaknesses. Can past hurts shape the present and the future? And will bad MOJO help a project or hurt it? Is honesty and truth the best policy no matter how much time has past? This book is for a mature reader and can be ready anywhere.
Mary Kay Andrews, storyteller extraordinaire, has done it again! When Hattie Kavanaugh, restorations expert, makes a poor choice and a disastrous financial outcome, she has to figure out how to quickly turn things around. A HGTV proposal promises to be her best chance if she can find a property. When she wins a bid on a 100 year old beach house on Tybee Island (sight unseen) it's one challenge after another.
The story progresses rapidly as TV schedules are apparently unreasonable. In the renovation process, a 17 year old murder comes to light as well as various complaints that result in huge fines. Character personalities clash at times, but the renovation success and on camera results keeps everyone pushing for the deadline as so many details come to light. Fast paced at times interspersed with relaxing moments, this treasure was hard to put down! Scenic descriptions, renovation details, romance, hate, and all the emotions in-between combined to make the reader feel they were living the experience with Hattie.
Don't miss this exciting story that has something for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read and review an advanced copy of this magnificent book.

I received a complimentary Kindle book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you to Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This was the third book by MKA that I have read. I just recently discovered this author because of NetGalley. I must say that MKA writes fun books that are easy to read and not overly heavy. Perfect for these end of COVID pandemic times.
Not a great work of literature (not ALL books are supposed to be), but a great beach read!
RECOMMEND!
fun HGTV type story with a murder mystery. I enjoyed the characters and was able to imagine them and the redo in my head. The murder mystery had me guessing although my suspect was right on. A fun cottage on the river reno with a lot of unexpected chaos and a bit or romance tossed in. Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for the ARC. I always look forward to MKA books
Mary Kay Andrews turned her real-life experience of renovating a home and finding a wallet from 66 years ago into the wonderful read that is The Homewreckers and she couldn't have done a better job!
The story of Hattie, Cass, Tug, and their home renovation business in Savannah is fascinating. As Hattie's love project of a beautiful old home that just keeps getting worse, drowning in red ink, along comes a producer for HPTV, wanting Hattie to star in a new home renovation show. And that is when life gets crazy.
As Hattie has to make a tough decision on her love project, her father-in-law, Tug, tells her "Don't love something that can't love you back." This turns out to be fantastic advice and something many of use should probably pay attention to. Of course, HPTV dangled money, a higher profile which would likely result in more work, and before long Hattie's ensnared.
The story gets better and better as time goes along, especially when something tying a long time missing person case to Hattie's latest beach house renovation turns up. The mystery was very interesting and it was easy to tell that MKA had been through renovations of her own just by the way that part of the book was tackled.
I highly recommend this book to people who've enjoyed other MKA books, mystery lovers, and those who enjoy a good woman power read.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.
Thank you NetGalley for my ebook of The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews. I loved it! Mary Kay Andrews never disappoints. It was a far fetched story, but that just didn't matter. The main characters were well developed and thought out. Hattie was very likable as were Cass, Mo, Mac and Tug. Even Hattie's dog was great. I will be recommending The Homewreckers to friends and book club.
I loved this book. Each time I read one of this author's books, I think to myself, this one is the best one yet. They are all great.
This was such a marvelous story! One of MKA’s best!
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Mary Kay Andrews has done it again!! Grab yourselves a beach chair, some sweet tea and don't forget the sunscreen. "The Homewreckers" is filled with all the fun, quirky characters that we have all come to love in a Mary Kay Andrews novel. This book has everything a mystery, a sweet romance and always some of Mary Kay Andrew's southern wit. I HIGHLY recommend "The Homewreckers". This is an absolute summer must read. And don't forget to reapply the sunscreen because you won't be able to put this gem down!
A HUGE thank you to St. Martin's Press, Mary Kay Andrews and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Mary Kay Andrews does it again with another great read. I am never disappointed with her stories. Homewreckers has a bit of everything included. The premise is a down-on-her-luck builder is asked to be part of a reality show called "Homewreckers". There is family drama, friendship, romance, and some mystery thrown in. The house that is chosen for the remodel has some history and that history turns into a mystery when things keep happening at the building site. Hattie and the show designer have a spark of romance as do Hattie and the show producer but only one is the "good guy". Can she figure out her love life and get the house finished in spite of the obstacles set by someone who just wants the builders to go away? This was a quick, fun, entertaining book and I think it will be another hit for Mary Kay Andrews, just right for a summer beach read.
This is the second book I've read by this author, and I love it even more than the first. The characters are quirky and delightful, especially the protagonist, Hattie. The relationships that develop throughout the novel are well-developed and believable, and Hattie's backstory throws light upon her touching mix of vulnerability and toughness. The mysterious and frequent inexplicable disasters that befall Hattie and her crew as they demolish and renovate an old beach house link to the long-ago disappearance of a beloved teacher and the solution to a cold case of murder. The mystery is engaging, and the light touches of humor in the novel never become too slapstick. Readers will root for Hattie as she experiences healing, develops self-confidence, and even finds love in this absorbing story.
I love any book by Mary Kay Andrews, and this one was great. This will be such a fun beach read! It combines humor and home renovations and made for an enjoyable story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
Hattie Kavanaugh should have listened to to the advice of her father in-law, "Don't love something that can't love you back," however, ignoring that advice, she invested all her assets into the 157 year-old house she is crawling under in Savannah's historic district to inspect rusted pipes.
Kavanaugh and Son has already invested far too much capital into this house that Hattie had fallen in love with. Although a widow at a young age, Hattie continues to work for her father in-law, Tug Kavanaugh, at Kavanaugh and Son. Her best friend Cassie is the Construction Foreman.
Mo Lopez, in Savannah to speak to television and film students at the Savannah College of Art and Design, is riding though the historic district on a bike realizes the town is full of restoration and renovation activity. As he's turning down another street, he notices a magnificent three-story Queen Anne Victorian where it is obvious an extensive restoration is taking place. Mo parks his bike and heads to the partially open front door. There doesn't seem to be anyone around so he walks through the house and into the kitchen where the floor crumbles, and he immediately finds himself on top of another human, both covered in a century worth of dirt and debris.
Kavanaugh and Son cuts their losses on the Queen Anne and Mo talks Hattie into joining the cast of a new home restoration program he is developing called Saving Savannah. Needing a way to be able to cover the financial loss of the previous restoration project, she agrees that she and Cassie will join the cast. Mo sells the restoration program to Home Place Television who changes the name to Homewreckers and it is put on the Fall lineup on HPTV.
This captivating story has the most intriguing cast of characters including the handsome Trae, a well-known Designer who has an extensive fan base. The network plans to entice viewers with more between Hattie and Trae than just renovating and decorating the restored house.
As production begins If anything could go wrong it does. Inspector Gadget, as Hattie has dubbed him, hands out city citations for various infractions far too often. There is a cold case regarding a missing person 17 years ago the police reopen because it appears there could be a connection to the house. Numerous mishaps occur, including a fire, that continues to threaten the completion of the project on time.
I've read many books by Mary Kay Andrews and know when I see her name, I can count on it being a heartfelt, compelling story. Homewreckers is no exception. It is a fascinating, compelling story that is nearly impossible to put down. Personally, I could have done with a few less f-bombs and perhaps some cleaner language, however, I've given it a 5 because it's such a gripping, captivating story. One you won't want to miss.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for the complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a great summer read set in beautiful Savannah and Tybee Island. Hattie is a young woman who loves restoring and flipping old houses. She went into business with her husband and his father, but her husband was killed in an accident far too early in life. Hattie has a current money pi on her hands and is struggling with letting that house go when a TV producer overhears her conversation and proposes that she stars in a new reality show about home renovation. She's cast opposite a west coast hunk as the producers hope that sparks will fly between the two and spice up the show even more. As the renovation begins, some downright strange events start to happen at the work site, and a mystery unfolds. This book was a fun read!
It sounds like a good idea to Hattie Kavanaugh. She’s put her late husband’s restoration company at risk with a disastrous remodel and she’s strapped for cash. So when she’s offered a reality TV show to be called “Saving Savannah” with her tag line of “one house at a time” she’s quick to sign the contract. So why is she on Tybee Island filming a show now called Homewreckers, dealing with a 100 year old condemned beach house and a makeup obsessed, womanizing LA designer co-star named Trae Bartholomew? With only weeks to film the transformation, the pressure is on. In the first week, a wallet belonging to a beloved teacher who disappeared years ago is found in the bathroom wall. Now the police are involved, neighbors are complaining, mysterious accidents happen and Hattie wonders if she is filming a renovation show or an episode of CSI. One thing she does know…the show must go on.
My only regret about The Homewreckers is that there is not more of it! I want it to be a TV show. I want to watch Saving Savannah! And I want sassy Leetha to be in another book. Mary Kay Andrews has delivered the beach read of the summer. Just remember to bring an umbrella and lots of sunscreen because you’ll be too busy reading to go into the water! 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Mary Kay Andrews for this ARC.
ARC Kindle Copy from Review from Net Galley and St. Martin's Press.
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Hattie found her niche in renovating house homes for a builder. One house she becomes enamoured will become a money trap? Will it be worth the expense to fix it up or should she just give up the idea altogether?
Throw together a mysterious disappearance tied to the house and two men vying for her affections. Will she get her happy ending or is she destined to be alone?
It is a sweet romance story from an acclaimed writer that you will enjoy.
Widowed by age 25, Hattie Kavanaugh has thrown herself into her work restoring old and unloved homes. Now, it looks like she may have chosen the wrong house, she’s falling behind fast and this house may just push her business off a financial cliff. She needs money so she jumps on an offer to appear on a reality TV show, Homewreckers where she must restore a beach house better than her competitor, a man who could be the biggest pain in the ass she’s ever known, or a ….lover. Add in a mystery surrounding the disappearance of a local woman years before, the detective still on the case along with Andrews’s usual snark and humor and you’ve got a great beach read
The Homewreckers has all the elements readers expect from Mary Kay Andrews: interesting characters that populate a story designed to hook readers immediately and keep them engaged, mystery, romance and many secrets. Centered around a house flip being done as a TV reality show there’s lots of tension on and off the set especially once a cold case suddenly becomes hot again. This reader is a huge fan of the author and in my opinion this book is one of her best. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
